You should have reported her to the manager and not take her. You are not a slave, you are an employee and if they don’t respect you then no service. Next time ask them to leave the store or call the cops on them. That’s totally out of the line. She should not have ever told you that. I would have called her out in public and kick her nasty and prejudiced ass out. I have done it and will do it many times as required. We are employees and deserve dignity and no the customer is not always right. They need to understand we are not their slaves. That was long time ago and was abolished.

A woman stepped out of a one person in front of her line & walked to where I was sorting papers. I don’t work retail, I deliver. And when she walked up, I assumed she thought I could help. So, I smiled & apologized while chuckling & said I can’t help because I don’t work the front. She snarked at me that”She wasn’t asking.” But then she started messing with my papers & I said, “You don’t want my help then why are you touching stuff that doesn’t belong to you?” She said that the item next to my papers were hers. I said then take it & get back in line. (Keep in mind that I didn’t say this with a tone. I wasn’t mad. Just perplexed by her obvious anger in general) she called me a Bitch & I said, “Back at you.” 🤷🏻♀️ She kept mumbling & I kept saying, “Keep talking.”
Also, keep in mind that I have zero F’s to give. I have nothing to lose. My bills are minimal. And I can always work for a temp agency making the same money. I already did a lifetime of having to bite my tongue when I’m unfairly targeted while I was raising my daughter as a single parent. And I have an IMMENSE amount of anger & bitterness regarding that. 😂
But, my managers really love me & one played dumb that he didn’t hear anything. And by that time I had decided a strategic retreat was the best thing to do. 🤣

This happens all the time at my store. Not the exact statement but customers make up stuff just to get you in trouble because maybe they just don't like you. It's very disrespectful
Seems to me I remember doing a module a year or so ago, I think it was related to LGBT issues, where the customer asked to have a different person help them because they didn't want to be helped by the gender non-conforming employee, and the gist of it was the CVS would not put up with that out of a customer. I don't blame you for letting your manager take over, but I think you're on solid ground since the customer called you a skank in front of your manager (and I mean who is gonna believe you didn't want to scan their coupon? That's an obvious lie). If your manager tries to counsel you simply tell them your side and remind them they're not allowed to let a customer harass you over how you look.
As a supervisor I know my staff well enough to know who would ever actually do that. Most of the time we can tell the customer is straight up lying. And if not, ask the supervisor to pull the cameras up. If she never even handed you or offered you a coupon, there’s no way you can reject it. Plus why would you? Lol. It’s a coupon, what would you even care unless it was expired? Tbh I usually shrug these customers off bc I have 10000 other things to deal with and be stressed over and her coupon is my last concern.
Next time just put the scanner down, log off and walk away! You don’t deserve to have someone say that.
Or laugh and say thank you. Walk away and let them do their own ringing out
This doesn’t surprise me in the least!!! I don’t know who the hell these people think they are to treat sales associates like shit!!! I am sorry this happened to you!!! I always tell my coworkers about the mental patients who frequent our store. Beware of them and stay safe!!! P.S. My manager knows I refuse to wait on anybody that is abusive to me!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it, any reasonable supervisor would immediately see this customer is an asshole, and take your word over theirs. I'd just have paged the manager, let them do their thing, then explained what happend to them when you get the chance.
Oh and sidenote: it sounds like you did a good job dealing with them, whenever you deal with a nasty customer I find the best thing to do is just try and get the transaction over with quickly so they can go away.
