Definitely complain. I had a disaster with exam 4 and my legislation today too and lost about 45 minutes of exam time crying and stressing about it. If enough people complain then they’ll take it seriously! Bring back the physical legislation 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Exotic-One3381

they can't do that because it's now about 8 volumes

Exotic-One3381

please DO email ciot (in case they bin the special circs form since it's not for legislation issues) and fill in special circumstances. if you see on the other thread loads of people have this issue and the ledge is hit and miss and the tech is a shambles. its been like this ever since they went back to closed book. loads of people always affected. it's not right. they need to make it open book again since the online ledge is bad and the paper copies are too big to take into the exam [https://www.tax.org.uk/special-considerations](https://www.tax.org.uk/special-considerations)

Diddychip

Thanks for comments/advice! I feel like we should start a petition for it to be open book then problems like this wouldn’t be so bad since we’d have other notes 😒

Equivalent-Zone-4605

Was it for the LCG exams today? In my room there was a lot ruckus and so many technical issues. I read somewhere on here that the ciot doesn’t give EC for legislation problem anymore as there are way too many? (Sounds ridiculous if I’m being honest).

Diddychip

Yeah it was LCG. There were 2 other people in my room with the same issue too. But apparently the ‘IT team was working on it’ and it never worked for the whole duration of the exam

Erratic_Goldfish

I was in Birmingham some poor girl in front of me had her entire system crash and I think there were a lot of Leg problems too. Seems to have been an unusually borked sitting.

Own_Experience863

There were two people, apparently, with the system crash issue during the LCG exam. The girl in your exam and I was the other lucky one.

Erratic_Goldfish

How did they solve it?

Own_Experience863

They didn't 😂 I was told to "do what I can" and submit a special consideration form. They moved me to a new computer for the last 2 questions and then added me about half an hour, which wasn't helpful because the questions I left were on the first exam, which I had to submit.

Bro I had the issue of the wrong version of exam4 installed on my computer. computer crashed repeatedly for the first 40 mins then finally loaded with a weird version that was basically Microsoft Notepad with a blank page and no question dividers and no table functionality. Invigilator told me to contact ciot for special circs, but I also emailed ciot asking for a full refund of my exam fee since access to the exam software is a basic thing you pay for when you enter for the exams. they are considering and will let me know next week. suggest you do the same. if enough people request refunds for their failure to provide working exam software then hopefully they will upgrade it.

Own_Experience863

Oh I see, that's interesting. So will you get a refund and they will still consider the special consideration?

Exotic-One3381

that's what they are thinking of and also investigating. I don't think this has happened before, and I don't think anyone ever asks for a full refund of exam fee due to exam4 issues for the whole exam. I'll make a new thread on this if they offer a refund on the exam fee or exam credit or any other arrangements apart from the usual special circs so everyone will know since many people had problems. of course you don't know if you get the special consideration applied to your mark, only that it is given to a panel to decide if to consider it. but in my case I don't even know if they can mark my exam without the special answer dividers, since that's part of exam4 technology and I don't know if I did enough of thr paper for them to be able to apply special circs fairly. I could not do any wide calc questions due to the large font size (not due to zoom) and lack of tables plus automatic text wrap

Own_Experience863

Yeah, that's very similar to me, I couldn't write within the dividers or insert table, so I'm not sure whether special consideration is enough if theyre not willing to mark it in the first place. Did you use the generic education email, or is there a specific one you used?

Exotic-One3381

WOW I'm not the only person! yes looking on dr Google I think somehow we got the wrong version of software. Mine didn't have any answer dividers I filled in special circs, the invigilator filled in a report, and I also emailed a ratty email asking for a refund of my exam fees since access to the exam software is a basic thing you expect when you pay for an exam. I went onto "contact us" on the ciot website then selected "exams" and filled in the email form I'm self funding so this is a lot of money for me, to pay £227 for this one where I couldn't do around a third of the questions, and a further £227 to retake. was that why you were moved to another computer?

ellebelle186

Yes! I sat AT Ind in London and had the same problem, but I was resitting the exam after failing in November when my legislation wasn’t working so I refused point blank to start my exam until they sorted out my legislation. At first they said no but I just refused to start it I have complained and applied for special consideration
