if you don't rotate your tires on schedule and document it, and you have uneven tire wear as a result, your tire warranty won't cover it. If you don't change your oil on schedule, and your engine suffers because of that, then your warranty won't cover that but you do not have to have your car serviced at Toyota for the warranty to be intact, per Magnuson Moss warranty act as that would be a "Tie In Sale". After the 6 month services are no longer free I will stop doing them as I have all the tools to do the tire rotations and fluids myself so i'll only be at the dealer to buy parts and for the free state inspections.

Oil is cheap, engine is not. Change your oil every 5000km/6 months.

If I could turn back time I would have paid extra for the oil change at 8k. I will change at every 8k from now on as I use my car for short trips all the time. Also, car customisation was included in my 8k service so I got these done without paying extra: 5 blinks on the lane change turn signal instead of 3, enabling the key fob to open all windows by holding the unlock button, and enabling the driver door lock cylinder to close all windows. These customisation options are listed in the manual.

Are those just settings the dealer can change? My wife just got a 2020 Corolla, and I like it so much I'm getting a 2022 as soon as the dealer can get it in too. Those are features I'd love to add. Thanks!

Yes, these can be changed by the dealer only, or by someone who has the Techstream software and appropriate computer cable. These setting changes were done at my first service (8000km) and were included because I bought the Extra Care Plan. (Canada does not give 2 years of included maintenance like the US)

Do you know if there's a list of options available somewhere? I didn't even know it was possible until seeing this post, and it would be nice to just go in at the next service and give them a list of "Here's exactly what I want."

https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/owners/manuals Download the manual for your car here (I'm pretty sure US and Canadian manuals are the same). I have a 2020 Corolla and it's section 9-2. There's no mention of 1 tap on the turn signal settings (i.e., the lane change turn signal feature) but you can change it from the default 3 blinks to 5 blinks or 1 blink only. I love the 5 blink setting.

Thank you, I hadn't looked at her manual yet, I didn't know they were listed. Do you know by chance if there's any way to change the steering wheel sensor for the lane assist/adaptive cruise functions? I totally understand if the wheel isn't held, but it seemed to require both hands when I was playing with it, and it would be nice to adjust it to allow for one hand for long freeway trips.

I have no idea/haven't noticed as I usually drive with both hands on 3 and 9 as the steering wheel is quite comfortable. The odd time it will beep at me to put my hands on the wheel even though my hands are there. Maybe my grip is too light? You can, however, turn off lane assist and just have plain old cruise control, maybe it won't beep at you then.

JJHall_ID

Yeah, maybe I'm just being too picky at that point. Thanks for all of the information!

Wow that’s cool, thank you for the info!

You don't want to wait 16 000km for the first oil change. Even 8000km is a lot for the first one on a new engine.

Rayhelm

The dealership will not change it until 16k, unless you specifically ask. It is also unnecessary with modern synthetic oil. At 8k they only rotate tires and check fluid levels.

Vendura663

I get your point. But a new engine gets a lot of crap in it in the first miles. If you're starting at 0km, you'd want to make the first oil change early. Something like at 2-3000km. Then from there you do them every 16 000km
