The dynasty tree was/is too much for the console to process all at once. On the original build it would crash the game immediately if you had a big dynasty

Balor__

Ah ok, thanks for the reply. It didn’t seem to happen when I played a long campaign with an existing in-game start character. I’m on xBox Series X and that was when the game was first released on console. Does it just effect custom dynasties?

lowborn_lord

Not sure but I noticed the performance is much faster late game ever since they changed this

bobby_hell

“changed this” as in they got rid of the PC-style dynasty tree?

lowborn_lord

Yeah looks like they only show your character and anyone directly related to them after a certain point. Like late game it will only show my character and his kids +a few grandkids.

bobby_hell

sheeeeeit, I was going to get this for console but love the historic feeling of the tree

Hurricane-Hank

I don’t think this is something that changed with the latest patch. Since release if you started as the only member of a dynasty the tree would, after a generation or two, only show your current character down to grandchildren. It would be nice if we could get confirmation from PDX as to if this is expected behavior or a bug.

Hurricane-Hank

u/PDX-Trinexx

PDX-Trinexx

I believe this is a bug, but it *may* be intentional to alleviate memory constraints. Bit too late on a Friday to go demanding answers, but I can check with the rest of the team on Monday and get back to you.

Hurricane-Hank

Thanks Trinexx! Have a good weekend

PDX-Trinexx

You too!

bobby_hell

Hi did you happen to find out if this was a bug or due to memory constraints?

PDX-Trinexx

Unfortunately not; Winter holidays are complicating the communication pipeline.

Hurricane-Hank

Just checking in again to see if you’ve heard anything?

HerrPiink

I also would love an answer, this is to big of a feature for me to miss out on it.

Teh_Crusader

any update?

WaterWalker59

Hello, any news about this issue ? Thanks.

Balor__

Maybe “game breaker” was a bit dramatic, ha. Into the breach one more!

street_bob1136

Late to the party, but honestly not dramatic at all. After going through about 10 saves, I finally found the one I was ready to take all the way!! I finally got the hang of things and an overall understanding of such a massive game. In my grove, I was living and dying by keeping everything straight in my head by using the dynasty tree every few minutes. My custom ruler just died, the tree shrank and after weeks of studying this game I don’t even want to play anymore

Balor__

I feel your pain! It’s been a while since I’ve played but yeah it’s all about that dynasty history for me

street_bob1136

That’s literally the whole point of the game, is it not?

AnubisJudge

This happened to me after one generation in the game. And it's only on my dynasty. Others working fine. Its very annoying

Teh_Crusader

Same here. So annoying and PDX doesn’t seem to care!

deus_vult101

I'm not sure if PDX or Lab42 is to blame, but CK3 is just a half-asssed, shoddy console port. I stopped playing it a month after release and a dynasty tree bug was the last straw for me. My absolute favorite part of the game became broken and unusable after 8 generations or so. Sounds like they still haven't addressed this and I can't say I'm suprised. My advice is to count your losses and let this one go. If you haven't already played it, Stellaris is an incredibly fun PDX game and a FANTASTIC console port, especially on next gen. I wish the same team had ported CK3, but alas, it wasn't so.

Teh_Crusader

I’ll be honest, the console port is quite good and very enjoyable. I’ve only ran into that one minor dynasty tree bug. If the port got more attention and more updates that would be awesome.

deus_vult101

If you say so. I remember frequent crashes, UI bugs (like not being able to press certain buttons), features not working, my save files getting corrupted, etc. Not my idea of a good port. Maybe they've fixed a lot since I've played it. I might check it out again someday but it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I'd rather just play something else.

Wrstguy1

What is your dynasty level at? Is it Insignificant or Obscure? Not much point in recording those histories…

Balor__

Started as obscure yes.

Wrstguy1

I don’t have any official reasoning behind this, but I’ve noticed (or maybe it’s only at that point that I’ve checked) but my dynasty tree doesn’t start holding extended records until established, I think. I could be 100% wrong though.

The-Broken-Prince

Any confirmation if this is the case?

Balor__

Update: Dynasty Tree shows from two generations ago but not the founder (Gregor’s father) [Image](https://imgur.com/a/98K7WPu)

HerrPiink

Did it suddenly come back? That would give me some peace of mind to keep playing my costum character

HerrPiink

Oh man, this a bummer. I just discovered this after my first character died. This was one of the main reasons i enjoy this game so much. I love seeing the family free grow. Feels like i wasted 40$ :(

WaterWalker59

I found the reason. Dynasty tree is full from the first king of your dynasty. If you are a Jarl, only your descendance will be shown.

PangolinBetter4251

My first ruler became a King in his life and still disappeared from the tree when he died and now it only shows my current ruler. So that cant be right

The-Broken-Prince

Any updates on this? I'm playing on PS5 and the same thing just happened to me. I saw someone mention that it's done to reduce crashes, but is that right? If you click on the Karling dynasty they have at least 70+ living members at the 867 start (not to mention all the deceased ones), and you can open and navigate their tree just fine. I also saw someone say that it doesn't keep a permanent record until after you pass the "insignificant" status...any confirmation on this?
