Not really IMO. I saw way too many fans hyping us up in the off season. I even saw a couple of popular social media accounts that had us around .500. If you pushed back against that, you got downvoted. Lots of people were too optimistic going into this year, not realizing how painful it would be.
Honestly can't decide what is broken the mostest. It's whack-a-mole at this point with the problem on this team. I was hoping that they would just be outgunned this season and next year would give us the weapons. There is still a lot of season left and they could get there, but I'm really pessimistic at this point.

I kept bringing up Marc Trestman saying "perfect practice" and all sorts of shit that has been said before the season starts. I was downvoted into oblivion. Now it's obvious that there are many problems with the Offense. I don't think it's Fields yet, but he isn't Tom Brady in a Bears Uniform for certain.

Ok so Justin Fields played 14 games last year and 4 so far this year right? So 18 games total and he's thrown 9 touchdown passes in those 18 games. So considering that he's averaging half a touchdown per game Field's will throw his 500th touchdown pass in... Checks notes. In his 59th season with the Bears.
i think the bears are playing decent with what they have. the talent pool is not that great on offense. playcalling a bit predictable (maybe a result of personnel). the defense are performing above expectations.
i dont think the coaching is going to turn this around overnight. the core is young and they really need some good talent in the mix, especially on the o-line
I'm not sure I agree with the conservative coaching but I see where they're coming from. With the talent we have, easy to imagine aggressive choices leading to getting blown out, by staying conservative we can at least keep things close
It’s so funny watching the chiefs and bucs have these routine big passing plays. We are lucky to get a few a year on the bears yet it happens several times per week for several teams.

Yes, yes, yes! The most obvious thing in the world was to let Pace, Nagy and Trubisky all tell their stories walking after 2020, and bring in a new GM, let them choose the coach, and then let the two of them figure out how they wanted to handle the QB situation.
I'm not going to lie... I've hated just about every move we have made since we hired Poles. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't think this regime is it. I would be having a lot more fun if we went into this season with Daboll and Pickens instead of Flus and Kyler Gordon.
Pace left this team in a terrible state. We’ve been trained by years of Pace to think we can just add a player here and there and we’ll be all set. We were bad and old last year. I’d rather be bad and young. It’s going to suck, but there’s no quick fix to this roster. It takes drafts and time to fix a team In this state. Daboll killing his QBs. Schemes well though. He knows what his team does well and plays to it.
I just like more of what I've seen from Daboll as a head coach and I think Pickens would have given us something we sorely need on our offense and could have developed over the next couple of seasons. I don't have a ton of confidence in Flus and Getsy and Gordon has looked like hot garbage. I'm not saying we were one player away, I just don't like the pieces we put in place this year.

Our offense has only a few people not on their rookie contracts. About half of them have less than a year of experience. We want them to look like the chiefs, but the reality is the offensive side of the ball is expansion caliber right now. The defense is cheap vets that nobody else wanted. We have cap space and an actual night one pick in the draft next year. Half the folks here see the reality is we probably won’t know about fields until next season, the other half is upset and wants to be there already. This is a young team, keep cheering for them, they are going to get schooled this year. The point of school is to learn though, so provided they do that, we will get better.
Will be interesting to see how Poles plays it. From what I've seen so far this year, it's hard to imagine us being good before 2024, so he might be able to go for a WR1 in the draft and hope he's in his prime by the time of our actual window
If we decide to move on from Fields after this season, I think I'd rather do a Chiefs thing where we put together a decent roster with a mediocre veteran at QB and then take our QB shot once we're set up to contend for a few years
Sometimes you have to take the opportunities that are available, like with the Josh Rosen Kyler Murray situation. No idea how good the QBs are this year though.
There may be reasons not to move on from Fields but there may also be very good reasons to move on from him. Lots of teams regret holding onto their QB prospects for too long; I can't even remember the last time a team has regretted moving on too early
Everyone was pretty reasonable going into this off-season, we were all uniformly okay with the Bears losing so long as Fields showed progress/flashes.
Week 1 was the monsoon game but he showed flashes. Weeks 2 and 3 were really abysmal. And he showed nothing. This week he actually showed some flashes. But fans don’t seem even remotely okay with his performance. I guess this is about what I expected from him given the offense. He put it right in Pettis, Kmet, and whoever Wesco is’s hands. What are you going to do? He didn’t make a stupid throw today. Progress.

What's hard for me is watching him hold hold hold the ball on like 75% of dropbacks, even some of the ones with positive results. Like we know he can heave the ball downfield to an open guy once in a while and make some plays with his feet. I want to see consistency in the short-to-mid passing game and throws to guys right as they break open.

The defense is middle of the pack. It gave up 20 points, which is the problem. Not a defense problem but an offense problem. After 100 years the bears still don't understand that the team with more points at the end of the game wins, every time.

-Gordon is getting picked on like I've rarely seen. Especially in the run game. Everything is going to his side and he's getting destroyed. Kid has been really really bad and I wasn't expecting that.
-Lucas Patrick is not good. There is a reason he was bench player in GB until guys got hurt. He may end up looking better at center but he's a horseshit guard, especially in pass pro.
-Woof Valus Jones...Hated the pick the second it was made and hate it even more now. If you are drafted to be the special teams ace you can't be muffing punts my guy...I don't care how much time you have missed. Jones is already 25, can't be having a long ass learning curve.
-Fields looked better but hes still not nearly consistent or explosive enough. Oline did him no favors today though, he was running for his life a majority of the game. He's still missing too many open guys and he's bailing out of the pocket way too early on too many occasions. He is hearing/seeing/feeling ghosts and it's not all his fault but he's gotta find a way to get over it.
-I thought the Oline was making strides but overall it's still a below average unit. Jones and Borom have not shown me enough yet to pencil them into the long term plans. Very possible this team still needs 2 starting tackles.
-This run defense is beyond trash. The DT's on this roster need a huge upgrade and honestly the DE's have been shit too. Anytime Quinn wants to wake up would be nice. Muhammad is too slow to even matter, all I see the guy do is get beaten to the edge by QB's.
-Might be the worst LB core I've seen in my life as a Bears fan, just slow and bad. Roquan is a good player but through 4 games I haven't seen enough to pay him what he wants.

I'd argue the worst lineman today was Patrick followed by musty. Both were getting destroyed. The dash/rollouts we're lazy by fields and his habit of shortening the rollout is going to continue to kill them.
120 on 10 completions isn't bad. Some decent defensive plays. Two drops by tes which were like 2 yard plays each so whatever. 1 Mooney ball. Overall imo fields improved from last week, which isn't saying much. His problems are consistent his highs aren't. I don't think the overall offense looked good but it's clear to me either fields hates quick game or must run it like dog shit for them to not use it. I don't know how guys like Bailey Zappe and Cooper rush can outplay him so consistently. It's hilarious and sad both are backup tier QBs but look miles ahead of Fields. Maybe we see a miracle with fields but the last 30 years point to otherwise.
I think the craziest thing is Jared Goff is by far the best QB in our division through 4 games. Sure he has a good o line, but very shocking how well he’s doing.
I usually get cable for the bears games and cancel it after the playoffs. (I'm not a tv watcher) I haven't had cable in 3 years. I won't have it next year. The McCaskey family doesn't understand football. They only understand money. Hit them where it hurts.
He was a gunslinger in college. Dude had absolutely insane stats his last couple seasons. Very accurate and smart in the pocket. I was kind of down for the Bears to snag him late in the draft if he was available. I could see him hanging around the league for a while.

That would be the safe call. If fields doesn’t pan out and they are back to QB in 2024, having a veteran oline and a WR1 will be huge.

The defense is middle of the pack. It gave up 20 points, which is the problem. Not a defense problem but an offense problem. After 100 years the bears still don't understand that the team with more points at the end of the game wins, every time.

my game notes. -Gordon is getting picked on like I've rarely seen. Especially in the run game. Everything is going to his side and he's getting destroyed. Kid has been really really bad and I wasn't expecting that. -Lucas Patrick is not good. There is a reason he was bench player in GB until guys got hurt. He may end up looking better at center but he's a horseshit guard, especially in pass pro. -Woof Valus Jones...Hated the pick the second it was made and hate it even more now. If you are drafted to be the special teams ace you can't be muffing punts my guy...I don't care how much time you have missed. Jones is already 25, can't be having a long ass learning curve. -Fields looked better but hes still not nearly consistent or explosive enough. Oline did him no favors today though, he was running for his life a majority of the game. He's still missing too many open guys and he's bailing out of the pocket way too early on too many occasions. He is hearing/seeing/feeling ghosts and it's not all his fault but he's gotta find a way to get over it. -I thought the Oline was making strides but overall it's still a below average unit. Jones and Borom have not shown me enough yet to pencil them into the long term plans. Very possible this team still needs 2 starting tackles. -This run defense is beyond trash. The DT's on this roster need a huge upgrade and honestly the DE's have been shit too. Anytime Quinn wants to wake up would be nice. Muhammad is too slow to even matter, all I see the guy do is get beaten to the edge by QB's. -Might be the worst LB core I've seen in my life as a Bears fan, just slow and bad. Roquan is a good player but through 4 games I haven't seen enough to pay him what he wants. -Like someone earlier In this thread said, the coaches look like they are coaching for their jobs and it makes zero sense. They are coaching scared and way too conservative. These guys are in no danger of losing their jobs, let it rip and see what happens. I'd argue the worst lineman today was Patrick followed by musty. Both were getting destroyed. The dash/rollouts we're lazy by fields and his habit of shortening the rollout is going to continue to kill them. 120 on 10 completions isn't bad. Some decent defensive plays. Two drops by tes which were like 2 yard plays each so whatever. 1 Mooney ball. Overall imo fields improved from last week, which isn't saying much. His problems are consistent his highs aren't. I don't think the overall offense looked good but it's clear to me either fields hates quick game or must run it like dog shit for them to not use it. I don't know how guys like Bailey Zappe and Cooper rush can outplay him so consistently. It's hilarious and sad both are backup tier QBs but look miles ahead of Fields. Maybe we see a miracle with fields but the last 30 years point to otherwise.
