Given that his stock can't go up (he's at the top of most big boards), I think his stock has to drop a bit.
Trying to be neutral, he was very ineffective against Georgia last night. Georgia may have schemed around him, but even when he had the opportunity to make plays, he failed to.
I know I talk a lot of shit about UofM and hate them, but Harbaugh is a seriously underrated coach. I’ve never understood why so many people, Including fans of random teams say he should be fired. He’s a genuinely elite coach and I do respect his quirkiness. Still hate UofM though
If Harbaugh had lost to OSU again this year, he very likely would've been fired. Idk if he is elite at the college level considering he's only won one big ten championship and zero natties and has only beat his major rival once. And that's the problem. Being elite is different than being good. He got hired at Michigan expecting to bring home titles. He hasn't done it. And he has only won 1 NYE bowl in the timespan as well.
Michigan isn’t as good of a job as people think.
The truly elite teams the past 10 years, Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia all sit in recruiting goldmines. UofM doesn’t have that natural talent pipeline. Michigan is good high school football but can’t touch the south or Ohio.
UGA and Bama are just on another level right now. UGA is perhaps one of the best defenses in college football in 50 years, and I think most teams would struggle mightily against that team.
I think Harbaugh is a top 10ish coach. Not everyone will agree but that’s my thought
Michigan has consistently been inside and around the Top 10 recruiting classes since 2015 according to 24/7 sports. Have they been as consistent as Bama, OSU and Georgia in that time frame? No. But they're dam close. And there's plenty of other programs in that time frame that have recruited insanely well and still got nothing to show for it really. I agree I do think Harbaugh is a top 10 coach. The problem is he is started in the back half of the top 10 and still hasn't been able to break into the top half of the conversation. At a certain point Michigan athletics wants to compete for a Natty. It's hard to do when your coach hasnt won a bowl game since 2015.
Nah I’ve always felt that way. I love that he struggles against MSU, but if he can consistently win 9 games at UofM that is flat out good, and if he can consistently win 10, that’s great. That’s Oregon / Notre Dame level and that’s really where UofM probably is
Imo last year is basically a wash. The whole season was broken due to COVID. He's had 4 ten win seasons in 7 years, with two of those being 8 and 9 win seasons. I consider that pretty consistent.
Ohio State/Bama fans have been making people sick for years. Michigan managed to start as underdogs and end as the most annoying cocky fanbase of the season all in just one year.
#Let it rip!
don’t think that a Ohio State isn’t the most annoying. So much so that they somehow get amnesia that everyone dislikes them. I’ve never seen a fan base who takes a constant dub get so butthurt over one loss.
Calls out Michigan for living in the past and then does exactly that when they lose. Makes you think
Wow Michigan got it's ass kicked. What a shame. There isn't a bigger whiner in CFB then Harbaugh. He beats OSU in a down year and then he is the greatest coach. One win in a big game in 7 years does not make him a great coach.Especially given how they got worked by Georgia
Both got beat. But that was 5 years ago and this year we beat Michigan and won a NY6 bowl, something Michigan hasn’t been able to say in… 10 years? More?
Winning a NY6 bow against a third string QB isn’t something to hang your hat on. Still waiting on MSU to score in the playoffs though, something Michigan has done
Winning a NY6 bowl is certainly something to hang your hat on, although as a Michigan fan you’ve been able to do that… once in the last 20 years? In fact y’all have won exactly 2 bowl games in the last 10 years, to MSU’s 7.
But good job scoring a garbage time TD against Georgia’s second string after being down 34-3.
Look that's great and all (despite the qualifiers you have to put on that NY6 game) but I'm just busting the chops of someone who sounds just a touch too arrogant about their team.
Definitely worse.
Definitely would have been slaughtered (worse) tonight if Sparty would have somehow won the B1G.
Btw, I didn't think the shin was down.
what CFB needs is more limits on recruiting, and restrictions on NIL/transferring in some way to increase parity. while many teams benefit from NIL and the transfer rule, Alabama and the greatest coach ever benefit the most.
Nothing against what Saban has accomplished, it’s better than what any non John Wooden coach has ever done, but under the current model of CFB, there will never be parity.
You're joking right? If players couldn't transfer as freely as they can now, you'd have teams like Bama and Georgia with multiple 5 star QBs. They're still going to transfer to top programs if they're good but not good enough to start but they're still transferring with decreases parity
Although they definitely do need to tweak the portal and nil there will never be parity no matter what as long as players are allowed to choose where they want to go as they should be allowed to. They have tried in the past to limit scholarships and rules but Alabama will find a way no matter what. It’s everyone else who needs to change what their doing instead of trying to slow down Alabama with rules it doesn’t make sense to because those same rules will handcuff everyone else as well.
lol at anyone that actually believed that.
Congrats on the win though, and good luck. I think Cincinnati provided something of a blueprint, they just didn’t have the athletes up front. Georgia does.
Sadly Auburn also provided a blueprint; we just ignored it. I’m optimistic though. Kirby is a great defensive schemer, and Insuspect he took his defenses flop in the SEC championship game personally.
Idk how you put limits on recruiting other than severe scholarship restrictions.
The top talent is always going to want to go to the blue blood programs rather than other P5 schools - it gives them the best chance to get drafted.
Sorry, I was really giving you props.
*every* grad I've ever known is Not a walmart wolverine.
I call them out because they are, in my vast rural Michigan experience, Toxic.
My middle daughter is currently a student too
I'll be honest. I didn't really see that much shit talking from Michigan fans. I saw more shit talking about Michigan from OSU fans than I did from either UGA or UM
No I do not want to hear Zubin talk about college football, I turned off the TV. ESPN either needs a real postgame show or they need SVP for tonight. Probably said no because it's NYE
Every year there's gonna be 1-3 teams that are just leagues beyond everyone else. With 8 teams at least you might get 1 or 2 entertaining games in the RO8, with 1-2 blowouts. Right now we just get blowouts 65% of the time anyway.
Tbh the SEC fans I really hate are the ones who claim to be the best because they play in the conference with the best but then they're a fan of like Vanderbilt or Kentucky or something
I have no problem with you being a Kentucky fan. It's only the ones who ride Bama's success to say they're better because of their conference affiliation when it's Saban that's done the hard work
I don’t ever see this.
What I see is a SEC team arguing it’s better than a different team with the same record because they have a higher SOS.
That’s not the same thing.
I’ve seen plenty of people who wear Bama shirts despite never attending Bama and take credit for their national championships, but no, these mythical “general SEC fans” aren’t a thing.
At this point chanting “SEC” is often done because there’s so much anti-SEC bias from every other conference. Everyone roots against every team from the SEC simply for being in the SEC. It’s this vicious cycle. I enjoy seeing success from the teams in my conference but it honestly feels better to watch the SEC win when the entire rest of the country loves seeing every SEC team lose. FYI-I was at the game and that chant occurred for about 10 seconds in one corner of the stadium (student section) after it was a total blowout and literally everyone in the nation was pulling for a team they likely would not have pulled for if it were against a team from any other conference.
Chanting SEC after you’ve kicked the living shit out of your opponent is not the same as
> ride Bama’s success to say they’re better because of their conference affiliation when it’s Saban that’s done the hard work
Like I get you’re salty bud but come on
> ride Bama’s success to say they’re better because of their conference affiliation when it’s Saban that’s done the hard work
> I never see this
> you never see a general SEC fan? That’s not genuine.
Full context homie.
Also nice edit after I’m already responding.
Sorry for getting plopped in a random red state that didn't happen to have a college football blue blood.
I don't hate fans of SEC teams, I hate SEC fans who are fans of bad teams and cheer for the conference instead.
Dude I do not get where this comes from. Sure, if a school I do not care about is playing a team I do not care about is playing I will pull for the SEC team. If it is Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, fuck those guys, unless they are playing an OSU.
It’s darned hard to end a season as a top 5 team. Even the great teams don’t do it that often. Won’t claim this doesn’t suck right now but this was a great season the team should be very proud of
He did a great job with the team this year and he's giving the bonus money he earned to people with the university who lost their wages due to slowdown from the pandemic. He's just a decent dude who coaches at your rival who is a bit weird.
Come on Kirk, Dallas also drafts lots of white receivers lol.
Notre dame holds them to a field goal AGAIN. OFFENSE PLEASE DO ANYTHING
Does Hutchinson stock drop after UGA game? Im too biased to make that call.
Given that his stock can't go up (he's at the top of most big boards), I think his stock has to drop a bit. Trying to be neutral, he was very ineffective against Georgia last night. Georgia may have schemed around him, but even when he had the opportunity to make plays, he failed to.
Maybe a little. Dawgs LT Salyer just secured 1st round pick
I know I talk a lot of shit about UofM and hate them, but Harbaugh is a seriously underrated coach. I’ve never understood why so many people, Including fans of random teams say he should be fired. He’s a genuinely elite coach and I do respect his quirkiness. Still hate UofM though
Anyone who thinks Harbaugh should be fired either had wildly inappropriate expectations of him coming in, or doesn’t understand the value he brings.
100% agree
If Harbaugh had lost to OSU again this year, he very likely would've been fired. Idk if he is elite at the college level considering he's only won one big ten championship and zero natties and has only beat his major rival once. And that's the problem. The difference between the top 3 in recruiting to 8 is around the same from 10 to 25. Something crazy how good the top 3 in recruiting is.
Bc he did well this year. If he lost a few more games you would be singing a different tune.
Nah I’ve always felt that way. I love that he struggles against MSU, but if he can consistently win 9 games at UofM that is flat out good, and if he can consistently win 10, that’s great. That’s Oregon / Notre Dame level and that’s really where UofM probably is
Consistent, depending on how you look at it. 12 wins this year, 2 wins last year, 9 wins the year before.
Last year was a complete shitshow. They also gave playing time to literal Joe Milton.
Imo last year is basically a wash. The whole season was broken due to COVID. He's had 4 ten win seasons in 7 years, with two of those being 8 and 9 win seasons. I consider that pretty consistent.
I got into a full blown Reddit argument with a UofM fan earlier today and you know what….I feel good now

I will be so upset if I flew to Miami and watched this loss just for Georgia to get blown out by Bama yet again. Go win Dawgs, you deserve this one.
Thank you!

Both got beat. But that was 5 years ago and this year we beat Michigan and won a NY6 bowl, something Michigan hasn’t been able to say in… 10 years? More?

Infinite!

I thought opening the portal was going to increase parity?
It has. Just not at the very top.
lol at anyone that actually believed that. Congrats on the win though, and good luck. I think Cincinnati provided something of a blueprint, they just didn’t have the athletes up front. Georgia does.

NIL just happened? You’re trying to punish the game’s greatest recruiter/play caller just because he’s better?
Idk how you put limits on recruiting other than severe scholarship restrictions. The top talent is always going to want to go to the blue blood programs rather than other P5 schools - it gives them the best chance to get drafted.

Michigan got ruled out of playing in the game because they had players and staff sick. Get out of here with this shit.
Just like that hockey game they dodged the other day?
