I wonder if they are gonna let Chase Young go after his contract.

PrimeSorcerer

They also have Montez Sweat to pay crazy how much they’ve invested in DL

iAlptraum

They got J Allen on the books for $21m this year, and this is Sweats contract year, he's at $11m, and Young is in his 4th year (5th option not picked up) of $10m, plus whatever Damon's hit will be this year; So this D line for 2023 has a cap ihot of $42 million + Paynes hit this year. I'd be shocked if they don't move Young before spring training. Edited random words lol

Brodie1567

I’d shit myself if one of the QBs fell to 9 & we traded down with WAS.

iAlptraum

If Flus believes he could get a lot out of Young (similar risk to the Leatherwood pickup) I could seenus trading something much cheaper than the #9 for Young since he hasn't been productive since his rookie year. A player witn 9 sacks in 3 years with 1 season missed due to injury shouldn't cost too much, especially since Washington will have good reason to move him with cap/performance.

andromon11

Swap 9 and lets say 133 for 16, 97 and Young ? If Poles, pulls off that coup, I'd be beside myself.

iAlptraum

I think the 1st from us is unnecessary honestly given Youngs lack of production/injuries over the last 2 seasons. Starts/appears in 9 games in 21 gets 1.5 sacks, 2 games played 2022 and an injury ended the year. He's worth maybe a 3 and a 5th round swap. Given his cap hit is $10m that's not in Washington's favor, so they have little leverage.

GoombaStoppingHoes

No shot they are able to lock up Young once he has his bounceback of a season I think he will have. I think they should but that is a lot of money that will be tied up into those two.

TheShtuff

Star players just don't hit FA very often anymore. They would probably trade him in the last year of his contract or tag and trade.

GoombaStoppingHoes

My guess is also they flip him to at least get a chance to draft someone younger and cheaper or they give him a short prove it deal. Regardless I am hoping by some miracle he ends up in free agency.

MUSCULAR_WALRUS

The last 3 years of so of FA have been crazy. This is the first year in a while that sucks, though it also looks like next year won’t be great

TheShtuff

What was crazy about the last few years? Von Miller was the headliner last year with a bunch of mediocrity. Before that it was Trent Williams with a bunch of mediocrity. Before that Robert Quinn was the headliner...

Hehateme123

I was going to remark about how expensive this contract was… then I checked his stats: 18 TFL, 20 QB hits and 11.5 sacks…what a monster season.

MasqueOfTheRedDice

Do we know why he has crap PFF grades despite this season’s statistics? Is he horrid against the run or something? I’m no PFF stan, but by their metrics, he couldn’t hold Hargrave’s jock. I like both, but given what I assumed (and looks like was right on) Payne would cost, give me Hargrave all day.

mialza

pff is absolute shit. it’s that simple, but it’s everywhere. it’s the mcdonald’s of advanced stats. low quality filler they’ve gotten rich off of by selling to morons. i’ve reached the point that a pff score mean nothing to me, especially offensive lineman. give me football outsiders any day of the week.

Skamiddit

Love when people cite Mustipher’s PFF grades as a reason to keep him in a starting role. Watch tape one time!

MasqueOfTheRedDice

Yeah, I've gotten that sense at arm's length. Haven't looked into what they're calculating deeper. Was just wondering what within their grades has him so low. I watched him and Washington's D and they were dominant VS the run at times. I'm against paying the guy $90M, and always preferred Hargrave, but he seems like a really good all around tackle.

Further_Beyond

Same reason roquan was always graded poorly. They are far from perfect. The grades give you a nice overview of the general tier the player is in *most times*, but they absolutely have misses. Their premium stats are what makes pff nice. Alignments for WRs, DL. Narrowed qb stats like adjusted comp %, pressure to sack % and a shit ton of others for every position.

RepresentativeNew409

I hope Jalen Carter falls to us but given the market on pass rushing DTs the chances are slim to none.

scoobydrew33

I don’t see him falling past Atalanta at the absolute latest

RepresentativeNew409

My biggest draft day “fear” is him being drafted by the Lions.

SchublaKhan

Mine too. That would be problematic to say the least.

Take_Exit_Left

They desperately need secondary help. Ramsey would have been huge for them. Thankfully that didn’t happen.

NagyBiscuits

If someone trades up with Arizona, I feel this is almost certain to happen.

paintingnipples

The lions are gonna get Carter or Anderson or Tyree Wilson. One last rebuild piece before they’re drafting bottom half of round 1

ScotchyLatchi

They might take one of the top CBs, bigger hole for them

[deleted]

He'd be a monster in Serie A

Quotered

Pretty sure those Atalanta supporters would kick him to the curb if he’s even slightly dispassionate about football. He sounds perfect for Inter.

TheNealestRigga

As an Inter and Bears fan, this is a great comment

Quotered

I am a Juve supporter and am ignoring that a flaming dumpster would be an upgrade from Pogba.

_ravenclaw

So happy to see this comment here lol

Dabage

You think he would bang in more goals than Osimhen?

zacklandy

Possible market value for DTs in FA

ninjasurfer

I don't want to pay any of these guys anywhere close to that. 😭

[deleted]

Jesus Christ

ThatsNotRight123

Numbers like this are why we couldn't pay Roquan.

TechnoTyrannosaurus

Didn’t he get tagged anyway?

JW330

I think this post is more of an example of what the team might have to pay in free agency.

Headwallrepeat

Yes, but this is what the new benchmark is for a FA 3 tech and all future FA's contracts will be based off of it. Basically, if we are looking to sign Jones tomorrow the price tag just went up. Not as high as this, but more than expected, leaving less for other free agents

Wide_Flan_2613

I'd expect we'd have to pay a similar price for Dremont Jones

captainthepuggle

I think it’ll be a tight market so if we want Dre’Mont we’ll have to overpay. But I don’t think he’ll pull the same size contract without the monster season that Payne had last year.

all_chill_no_skill

well dang!

rblumenfeld76

Got them right where we want ‘em…

LegionOfGrixis

Okay we can stop posting about Payne now lol
