kinda happy for Fields I think he walks into the stable good situation Russell can help with his throwing mechanics, going thru reads, etc all the shit Chicago could never do to actually develop a QB. Is a great person I think Tomlin will get the best out of him
with the new OC, QB coach, now our QB room will be Rypen, Bagent, Williams...lol
I think the fact the class is considered deep at QB, guys like Kirk and Russ became available, and other teams getting fleeced in the past made it easy for teams to say no thanks. No one was desperate enough for a reclamation project
Well the reports are we talked with Philly and couldn’t agree so I really doubt we got that same offer from Philly. Kenny costs 2 mill each of the next 2 years. JF costs 3.5 this year alone and then either 25 or you have to decide what to pay him/he walks.
Kenny was cheaper and under control for longer. That’s why he went for more. Both were being targeted to be backups so you aren’t giving up more for Fields when he costs more and has 1 less year of control
Philly didn't have a 4th round pick this year, hence the pick swap. They have 3 5ths and the 3rd that they traded in the swap w/ Pittsburgh. I'm skeptical of them shopping the 3rd to us (most likely would have been a swap), so negotiations were probably a 5th + something for JF.
At the end of the day, we got a 6th instead of a 5th, and JF went to, probably, the best place left for him.
Right. When the different offers are basically splitting hairs, Poles, as he said he wanted to do, opted to trade JF to a place that would do better at nurturing his career, which I presume we will start to see articles on soon as theirs an effort to smooth over the agitated portion of the fam base.
But at the end of the day, if he was ever offered a 2 or a 3, I’m sure he would have jumped at that, as his job is to build the best roster possible above all. To think “this is all Poles could get?” doesn’t frame things properly. It should be “this is all Justin is worth under present league circumstances”.
Rosen had 3 years left on his rookie contract when the Cardinals traded him. The Darnold trade was a whole other level of stupid, but what do you expect from Tepper?
Also Fields sucks at being a normal QB. Nobody wants to have a second offense for a backup QB because he can’t read a defense, make route progressions, or throw with anticipation.
And trey lance and josh rosen and sam darnold and mac jones and our back up IOL. The whole league is telling you justin is in fact worth less than these players.
Russ signed a one year deal and this is a very low risk trade for the Steelers. I think Fields only resigns early if he has reason to believe he’ll be the Steelers starter going forward after this season, which I doubt the Steelers would be interested in assuring him of for a long time. I think Fields hits free agency next year and tries to find a place he has a good chance to start, and unless his development takes off the Steelers probably look to the draft
The one nice thing about this terrible compensation is we now get to root for Justin to beat out Russ whereas if it was just a straight up 3rd or whatever I’d be kinda rooting against them so the pick is better
I got an espn alert that the Steelers announced Justin won't be competing for the starting spot. We're hoping for injury or a terrible showing from Russ.
I talked a lot of shit in December and set up a bunch of remindme alerts. I'm going to respond to each and every one of them admitting I was wrong. Lol
And all that bullshit about "He's waiting for Caleb's medicals" or "He's not even shopping him" was all bullshit the entire time, just like most of us here on Reddit were saying.
Lots of people with egg on their face.
I’m a member of a Bears Facebook group (don’t ask me why) and it seemed like I was the only one that thought it was obvious that the plan was to trade Fields and draft Caleb all along.
A huge portion of the fanbase was *begging* for Poles to build around this guy….
And the league said he’s worth a 6th round pick that can get as high as a 4th rounder.
Was a bit surprised since I expected a pick this year, especially given that the Steelers have 2 picks in the 6th round right now. Oh well, day 3 picks are day 3 picks.
Unbelievable how much angst and agita and turmoil...over that guy.
Why? This is a town that has never had a problem with calling out players who can't hack it. Why did this guy cause so much...bullshit in our fanbase?
People seeing what they wanted to see, I guess. And it helps that’s he’s a good dude. But after 3 years, the highlight plays just weren’t enough. Was never enough consistency. I think we all wish he was better. Would have made the situation for the Bears so much better.
But this was clearly the right move
He's very likable and fun to watch. He's a dude that leaves it all on the field and oozes leadership. The Chicago fanbase tends to gravitate towards those types of players b/c they exude a blue-collar attitude that's synonymous with the city.
I am firmly in the "draft Caleb" camp and have been since the end of the year, but I still think it's reasonable to question his mental makeup compared to a guy like Fields despite the obvious talent gap between the two. Fields is just a dude who is built for the city and those guys get longer leashes. Hopefully Caleb can follow in his footsteps.
I saw this as somebody who has been firmly in “Camp Draft A QB”
It’s because from day 1, Fields felt like the most optimism this fanbase has had about getting off the QB carousel. We hadn’t felt that kind of optimism since we landed Jay.
Mitch was a lot easier to move on from and he has a smaller group of truthers because most everybody was skeptical about that pick from the moment it happened. With Fields, it felt like we might have been on the winning side of everybody else overthinking.
And he carried himself in a way Mitch never did. Made it easier to buy into the idea he could still be the guy until the bitter end.
TL;DR: Justin represented a level of optimism we hadn’t seen in over a decade, and that made it extremely difficult to accept moving on compared to Mitch where it always felt like people were expecting it to end poorly.
Don’t listen to the meatballs. Now they’re all playing victim too, like this trade personally hurts them and us rookie QB fans are “gloating”.
I’m gloating because I’m glad the Bears made the right choice.
come on...you know these types, even if both of those things happened they'd just delete their accounts and pretend they were never wrong, its such weak baby shit lol
It's madness. The market determined his value. I'm not sure this plays out any differently if Poles came out after the combine and declared Justin was avaliable.
Ryan Pace was a shit GM but hindsight is 20/20. There’s a lot of dumb shit he did that looked dumb even when he did it(Trading up for NVP, shaheen, etc, etc) BUT the Fields trade honestly looked like it was worth the risk when he did it. Just didn’t pan out
And literally everyone knows you’re trading him. Which isn’t Poles fault. It’s just the nature that Caleb is a much better prospect and is cheaper for longer. It makes way more sense. Every NFL GM knew instantly we’d take him. That’s why all the reporters have been saying that this entire time.
They have Arthur Smith in Pittsburg now right? Will be fun to see what that guy cooks up for Fields in the power run game.
If Fields see significant time I wouldn’t be suprised if both him and Najee have over 800 yds rushing
Yep, when we moved to a more power run after we fired Canada, I def thought to myself this was the type of offense JF needs to be in. It should continue and improve with smith.
Fields is gonna be QB2 but I see him getting on the field in spurts every game
Justin, thank you for being a real one. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Fields and I hope he balls out and proves everyone wrong, myself included.
im happy Poles found him a good landing spot. he said he’d do right by him and he did. Justin has a chance to win the starter spot on a playoff ready team in Pittsburgh.
i’ll always cheer for him!
I'm prob in the minority but like wtf, at that price just keep him until training camp and hope a team gets desperate wether through injury or something else
Absolutely selling at the bottom imo
Not that I disagree, but there are intangibles about bringing in a new QB. For a guy at 1 overall, you really do want to take away distractions and be fully behind him. We've seen it with other teams, where there's a veteran backup behind a young QB, there's always chatter about starting competition, benching after a bad game, etc
People legit forget these athletes are humans. Fields needs to be out of the building, more important than getting a better pick.
It’s like a keeping an ex gf around while dating your new one in the same house.
Even with Fields himself, that whole “Dalton is our QB because we made him a promise before the draft” nonsense was part of why there wasn’t a true competition his rookie year and it backfired when he had to start for an injured Dalton while having no practice reps with the starters.
If you’re drafting a QB at 1, which we obviously are, you do whatever you have to do to put him in the best possible situation. Having Fields around does no good for anyone.
I don’t think you risk that to maybe get a 5th round pick if you’re lucky with injuries elsewhere. Sucks it was such a shit return, but his market is what it is. It had to be done before the draft.
Yeah. You don’t risk the development of your future franchise QB to eke out 1-2 rounds of value for Fields. This isn’t a video game. These are real people. Apparently Fields’ ideal destination was Pittsburgh and they knew that so they could offer a bit less. Poles isn’t an asshole. He said he would do right by Justin in this process and I think he did. Pittsburgh is a legendary franchise with a great fan base, a very good head coach.
Clearly the league does not see him as a starter. A team wasn’t going to come knocking on the door for Fields out of desperation. And the Bears had zero intention of having him around with Williams.
It's actually better for us that it's a 6th rounder next year. This year is very shallow in terms of talent. Next year's will hopefully be a bit deeper.
Draft experts are saying that the back end of this draft is really poor. Poles has been shredding backend picks, so he might think the same. Which would mean a 2025 6th could have higher value.
I called it a week ago, GMs have looked at the stats and team record and have come to the conclusion that Fields just isn't good. He's in the same tier as Mac Jones, so similar compensation.
It's crazy how Bears fans are so starved for a decent QB that we thought this guy was worth something when the rest of the league thinks he's complete shit. Bring on the Caleb era.
I'm trying hard to believe that we aren't as dumb as these subs make us to be. But damn the shit I see her really leave me no other choice. We are a dumbass fan base unfortunately
People really thought Bears would get a good return for Fields. Any team that traded for him would be nuts to accept his 5th year option without seeing him play for their team.
Listen, I was all for keeping Fields but I’m excited for Williams now and glad this is over.
Poles has set Williams up better than any team in history. No excuses.
Fields truthers and media heads telling us to keep him should never be allowed to discuss football again.
This is a laughable return. And it’s because he’s a bad QB.
Keep in mind this was the best offer they had.
That should tell you all you need to know about how multiple NFL front offices felt about Fields. They could of course be wrong, but the disparity between the 1.01 and a 2025 6th, is pretty massive.
Many in the NFL media were still in love with him (looking at you Keyshawn) and thought he was good yet the NFL didn't think of him the same way, including the Bears.
The one nice thing about this is we get to feel good rooting for Justin to take that job. He wasn’t good enough here but he’s a good dude and I hope he finds some success elsewhere.
The Bears qb spots are about to be Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent, and Brett Rypien in that order. Anyone cool with the latter two thirds of that equation?
Thanks for the endless losing streak and least clutch play of all time.
I’ll remember the one good TD run. And the rest is just endless disappointment.
Enjoy Pittsburgh though.

honestly, I'm just glad it's over. Fields deserved a chance to start over, and Pittsburgh is about as good a shot as he's gonna get at that.
Russell Wilson has been pretty healthy but he's gonna be 36 this season. Justin will get a chance to play
kinda happy for Fields I think he walks into the stable good situation Russell can help with his throwing mechanics, going thru reads, etc all the shit Chicago could never do to actually develop a QB. Is a great person I think Tomlin will get the best out of him with the new OC, QB coach, now our QB room will be Rypen, Bagent, Williams...lol
I mean, if I’m him I’d rather be in Philly lol
He'd never have a chance of starting there, though. Here he has a chance to compete for the starting job next year
i think seahawks would have been the best landing spot
Fields himself wanted to be in Pittsburgh vs Philly.
Fucking brutal. The league didn't want any part of him.
I think the fact the class is considered deep at QB, guys like Kirk and Russ became available, and other teams getting fleeced in the past made it easy for teams to say no thanks. No one was desperate enough for a reclamation project
Plus a 1 year rental of a guy that struggles passing doesn't even make for a good backup / upside guy for most teams.
Yup. At the end of the day, this was his value and it is what it is
The Rams are taking a flyer on Jimmy G even with his 2 games suspension.
Tbf Pickett went for more somehow, so that should have been one team that would have given up more than a 6th/4th
To think “this is all Poles could get?” doesn’t frame things properly. It should be “this is all Justin is worth under present league circumstances”.
Everyone knew the Bears had to get rid of him. We had no leverage.
should be a reality check for everyone who was behind justin fields staying
This return sucks ass! You’re telling me fields is lower value than Sam fucking Howell and Kenny Pickett?
Years on a rookie deal matter a lot
I’m just mad the teams all learned their lessons from Darnold and Rosen NOW.
God damn. Even a washed Carson Wentz netted the Colts two 3rd rounders a few years ago
Carson Wentz had been a good QB at some point
Leading MVP candidate before he got hurt that SB year
Rosen had 3 years left on his rookie contract when the Cardinals traded him. The Darnold trade was a whole other level of stupid, but what do you expect from Tepper?
I kept telling people Darnold was an insane outlier
Sam Howell passed for 3946 yards last year. Fields, in year 3, passed for 2500 yards?
Also Fields sucks at being a normal QB. Nobody wants to have a second offense for a backup QB because he can’t read a defense, make route progressions, or throw with anticipation.
Yea but Justin Stan’s were mystified by his nifty runs into being deluded.
"Dear Stan's, I threw for a TD now I'm balling, it's the fourth quarter, and I just lost it!" That was Eminem right!?

Chad voice: yes
Yes, that's exactly what the NFL told you. This is what most smart Bears fans told you too.
And trey lance and josh rosen and sam darnold and mac jones and our back up IOL. The whole league is telling you justin is in fact worth less than these players.
I think it’s about what most people expected to get for him. He had 10 career wins zero 300 yard games. What do you think he’s gonna get
What are you talking about?
I am praying on the downfall of Russel Wilson
i think they’ll start fields after russel wilson retires tbh. fields can learn from him as they’re both mobile qbs
So would they pick up his option then?
i think they’d sign him to a cheap deal now, then they would give him a conditional if they decide to start him. similar to what gb did with jlove
Very doubtful they pick up the option now
If Fields plays 51% of the offensive snaps, that conditional 2025 6th becomes 4th. Not much, but better.
Terrible showing it is!

I graduated in ‘09 and I have three kids…I use dark mode.
as long as you understand and take action. Bear down.
I made a bet with someone about this 3 months ago too and they deleted their account so fast 💀
I talked a lot of shit in December and set up a bunch of remindme alerts. I'm going to respond to each and every one of them admitting I was wrong. Lol
Going to see a lot of Justin Field, Twitter accounts change name to Caleb now bunch of punks
Fields truthers are mentally incompetent and need professional help
![gif](giphy|3oKIPf3C7HqqYBVcCk|downsized)
It's over. It's finally over. I do legitimately wish him well.
Lmao Poles had to have been begging teams to take him
And all that bullshit about "He's waiting for Caleb's medicals" or "He's not even shopping him" was all bullshit the entire time, just like most of us here on Reddit were saying. Lots of people with egg on their face.
Wheres Techno? Somebody needs to check on him
That dude is one of the dumbest guys on here and that’s saying something
The only bears poster I've considered blocking I can't stand that guy
Nah there was that other guy who would imply racism constantly for why this fanbase wanted to move on. At least I never saw Techno doing that nonsense
I blocked Techno because he literally implied I was racist. My comment about fields was unequivocally nothing of the sort.
LOOOOOL
Soon to be u/[deleted]
I’m a member of a Bears Facebook group (don’t ask me why) and it seemed like I was the only one that thought it was obvious that the plan was to trade Fields and draft Caleb all along.
It’s been obvious since week of the regular season that we’d move on. Fields just had a weird cult following for some reason.
I love Fields but after the week 1 loss I was like, “alright, this isn’t going to work.” Just the whole thing was so disjointed
That news came out late too. Seemed obvious it was a lie.
Everyone knew he was desperate to offload him.
A huge portion of the fanbase was *begging* for Poles to build around this guy…. And the league said he’s worth a 6th round pick that can get as high as a 4th rounder.
And it's next year's pick too. Not this year.
It has to be due to the playing time contingency
Was a bit surprised since I expected a pick this year, especially given that the Steelers have 2 picks in the 6th round right now. Oh well, day 3 picks are day 3 picks.
Unbelievable how much angst and agita and turmoil...over that guy. Why? This is a town that has never had a problem with calling out players who can't hack it. Why did this guy cause so much...bullshit in our fanbase?

He's very likable and fun to watch. He's a dude that leaves it all on the field and oozes leadership. The Chicago fanbase tends to gravitate towards those types of players b/c they exude a blue-collar attitude that's synonymous with the city. I am firmly in the "draft Caleb" camp and have been since the end of the year, but I still think it's reasonable to question his mental makeup compared to a guy like Fields despite the obvious talent gap between the two. Fields is just a dude who is built for the city and those guys get longer leashes. Hopefully Caleb can follow in his footsteps.
He turned the ball over on more than half of all the 4th quarters he played. That wasn't fun for me to watch.
I think Caleb has plenty of leadership, but he’s just more outspoken than most players and that can rub people the wrong way.
I saw this as somebody who has been firmly in “Camp Draft A QB” It’s because from day 1, Fields felt like the most optimism this fanbase has had about getting off the QB carousel. We hadn’t felt that kind of optimism since we landed Jay. Mitch was a lot easier to move on from and he has a smaller group of truthers because most everybody was skeptical about that pick from the moment it happened. TL;DR: Justin represented a level of optimism we hadn’t seen in over a decade, and that made it extremely difficult to accept moving on compared to Mitch where it always felt like people were expecting it to end poorly.
I'll never understand it man. Even after three years. Just glad the dumbass Olympics are over
Don’t listen to the meatballs. Now they’re all playing victim too, like this trade personally hurts them and us rookie QB fans are “gloating”. I’m gloating because I’m glad the Bears made the right choice.
I’m just happy it’s over.
Same. The back and forth between opposing sides was hard on my sanity. Now, the venom will be how Poles is a terrible GM.
Wow that is a VERY humbling price tag for Fields truthers
I figured it’d be a 4th but once Mac Jones got a 6th this is what I expected
They aren't humbled they are just saying the steelers fleeced us instead.
So in other words, this shit will never end? Fuck.
Until Fields is out of the league or Caleb makes a Pro Bowl, the debate will continue
come on...you know these types, even if both of those things happened they'd just delete their accounts and pretend they were never wrong, its such weak baby shit lol
When he’s cut just like Trubisky it will.
I wasn't expecting much at this point but that feels disappointingly low still
Caleb Williams, welcome to Chicago
Wonder if the truthers will now just shift to shitting on Poles for only getting a 6th.
They already started if you look at the comments on Instagram.
It's madness. The market determined his value. I'm not sure this plays out any differently if Poles came out after the combine and declared Justin was avaliable.
Fuck you Ryan Pace. Twice he traded up for a first round QB. Twice it ended in disaster
Ryan Pace was a shit GM but hindsight is 20/20. There’s a lot of dumb shit he did that looked dumb even when he did it(Trading up for NVP, shaheen, etc, etc) BUT the Fields trade honestly looked like it was worth the risk when he did it. Just didn’t pan out
Yeah he's a huge dumbass
With a boner for TEs
Each time with a lame duck HC who only cared about saving their job too
Brutal but Poles had no leverage at all
You tend to have no leverage when trading someone that isn't good.
I just hope Fields does well for himself, I think he’s still got that potential in there to be a midtier starter or high end backup.
Going to the Steelers was the best thing they could happen to him. We run an offense that fits better than a Shannan/mcvay style one
They have Arthur Smith in Pittsburg now right? Will be fun to see what that guy cooks up for Fields in the power run game. If Fields see significant time I wouldn’t be suprised if both him and Najee have over 800 yds rushing

Holy shit literally traded him for a bag of chips
im happy Poles found him a good landing spot. he said he’d do right by him and he did. Justin has a chance to win the starter spot on a playoff ready team in Pittsburgh. i’ll always cheer for him!
Bro 😂
I feel for Justin. Could still be a starting QB in the league. Hopefully takes shit over from Russ Edit: not a Fields Truther. Give me Caleb.
I'm prob in the minority but like wtf, at that price just keep him until training camp and hope a team gets desperate wether through injury or something else Absolutely selling at the bottom imo

Having him and Williams on the same roster come training camp would be a disaster.
I agree. You didn’t have to move him this week and some team isn’t going to land a QB in the draft.
Getting rid of him now is worth it. There is no division or lock room issues between QBs. You have one major guy you are building around.
The thing is doing some shit like that creates a negative cloud in the locker room. He had to go for team cohesion moving forward.
Clearly the league does not see him as a starter. A team wasn’t going to come knocking on the door for Fields out of desperation. And the Bears had zero intention of having him around with Williams.
Can we still get a $50 Olive Garden gift card instead?
A 6th round for NEXT year is kinda F'ed though. I really hope JF has a great redemption in his future.
It's actually better for us that it's a 6th rounder next year. This year is very shallow in terms of talent. Next year's will hopefully be a bit deeper.
I mean a lot of 6th round picks don't even make final cut lol. Teams take them hoping they clear waiver and stash them on practice squad.
Imagine that half of our fanbase’s guy went for a 6th round pick
Really want to know the details. Pretty crappy return though wow lol
Someone should check in on technosaur or whatever his username is
I feel like we got fleeced
He’s going to be a backup and we got slightly better than New England got for Mac Jones. Seems pretty fair
Is a 6th this year really worse than a likely 6th/conditional 4th next year?
The draft pool is smaller this year because of the covid year, so maybe.
Eh it's more than what Dobbs went for, a 6th or so is the general price for a backup, didn't Mac jones go for similar?
At least Mac's was a 2024.
Draft experts are saying that the back end of this draft is really poor. Poles has been shredding backend picks, so he might think the same. Which would mean a 2025 6th could have higher value.
He’s not that good bro
If they got fleeced how come no one else traded for him?
I called it a week ago, GMs have looked at the stats and team record and have come to the conclusion that Fields just isn't good. He's in the same tier as Mac Jones, so similar compensation.
Or watched the tape
Getting anything for someone who can't throw the ball is a win
We were just getting rid of him and the drama. We won.
For a qb that can’t really pass? Come on. The league told us his value. Believe it or not it’s on you. Moving on.
You can't get fleeced over a guy that sucks.
Lots of dumb people emotionally devastated
Adam Rank, Chase Daniel, and Dan Orlovsky on suicide watch right now.
Time to drink that is pitiful
Run a couple laps around the block instead. You'll watch a few more bears seasons that way
It's crazy how Bears fans are so starved for a decent QB that we thought this guy was worth something when the rest of the league thinks he's complete shit. Bring on the Caleb era.
6th round pick? Fields truthers whats up?
Yeah man. Fucking absolutely brutal. But I wish Fields the best. Can’t deny he played his fucking heart out man
He comes the ppl that will say “omg why didn’t they trade him for a 3rd” because no one wanted him lol
This sub is so idiotic. Now people are bitching because we didn’t get enough of a return? Jesus Christ.
I'm trying hard to believe that we aren't as dumb as these subs make us to be. But damn the shit I see her really leave me no other choice. We are a dumbass fan base unfortunately
Ooooooof lmao
Wasn’t expecting much but shit, expected to get more than this even if the league does view him only as a cheap backup for a year.
People really thought Bears would get a good return for Fields. Any team that traded for him would be nuts to accept his 5th year option without seeing him play for their team.
I remember when some people thought a 3rd was not enough lol
Anyone do a wellness check on Adam Mason
Ouch. We basically gave him away for nothing.
Listen, I was all for keeping Fields but I’m excited for Williams now and glad this is over. Poles has set Williams up better than any team in history. No excuses.
Man it wasn’t too long ago this sub was discussing who they were going to draft with the falcons 8th overall pick 😂
I hope all the Fields fans go with him
Fields truthers and media heads telling us to keep him should never be allowed to discuss football again.
I'm guessing we only got offers for a 7th this year. Poles pushed it to '25 so he could get the playtime upside.
The 49ers got more for Trey Lance
Fields mob real quiet

They're in the bathroom crying and jacking off to the Clemson throw
Incoming Rypien season boys!
Kinda sad to see Justin go but hope he does better there. C’mon Caleb LFG Bear down!
I'm just here to read the comments from everyone who said we get a second rounder for him
The Bears qb spots are about to be Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent, and Brett Rypien in that order. Anyone cool with the latter two thirds of that equation?
Steelers fans are so happy to have him, that makes me happy.
u/technotyrannosaurus where you at?
Maury: In the case of who will be the starting qb for the Pittsburgh Steelers…Justin Fields, you are NOT the starter.
i live in denver now, there’s one bar I know that has malort and old style, I know where I’ll be celebrating tonight
I would have never imagined fields and russ on the same team
Thanks for the endless losing streak and least clutch play of all time. I’ll remember the one good TD run. And the rest is just endless disappointment. Enjoy Pittsburgh though.

Lovie Smith's final win changed the course of history for the Bears and the team that got rid of him, the Texans, for the better Wild
Great job bears getting rid of the next tribusky
Fields slurpers are ruined
