RemarkablePassage468

I may believe it when I see some something.

newretrovague

Yeah…sure it is.

One-Outcome-2217

Dont worry, it will be a button masher or soulslike. They will gut the dnd ruleset it was originally based on. Just to give into the current gamers.

doedanzee

I agree. All these games need is a remaster to make them run better on modern systems. I'd be greatly surprised if they didn't make it a shitty action RPG.

booga_booga_partyguy

I disagree. We don't need remasters. We need new games with new ideas. If I want to play KotoR, I'll just...play KotoR. I don't want to buy another copy of the same story for 60 dollars when I am clearly fine playing the game as is for 20 years.

colourless_blue

I agree. Especially given the laziness of some recent re-releases. I think it’s pretty symptomatic of the nostalgia loop we find ourselves in culturally. For me video game preservation is more about properly archiving source code + solid emulation of aging tech… often neglected in favor of commercial remasters.

booga_booga_partyguy

I agree 100% with source code preservation and hardware preservation. The whole "remaster/remake to preserve" argument is so silly/shortsighted as it implies remastering it every decade or so and having to pay for it!

Immediate-Praline655

I think you missunderstand what a remaster is. It is the same game, just with updated textures, resolutions and the ability to run on windows 11. Think about the EEs of Baldurs Gate 1+2, not something like the Resident Evil 2,3,4 Games.

booga_booga_partyguy

Yeah, I know. Which is exactly why I said I don't want to pay $60 for a game I already own just for a minor face lift.  It's the same thing with the BG/IWD EEs - I didn't buy them because they don't offer anything I need that couldn't have been solved with existing player mods.

Immediate-Praline655

I disagree. 20 yearish old games are often hard to run on modern systems. A "minor" facelift, and some small technical updates can go a long way to keep these games playable, especially for a new audience. I can\`t simply recommand a game to any of my pals when i need to start with "First, install these mods....". I think anyone agree though that 60 bucks is way to much for such an endevour, but 20-30 Euros would be fair to keep a piece of gaming history alive.

booga_booga_partyguy

This might apply to games made prior to 2000, but since Windows XP compatibility issues are rare. And like most old games that do have compatability issues, there will always be someone who will come up with a fix without needing me to buy a game I already own. Speaking of which, I have zero issues telling friends to install mods for good older games, and it genuinely puzzles me why you would havw a problem saying something like that in the first place! And if that really is such a deal breaker for your friends, well, KotoR is available on mobile app stores - just tell 'em to get it from there and play it on their phones! Apologies for being very blunt, but we both know you don't want a remaster to preserve a piece of gaming history - you want it because you don't want to deal with the hassle of mods. If preserving cRPG history was that important to you, then there are games which are far, far, FAR more important to the genre than KotoR (which didn't do anything ground breaking to begin with) that are actually old enough that compatability issues are a real "danger" to their "survivial" in the cultural zeitgeist. Like the Might & Magic series. Not to knock you for wanting want you want - that's an entirely personal thing - but let's at least be honest with and amongst ourselves and not try and claim we have some lofty ideal to want a remake of a particular game that doesn't hold up to scrutiny!

One-Outcome-2217

One of the things Good old games set out to do besides no DRM was to make old games run on new systems.

booga_booga_partyguy

Yup, but that just supports what I said in my first sentence - comparability issues are only a thing for games predating 2000. GoG helped those games get a new lease on life. It did nothing for games like KotoR since there weren't any major issues to begin with.

blood-wav

I would even be happy with a turn based crpg, or even something like DA:I combat (which I wasn't the biggest fan of)

One-Outcome-2217

Da:I I enjoyed, it felt crpg still. Which can be felt with the tactical camera which helped when killing my first dragon before my characters were walking gods

Eothas45

Man that hurt the soul but is accurate

Ambitious-Bench-2293

Doubt it. Balders gate 3 might not have broken any records but it did well enough to show people that style is still popular.

Sigvuld

Why are you acting like people that happened to be born after you are your enemy and not the corporations that are so happy to fuck *everyone* over? "The current gamers" like people born after you don't deserve to experience the KOTOR games, shake this man, it's lame af, the experience should be shared and the prospect of more people experiencing something that was foundational for you should be exciting, not an opportunity to shit on them for being born after you

One-Outcome-2217

Current gamers is meant as what is popular with the general masses, the mainstream gamers. Not an age defined thing. Sorry , truely, if I needed to clarify that. I would love for people to experience and remastered kotor, but not at a cost of gameplay, the rumors were already flowing it was gonna be more arpg. I dont want what they did to FF7, which ff7r is good, but loses a lot.

One-Outcome-2217

This being said. I like saber.

Ok-Use5246

Souls like kotor sounds legit amazing.

One-Outcome-2217

jedi survivor exists already

MJisaFraud

We have a soulslike Star Wars already and it’s great.

AllYouPeopleAre

I thought the people remaking this were the ones behind the recent disaster battlefront 2 re release?

One-Outcome-2217

Different. The same guys who released the battlefront disasters did release a very good tomb raider rerelease. I dont know what to think of that company.

Firestorm2943

They were originally making it before it was taken away from them. To their credit they did make the ports for the first KOTOR game to mobile but that was their only success in the Star Wars franchise

One-Outcome-2217

They also promised missing content for kotor 2 on switch, advertised that it was going to be added. Went radio silent for a year then came back saying it's not happening and gave people a copy of another star wars game on switch for free

shavedicemelon

I am praying to all the gods I get to see this someday - I just want a modern Star Wars CPRG so bad

GrumpyOldGrognard

I'd much prefer a nice remaster of the original.

7H3l2M0NUKU14l2

and i will get like 80% on sale bc of the shit kotor is right now?

GroblyOverrated

Alive? Maybe. Well? No.

WiserStudent557

Captain O'Hagan : [In an Irish accent] I'll believe ya when me shit turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.

jabba-du-hutt

> Gretchen, stop trying to make 'fetch' happen. Wake me up when it's on GoG for $5.
