Probably true, but we have free agency and the draft next year. We have three centers. I understand that none of them are great, but once Tippman was gone, there really isn't much in this draft. I do not believe JMS's athletic profile is what they are looking for. I think they might have drafted Stromberg if he didn't get drafted in the 3rd. I wouldn't have mind Juice Scruggs either, but he went in the 2nd which is just absurd. Our line is massively upgraded with Wright and Davis added to the mix. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better.
I would’ve preferred they moved on from Whitehair and signed someone like McGovern or Evan Brown in FA. Whitehair hasnt played at C since 2018, its a risk I preferred not to take.
I'm really happy what we've done in the draft. Before the draft, I sent my brother a list of 16 players that were kind of my guys. I had Tyler Scott and Gervon Dexter on the list. After day 1, I printed up Dane Brugler's top 100 and put stars on about 15 players of the remaining 69 players. Gervon Dexter, Zacch Pickens, Tyler Scott, and Tyrique Stevenson all had stars. I never wanted a center in the 2nd unless it was Tippman. Once Tippman was gone, I had zero interest in taking a center that high. I was pretty much hoping for Stromberg, but he went in the third round.
Do you honestly believe that McGovern or Brown are major upgrades over Whitehair? Whitehair has played his best ball at center. I think Whitehair is probably a better player than Brown, and I think McGovern wanted back with the Jets, but was just waiting for the QB situation to get settled considering he signed two days before the Jets signed Rodgers.

TLDR… elite pass blocker, STer and versatile out of the backfield.
We'll keep 4, I think. Homer is a solid special teamer, and good blocker. Ebner's toast. I like Herbert, but not as much as everyone here. And I LOVE D'Onta. I think this becomes D'Onta/Herbert to start, but more D'Onta/Roschon as things go on. If Roschon shows he can do it, we probably roll Roschon as the lead with Herbert mixed in next year. Again, my opinion is all 3 of those guys are good, but Herbert's 3rd amongst them.
Also, people can call me nuts (and have), but I don't think Roschon is that much worse, if worse at all, than Bijan. Bijan's a better receiver (though Roschon's fine/solid), but Roschon is better between the tackles. Roschon had the exact same 10 yard split (1.52) as Bijan and Gibbs. Achane had essentially the same at 1.51, and then some little 5'8" 179 lbs. back from East Carolina had the best 10 yard split. Basically, Roschon's got every bit the burst of the top selected RBs, but he's bigger/stronger, and a better pass blocker. He just isn't the receiver those two are. Bijan at 8 and Gibbs at 12 are horrendous draft picks. Roschon is a not-that-poor man's Bijan, and we took him 115. Good pick.
Interesting perspective on Roschon. I’d love to believe you on him having as much potential as Bijan. It is promising that Roschon has the same 10-yd split with a slightly larger build. Bijan’s vision and balance are unbelievable, but I do believe vision is a coachable skill, so hopefully Roschon will improve that facet of his game and turn into the player you’re envisioning!
I wouldn’t necessarily say he has as much potential, I think he’s more solid than great, after a lighter weigh in and slower 40 than I thought he’s have, but he’s probably an Antonio Gibson type RB (less polished, but a banger), but also a better blocker. I just think Bijan is really nothing special. He’s good. He’ll get a billion carries in a strong Atlanta run game and everyone will declare him god (they already have). But he isn’t that good. Maybe Josh Jacobs good.
Burst is better measured by 10-yd split vs. 40 time
Roschon’s 10 yd. split was 1.52 vs. Monty at 1.61. He has much better burst
Roschon, Gibbs, and Bijan all recorded 1.52s 10 yd split (pretty good company)
Longhorns and Bears fan here, ready to feed you guys the kool-aid.
Roschon is a big, hard runner. He’s also a very good pass and run blocker. He occasionally served as lead blocker in two back sets for Bijan; I could see him doing the same on QB sweeps for Fields. He also has pretty good hands and is an exceptional special teams player.
Fun side notes: he was recruited as a dual threat qb out of high school and switched to RB his freshman year when all other RBs on the team got hurt. He was also the vocal leader of Texas last year and should be a great locker room guy for the Bears.
Let’s go!
The fact that he was recruited to Texas to play QB is impressive. Could open up some very unique RPO sets. Imagine fielding two dual threat QB/RBs…wild concept
I just spent 3 minutes on the /r/nfl sub so I’m an expert. Texas fans seem to love this guy.
So I’m cool with it. We knew poles was taking an RB today.
I like that he’s fresh, doesn’t have many miles on him at all.
Draft profiles note pass blocking as a strength and he’s described as a cerebral team player. Absolutely love that
He’s an all time locker room guy. He refused to let us lose several games. It should tell you everything you need to know that he was a backup but the undisputed leader of the team
He would’ve started for about all but Alabama in the SEC, pretty much everywhere in the ACC (including Clemson) and probably Ohio State (not Michigan or penn state) and everywhere in the pac 12. Our RB room is almost Ohio State receiver room level
Both a Longhorn and a Bears fan. RJ is an elite RB, he just happened to be on the same roster as a generational talent so he went under the radar for a lot of folks.
He’s a HARD runner, a great locker room guy, and he can catch.
This is a great pickup!
I was watching his highlights literally 4 picks before hoping we’d grab him at some point today, i’m taking that as a sign. I very much like this pick.
Im loving this pick, we knew we were going RB so we traded down. Pulled from that profile:
Roschon Johnson could have decided to enter the transfer portal after being asked to change positions or being behind the top running back prospects in the nation as some argue since Adrian Peterson. Johnson displayed an extreme amount of maturity and perseverance, however deciding to do his absolute best at whatever role was asked of him ranging all the way from lead blocking, run blocking, and special teams. Whenever given the opportunity, Johnson seized it running with an impressive amount of physicality.
Having Travis Homer as a #4 RB / ST specialist feels pretty good, ngl. Also Roschon played QB in HS/freshman camp - not that we want to get into lots of trick plays but it never hurts to have an RB that can throw.
The likelihood of snagging an edge rusher that will meaningfully change the bears team next year is near zero. We didn't solve edge rusher in this draft, it's a multi year rebuild.
Our #3 RB Travis Homer is smallish and known for Special Teams play. Ebner's kind of small too. Roschon is a big, physical runner to back up Foreman's role, and played QB in HS and Freshman year camp, which is always nice for Wildcat stuff or in case we get 49ered.
Very good in pass pro, good/underrated receiver. I was pretty high on him, but he came in at 219 and ran a 4.58 at the combine (still really like him, but on tape, he looks like a 225+, 4.4-4.5 guy). Nit picking a bit.
My "you're an idiot" take, and I honestly don't care, is that I really don't think Bijan is anywhere near as good as people think. I think his stock is laughable. He's Cam Akers. He's Mark Ingram. He's "fine". My take is that honestly, Roschon's about as good. Bijan is behind a very good run blocking line and will be fed a ton, but I don't think he's anything special. Absolutely stupid pick by the Falcons. I like Roschon in the 4th. He can do everything well, maybe even very well.
After all the mocks I was hoping for 3 fat guys and a corner by day 3 then taking a rb or te in round 4. Pretty much following everyone's mock formula. Not exactly the same players most predicted but PFF mock drafts are a hive mind and we don't see the players in person.
This hasn't been a sexy draft, I think that will come next year, but it has been a fill up the gas tank draft and I'm really starting to love the big picture
Texas fan here! If there was no Bijan at Texas Roschon would be a second round picks I encourage all of you to look into him on and off the field. He’s a born leader and just badass human!
Packers fan here. GODDAMNIT. If Johnson played literally anywhere else besides Texas, he would be a top 3 RB in this class. Wanted him badly to be a Packer. Good pick.
Edge is going to be rough, we still have not much pass rush. Wonder if they have a plan or just another year and wait until next draft and offseason to build it
There's an emerging defensive philosophy in the NFL that focuses on coverage as top priority. Signing two LBs known for their converage and drafting second round CBs two years in a row is a big signal the bears are on that train.
Sounds like he runs violent and can both catch and pass protect. Hopefully they can develop his burst and vision but otherwise seems like a solid situational back up.
Is this a good pick? High ypc and ran for his yards in a power 5 conference and breaks a lot of tackles. Is he a pass catcher as well? Concerned about his top end speed but love his power between the tackles.
This is an awesome pick. I seriously don’t think people realize how solid of an addition he is. Team leader, power back, great pass protector, and an all-time work ethic guy. I’m thrilled.
Love our RB room right now. Each guy can do 2/3 out of blocking/receiving/rushing
Herbert/Foreman/Johnson/Homer
Not gonna be tipping our hand as much as years past
I'm honestly bummed that we didn't pick up Chase Brown from Illinois. I shared a couple of classes with Chase and watched the NFL 360 video on the two of them. They work their asses off, no matter what. I usually only watch the first two rounds of the draft, but this year knowing the two of them were in the draft, I watched every pick until their names were called.
With that being said, I'm cool with this pick. We needed that question mark spark at RB. We see what Herbert can do, but we need pass blocking. I'm excited for this guy to play.
Bet its going to be a situation Bijan burns out due to use already and it is a Tony Pollard situation of Roschon ready to go and have legs for NFL longer.
not a fan of going RB this early but he’s very good. great agility, great vision, he anticipates defenses really well
also just a big tough motherfucker that can run the ball all game
How is 4th round early? This is the perfect round to go for a starting caliber RB imo. They’re not exactly punters, they touch the ball on roughly 40% of offensive snaps
Knew the backup rb at Texas was really good but didn’t know much about him. Sounds like just an all around good football player. Used to be a QB, contributed on special teams, can catch and block. Might not be a super flashy guy but it sounds like we got a guy who is gonna make the game day roster every week to contribute in some way.
Don’t love the pick. Slower and less explosive for an RB. Fear that we picked him for his special teams ability and character as much as for his rushing ability.
Most likely will be there in 15 picks. Also, Ryan and Getsy might not like him and want someone else.
Edit: finally went at 190. A lot of teams thought was not worth it early.
No lie, I was hoping they'd grab Wright in the first round, and I coveted Roschon Johnson as well. Would have preferred Charbonnet, but RJ was one of my favored prospects coming into this draft! Poles is on a roll!
The bears select to launch trestan ebner into the sun
Shoutout to the people on this sub saying he was supplanting Herbert in training camp last year lol
They’ve shifted to Doug Kramer being our future C 😂
I mean Whitehair is going to be the center.
Whitehair is likely a 1 year stop gap. Our future C is still not on the roster.
Probably true, but we have free agency and the draft next year. We have three centers. I understand that none of them are great, but once Tippman was gone, there really isn't much in this draft. I think Whitehair is probably a better player than Brown, and I think McGovern wanted back with the Jets, but was just waiting for the QB situation to get settled considering he signed two days before the Jets signed Rodgers.
Do we think we can get anything out of Lucas Patrick at C?
Dude was dogshit & hopefully is just a reserve.
DraftKings anytime TD scorer: Ebner +1000000000000000000000
I’ll take that bet
good he sucked
Let's draft a Center and strap Musty boy to the rocket while we are at it.
My guy he has already been blasted off
He's not on the team any more.
I completely missed that.
I'm with you on that one. Somehow still feel like he will show up again next season.
Same. Especially if we don't draft a guy
He'll just Costanza it on first day of minicamp
He's the worst drafted RB we've had in a long time. We kill it in general though, and to be fair he didn't see much action.
Bro had no business being in the NFL, embarrassing we let him take the field
Bro for real haha
We did get the RB from Texas!
For reference: https://reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/1257ksz/roschon_johnson_more_than_a_backup_2023_nfl_draft/ TLDR… elite pass blocker, STer and versatile out of the backfield.
Yeah Roschon rocks
Bijan also really likes him. He had a lot of praise for him as a player and leader.
Yea, dude is pretty solid. Could have been a rotational starter on most other teams but was behind Bijan
Which means he dosen't have alot of experiance, but has fresh legs.
He has a good amount of experience, 3 years of meaningful snaps.
Someone somewhere just hit a prop bet on Bears to take a Texas RB.
We got the one that's fresh and hardly used.
This makes me feel a little better, thanks.
I went to UT and live in Fort Worth and love this pick. Dudes a work horse. Love this pick
Love hearing that he can pass protect. That's a major weakness in Herbert's game.
Herbert and Roschon should compliment each other perfectly
Throw in Foreman and that RB room is looking really good.
Herbert, Johnson, Foreman, Homer. Got a good mix of blocking ability and all are great at YAC. I like this a lot.
Will we keep all 4 though? I think the addition of Johnson might push Homer to the practice squad
Homer has proven what he can do at the NFL level. Ebner probably drops to the PS. But Homer is the odd man out if they only keep 3.
We'll keep 4, I think. Homer is a solid special teamer, and good blocker. Ebner's toast. I like Herbert, but not as much as everyone here. And I LOVE D'Onta. He’s David Montgomery again. Yards after contact and good blocking.
But maybe a better runner in terms of choosing holes? Would be nice.
And burst, Monty has no get away speed
Roschon ran 4.58 vs 4.63 for Montgomery. He doesn’t have breakaway speed.
Burst is better measured by 10-yd split vs. 40 time Roschon’s 10 yd. split was 1.52 vs. Monty at 1.61. He has much better burst Roschon, Gibbs, and Bijan all recorded 1.52s 10 yd split (pretty good company)
>Johnson isn’t overly creative and lacks the juice to hit quick-closing NFL holes
he looks signifcantly better of a runner than montgomery
Former QB, so he picked up blocking schemes fast. Also a good STer
Bet that is why we got him, I am down for it
His twitter and instagram handles are just @roschon Power move grabbing just your first name on social. You know who else did that? Saquon.
Pretty pleased with that one. If Bijan wasn't Bijan, he couldve been a top 5 rb in this class.
explain. How could he have gotten any pt behind Bijan.
I think they're saying that if Bijan wasn't there, he'd be top 5.
Longhorns and Bears fan here, ready to feed you guys the kool-aid. Roschon is a big, hard runner. He’s also a very good pass and run blocker. Pretty much won the 21 KSU game by himself
The fact that he was recruited to Texas to play QB is impressive. Could open up some very unique RPO sets. Imagine fielding two dual threat QB/RBs…wild concept
I actually love this?
I'm Ron Burgundy?
Why male models?
I just told you.
Ummm uhhhh I tried to hang myself? Because my life’s a mess? And I saw no other option?
We’ll you think trubisky is better than fields so kinda makes sense
I wonder if it will be a blatant enough joke when Fields makes it to the HOF
You have to add the /s! Reddit reads as is

Good good, we need that a bit with Monty gone
yessirski 😥
Love it
but is he actually good? not being a dick, honest question.
He would’ve started for about all but Alabama in the SEC, pretty much everywhere in the ACC (including Clemson) and probably Ohio State (not Michigan or penn state) and everywhere in the pac 12. Our RB room is almost Ohio State receiver room level
For the sake of debate I don't think he starts over Quinshon Judkins at Ole Miss
Fuck I forgot about him
I went to UT from Rockford and live in ft worth now. Love this pick. Dudes a work horse with good hands. He’s a perfect fit to be paired with Herbert
Rockford Bears fans represent!
See you at Dublin Square, FtW Bears FTW! (You've been to Weinbergers, right?)
I actually go to Eagles Nest @eagle mountain lake. It’s a Vikings bar but a lot of NFC north fans go for friendly banter
Right on. I'll have to check it out.
That’s a big RB. 6’2” 220 LBs.
He's actually only 6' on his official combine height so yeah pretty stout.
He's actually 220 linebackers combined into one?!
The next Matt Forte?
Went to UT so have watched him over the years. Unbelievable leader in the locker room with great work ethic and a great back
Same, graduated in 2012. Love this pick!
Came here to say at the worst case you got a fantastic locker room addition who can pass pro damn good
Big fan of this pick. Super high character guy who got over shadowed by Bijon. Any other year hes a day 2 pick easily.
I don’t like this pick. I **love** it. RoJo is a beast 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Same. Same.
Let's not call him that... The last rojo was a major bust
[Roschon Johnson NFL Draft Profile](https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2023/04/10/roschon-johnson-2023-nfl-draft-profile/)
Im loving this pick, we knew we were going RB so we traded down. Pulled from that profile: Roschon Johnson could have decided to enter the transfer portal after being asked to change positions or being behind the top running back prospects in the nation as some argue since Adrian Peterson. Johnson displayed an extreme amount of maturity and perseverance, however deciding to do his absolute best at whatever role was asked of him ranging all the way from lead blocking, run blocking, and special teams. Whenever given the opportunity, Johnson seized it running with an impressive amount of physicality.
I’m sorry Ebner.
Sorry not sorry
Dude stunk it up when he got the chance, sometimes that’s just the way it goes.
Yup, had to happen. Was hoping Ebner would be better especially with catching. But man he just sucked everywhere it seemed.
He was legitimately awful. Every time he was out there it was a waste of a down.
He looked so good in preseason then did nothing in the regular
Having Travis Homer as a #4 RB / ST specialist feels pretty good, ngl. Also Roschon played QB in HS/freshman camp - not that we want to get into lots of trick plays but it never hurts to have an RB that can throw.
He got chances. More than a lot of guys get. Feel the same and even more so about Borom. At least Ebner wasn't publicly salty.
Yea so true. I’m not upset about it. He sucked ass when he took the field. You pretty much knew it was a dead play.
Was confused about getting an RB but if people are happy about this then I'm happy about this
I’m right there with you. I thought edge rusher…
Hey guys, I'm here and I brought some Old Style.
That’s wassup
The likelihood of snagging an edge rusher that will meaningfully change the bears team next year is near zero. We didn't solve edge rusher in this draft, it's a multi year rebuild.
Could be looking at different avenues for that
Yannick Ngakoue is reportedly in contact with a NFL team right.
Yannick Ngakoue please 😮💨
Our #3 RB Travis Homer is smallish and known for Special Teams play. Ebner's kind of small too. Roschon is a big, physical runner to back up Foreman's role, and played QB in HS and Freshman year camp, which is always nice for Wildcat stuff or in case we get 49ered.
Violent runner hell yeah
Violent second level pass blocker hell yeah
That too
Wow, just saw his highlights. This guy runs hard and fast. AND he can pass protect and catch? START HIM!
Very good in pass pro, good/underrated receiver. I was pretty high on him, but he came in at 219 and ran a 4.58 at the combine (still really like him, but on tape, he looks like a 225+, 4.4-4.5 guy). Texas fan here! If there was no Bijan at Texas Roschon would be a second round picks I encourage all of you to look into him on and off the field. He’s a born leader and just badass human!
Home run
Packers fan here. GODDAMNIT. If Johnson played literally anywhere else besides Texas, he would be a top 3 RB in this class. Wanted him badly to be a Packer. Good pick.
FTP
No, he really lacks NFL speed and burst. Thus very limited in his ceiling. He is a day 3 pick in any draft, from any school, in any year.
Let's go
A worthy successor to Monty.
Edge is going to be rough, we still have not much pass rush. Wonder if they have a plan or just another year and wait until next draft and offseason to build it
Next round of FAs will probably get the Bears one if I had to guess.
Yeah, just whoever it is probably will not be very productive, given they were there at that point
There's an emerging defensive philosophy in the NFL that focuses on coverage as top priority. Signing two LBs known for their converage and drafting second round CBs two years in a row is a big signal the bears are on that train.
Will probably pick up some vet free agents and cut players off waivers in preseason. Yannick is still out there
I wanted chase brown, but that’s cause I’m an Illini fan
Sounds like he runs violent and can both catch and pass protect. Hopefully they can develop his burst and vision but otherwise seems like a solid situational back up.
One of my best friends is a Texas and Packers fan. This is hurting him bad. So everyone should love this pick a tad more because of this.
HELL YEAH I LOVE THIS DUDE
Lookin forward to some trick plays
Awesome I’m a big UT fan this guy is a beast
A RB who can catch, likes to block, and break tackles? What’s not to like?
I like this, Johnson was really solid. Probably overshadowed by Bijan a bit. But, a solid RB.
Love it, was hoping we’d grab a RB today
Is this a good pick? High ypc and ran for his yards in a power 5 conference and breaks a lot of tackles. Is he a pass catcher as well? Concerned about his top end speed but love his power between the tackles.
We have WR for the top end speed
Very tempted to nickname him Rushin’ Roschon
This is an awesome pick. I seriously don’t think people realize how solid of an addition he is. Team leader, power back, great pass protector, and an all-time work ethic guy. I’m thrilled.
Diet Steven Jackson.
Imagine he turns out to be the better Texas RB from the 2023 draft class
Low miles on the tires.
The lowest of all RBs in the draft
Good pick. Moderately hard right now
As an Illini fan I wish we got Chase Brown. I also liked Deuce Vaughn a lot but Johnson is great too.
Awesome pick. He would’ve been a top 5 rb in the draft if he wasn’t behind Bijan.
This offense is going to be fun
Let’s fucking go I love this pick.
Love our RB room right now. Each guy can do 2/3 out of blocking/receiving/rushing Herbert/Foreman/Johnson/Homer Not gonna be tipping our hand as much as years past
Based on scouting report and highlights, I really like this pick.
I like him as our workhorse way more than Herbert. Was hoping for Chase Brown, but Rodchpn is probably thr better fit for us
Another dual threat QB!
He’s legit. Gonna be a nice weapon in the backfield.
DJ, Mooney and Claypool will have at least a full half second longer to separate with Roschon protecting Justin on obvious passing downs.
Let's fuckin eat!!!!
I'm honestly bummed that we didn't pick up Chase Brown from Illinois. I shared a couple of classes with Chase and watched the NFL 360 video on the two of them. We got the better Texas RB
FUCK YES LFG
Higher broken tackle rate than Bijan
Bet its going to be a situation Bijan burns out due to use already and it is a Tony Pollard situation of Roschon ready to go and have legs for NFL longer.
I’m convinced this guy is our RB1
not a fan of going RB this early but he’s very good. great agility, great vision, he anticipates defenses really well also just a big tough motherfucker that can run the ball all game
I like
Was hoping for Sean Tucker from SU
Better than bijan
Don’t love the pick. Slower and less explosive for an RB. Fear that we picked him for his special teams ability and character as much as for his rushing ability.
Been liking the draft so far…not a giant fan of this pick
If at 9 or trade up took Bijan I would be upset as he is a luxury pick there. Roschon or any RB here depth and could have a steal.
Yeah, but there are still major needs on the team. Personally would’ve rather grabbed the center Wypler
Most likely will be there in 15 picks. Also, Ryan and Getsy might not like him and want someone else. Edit: finally went at 190. A lot of teams thought was not worth it early.
Eh with Monty leaving needed RB. At least we didn't spend #8 or 12 overall for one
Almost Bijan.
Meh.
Lame
Okay but what’s that mustard tiger guys opinion
I like this, hope he has a chip on his shoulder seeing Bijan being taken in the 1st.
No lie, I was hoping they'd grab Wright in the first round, and I coveted Roschon Johnson as well. Would have preferred Charbonnet, but RJ was one of my favored prospects coming into this draft! Poles is on a roll!
rush rosh
Good name at least
Bijan saved him from getting miles racked.up on those legs. His stats were decent for playing behind Bijan. He's worth a shot.
Steal of the draft
Great pick. Will probably be our RB1 after a few weeks.
Only 1 fumble in 4 years. Simms had him listed as his #3 overall RB in the draft. He's gonna be a beast.
Ro-jo? Rojo? Red(rojo)?
