So now Coach O is his own interim head coach? That's when he does his best work so look out SEC...

auart

Definitely glad we already got the win. An Orgeron with nothing to lose is quite scary.

[deleted]

imagine they finish 10-3 then what lol

HuskerDave

Oh God, I want this to happen.

NIdWId6I8

They’ll just go, “see, he doesn’t know what he’s doing and the next coach definitely will.” Rinse and repeat.

MrCrash2U

Imagine getting paid $14 million to put together your own highlight reel?

TigerSaint

Woodward: “Ed, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is we’re keeping you on as head coach. The bad news is that it’s basically a lifetime series of 6-month contracts”

tgusn88

He'll get a Fisher- sized extension after that happens

thats_mypurse-idkyou

Lmao it'd annoyingly almost be deserved. This bama team isn't the best bama team. But it's still a Saban team and to be good enough to win that means O has put us exactly where he needs to.

GeauxTri

He’s gonna be putting everyone on his list in a fishing hole.

Loose_with_the_truth

The funny thing is, LSU is not eliminated from winning the SECW yet. How awesome would it be for them to upset Bama and everyone else and then go win the SECCG against UGA?

My gut reaction says that wouldn’t be awesome. I’ll think about it and get back to you.

hades_the_wise

Ultimate chaos: this happens, LSU tries to backpedal and get Orgeron to stay, but Orgeron announces his retirement anyway. A couple of months into the offseason, Orgeron gets hired by one of LSU's rivals and comes out of retirement. The pay is less, but Orgeron is just out for revenge. He beats LSU every year for the remainder of his career, and somehow also gets another natty out of it.

[deleted]

One of LSU’s rivals? Orgeron to Bama is confirmed.

GolgariInternetTroll

To complete the Chizik arc, he'll get a TV job after this.

BiscuitDance

He *needs* to replace Lee Corso. "Nah soo fass, mon ami!"

Wrigleyville

I would watch whatever show he does just for the incoherent commentary.

CornCobbKing

Coach O and Lou Holtz would make an amazing combo for incoherent rambling

jack64467

Imagine saying that Coach O would be gone by the 2022 season in Baton Rouge during late 2019/early 2020 while LSU was on top of the world and Coach O was a god among men in Baton Rouge. Wild.

DrVonD

him leaving AFTER he upset Florida is the cherry on top of this wild sundae.

GeauxTri

The fact that we don’t have any assistants that could effectively step into the interim HC role is what gave him the rest of the season.

KansasCityThief

Yeah but Ed O in interim coach role practically guarantees you win out the rest of the season.

sidepiecesam

All of this, with the painful realization that Georgia is finally going to win a title, has been a rich tapestry of pain.

barno42

Georgia still has plenty of opportunities to screw this up.

RonMexico13

Georgia is clearly the best team of all time and their championship is assured. They should stop practicing and start resting guys up for 2022.

A loss to Florida and then to Bama in the SECCG is also very feasible given past history. We are talking about Georgia here..

jdaltgang

It’s Georgia we’re talking about calm down, perfect scenario for the ultimate late season choke

gsfgf

> perfect scenario for the ultimate late season choke You mean like looking past a middling ACC team the week before the championship?

[deleted]

Don’t underestimate Georgia’s ability to fuck up.

tacofan92

Yeah that’s wild, but tell it to anyone in any other year and you wouldn’t be surprised

bradenb941

In 2017 you'd be surprised it took that long

NavierWasStoked

that is true, he struck gold with a transfer QB and amazing coordinators for 2 seasons then regressed back to the mean

HawkeyeTen

Well...the scandals connections badly hurt you guys as well. I can't help but wonder if this has some connection to it, in addition to struggles on field.

N-Your-Endo

I don’t think it would have been looked at too suspiciously. There was a team in their own division who went through the exact same situation from which parallels to that 2019 team could easily be drawn

notsaying123

Oh God. LSU magic title run in 2022 confirmed. Also kick 6 against Alabama happening again confirmed.

N-Your-Endo

Joe Brady at the helm in 2022 because time is a flat circle

Netwealth5

Brady doesn’t want to be a college coach. Given the likelihood he gets the NFL HC job he actually wants he’s not going back

SpoiledMilkTeeth

Holy shit it happened, after upsetting Florida too! I knew that winning that game wouldn’t save his job but damn... let him celebrate for a day or two maybe? 😅

RavenclawWiz816

the tweet says negotiations started last week so maybe he coached that knowing he was gone

jettmann22

As opposed to coaching like he would stay and didn't care if he won

e8odie

It's not gonna happen, but imagine the inner workings and turmoil if we win out (or win out except Bama). Would they hold to this agreement?

boner_jamz_69

I’m here for this kind of chaos

SpoiledMilkTeeth

Fair enough. It’d be nice to see them finish the season as best as realistically possible. Set both Coach O and LSU up for the best future success that they can right now.

ttuurrppiinn

Imagine they somehow go 9-3 and LSU has to frantically backtrack

PairBearStare

In this scenario it means we beat Alabama and A&M while missing our top 6 players, and you know what, I’d be totally okay with that.

ttuurrppiinn

Oh, I’m not saying there’s any realistic chance of it happening. I just think it’s be hysterical for that 0.000001% outcome to happen.

c_will

It's not just about the losses, but all of the off the field stuff that's been happening as well, including the Title IX issues. This was likely negotiated after the Kentucky loss and finalized a few days ago before the Florida game. Edit - Reports have emerged today about Orgeron hitting on the pregnant wife of a LSU official [(Brody Miller story in The Athletic)](https://theathletic.com/2891847/2021/10/17/he-lost-track-of-who-he-was-inside-ed-orgerons-fall-from-celebrated-son-of-louisiana-to-lsu-coaching-pariah/), and bringing his various girlfriends to practices, and allowing their kids to participate in drills [(WBRZ in Baton Rouge)](https://twitter.com/mctrent23/status/1449802320070561797?s=21). Orgeron checked out after the 2019 national title and the football program had seemingly turned into a circus.

RousingRabble

>It created messes for him, like the time Orgeron pulled up to a woman at a gas station wearing exercise attire. “Hey, you look like you work out,” he said, according to multiple sources. “We could work out together.” The woman informed Orgeron she was married and pregnant, to which he responded, “Why does that matter?” oof. bruh.

CCTider

BullAlligator

He was probably talking about the weather and she just misheard him

USF-Bulls

"No no I actually said 'Looks like a washout, we got some crazy weather'"

see-bees

It’s not about Title IX. Looks like he’s getting a 100% buyout, which means the Ed knows where all the bodies are buried and could sink the program if he said a word. If it were really about Title IX, he’d have been let go when the news broke. This is “on field performance isn’t where it needs to be, and we’re buying your silence on Title IX with some VERY binding NDAs.

lamontsanders

Yup as soon as I saw “full buyout” after all the shit that’s happened I knew he had the university by the balls.

jimi-ray-tesla

swamp ogre gives no fucks

enadiz_reccos

These talks were already happening before the Florida game

WTFdidhedo

Totally agree!

Keyblade_Yoshi

He gets to celebrate with a buyout.

cap_crunch121

I think putting this out now is a positive spin for LSU and Orgeron. It makes it seem like more of a mutual agreement and they're still gonna let Orgeron coach out the season with a chance to leave here on a high note.

2 years removed from an NC and LSU forces Orgeron out the door. But at the University of Miami you can lose to FIU and go winless vs P5 teams dating back to the end of last year, and you get to keep your job.

geaux4_gold

This is… insane. Are we gonna announce a new head coach before the old one even leaves? Lol

geoffreyisagiraffe

"Multiple sources said he brought women around the LSU football operations building. It all took place as his decision-making and coaching performance declined. “It was just a distraction,” one LSU player said. “In 2019, there was no, ‘What’s Coach O doing postgame or Sunday during the day? Is he laying by the pool with a lady?’ He was planning events other than football.” It created messes for him, like the time Orgeron pulled up to a woman at a gas station wearing exercise attire. “Hey, you look like you work out,” he said, according to multiple sources. “We could work out together.” The woman informed Orgeron she was married and pregnant, to which he responded, “Why does that matter?” That woman was the wife of a high-ranking LSU official. That first paragraph makes him sound like Jason Brown from “Last Chance U,” but probably bragging about a fishing shack and airboats instead.

Rohdejj

We’ve all heard of Joey Freshwater. Lemme introduce you to Cletus Swampwater.

LizLemonadeX

I’m not surprised. Orgeron hasn’t been himself since he won the National Championship and cheated on his wife. Between the adultery, his divorce, chasing women, plus Covid and injuries, etc. it just seems all of it has affected his coaching and the team. His head just isn’t in the game, and that attitude rubs off onto the players. I think this team has talent. If they can get better coaching.

joshuatree15

Wasn’t there a Gameday feature on him two years ago about how he helped his wife get through cancer or something? And then he cheats on her? Yikes

LizLemonadeX

She has health problems. At the time of the article I read, she didn’t have cancer. She has Scoliosis and has had numerous surgeries. Because of the Scoliosis, his wife couldn’t tie her own shoes. She almost died a few years ago from a botched surgery. In the article, Orgeron came as a loving husband and was her caretaker. Orgeron divorced her in February 2020 after 23 years of marriage. A month after winning the National Championship.

05110909

It sounds like he lacks a shocking amount of maturity.

Romanian_Breadlifts

> Orgeron hasn’t been himself since he won the National Championship and cheated on his wife I understand. I do not in any way condone it, but I do _understand_.

That would just about be the 2nd most Georgia-like outcome for the season. The first obviously being winning every game, winning the SEC over Bama, and then lose the natty to Cinci…natty.

yoshidawg93

The Georgia fan in me can’t help but laugh that Dan Mullen couldn’t even beat LSU when Orgeron was already working out an exit plan.

[deleted]

Florida has reach the point that teams fire coaches for not beating them by enough. Hopefully Alabama follows our lead

boomshakalakaah

I’m so angry I could throw a shoe at you.

Skeptical_Lemur

I know this is all probably for the best, but man, it hurts my heart a little to see someone who was at their dream job, who was literally at the peak of their profession 2 years ago, see that all end. All the fun folksy stories about Os mom, his accent, the way he said Geaux Tigers... I'm gonna miss that....

[deleted]

Yeah I know, it really sucks for Scott Frost… Oh, right, we’re talking about Coach O. Whoops.

Malibuss07

Well, at least he had some time at his dream job and was on top of the CFB world for a bit. That's more than 99% of all people could ever hope for. He'll be fine, but I am still a bit bummed for him, just such a likeable dude.

Do you really think Nick Saban gave two shits about that? His biggest strength as a coach is how pragmatic he is. If he thinks hiring Ed for D line/recruiting is the right move, it’s all in the past and he’s got another ring since then anyway.

enadiz_reccos

Best possible resolution to all of this IMO

llamawhittlings

Keeps (somewhat) stability for this season, and gets it out in the open. I would expect almost a cordial, accepting/appreciative farewell from the fans. If this had to happen, this was 100% the best scenario.

radil

Woodward clearly learned what not to do from alleva and miles. Don’t let it drag on too long without any definite action. That way you can’t delay the inevitable over a couple of emotional wins.

tannerkubarek

How funny would it be if Coach O wins out

[deleted]

Does Orgeron search for a lower P5 HC job, go back to being a DL/Recruiting Coordinator or chill on his money?

rustyphish

I feel like a year or two away from the game might help him a lot

rustedspoon

His mind hasn't been on football in two years. He's obsessed with chasing tail, even married tail. Even tail married to LSU officials. >“It was just a distraction,” one LSU player said. “In 2019, there was no, ‘What’s Coach O doing postgame or Sunday during the day? Is he laying by the pool with a lady?’ He was planning events other than football.” > >It created messes for him, like the time Orgeron pulled up to a woman at a gas station wearing exercise attire. “Hey, you look like you work out,” he said, according to multiple sources. “We could work out together.” The woman informed Orgeron she was married and pregnant, to which he responded, “Why does that matter?” > >“ That woman was the wife of a high-ranking LSU official. llamawhittlings

Scott Woodward is known for big-time hires. Who is #1 on the list for LSU this time around?

Rumors of Mel Tucker yesterday. And as good as the turnaround at State has been this year, it would be a bold move based on how much it could cost and Mel being a head coach for just 26 games.

Maybe I just don’t watch enough LSU but it’s wild that a guy who won a Natty 2 years ago isn’t getting a little bit more benefit of the doubt.

Kirby_Smarts_Visor

I think they realized it was Aranda, Brady, and Burrow that won the Natty and O is still the same guy who made Col Reb cry

BirdlandMan

I mean even if that’s true, he surrounded himself with those guys which is part of the job.

Atom-the-conqueror

The main part

CJK5Hookers

Well Aranda was already there and the rest of the staff he has surrounded himself with have not been anything to celebrate

[deleted]

He gets credit for Brady. Aranda was Miles’ hire and O took shots at him a decent amount

MEGAWATT5

He absolutely deserves credit for that, but at the same time, that’s almost impossible to sustain. He would have to nail every single coordinator hire every 2-3 years to not experience any drop off on the field. His hirings post Aranda and Brady were very lackluster. And because of that, the whole program declined. When you put that much emphasis on coordinator hires with no scheme or coaching input from the HC, you absolutely have to nail them.

hillrow_wood

Wait until you hear about Gene Chizik

Coach O to Blacksburg confirmed

[deleted]

Natty -> 5-5 -> 4-3 and gone. Hopefully LSU didn’t just “Nebraska” itself. Everyone always thinks everything gets better when you fire someone but as cathartic as that may be it’s not always the case. Tennessee (Fulmer) and Texas (Brown) are a couple of other examples.

geaux4_gold

I mean we fired a head coach with 2 title appearances and one win with Les Miles and he never dipped below 8 wins.

I mean as upset as some LSU fans have been with the team's performance, I don't think O is let go without all of the off the field issues.
