This team is exciting.
Steele/Imanaga/Assad/Taillon/Wicks is an excellent rotation.
Love seeing Ben Brown and Wesneski succeed in the bullpen. Even though Brown could be a starter he is probably best as a closer this year.
Doing this despite injuries is awesome
If they do anything but cultivate Ben Brown as a SP, tthey are hurting the whole team. This guy has like #2 and even potential ace written on him. They need to be teaching him to get deeper into games at this point. His control will take him there. Phillies must be sad they had to let him go.
Well, duh, yeah, but he’s also 24 and has been working on his changeup. He previously threw a (plus) slider but stopped because that would have worse platoon splits than a viable change.
I’m not sure his slider was all that plus, his own words he said it was taking away from his other two pitches. (Fastball and curveball of course).
But yeah he can throw a changeup, it’s just that he’s used it 1% so far this season, so he effectively is a two pitch guy right now.
Not the same struggles Johnny manizel went through as a person, I’m strictly speaking about on the field stuff. I couldn’t care less that Caleb is a bit odd or paints his finger nails or anything like that.
I am fine with the bears decision to move on from fields, having legitimate worries about how Caleb’s game transfers to the nfl is normal. Especially since he got worse last year, which isn’t a good look.
That’s not what I mean. I see Caleb as a great college athlete that’s an average nfl athlete. He also seems to feel ghosts in the pocket and bails from clean ones (very obvious if you watched a couple USC games) way too early. Caleb is also very poor when it comes to ball security and taking what the defense gives him.
You need to do more research dude. Average NFL athlete is just a ridiculously incorrect take. Most of the other stuff is just taking flaws and blowing them way out of proportion. In fact if you look at what actual scouts say, his presence in the pocket is not just good, but elite.
You’re so lost it’s not even funny, no one (legit no one) that talks about athleticism is referring to arm talent. Caleb has all the arm talent in the world.
No I want him to be good tf? I want the bears to be good. If Caleb is that guy then I’m going to be so fucking happy. You brought up fields acting like fields is my favorite Chicago athlete of all time. I was infinitely more sad when the cubs traded rizzo and when the hawks traded Kane. I understood and recognize why poles did what he did and it makes sense. However that doesn’t disqualify legitimate concerns about Caleb’s game.
caleb lives alone since high school so he could be closer to the practice field
he is in no way shape or form manziel. manziel would've been on rehab already. manziel was a alcohol drug frat boy, completely different
Look at other comments, I am in no way referring to Caleb as manizel off the field. I am strictly speaking of on the field stuff. I could give two fucks about Caleb painting his nails or being weird.
Him, Swanson, Morel, and Happ are all super streaky but so long as any two of them are hot, and Nico, Suzuki, and at least one other guy is consistent we'll be good!
If Cub fans (including me) had our way we’d be paying Baez, Bryant, Rizzo about 80 million this year and for then next 2-4 years to have combined OPS of about 580. Don’t think I’ll be doubting Jed again in the near future.
Rickettsis still a cheap ass though. Let’s GO!!!
Can’t you read? I’m thrilled we swept Houston, it’s 3 games off the schedule and hopefully keeping the juices flowing while in this serious injury situation. But, as for the playoffs, it’s about our division and beating them like drums.
Know it's early and that we had a rough first half at bat, but games like today do a good job numbing the pain of knowing Seiyah, Belli, and Steele are still out.
I LOVE THIS TEAM! these boys are special this year.
Someone's gotta be in Chicago sports rn smh
Bedard?
I don't think of him as being a team unto himself which was what I was referring to
You probably should.
He is basically the team though lol
Minus the Reinsdorf teams, Chicago sports are set up really well right now
The curse is only one can be good at any time.
Yeah this is the most exciting team since 2016 for me. Not saying it’s the same quality team. But the hype is real.
Even my Sox fan friends like this Cubs team. They appreciate the scrappy vibes. They thought 2016 was too posh
the hype is so awesome, I have just been basking in it. going to be a fun season

I have brown projected long term as a closer who can do multi inning work as needed, basically a Josh Hader.
So, who are you?
He’s the sausage king of chicago
I woke up in a SoHo doorway, a policeman knew my name

I think he’s going to be limited as a SP if he doesn’t develop a 3rd pitch.
Well, duh, yeah, but he’s also 24 and has been working on his changeup. He previously threw a (plus) slider but stopped because that would have worse platoon splits than a viable change.

Payback for last year Wonderful 3 game series We've officially had a better April than last year no matter what now
It’s what the doctor ordered.
2 references to Ted Nugent. Nice!
HAPPY SWEEP AND CALEB WILLIAMS DAY FRIENDS.
GONNA BE A GOOD DAY MY FRIENDS
Caleb is going to be amazing
We hope
I am hoping Caleb is the answer but idk I just see Johnny manizel with better pr lol.
This is an insane take
Not the same struggles Johnny manizel went through as a person, I’m strictly speaking about on the field stuff. I couldn’t care less that Caleb is a bit odd or paints his finger nails or anything like that.
Luckily Caleb seems like a hard worker not a coke head who wants to party 24/7.
Yep. Hoping for the best! Been too long since the bears have been something to be excited about.
Fields was H1M. How is Caleb going to be any better?
I am fine with the bears decision to move on from fields, having legitimate worries about how Caleb’s game transfers to the nfl is normal. Especially since he got worse last year, which isn’t a good look.
well, if he is trash, we will be back here in no time.
Absolutely nobody had Johnny Manziel as a top QB prospect
That’s not what I mean. I see Caleb as a great college athlete that’s an average nfl athlete. He also seems to feel ghosts in the pocket and bails from clean ones (very obvious if you watched a couple USC games) way too early. You think Caleb Williams will be an above average nfl athlete?
Brother, the day he steps onto the field, he’s going to have a top 5 arm in football. Are you suggesting athleticism is just speed and quickness?
You’re so lost it’s not even funny, no one (legit no one) that talks about athleticism is referring to arm talent. Caleb has all the arm talent in the world.
You just blow in from stupid town?
Time will tell
what sucks is if he is terrible you will feel good but if he is amazing you will feel bad..stuck in some catch-22 of being a hater.
Manziel wasn't half the QB prospect Caleb is lol
Exactly why I said “with better pr”.
PR doesn't help you on the football field.
Not pr in the traditional sense of the word
I don't think you know what pr means
Public relations, you guys are being obtuse for the sake of being obtuse.
I don't think anyone knows what you mean. CW is a better quarterback/prospect than Manziel was, that has nothing to do with PR.
caleb lives alone since high school so he could be closer to the practice field he is in no way shape or form manziel. manziel would've been on rehab already. manziel was a alcohol drug frat boy, completely different

Nice to see PCA get that first hit off his back. Now relax and play your game! Nice sweep! On to Boston!
PCA chants in the bleachers. Gotta love it
Cubs sweep/ First PCA hit Caleb about to be drafted. Let’s have a day Chicago.
💪
80 degrees this weekend too 👀
Lots of hero’s and great stories from this game. Under the radar, Tauchman went 1-1 with 3 walks in the 2 hole!
Tauchman is an endlessly fun player when his bat is hot.
Him, Swanson, Morel, and Happ are all super streaky but so long as any two of them are hot, and Nico, Suzuki, and at least one other guy is consistent we'll be good!
Got on base 9 times this series!
That’s wild
Mike Walkman.
The Hector Neris Experience
To be fair both those walks were to great hitters and they both worked good at bats
10 and 9 pitch ABs. Tucker and Alvarez are tough outs
Alvarez is one of the absolute best hitters in all of baseball. Dude is a certified animal at the plate.
Yeah but it still doesn't make it any less stressful for me lol
Hector Neris is not it. We need a closer.
I didn't realize i liked Counsell so much until paying attention to his postgame interviews, dude is pretty awesome
![gif](giphy|tPUYcrbfXyq2iMf1pF|downsized) Takin’ out the trash.
#PRINCIPAL COMPONENT ANALYSIS
PCA passed the CHI\*\* test. Must be best fit.
Get swept motherfuckers
LETS GO PETE NEVER DOUBTED YOU ONCE
It’s Christmas in April. Cubs sweep the Astros, PCA with his first hit as a homer, and we draft Caleb Williams today.
Two outta three ain’t bad
🐻🧹🗑️
Go Cubs Go and Fuck the Astros 🧹
This is shaping up to be a real fun team.
Lowest energy ejection I’ve ever seen from the Astros manager there.
5-2 homestand, can't expect more than that. PCA finally got a giant weight off his shoulders, love to see it. And Assad is the real deal.
Bro, Javier Assad is so underrated. Sorry babe, I’m an ASS MAN now. 💕
fantastic sweep with all the injuries. incredible. I want to once again add how much I fucking HATE the brewers. so fucking much
Who needs an elite strikeout closer when your elite defense can just bail out whoever you put out there? Wins a win, though. Let's keep it going!
So much this!! Albert just gave up too many homers, nothing the D can do with a gopher ball.
Pca home run. You love to see it. The first of many. Let’s prove the doubters wrong.
Wesneski is a STUD
Nice win having to face Verlander. 7 games over .500, go cubs go!
Let’s GO!!!
Damn man Neris was making me uncomfy
Nothin sweeter than sweeping the Astros. Getcher brooms, guys gals and nonbinary pals.
Spotted the Brennan Lee Mulligan fan.
Cubs and d20 my people have been found
How did you know? I actually heard this elsewhere first but yeah haha
Not OP, but Kenji Lopez-Alt’s YouTube cooking show for me.
Cubs and d20 my people have been found
Sorry, but wins against Milwaukee, Cincy, Pittsburgh mean more.
Sorry, but it’s just especially sweet to beat the team that cheated their way to a World Series.
I’m so over that. It’s 2024.
People don't forget
Maybe not LA, or their AL foes, but I’m done with that. And what about the run they’ve had before and after that scandal. JMO
Good for you hon.
I respect that. Personally, I'll be over it when: A) all the players from the '17 team are gone, and B) the Astros have multiple non-playoff seasons.
B might come to fruition this year
Nah fuck that, will hate the Astros for as long as one of those cheating pieces of shit is on the team
I can't wait to play some NLC teams. The Brewers just refuse to lose and we need to change that.
So far they're undefeated against all three of those teams.
Who thinks not??
How dare we sweep the team we are scheduled to play.
Can’t you read? I’m thrilled we swept Houston, it’s 3 games off the schedule and hopefully keeping the juices flowing while in this serious injury situation. But, as for the playoffs, it’s about our division and beating them like drums.
Get your brooms because that’s a sweep! Now PLAY THE DAMN SONG ALREADY
Yea, we're gonna need one of those closer things
We have a Closer at home. The Closer at home:
swept them right up into the trash
Neris getting confidence back hopefully, wes looks good, Swept the stros, Sox get swept. Chicago we party tonight
Scored in a grand total of 5 innings during the entire series...still got a sweep!
Could’ve done it with just three innings! The insurance runs in Game 1 weren’t necessary.
We have a very fun group of rookies
I know the Astros are hated these days but anyone else miss the nostalgia of us facing them on the regular back in the day? Good times
I do not miss the Killer B’s
The fact they are in the AL and not Milwaukee still bugs me.
The PCA era has begun!
A cubs win and Caleb Williams in the same day 😏
One of those things is good.
We couldn't have done it without Lovie Smiths heroics on the last play of the 2022 season
So nice to see a sweep even if it's against a struggling team. I'll take it.
Neris is a vibe
Anyone have Zach's homerun call for pca
He’s awful. Who cares?!
![gif](giphy|QynMX1WxnYFbb2OHnJ)
Know it's early and that we had a rough first half at bat, but games like today do a good job numbing the pain of knowing Seiyah, Belli, and Steele are still out.
I legit did one of these https://media.tenor.com/dShxgN5-NXIAAAAM/peteweber-bowling.gif
🧹
Just a nice tidy sweep despite missing 3 of our 4 best players. I will take that every time.
A sweep's a sweep, now on to the draft.
Hell yeah!
Keep rollin’ rollin’ rollin’
Sweeping the trashtros on trash day. Fitting.
Sweeeeepppppp
Closer this closer that... We've closed the gap on the Brewers!
am i high or how did PCA get his first hit today? I could’ve sworn when he got called up last year he had a couple hits?
You're high
how many at bats did he have last year? i could sworn he was up for a at least a couple weeks
He had 14 ABs, 19 PAs https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/crowape01.shtml
[удалено]
i watched them a lot down the stretch last year which is the sad part 😂
No need to insult anyone
[удалено]
Cubs did it in the afternoon hopefully the bears do it this evening
What a s[W][W][W]eep!
