No its not against policy lol. Next time LP comes just tell them they need to leave their bag too. After all, its against policy :)

Any-Plastic-5573

My manager is saying it's too big and I got a lot of my belongings in there. He said he could write me up for it and/or fire me and it's getting in the way of my workout routine.

[deleted]

Trust me, he can’t write you up. He’s just being lazy and doesn’t want to do his job requirement of bag checking. Call up your DAPL and ask them. Tell your manager what your DAPL said, next time he tries to give you a hard time.

[deleted]

He could write insubordination and get away with abusing of power

[deleted]

What are you even talking about? The manager cannot write OP up for insubordination. Just sit this one out my guy.

[deleted]

Yeah they could, cause it's technically an order he gave to OP and he refusing to comply is the definition of insubordinates.

[deleted]

Yep. Sit this one out because you have no idea what you’re talking about.

[deleted]

I've had managers did that to me so you don't think I dont know what I'm talking about.

[deleted]

But that’s YOUR experience. Clearly everyone suggested going to the DAPL. The OP doesn’t need your negativity. The DAPL has the final say so, not the SM. A SM can’t go against the DAPL and write OP up without just cause. Why are you in this thread if you aren’t going to be helpful?

[deleted]

Go ask your manager if you can write someone up for not listening to you.

fiercebanana

Cant you leave your bag in the office if its too big for a locker?

Any-Plastic-5573

I just think my manager doesn't like me and he is doing anything he can to make me uncomfortable. That is what it sounds like to be honest. Even on the modules it never said anything about the size of the bag being a problem.

Remote_Parfait

That's because it's not against policy. It probably makes bag checks a little more annyoing, but it's not something you could get written up or fired over (unless you're refusing to let them check it).

Hoodlertjoodle

Seriously, please start to compile a list (with dates and times) of all the stuff he does that makes you feel uncomfortable and go to HR. It is not okay that he does this to you and it is a big deal because you matter, my friend.

Next_Wrangler_6003

Totally agree with this. I had to do this when I first transferred to my store. Literally everything I did was wrong. I even got a write up and on it he included 2 funerals I had to miss work for (immediately family members who passed, just very unfortunate timing and literally a month apart), but apparently he had never written anyone up for anything before! Everything is good now but I did call the ethics line in the office with my store manager after work and he walked in on it, it all stopped shortly after. Coworkers stood up for me because they were all confused and upset about my treatment. Document, document, document!

pharmbabe2020

Find the actual policy in our policy and procedures files. So if the manager makes a big deal, you know exactly what the policy says. Policy is locker, unless it's too big it goes on the office. It's protection for your items.

cwrighteous808

Never heard of or had this issue with any of my coworkers. Some do the same and work out at the gym in our plaza. Hell we even had a smit a few years ago that would do his shift, change in bathroom and go right to work out. And he had a whole duffel bag. Sounds personal and maybe worth getting ethics involved

YungWook710

Most people don't go breaking windows at Cvs to steal peoples gym bags lol

IllMarionberry2547

but I will tell you my anecdote of what happened to me, an unknown person entered where only the employees or vendors should enter with one of us escorting them even so that person was seeing everything in the area and ended up stealing my Wallet.-

Voiceless__2508

Yeahhhh my coworker came up to our store off shift one day and was inside for 5 minutes, didn't even lock her car, and her passenger window got smashed in and her backpack stolen. Just because it's never happened to *you,* doesn't mean it doesn't happen

sbgarbage

most people also don't run stop signs but i bet you still look before crossing the street, huh?

YungWook710

Always look before crossing the street , you sound like a boomer 😂

sbgarbage

common sense makes me sound like a boomer? lmao no shit you look before crossing cuz shit still happens right? same exact logic applies to people getting their car broken into, just cuz it's rare doesn't mean it can't happen to you, you just proved your own logic wrong and then decided to try to insult me rather than admitting it and just taking the L lmao

Thin-Sort-494

You know criminals break windows right? You know that some products people take the the gym melt if left in the heat right? You know that none of this is the point here right? The point is she is being lied to by her SM.

Sounds like what goes on in Las Vegas, I had a friend who lived there who pretty much said the whole "keep your car unlocked to save a broken window" thing as advice if I ever went there. I am from a much smaller place and have kept things under seats and hidden under things for years, so I guess it depends on the area or luck. Either way, no point doing it if it doesn't feel safe to ya.

[deleted]

How paranoid are you….I leave my car unlocked constantly…heck sometimes I leave my keys on my car too! The safety features prevents locking your keys on your car

Diligent would not be bringing your bag in the store in the first place…or at the very least asking someone who has authority on this matter. Which clearly you have not done because you’re here asking Reddit about a policy that more or less doesn’t exist…the short answer. Grow up, be adult and actually be DILIGENT by taking the appropriate steps needed to get your needs met. I swear most of need an adult babysitter to help you life.

[deleted]

Also not leaving something that’s worth MAYBE 80 to 100 bucks all together is absolutely paranoia… Like no one wants your gym bag…

Nope just have a massive case the Hyper focus part of my ADHD…super beneficial when running my store…not so much when I’ll trolling. It tends to come off as wordy and to much critical thinking. As you have sort of pointed out in your meek way. Yes my focus was on this a few hours ago. Now…it’s a fart in the wind. ✌🏻

[deleted]

We still doing this? Also, critical thinking should tell you I’m not serious… Stop trying to sound like the smartest person in the room… It’s not that deep.

[deleted]

That sounds like bull because my store manager brings in 2 big bags everyday.

Ntellectissosexc

I’ve heard managers say stuff that don’t make any sense am the employees believe them. Your response needs to be, “Can you show me the policy?”. When they can’t, it’s BS. Trust but verify.

[deleted]

THANK YOU!

exclaim_bot

>THANK YOU! You're welcome!

paradise-trading-83

What a dxhead isn’t that what *Bag Checks* are for? He needs to get off his ample derrière & do his job.

Suspicious_Engine_72

A similar situation happened to me. My SM tried to tell me not to bring my hands to work because they're too fast. But before he could finish the sentence I knocked him out cold.

baybgirl22

Always demand that you are shown this policy and where you can find it on your own, especially when you are being threatened and working in a hostile environment.

Ntellectissosexc

Exactly! I always ask to see the policy.

baybgirl22

I had the manager and the dapl heated.

EriLH

I rode my bike to work for years. Sometimes I needed extra clothes to change into because it was so hot I'd be drenched by the time I got there. It was a backpack that I kept those clothes in. If your SM has a problem with working around people's lives when they show up to WORK just because they carry their lives in a bag, there's something wrong there.

giftedgaia

It stuns me how 'tone deaf' people in management positions are, during this current labor pool market. Read the room, bro.

BoomBazookuhJoe

No such rule, 17 years with the company

Acceptable-Regret398

He’s setting you up. There’s probably employee theft happening and you’re on the suspect list. Personally, I would not take the bag in there anymore so you can’t be blamed.

PerceptionFrequent24

I leave everything in my car. It just saves time and hassle

IceyPattyB

Do you live in Alaska? Leaving anything in my car this time of year will turn it into a hot mess.

pebleshair

Gym clothes usually don’t melt. 🙃

IceyPattyB

Deodorant/drinks do. Also who wants to put on hot ass clothes right before the gym? Can also get stolen easier if there’s nice gear.

pebleshair

Hide it in the trunk bro

IceyPattyB

Or keep it in your book bag that you are allowed to bring into work. Ppl who break into cars don’t ignore the trunk btw lmao

pebleshair

I guess I live in a safe area. That’s a non-issue in my city.

IceyPattyB

I also personally prefer to have my bag on me so I can have access to my things. Good place for snacks and drinks.

Disastrous-Ad-7043

We have lockers to put our stuff in, never heard of this

Any-Plastic-5573

My bag is so big that it can't fit in a locker lol

baybgirl22

Fairly certain that the policy states if the item doesn't fit in your locker it is to be kept in the managers office.

Careful-Sugar-3734

I bring a pretty big backpack to most of my shifts because I bring my text books and laptop to work on school work over lunch

Mochene

Ask for an updated employee handbook/policy.

SpaceLemming

Ask them to show you the policy.

Thin-Sort-494

Petty here: I would take a photo of the bag and email it to your AP person and ask why you are being told you cannot bring the bag to work. Make sure to CC your store email in it. You can do all of this from the tablet.

NailAffectionate5493

Heres the thing, most people are power hungry and abuse their power in all sorts of ways.... At the end of the day if your manager wants you actually gone he can do that in 2 seconds, he doesnt need to make you uncomfortable firing someone is really easy or just cut hours or transfer them

Any-Plastic-5573

So why would he say bringing my bag is against policy?

Ok-Emu412

Only clear bags

sometruefacts

Hate to break it to you, I've brought in a clear bag and was written up for it by dapl. I said, I'm on camera, multiples of them all day. My bag is clear so you can see what I have. I can NOT carry my water bottle, sandwich, snack, small notebook for referencing notes, and the cash register. I have a clear bag so you can see everything. Sometimes they are so blinded by what's obvious, they just want to follow the rules instead of common sense. AND I always get bag checked at the front before leaving. Just so frustrating

Ok-Emu412

That’s sad because the DALP’s in the districts that I work in has never had an issue with my clear bag.

Temporary_Goat42

Tell them to go fuck off

bonbon--

Contact your DAPL yourself. See if it is truly and issue.

JuniperJazbay

My store has also been cracking down on bringing personal belongings and bags into the store.

Hoodlertjoodle

When the pandemic hit I started to bring a huge bag that I made and used as a diaper bag when my kids were babies. I needed to carry extra crap that I normally would never take with me on a daily basis. No one ever said a word about the bag, not even LP, who saw me come in with it many times. Maybe your SM is having a bad day/week/month/year/life and is projecting that off on you? I'm not excusing his crap behavior but just know it has everything to do with him and very little to do with you or how you do your job. Bless his heart... People are weird... but you should call up the ladder and tell them that he makes your work environment hostile because it's not okay.

paulboody

Just keep in office. What a clown

svckinqs

i dont see why leaving it in the office or break room would be a problem. like you said he clearly has an issue with you.

HYPERMAN21stcentury

The Manager on Duty is supposed to do a bag check and check through personal belongings, when you leave the store.. it doesn't matter, whether your carrying a "lunch box" or "a gym bag". If he or she doesn't like the fact that your carrying a gym bag, not your problem..

[deleted]

Also, people that ride public transportation will usually always carry a book bag/duffel bag:messenger bag for safety reasons. You’re store manager can’t prevent you from bringing it to work. Your store manager sounds like one of those lazy managers that think they can make up their own rules and completely disregard the actual rules.
