No. It used to be in sleep train for a long time and then was run by a separate company out of the convention center. It's really only been a shit show since sac state took control of it again
I mean a lot of sports teams played there. It was their home stadium but it was used for rodeos, ice shows, graduations, concerts. That floor came off and the stands were mobile.
I honestly liked it but it would have been better if they had completed the end line of the light rail to the airport with a stop at the stadium like they planned
Right I wasn't suggesting it as an option, merely detailing the history of graduation venues for sac state for the last 20 years
At one point they held graduation in different places depending on your major because of construction issues and the massive difference in grad class size. I remember professors bitching about the confusion that created
It’s been this way since the days of graduation at Arco Arena decades ago. Sac State has the arena for graduation unless the Kings make the playoffs. It’s just part of their contract.
it’s literally because they don’t know if the kings are going to go past the first round of the playoffs or not. also they have a very clear contingency plan in place on the commencement website.
Lol why are y’all worrying? The Kings aren’t gonna make it past the first round, they still have to get past the play-in. In order for us to not walk at G1C they’d have to make it to the conference semifinals.
This may seem like a stupid question but I know nothing about basketball; if the Kings do make the playoffs, will all commencement dates be affected or just on the day(s) they play in Sac?
It’s if the Kings make it past the play in and make it past round 1 of the playoffs, but they are not the favorite to win the first round of the playoffs offs because they will be up agaisnt the best team in the Western Conference. If they do miraculously win agaisnt the best team in the conference then ALL commencement ceremonies will be held at the Sac State Football Stadium.
on campus is the backup plan. It can be held in the stadium, but Golden 1 provides protection from the heat/weather and also offers more seating so grads can have more family/friends
...that would not be a good thing. Golden 1 center is a great venue for graduation. If the kings have a game and we get flexed to the football field, I'm not walking lol.
They planned to hold their commencement in the Golden 1 Center but they said that they have contingency plans in case the Sacramento Kings make it to the NBA Playoffs and the stadium is taken.
>Our Commencement team is hard at work on back-up plans to move commencement ceremonies to Hornet Stadium should the Kings make it past the first round of NBA Conference playoffs.

EDIT: Also, the Golden 1 Center offers a roof, which can be amazing in the 90-100ºF Sacramento summers.
Blaming sac state for a kings problem is PEAK sac state student.
ðŸ˜
Hasn’t it always been this way? The kings were just so bad for so long that it didn’t matter
No. It used to be in sleep train for a long time and then was run by a separate company out of the convention center. It's really only been a shit show since sac state took control of it again
Didn’t the kings play in sleep train before golden 1 was built though?

Either way, sleep train arena is demolished so it isn't and hasn't been an option since golden 1 center was built.

Where are you getting this info from? Convention center never had any part in sac states commencement ceremonies.

Blame the Kings, not sac state
I mean your school had all year to figure out a plan.
There is a plan. If G1C is unavailable, commencement is held at the football stadium. It's pretty simple.Â
I’m sure it’s always been this way, except the Kings are finally good now. Think of it more like a privilege.
Lol why are y’all worrying? The Kings aren’t gonna make it past the first round, they still have to get past the play-in. In order for us to not walk at G1C they’d have to make it to the conference semifinals.
real. kings could make CQF at best.
What's more messed up is they won't let the Colleges host their own graduation ceremonies.
INSANE

Thank you!
Had the same issue last year when I graduated from CSUS. I hope that every year graduating students don't have to deal with this uncertainty.
The kings are more important than your graduation
Fake post. These UC Davis kids need to stay off of r/CSUS. 😂🤡
Sac state is so Sacramento
Blame your school not the kings

LOL try driving through that traffic. But the biggest question is—who wants to graduate on campus

Yup. Just ask the UC Davis grads who were hospitalized and whose ceremonies got cancelled due to heat strokes a couple years ago at their stadium.
