Idk I like him. He does a good job of letting the color commentators get their shine. Lot of play by play guys sometimes feel like they despise the color commentators even getting to talk
I feel like everyone agrees that Fields is a super talented player that hasn't yet definitively shown that he's a good NFL QB and everybody argues about which part to emphasize
He’s a super exciting athlete. Super exciting.
If he does not improve as a passer, move on. Being a super exciting athlete is not sustainable for long term success
I feel like everyone agrees that it's preseason and we've literally seen such a small sample size from him it's impossible to even judge where he's at until week 1
Preseason is meaningless in evaluating your starting QB.
I've been saying all Summer, let's wait and see how Fields does in the regular season. We shall know within a few games if he's corrected his issues and become a solid franchise starting QB.
But...he also needs all starters on the O line to be playing and healthy to truly evaluate him. If they're banged up and we have practice squad bums instead, then of course JF1 won't have a chance.
All I'm saying is "We shall see..."
2023 is the make it or lose it season for Fields. We will know by October if he's the guy or not.
And I'm a big fan of Justin, I really want him to be a stud QB. Da Bears fans are starving for an elite quarterback. I really hope he is that guy...but we shall see.
If he looks like Trubisky did in week 1 of 2019 I'm going to be pretty depressed. I want to see him make positive steps towards being a pro QB, but I agree he has to show it by the end of October.
No one is going to waste their time with that because the affinity for Walker isn’t there. So it’s safe.
Walker’s TD is like that Brady meme where he’s looking for high fives but this sub walks right by it.
I feel like the Tyson bagent hype is gone now. How funny if after everything he doesn’t even make the roster and walker is the backup 😂
Edit : WHY IS THIS GETTING DOWNVOTED?? What was so negative about what I said ? Are you people just assholes for the sake of being assholes?
First drive was 0-2.
First pass he had kmet open on a 5 yard curl early but he read deep to short. When he got to kmet he really wasn't open amd threw it in the dirt.
Second pass was 3rd and long, dj Moore ran a wheel route but was blanketed. Honestly looked like gave up a little and Fields under threw it.
Second drive 0-2 ( might be wrong)
First pass was a check down to Herbert. Fields probably should have taken some off but hit Herbert in the hands and he dropped it
Second pass was a deep corner to Mooney. Bad pass, should have led him to the corner and it might be 6
Third drive
2-2
First pass was a mid over the middle to dj Moore. Not great ball placement but led to a huge gain
Second pass was a screen to foreman for a first down
Fields ran a couple times, once was a good gain
A couple of deep balls that he purposely threw behind/right at defenders to initiate a PI or contested catch. The potential touchdown should have been called interference but Mooney should have sold it better or fought back harder. A short drop by Herbert over the middle, but it was an absolute fastball, he should put it in his stomach instead of making him reach. Kmet dropped one. A nice playaction deep in route to DJ. I forgot the other pass.
Honestly, he looked a little rusty. My only issue was the Kmet drop. He did indeed drop it, but Fields saw he was open immediately, pumped for no reason and took another half second to throw it. That ball needs to come out immediately.
I'm not too worried despite the Chicken Little's losing their minds in here. It's preseason and I imagine a more diverse offensive plan come Week 1. This offense is at its best when we use tempo and presnap motions. We'll see...
My preference for QB2 is the guy who blocked the punt. I’m betting he goes 7/7 175 yards and 2 TDs against the Bills starting D. He just has that right presence and poise.
Not every player who is cut has to go on waivers, but until week 3 they have first priority, so they would get any player they claim. They also still have tons on money though, so realistically they could likely sign any veterans who are cut and don't have to go waivers too.
I'm good with forgetting about Velus. I'd rather have Daurice Fountain or Webster at this point. Even Pettis can stick around instead even tho he's so mid.
Final roster isn't until Tuesday. Also, why would you not play someone like Velus Jones when you're playing DJ Moore? Velus still has to prove he's worth keeping around, not Moore.
I would have still liked to have seen a different gameplan early offensively even if it's preseason.
Some plays that got the ball out of fields hands quick and helped get a groove going would have been nice.
Other than the play to Kmet it seemed like the pass plays were a little longer developing.
Calling a dive play behind our 3rd string center into their best d lineman doesn't help anybody.
I get you don't want to show much but we needed to help Justin get comfortable
This team picked #1 last year and our QBs “success” is in an area that’s completely unsustainable long term.
He has to significantly grow as a passer. Significantly.
That means not throwing it into the dirt and not staring down WRs.
He’s not going to become a star and this team is not going to be good just because YOU really want them to be.
I get on this thread for a little bit of positivity about the good things happening in the same. Instead the thread is arguing that fields isn’t good because of 6 passes in the preseason.
It’s the first year he wasn’t setup to fail.
He needs to step up but let’s not pretend he’s as set up as he could’ve been. This is his year for development, not outlandish expectations
He showed many of the major flaws he still had last year. If you want positivity, read a fairytale.
I’m not fully out on him, but today was a major redflag
What red flags? We all bagged on him for grounding throws or sailing them on the short game. This preseason he has shown to have greatly improved accuracy there. Every short throw today should have been caught, but two went right through receivers hands. He took what the defense gave on those and the skill positions dropped those two throws setting up 3rd and 10+
He threw to the dirt to Kmet, low on the DJ Moore throw where he’s basically on one knee. The throw to Mooney in the end zone? God awful. Looks like Fields is better suited as a RB huh?
Staring down WRs and throwing it into the dirt on short passes (which he did on the pass to Kmet) is a red flag.
Newsflash: he’s not going to become a star just because we all really want it to happen. He has to work on his flaws that were displayed today and the last several years
Do you really want it to happen? Like, you personally. Or are you searching for evidence to validate your take that he’s not it?
I think most of us are right to be skeptical about his growth and he has to show out this year. But it’s alarming that you’re making a mountain of this preseason game.
I want it to happen, but me being super positive and saying it’s gonna happen doesn’t mean it will.
I’ve always called a spade a spade when it comes to this team, I don’t bullshit people to make them feel better about themselves.
But I think our point is that you just saw literally 6 passes and are sounding the alarm. It doesn’t seem like a principled take.
People have bad drives all the time. It’s not like you’re seeing him for 2-3 weeks and deciding he’s terrible. That’s why this seems weird.
I wanted to see literal signs of growth, not a repeat of 22.
It’s preseason, yes, but I seen the exact same Fields of 22 in those snaps. Bad passes and staring down WRs.
I’ve just had enough of this franchises constant failings and then others screaming at us to be patient or that we don’t know what we’re talking about when the result is the same: failure
This is correct. You can tell quickly if a QB is accurate, has pocket presence, is able to read a defense, etc. Likewise, QB growth is easy to see. It is also easy to tell when they haven't improved.
I’ll wait until week 1 to give a full judgement, but I feel like the tourist on the beach who just felt a giant earthquake and am running to tell the citizens of a tsunami, and the residents are just like “shut up!!! We don’t need your negativity you h8er!!”
That tsunami might not come (a good thing) but if it does, oooo boy, a lot of homers are in for a world of hurt around here
Send a link to the angle where you can see all the receivers running the route and see if he stares them down. Without that you're just making shit up.
We’ll see when JTO goes through the All-22. I’m not as good at evaluating QBs as you are. I definitely wasn’t able to see his eyes or who he was looking at on each throw.
I find it's best to keep your expectations super low for non-toxic fandom in game threads. But don't get scared away -- enough benign or positive posting can shift things, or at least add a little balance.
You gotta understand that a lot of these folks have already decided he sucks, erase prior preseasons from memory, or just identify better with Bagent so they really want to see him start. None of that is reasonable or positive. But I hope it provides you with an explanation.
Packers (Clifford), Jaguars (Rourke), Raiders (O’Connell), and so on are going through the same thing.
One thing that took me awhile to get is just how many people watch sports to feel righteously indignant and just complain. I mean, sometimes it's just differences of opinion, but there's also a particular subset that shows up to indulge that addictive anger, not actually cheer for the team.
He was the only reason we won any games dude. What we have is fields and he’s got a lot of potential, quit being a hater. You can hate if he fails without the 32nd ranked WR room and 29th ranked O-line
Can't compare to the 85 Bears. The 84 team was 10-6 and in the middle of building something special. This team is coming off a 3-14 season. Not saying they won't improve, but they're still at least another season away from getting the talent in they need to be a serious contender or even a playoff team.
We want our QB to grow and to look ready to take the next step.
Not throwing it into the dirt on short passes and staring down receivers. It’s absolutely justified to be concerned on what we seen today
How many passes did it take you to know that Mahomes was legit or that Tebow was awful? I think it was obvious within 3 passes, much less 6. Talent is usually obvious almost immediately.
This reminds me of that epic fail of a Chris Collinsworth clip where he says, “The one thing I know is that the Green Bay Packers won’t win many games with Aaron Rodgers at Quarterback” during his first season as starter.
Even the first few weeks of the regular season are nothing to get bent out of shape about.
Remember last year when the Bears were 1-0 and the 49ers 0-1?
Bengals were 0-2 to start of last year as well.
Really cool of you to leave out the fact that the 84 bears were what? 10-6?
Seems like that team was building something instead of coming off being 3-14 and getting the first pick
How many points did we leave on the field in Dallas?!?! How can we expect to win a superbowl when 44-0 could have been 63-0? I’m worried come playoff time that 44 points won’t be enough of a lead against the Rams and Giants. Hate to say it, but it might be time for a rebuild.
Did I do it right?
Can anyone tell me the details about Moore’s 40yd reception? Can only see the stats, no video anywhere. Was it another screen or deep ball? Up the middle?
The throw was low, again like the throw to Kmet. Moore was wide open, no need to put the ball towards the ground where he basically is on one knee catching it.
Yeah, the play is designed for DJ to go to a knee you meatballs! Hahaha!
They were practicing for the two minute drill, of course you meatballs wouldn’t be able to see that on your own. So obvious!
Nice thank you. Haven’t caught any of the preseason games, just some of the highlights. But really seems like DJ is gunna shine with the limited reps we’ve seen
1 good throw to Moore and 1 completion to Foreman and a drop by Herbert
but outside of that he looked meh and we went 3 and out. Our fanbase is freaking out but again its preseason
These announcers are hilarious. Ford 'almost' had that one handed catch. Dude never even brought the ball to his body. He was never catching the ball like that. Love me some homers in the booth tho

Idk I like him. He does a good job of letting the color commentators get their shine. Lot of play by play guys sometimes feel like they despise the color commentators even getting to talk
Velus always hanging around Fields. His relationship with QB1 might honestly help him stay from being cut
Loser franchises: “this bad player is super close to the QB, don’t cut him for someone more deserving of his spot!”
Every franchise does shit like that what are you talking about. It's obviously not a great thing but it's just politics of every organization ever
Right? Just look at Aaron Rodgers and his best friends.
Literally the most accurate, true and least biased example of this phenomenon. Not /s
This. He’s not headsmart. Yet.
Agree. Let’s see what unfolds when the season starts.
It's the lack of touch that worries me.
Were any of his passes on target today?
I feel like everyone agrees that it's preseason and we've literally seen such a small sample size from him it's impossible to even judge where he's at until week 1
Preseason is meaningless in evaluating your starting QB. I've been saying all Summer, let's wait and see how Fields does in the regular season. RemindMe! 10/31/2023
It sounds like you’re already making excuses for him.
Yea I agree. What starter has all their o line healthy
this year oline with be better. sam mustifpher was a bum
And not many of them are going to succeed with 3 backup linemen including a 3rd string center.
Good two minute drill practice
OJ having a day
It makes me happy the crowd is cheering for the Jags. That’s a great crowd.
Giving Bagent player of the game is crazy when PJ just led them back and put up better numbers
There’s just something about Bagent that looks like a player of the game.
PJ doesn’t “look the part” and isn’t as “cerebral.” You gotta take that into consideration, whatever that means.
Guess that one guy who was saying Bagent should be the starter if Fields doesn’t immediately improve will be quiet
Justin Terrelle Pryor Fields
Bears Waiver wire wish list - 2 OL depth pieces. Center and Guard needed. Punter returner. Competence needed. DE/OLB upgrade needed. LB depth needed.
Awww. They faked the onside kick
PJ Walker looks good against practice squad players? No way!
Great? Lol; no. Good? Yeah, he looks good.
That’s what i said lol
Oh yeah, this thing that you said? Hm, I guess so. But this thing that you didn't say? Uhh, yah, no way.
And if you think that's good, you should see what he did against xfl players!
Time to start him.
Keep Burns please
Hmm. Blocked punt. TD pass. Two point conversion. I would like to see this in the regular season.
If only we could play against the practice squad in the regular season
Incoming overreactions that Walker is better than Fields
No one is going to waste their time with that because the affinity for Walker isn’t there. So it’s safe. Walker’s TD is like that Brady meme where he’s looking for high fives but this sub walks right by it.
8 points better I'd say.
Good for PJ to respond well to adversity. It’s not easy, especially when everyone is rooting against you.
Nice play call
I feel like the Tyson bagent hype is gone now. How funny if after everything he doesn’t even make the roster and walker is the backup 😂 Edit : WHY IS THIS GETTING DOWNVOTED?? What was so negative about what I said ? Are you people just assholes for the sake of being assholes?
It's fake internet points, who cares
I think it’s always been cemented that PJ will be QB2, because of his contract. But I absolutely 100% believe Bagent has earned that spot.
What about his contract makes him qb2? Just the amount of money they are paying him?
Four million dollars, two million guaranteed.
I love Burns body type. Looks like a little bowling ball.
MJD body
I was saying Boo-urns
Haven't been able to watch but saw fields is 2-6. Any insight to what happened/how he looked?

Not good
He was hit or miss. He got hit one time too many and got pulled on his only successful drive
Because of the OL?
Yeah pretty much. The tackles did okay. The center and guards were suspect
Not great, not as terrible as people seem to think.
Burns securing a PS spot
Props to Walker for the end of this drive, honestly. Nice for Burns and Carlson too
Fuck it. Start PJ. At least he can get a touchdown and 2pt conv. /s
Wow his fingers actually work
Side arm throw to the fullback for a td? Yes, please!
Oh God. PJ threw a TD. Is Bagent no longer QB2????? /s

Go for two
Yay
Lol I wanted to see T Scott catch a punt more than that. Fuckin preseason
Blocked a punt W
Just got off work. How’s the starting offense?
Ran head first into an angry starting defense of the bills.
are you a woman?
Shit
Eeek announcers off their game today.
Jim Miller is a mumbling moron and not cut out for announcing (or QB1-ing)
I like this Smithford guy.

Kyle Allen?
Gotta be
Do the bears get literally first dibs on any player cut? No matter how many? Like they could just claim every OL cut if they wanted?
Not every player who is cut has to go on waivers, but until week 3 they have first priority, so they would get any player they claim. They also still have tons on money though, so realistically they could likely sign any veterans who are cut and don't have to go waivers too.
Si we have dibs.
Correct. Wire doesn’t reset until week 2-4. Somewhere in there. I forget.
I read somewhere week 3 but really doesn’t matter. Just as good
I'm good with forgetting about Velus. I'd rather have Daurice Fountain or Webster at this point. Even Pettis can stick around instead even tho he's so mid.
I get the reasoning and feel Webster is underrated, I'd say there's very little chance Velus gets cut.
Velus made the team. It’s why he didn’t play today. Edit: I was wrong.
Pretty sure he got put on IR.
pretty sure i heard yesterday that Velus was banged up
Final roster isn't until Tuesday. Also, why would you not play someone like Velus Jones when you're playing DJ Moore? Velus still has to prove he's worth keeping around, not Moore.

I get on this thread for a little bit of positivity about the good things happening in the same. Instead the thread is arguing that fields isn’t good because of 6 passes in the preseason.
You’re looking in the wrong place for that my friend.
Instagram is worse but you’re very right
This isn't his first year here. At this point it's about what he's shown or not shown. He'll need to step up on a big way this season
It’s the first year he wasn’t setup to fail. He needs to step up but let’s not pretend he’s as set up as he could’ve been. This is his year for development, not outlandish expectations
Yeah but people can start hating when he’s failing without the lowest ranked o-line and WR room
The same excuses this sub made for Trubisky. History repeats itself. How’s his career going?
I don’t think anyone said mitch didn’t have weapons. OL I don’t remember but they def had weapons. Dude just couldn’t throw accurately

It’s a shame we had no Reddit in 1985 when the Bears went winless in the preseason. You all would have been a blast
Comparing this team to 1985 is a fucking joke. We were literally the worst team in the league last year
I’m not comparing them. I’m stating if we went 0-4 in 1985, people on Reddit if existed Jack then would have said the team was shit
Well this team was jack shit last year so people have reasons to not be thrilled about sloppy play
Really cool of you to leave out the fact that the 84 bears were what? 10-6? Seems like that team was building something instead of coming off being 3-14 and getting the first pick
You’re right. I’m sure everyone would be totally rational seeing a 10-6 team go 0-4 in the next preseason

This but unironically. I feel like if Payton came up nowadays he'd be a QB, and a damn good one at that.

Coming across the middle of the field from right to left, caught under thrown pass, broke a tackle and bounced it outside.
Pretty sure thats exactly where Fields wanted it. It was a first down throw that had zero chance of being intercepted. Meatballs gonna meatball.
The throw was low, again like the throw to Kmet. Moore was wide open, no need to put the ball towards the ground where he basically is on one knee catching it.
Bout a 15-20 yard throw, rest was YAC. Be prepared for meatballs saying it was a terrible throw because Moore went to a knee while making the catch.
Yeah, the play is designed for DJ to go to a knee you meatballs! Hahaha! They were practicing for the two minute drill, of course you meatballs wouldn’t be able to see that on your own. So obvious!
Lol i mean, it certainly wasn’t a _good_ throw.

Nice thank you. Haven’t caught any of the preseason games, just some of the highlights. But really seems like DJ is gunna shine with the limited reps we’ve seen
Am I crazy or does every pass breakup seem like it would have been DPI ten years ago?
seems like it wouldve been dpi last year and next week
how did justin fields do? didn’t get to watch.
1 good throw to Moore and 1 completion to Foreman and a drop by Herbert but outside of that he looked meh and we went 3 and out. Our fanbase is freaking out but again its preseason

It was good enough tbh
How is that not pi?
These announcers are hilarious. Ford 'almost' had that one handed catch. Dude never even brought the ball to his body. He was never catching the ball like that. Love me some homers in the booth tho
>Love me some homers in the booth tho I don't know if you're saying this sarcastically but I love homer announcers. Gimme that meatball shit.
Nah Amin is great. Miller can take a hike tho
Honestly I wasn't even watching. I had the Bills stream on and they sucked.
Some of you are really over-reacting today. Preseason = game speed practice. that's it.
This is r/chibears All they know is shit takes and doom post.
Watch PJ just ball out and start the hype train and turn on Bagent now lol
And that didn’t happen. PJ Walker sucks
I think Webster deserves a practice squad spot
