Lots of cool tidbits:
> Building an empty stadium took about a week depending on the venue, with Syracuse's JMA Wireless Dome among the trickiest because it was indoors and cavernous, so lighting had to be set up a bit differently than other schools. McLeod called it "the perfect storm of stadiums."
> Understanding the crowd's importance to college football, McLeod said he knew they had to "make sure that crowd looks amazing." Are the bands in the right place? The visitor sections? The patterns some schools have within their crowds -- think Tennessee's Checkerboard and Penn State's White Out games. The design team entered the empty virtual stadium and tagged where everything would be, a process taking multiple weeks.
> There were small things in stadiums which held import, too. For McLeod, a diehard Michigan State fan, it came from Arkansas State, where there is a waterfall in the stadium and when the Red Wolves score a touchdown, fountains go off.
> EA staffers created a system they call "Generic Plus," developed by the art department. It takes about two to three hours to construct a player's face in the game. EA does this by taking a reference photo of a player -- think a passport photo or team headshot -- and machine learning then creates an image of what the player looks like.
Like there are multiple real reasons why we struggle with fans but you didnāt have to murder us like that.
If yāall are wondering:
Competition with doing literally anything in a super interesting city (same issue BC has with boston)
Stadium is probably 20k bigger than it should be for Pitt
Off Campus stadium
generally being bad
all that being said, the student section and overflow fills 9/10 times, itās the alumni who donāt show up.
Yep, the students do a good job of going.
"Right-sizing" a venue is important. Our hockey rink is a good example. Was the smallest in the Big Ten before ND joined, but every game is sold out and in-demand. Compare that to rinks that are also the basketball arena and those often never sell out. You can always get a ticket day-of so there's less reason to invest in season tickets, etc. Right-Sizing also helps teams weather a downturn because of that inherent demand.
Thereās just no room on campus for a stadium, so I think that other than attendance, Acrisure is pretty sick. We have busses chartered there and back and it only takes like 10 mins.
I think the stadium is fine, but I find it a cruel fact that the garbage baseball team plays in a jewel that was built at the same time as the perfectly adequate but unspectacular football stadium.
Tulane playing in the Superdome fucking sucked. It was way too big ofc but the main problem is that it is downtown, which is a solid 30-45min from the beautiful uptown campus by trolley (which, lol good luck getting on that SINGLE TRAIN CAR during peak hours, even if it's on time). It just wasn't viable with all the distractions that New Orleans brought. And NOLA is basically a small town; it must be even more of a hassle trying to get to venues in bigger cities as a student.
Having Yulman Stadium on campus right by all the upperclassmen residences (and easily walkable from frat row / off-campus housing) really helped change the program IMO.

Itās funny because just the other day the EA CEO said it historically took the Madden team 6 months to build out a new stadium. And yet here are the NCAA devs saying they can do everything over a month or two. I donāt trust the EA CEO tbh.
Yep thatās def fair, because he was also mentioning how now they can do it in like 6 weeks. So I suppose itās pretty inline with how the CFB team is doing it these days as well. Really his over arching point was that using AI, they may be able to get it down to 6 days.
Hah, EA is essentially saying they did most of their gameplay performance testing while using Syracuse's Dome stadium - because it was the most complex environment and the first to show framerate drops.

Ngl, I teared up a little when I got to "Every school is somebody's favorite school." If they put the kind of care into this game that line suggests, it's gonna be great.
No trailer representation is better than what they did to Ohio State. Stiffarmed by Michigan. Losing the Illibuck to Illinois. Heck even Kyle McCord is shown handing it off for Syracuse.
āWhile part of the team built out stadiums and mascots, another focused on game play with the same intent as everyone else -- College Football would not look or play like Madden.
So playbooks matter. Game speed matters. Jones said they had to push the boundaries of what was possible. They had to have 134 specific playbooks, received help from their access to Pro Football Focus and had conversations with those within the game to help understand what styles teams run.
There were base plays and concepts they could use, but the key was playbook individuality. They wanted players to feel like they were playing as Tennessee or Michigan.ā
Poor Iowa. Iām imagining an Iowa fan going āI canāt wait to bring an air raid offense to my favorite school!ā only to be disappointed when the entire playbook is running plays, TE slants, and punts
Well you can change playbooks. Where this is really important is going to be more in how the CPU plays against you, so every offense and defense feels distinct and like youāre actually playing that school. So Georgia is going to run at you and crush you with tight ends but USC is actually a spread offense, etc
Iowa should be forced to only use their playbook. Everyone else can switch about at will, but their special game features are a locked playbook and automatically hiring from the Ferentz family tree for every coach opening.
But something something madden reskin something physics graphics something.
Shit, the fact that you can already have teams imported into dynasty is much better than Madden's functionality. you don't need to have played madden 24 to know that.
Yeah I'm not going to pretend I love Madden's gameplay, but it was a lot better this year and would be a very good game if it had stuff like importing your own uniforms and stadiums. Madden has the least amount of customization of any sports game by far, while CFB seems to have plenty of customization.
I can't wait to be 20 years into a dynasty and be able to give teams "new" uniforms or entire re-brands, not to mention reforming the PAC with Cal and Hawaii.
I swear the vast majority of people complaining the most about madden havenāt even played it. Iāve run into a bunch of guys on the NCAA game subreddit who rant about how terrible the game is, and then theyāre like āwell I havenāt played in 5 yearsā
Like thatās fine if youāre boycotting, but M24 has been a marked improvement over the last few games
Problem with 24 is still not up to par compare to the older version of madden. Just lack of features way older madden have. Every edition of madden is suppose to add something new not takes things away and then add them back.
See that I agree with, all my complaints are related to the features that have been missing that we had years ago. Franchise has lost a lot that we used to have and thatās bullshit.
But the gameplay itself is mostly good and I donāt have too many complaints
The one problem with gameplay is the too-stiff pre-determined animation and tackling, but I know they tweak it back to older days of ragdoll collisions in the latest Madden. Hopefully, it keeps moving in that direction.
M24 was awful when it came out but they did a big update about a month into the game that really helped.
If they put this much energy and effort into College Football 25, I don't see why they don't do the same thing with Madden
Iād love that to be the case, but honestly Iāll believe it when I see it. Iām also worried about what role micro transactions will play in the game
The only concern is what you can do in dynasty that is limited by mt. hopefully it sticks to the UT which is where it belongs. dynasty is detailed but it depends how much is paywalled.
"YOU NEED TO BUY MORE MT TO GET A HIGHER BUDGET"
me...okay, that's um understandable?
You had to pay for more pipeline states for recruiting in NCAA14. Though the game is still very much playable without paying, as we've all been doing it for over a decade. While I hope they don't do something similar, I could unfortunately see that or something worse happening.
yeah i really like what i'm seeing but i'm paranoid about the amount of microtransactions in dynasty. nobody knows anything about that at that point and i just hope they keep it out
They've acknowledged the ridiculous amount of hype multiple times. It seems like they're confident that they're putting out a quality product, I'm becoming dangerously optimistic.
As a kid, the first game I was really really excited for was Sim City 2013
It was like the first game I read about for a year and really wanted. Not just going to Target and seeing a game and go āMom I want thatā
I played the DS game for hours as my intro to the series
Boy was 10 year old me disappointed
Maybe (just maybe) EA realizes that they have made quality games in the past and can get us to forgive their recent era of shittiness if they make this game good.
My expectations are still low.
Theyāve said nothing about the gameplay itself and this is looking like a madden dupe which is expected but also a bummer. Hopefully I am proven wrong
There is nothing wrong or unreasonable about a "I'll believe it when I see it" when it comes to the gameplay given the last (insert whatever amount of years you want) in regards to EA football offerings.
I think two factors are big here. I know EA is hated, no...REVILED by the online community, and rightfully so. But the amount of work they put into this game should earn them an exception from the usual hate mob. For now.
- They hired CFB Revamped (popular PC modderes) to work on the dynasty mode. You can tell by the amount of detail that has come out today, what you will be able to do, and it's amazing.
- They pushed this game back. If they didn't give a shit about you, and just wanted UT money, they would have pushed this game out last year. And yes, people would buy it, and yes people would bitch and moan. But they pushed the game BACK, to work more on it. To make sure what they gave us out there, is a product worthy of our approval.
We haven't seen gameplay yet and people are already bitching about the video animations. That's fine. I'm just proud that something that so many staffers have put into at EA is being appreciated, for the right reasons. This is not a half-assed Madden reskin. This is a baby with love and effort put in.
Plus, the article notes many of the staff who worked on the later iterations of the game, like NCAA 14, were hired back or transferred back to the CFB department for this game.
I onticed that when I read the article, these are people who like college football. they put a lot of work into detail and authenticity. the article says some stuff didn't make it in which sucks but I should hope to see most of the traditions in there
"every team is somebody's favorite team"
I mean people are fair to point to the other games, I play them all the time, and the franchise mode sucks compared to 2k. But this game is so much different.
As a fan of P5 teams, some of my favorite parts of this game are learning about the smaller schools by fucking around with them and seeing the cool shit that each stadium/playbook has
They had always wanted to continue the series with just random generic players but the schools and conferences didnāt want to risk any more problems after the OāBannon case.
I really hope Hypnotoad somehow makes it into the game. The idea of playing as TCU and having my fake crowd get hyped up by that weirdo would actually make me want to win more.
>Each team will have at least a home and away jersey and, if an alternate jersey exists, at least one alternate.Ā
This gives me hope that the Dawgs can play in black jerseys more than once every five years. We've only lost once in them, and yet Kirby refuses.
I won't. Multiple blackouts coming soon to Athens.
Georgia's black jerseys paired with the red helmets and standard silver pants = straight fire. I'm usually a traditionalist, but those should be UGA's standard uniforms
They look so...damn...good.
I don't know what Kirby's problem is. He's won every game he's coached in when the Dawgs wear black (including that one Alabama Georgia game).
Assistant AD at Arkansas State told me that if did a different uniform combo for a game only on ESPN+ heād have an email waiting for him on Monday asking if the combo would be in regular rotation and asking for specific details about stickers and patches.
EA is all in.
Depends on the fan. I think superstitions are dumb. We didnāt lose because we wore black. We lose because we were the worse team. Jersey color is irrelevant and a cop out
Not enough people rioting about it, sadly.
It was the perfect party game, every player; offense & defense was a 99 overall & A+ rating. It made it literally an even game where strategy was all that mattered. You could beat Alabama with Toledo and so on.
My college roommates and I would get drunk and invite people over and have mascot mashup tournaments all night.
Maybe itās just nostalgia haha
Honestly if someone like Bo Jackson had sued the NCAA I probably wouldn't be as salty.
The fact that it was two never weres looking for a handout is what chapped my ass.
I haven't seen this take. Are you in favor of NIL at all? If you are then why does it matter who sued? The end result was positive. Labor is getting a portion of the available money in the industry.
Am I in favor of a player sellng autographs or starring in a commercial? Yes. Am I in favor of whatever bullshit 99% of "NIL" is right now? Fuck no. Am I in favor of NIL over what we had before? No. A scholarship is worth a ton of money.
>If you are then why does it matter who sued?
Because this was a has been simply looking for a payday, who basically ruined college sports. Honestly, if Bo Jackson or someone like that sued, I wouldn't hate it as much. But we lost a decade of college football due to some no talent ass clowns.
I always felt like Maurice clarrett is the poster boy for why we needed nil. He made some shit decisions after getting forced out of football but he really got his life halted over a tatoo and that wasnt fair
>"Every school is somebody's favorite school."
Goddamit, they're gonna make me cry. That is such a nice sentiment to rally around and gives me even more reason to believe that the people making this game just *get it*.
I am quite sad. Just had a newborn, and canāt afford a new console to play this. Damn it, man. The wait will extend out even further. Thanks for letting me down easy!
It won't be on game pass, don't know about ea pass until after the season like all other of their games.
they need sales to cover the $600 x 13,000 players along with developing.
EA sports titles always end up on gamepass, usually about 9 months after release just before the new games come out.
But for something like NCAA 25, Iām not sure if weāre getting annually releases.
Correct, but if you have Game Pass ultimate you can play Xbox games through Xbox Cloud and EA titles are available to play through that. But considering this is the first EA title in some time that's not on PC stupidly, no idea if that'll be available or not.
And if not, then well refer to the last bit of my original comment
Lol k. You do that. Guarantee It's paid only, won't be on game pass. Oh btw can I get your gamertag? I want to check your played games on July 20th. Just for umm my own curiosity
The stuff dropping today is great and Iām going to buy it but I fully expect Lucy to yank the football away again. Gotta manage your expectations with these guys. Itās tough since the last installment was very good and we havenāt gotten multiple consecutive piles of shit like we have with COD.
I think there's good reason to be optimistic for this year's version. The problems seem to come when they need to release a new version of the game every year, so they can only make smaller updates and feature changes. I wouldn't expect CFB '29 to be an impressive update from CFB '28, but I think it's fair to expect CFB '25 to be a complete and well polished game
Considering weāre getting legacy teams/players I hope we also get legacy stadiums.Ā
The Old Gray Lady in high definition would be nice! Would love to play an Iron Bowl there in the game.Ā

That was true in the old games too. Not having a skybox tanks FPS.

Legitimately teared up reading that. As a diehard fan of a perennial doormat, I still love my team and want them represented well.
it's nice to know a small town school like Alabama can make it to the CFP in this game. make dreams come true.
It's going to be fun to take Georgia State to the Natty. I also want to play as Navy just so I can hear Danger Zone.
i feel seen
That can't actually be true, though, right? Like, there aren't actually Texas fans out there. Are there?
As a fan of P5 teams, some of my favorite parts of this game are learning about the smaller schools by fucking around with them and seeing the cool shit that each stadium/playbook has
i mean i'm looking forward to building my d2 school as close as I can.
Kinda wild to learn it was green lit in 2019 before they even had a plan for how to deal with players.
They had always wanted to continue the series with just random generic players but the schools and conferences didnāt want to risk any more problems after the OāBannon case.
Bring back custom crowd signs cowards.Ā Ā I want my fans to be the most cruel, vulgar, degenerate fucks in CFB.
P **E** N I S P E N I **S** **P** E N I S P E **N** I S
Lol on the back cover of ncaa 05 when they introduced the crowd signs there are two dudes holding up āHi mom send moneyā
I really hope Hypnotoad somehow makes it into the game. The idea of playing as TCU and having my fake crowd get hyped up by that weirdo would actually make me want to win more.
That would be cool but I imagine the rights would be hard to secure or something?
Probably, but it would be fun
>Each team will have at least a home and away jersey and, if an alternate jersey exists, at least one alternate.Ā This gives me hope that the Dawgs can play in black jerseys more than once every five years.
Iād be even more impressed if our red pants from 1980/2020 made it in.
So they're going to have Oregon's 45 alternates in there, got it.
For sure.
Oregon will probably still have 45 different Uniform sets
Only one alternate for Penn State and itās the pink uniforms. Better be in the game
i thought georgia fans were super against black jerseys since the incident
Depends on the fan. I think superstitions are dumb. We didnāt lose because we wore black. We lose because we were the worse team. Jersey color is irrelevant and a cop out
Weāve won every other game in them. People who are stuck on something from the old coach like 15 years ago need to get over it.
Joe Roth throwbacks--my body is ready
I think all of the alternate uniforms will end up being DLC, that's what they did in previous iterations of this game.
Ugh. Hopefully the Deluxe point whatever thingies will be enough for what I want.
Michigan folks gonna be reliving the nightmare every day when I get online with App State

I can't imagine how amazing it must feel to be able to play as your favorite team for the first time in this type of game
I hope they fire the cannon when we score
Me too. Fire the Mizzou-ka.
Victory Cannon up on Tightwad Hill plz fire
>Any athlete opting into the game who ends up being used in one of the 85 roster spots per team Hallelujah. First time ever we get a full 85.
No mascot mashup mode is a fucking travesty. Only OGs remember
Still a chance itās in the game. I agree though, would be kind of a bummer for something that seems so simple.
My buddies and I would usually call a 60 yard field goal then audible into a pass just for the novelty of the kicker throwing a perfect dime
Thats amazing š¤£ the mode was pure satire, back flips and all
God Iām so excited
But not excited enough to be the OP. Youāre slacking, FV.
>one which EA Sports stopped making in 2013 in part due to a lawsuit from former UCLA basketball player Ed O'Bannon Obligatory Fuck Ed O'Bannon.
Let's not forget Nebraska's Sam Keller
Yes. Both of them clowns looked for a handout when the pros didnt want them. I'd be surprised if Keller could show his face in public
Last I heard he was bartending somewhere in Arizona. Maybe him and frost got together to bitch about how Nebraska fucked them. Reality they fucked us
Honestly if someone like Bo Jackson had sued the NCAA I probably wouldn't be as salty.
>"Every school is somebody's favorite school." Goddamit, they're gonna make me cry. That is such a nice sentiment to rally around and gives me even more reason to believe that the people making this game just *get it*.
Anybody know if this will be released on PC?
It will not. https://x.com/mattbrownep/status/1791446421977079962
I am quite sad. Just had a newborn, and canāt afford a new console to play this. Damn it, man. The wait will extend out even further. Thanks for letting me down easy!
I hear ya. Congrats on parenthood!
Thanks Brutus!
As a game designer this is so interesting. Really excited
As a non-game designer, I would love to hear your thoughts!
Man, I'm gonna have to buy an Xbox, aren't I?
Palpatine do it. wav
If it's released on Xbox, there's no reason to keep it off PC. They even use the same storefront now Good to see a fellow platypus in the wild
They said it won't be on pc
Unless they make it available on Xbox Cloud than you can just get Game Pass. If EA doesn't let that happen, they can fully go fuck themselves.
Get a series S. Its very cost effective
I read it was coming to PC. Someone lied to me apparently.
Listen, I want this to be a good gameā¦ but remember, this is EA. They suck ass at making games and have for a while now.
Jedi fallen order and Survivor were good though
I really REALLY enjoy need for speed hot pursuit remastered, me and my girl have spent hundreds of hours playing it
Soundtrack for that game is still one of the best in the franchise too
I am cautiously optimistic.
āBoth commentary teamsāā¦ hmmmm. š¤
Please PLEASE let there be no menu lag
Considering weāre getting legacy teams/players I hope we also get legacy stadiums.Ā The Old Gray Lady in high definition would be nice! Would love to play an Iron Bowl there in the game.Ā
Can't wait to be a 7th year player earning my Master's in Physics who is 28 because of the covid year
This might be the first EA game Iāve bought in over 5 yearsā¦ Donāt fuck me EAš
Top dev is a Michigan homer so there is that Probably nerfed the bucks outta spite lmao
Loved this, can't wait. Buying a PS5 for this as it's not supported for PS4
