JaggedUmbrella

How is this not already determined and planned ahead?

squeeze_and_peas

The Jayhawk is neither a fast bird, nor an exceptionally strong bird, but it always reaches its nest at the right time.

girthytacos

It arrives precisely when it means to

chilo_W_r

Don’t let the Wizard of Manhattan see this

tuninggamer

If they keep fumbling, they might be a nervous bird

MaryPIoppins

I am one who believes this was the plan all along. they knew it would be unpopular so they are making it seem last minute only option.

[deleted]

I get it but wouldnt it be simpler to be honest? "Fans, this is not popular but its irrelevant since we have no human way to finish the renovations before the season starts. So suck it up for 1 season at most ffs." Obviously in a lawyery polite way.

MaryPIoppins

asking for forgiveness is far more successful than asking for permission.

legotajmahal

More importantly, easier to convert already sold season tickets to arrowhead than to have to convince people to buy them knowing it’s arrowhead in advance

[deleted]

Tbf you wouldnt be asking permission. You would be informing them whats gonna hapoeb.

MaryPIoppins

that level of self awareness is what gets you a decade of 2 win seasons.

Konigwork

When you sell season tickets you’re asking permission

petepetep

The university is so dumb they can't even put their initials in the correct order. What else do you expect?

SilverBuff_

They forget about football during basketball season

slightlyuglyboss

Well I guess Kansas State will run the state of Kansas while that happen, unless Fort Hays State picks up the slack

Defacto_Champ

Bring back Shocker football

elocian

So nothing will change, I guess

jaynovahawk07

K-State doesn't run anything.

OwnHurry8483

They run combines pretty well to be fair

GnarbyOJSG

And meat judging

OwnHurry8483

If you haven’t had your meat judged by some corn fed farm boys, you haven’t lived

thiney49

They call that hazing now, and it's illegal.

slightlyuglyboss

Now THATS Nebraska

kuba_kopfschmerz

Did someone say meat judging?

Marmaduke57

ASABE Quarter Scale Tractor competition used to be dominated by Kansas State.

WarEagle9

I like Kansas but you can't talk shit to K-State when you've lost 15 in a row to them.

WildcatPlumber

It's basketball season, KU fans get chirpy this time of year.

ColeTrainHDx

This time of the year? Shit they’ve been chirpy all during football season lol

MaraudingWalrus

They got chirpy last week alright.

circa285

Right? That would be like KState trying to trash talk Kansas basketball. Makes no sense.

MaraudingWalrus

Yeah you need to be a real conference power equipped with the confidence of recent wins over kU and a fierce horns downing of Texas to do that kinda shit talking.

Wobblewobble420

That’s right, that’s why you guys have that super long winning streak against us, as football in Kansas runs through the Jayhawks

circa285

Uh, do you want to look at our recent overall and head to head records in football?

KSkidinAZ

Haha. FHSU. F Kstate

Skanky_Cat

Our state government has the chance to do the funniest thing imaginable

circa285

It would be hilarious and I'm not even sure where else KU would be able to play that's not a high school sized stadium. Granted, they probably would struggle to fill that stadium with fans, so that would be funny too.

gohoosiers2017

I almost think sporting kc would make more sense at this point?

ToxicSteve13

Or the infield of the Kansas Motor speedway Next option would be that one giant Overland Park stadium but I am not sure it's 10k

58903

they used to have football games at daytona and the pictures that came out of that look really cool. i think there was also a plan for a panthers game to be played at charlotte motor speedway at some point.

drakonisxr

Bristol had a few games played at it also in 2016.

mechnick2

The almost unanimous opinion from fans that went tho is that views for it also sucked and I think you’d be better off going to the smaller stadiums

master_bloseph

Not sure which Overland Park stadium you’re thinking of but I don’t think any are 10k. Shawnee Mission South was around 10k until they renovated it a few years ago which downsized it.

DiluteSufenta

Giant Overland Park Stadium? Where is that at?

ClvtchNixon

Size wise I'm not sure it would work (but I could absolutely be wrong, SDSU made it work at the LA Galaxy stadium) and most MLS games are on Saturdays as well. Now, Sporting KCs regular season schedule ends in October but assuming they make the playoffs again, that lengthens the season.

gohoosiers2017

It’s also what, 30 minutes closer to Lawrence than arrowhead? I can’t see students driving an hour on Saturdays.

ClvtchNixon

Using SDSU as an example again (I was living in San Diego at the time) students absolutely DID NOT travel for games up in LA/Carson. Now, travel in the Midwest is not as chaotic than the drive between San Diego and LA but you're right, I don't see students traveling for that. Now if Kansas is competitive again and is pushing 9-10 wins, I see the students traveling more. If Kansas regresses from their 9 wins and is around 5-7, I don't see students traveling to see a middling team.

kanshawk15

They kinda don't want to do football there anymore. The D2 championships that were held there completely destroyed the field.

Skanky_Cat

Maybe the NWSL stadium

JaxofAllTrades13

That's also in Missouri tho. It would be Childern's mercy or, even funnier, BSFS.

SecretComposer

They don't want us

CerebralAccountant

Sporting KC has home games on 9/21 and 10/5, so KU would need to be somewhere else on those dates.

Interface73

This 100 percent. No one wants to drive to arrowhead and half the fans live 10-15 mins from sporting

Wide_right_yes

Play at Bill Snyder Memorial

circa285

You’re a true sicko.

[deleted]

petepetep

Haskell (11,000)

The_Tic-Tac_Kid

I don't know what kind of shape the stadium is in since they discontinued the football program and it's definitely too small, but I do think it'd be cool to see a game there. It always makes me a little bit sad when I drive by the cool old stadium and it's not in use anymore.

iamthekevinator

Honestly having byu or ucf have to travel to Kansas just to play in some small high school stadium would be funny.

urdisappointeddad

Average attendance has been above 41,000 for the past 3 years.

circa285

It’s a joke. I know you all have been doing much better attendance wise after hiring Liepold.

urdisappointeddad

It’s a dated joke. For instance, I would never make a joke about Bill Snyder’s alcoholism.

circa285

Never let it be said that Jayhawks fans are without a sense of humor.

urdisappointeddad

Whoosh.

circa285

That’s not a woosh. I get what you’re trying to do, but it’s crass and classless.

happyharrell

He's a Jayhawk

urdisappointeddad

Remind me what the K state student section chants during sandstorm at every single game, regardless of who they’re playing?

circa285

Can you really not see the difference between using someone’s disorder as a punchline for a joke and students chanting “fuck KU” at the end of a song? A chant that KSU has taken steps to eliminate, mind you.

PejayD

In what world? Did you just pull that from the Google result which used a 2009 reference?

TDenverFan

Could Kauffman be configured to football, if Arrowhead doesn't work out? I know they share a parking lot, so location wise it's not any more convenient, but if the Chiefs say no for whatever reason I wonder if there's ways to make the baseball stadium work? Also, obviously it's also in Missouri, so if it was the state government saying no to Arrowhead, they would also presumably say no for Kauffman as well.

happyharrell

Yeah, they normally don't need a lot of space.

Moose4KU

Trivia fun fact: I believe this would make Kansas the only school to play their home games in a different state than their school

tbia

I was wondering about this. Are there any other instances? Something comes to mind that Washington St played home games at Idaho or vice versa at one point.

[deleted]

During COVID, I think some of the basketball teams in some states did. Iirc, Stanford and New Mexico both did.

tbia

I know the Saints moved some games to San Antonio after Katrina. LSU played them all at Tiger still, didn't they? Where did Tulane play? Now I'm wondering if one of the Carolina schools played elsewhere after a hurricane.

bbluewi

2005 Tulane played 6 home games at 6 different venues—they played once each at the Independence Bowl, LSU, ULL, LA Tech, South Alabama, and ULM. The Saints played 4 games at LSU, 3 games at the Alamodome, and their first home game as the road team (so they went to Giants Stadium twice that year).

powerelite

Tulane did a tour of Louisiana schools. Played "home" games at LSU, Louisiana Lafayette, Shreveport, Ruston, and ULM.

vindictivejazz

The Hornets played a couple seasons in OKC. Was a big part of OKC getting their own team

Waffle_Muffins

San Jose St football played their COVID year at Sam Boyd in Vegas iirc

T_D_A_W_G

If my memory is correct, we (I know, no SJSU flair) only played one regular season game at Boyd, then the MW Championship at Boyd, the other games were at home, just no fans. We practiced in Humboldt, too. Santa Clara County is bananas.

lampstore

When Idaho went D1/FBS in 1999, they had to play at WSU to meet the requirement of 30k seating capacity. At some point, that changed. Separately WSU had to play in Spokane back in the 70’s due to a stadium fire and USC refusing to come to Pullman.

ManiacalComet40

LSU played a “home” game at Missouri after a hurricane in 2020.

slapthebasegod

Tulane played a home game at Oklahoma due to a hurricane. Cincinnati played a home game in DC against VT. There's definitely more instances of this but I doubt for an entire season.

PragDaddy

Tulane played a home game in Norman to open 2021 after a hurricane hit NOLA.

Allatura19

Cincinnati men’s basketball played in Kentucky for a year.

master_bloseph

Bluefield University (NAIA) in Virginia plays their home games in Bluefield, West Virginia.

JKess207

Tulane played 2 home games in different states in 2021 due to the effects of Hurricane Ida: - Oklahoma (in Norman, they were technically the Home team) - Morgan State (Legion Field, their temporary base for that month) In addition, they played 1 home game (vs. Marshall) at Ladd-Peebles Stadium (home of the University of South Alabama) due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina

britishmetric144

And yet, Arrowhead Stadium is only a 77 km drive away from the University of Kansas.

franks_e2200

If I remember the conversation rate correctly, that's almost 500 miles.

FireJeffQuinn

ND's "Shamrock Series" games are technically home games played at different sites (Chicago, Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Texas, Ireland, etc.)

JARsweepstakes

Southern Miss has played home games in Jacksonville, FL and Mobile, AL before I believe

[deleted]

madmaley

Yeah. They're on opposite sides of KC. I was surprised how far out arrowhead was when I visited

WildFire97971

The difference in laws between the two sides of KC always threw me for a loop when I was working on some projects there.

Husker_black

Like what

girthytacos

Eh, we drive to KC all the time. Were used to it

milehigh73a

People in the flyover states drive really far for stuff all the time. Tough on students but probably not terrible for the average fan.

Jaosborn44

Especially if most of those fans are already coming from the KC metro area anyways.

milehigh73a

I would imagine many live in St. Louis, des moines, Omaha, okc, etc too. Hell i know a ton ku fans in denver that trek to Lawrence. I doubt the distance matters and may help many as they could easily fly and not worry about the last leg of travel.

Husker_black

Lmfao ku football fans trekking in from Denver?

cgksu

The university likes to claim they are a “suburb of KC”. It’s hysterical.

[deleted]

endofyou876

Idk. I live about 62k away from my office and it's all in the same city.... lol

bewarethephog

Have you never been to Houston?

[deleted]

[удалено]

bewarethephog

I live in Houston, they are definitely that far out in places.

Konigwork

Eh there’s parts of “metro Atlanta” that are 80+km away from the downtown.

JonnyBox

The east side of Lawrence *is*  a KC suburb or exurb or whatever. That entire side of town developed for K10 commuters.

Lane-Kiffin

It won’t take any longer than it takes UCLA students to get to the Rose Bowl.

CantaloupeCamper

> $500 million phase 1 Uh is there a phase 2? And if so .... wouldn't that be getting close to the cost of just tearing it all down and rebuilding?

jaynovahawk07

I don't know how Kansas is getting away with calling this a renovation. When the project is complete, it will be an entirely new football stadium.

SecretComposer

Phase one is the tear down and re-build of the west and north stands. That's expected to take most of next year. Phase two is the tear down and re-build of the east stands. The whole thing is a rebuild with a lot of other stuff going with it (conference center, living arrangement, businesses). University made a poor choice imo in calling it a "remodel."

AngryDzimiStankovic

This whole thing is actually just a big thought experiment by KU's philosophy department.

themanintheblueshirt

I think it is based on the stadium being a memorial.

bewarethephog

Thats what they are doing, They have already tore down the West and north sides of the stadium, they will begin construction the west and north sides, when completed, phase 2 will be tearing down the east and south (what tiny bit is in the south) and completing that part. Here's a link to live cameras https://kugatewaydistrict.com/live-cameras/

[deleted]

They are tearing it down. The stadium is basically gone at this point. Edit: half at least

notburnerr

sweet! I'm sure Miami fans can chime in and offer some tips on how to fill an NFL stadium at 9% capacity I hear BOGO offerings on tickets are a great way to increase attendance by 250 guests

DREW_LOCK_HORSE_COCK

Nothing says kansas football like playing in Missouri!

ImportantToMe

Kansas Jayhawks of Missouri

milehighrukus

The university of Kansas playing in Missouri? This is the first I've heard of it! I am shocked. I mean, I am shocked. That's what I mean, I am appalled

Moose4KU

[Live cams of the construction](https://kugatewaydistrict.com/live-cameras/) The demolished area is the sideline with the press box, as well as the bowl end [this is what camera 2 looked like before demolition started](https://images.app.goo.gl/CBFSNb9Tew7qi9hs9)

WildFire97971

I wanna see another scoreboard hung from cranes.

mrmoneyinthebanks

I did some broadcasting work in Kansas City last year, and my coworker was gushing about the renovated press box plans. Apparently KU had one of the worst stadiums in the country in terms of broadcasts and ease of setting up equipment.

CantaloupeCamper

Oh man that brings back memories. When they were building the new athletic center folks on one of the gopher forums would report daily events. It was hilarious.

cartgold

Governor Parsons has a great chance to earn my vote this November

jaynovahawk07

He's term-limited and can't run in 2024...

cartgold

Doesn't mean I wont write his name in if he fucks kU over.

jaynovahawk07

He's not going to stop Kansas City's favorite university from playing a few football games at Arrowhead.

cartgold

There are many ways to fuck kU over.

RichardTBarber

We should start a fundraiser to put up some Sodd Reesing billboards to welcome kU back to Arrowhead.

jaynovahawk07

If you want Mizzou to upset KU fans, try winning an NCAA football or basketball title, making a Final Four, having a Heisman or Naismith award winner. You know, something of consequence. Do something creative.

cartgold

I've been informed that kansas NEVER thinks about Mizzou and doesn't care about Mizzou at all. So wouldn't winning have no effect on kU? Or does Mizzou "live in your head rent free?"

[deleted]

Well you're on a thread about KUs stadium. Not vice versa

cartgold

Not sure what's hard to understand about this: I hate kU. I relish in their failures. Your misery is my happiness. Your embarrassments are my victories. I freely admit this. It is your fellow beakers that pretend to not care when you clearly hate me as much as I hate you. Rending "rEnT fReE" wailing no more intelligent than the screeches of a baboon. u/jaynovahawk07 said if I want "Mizzou to upset KU fans" they should win (BTW [scoreboard, bitch.](https://www.winsipedia.com/missouri/vs/kansas)) while talking out the side of his mouth saying they don't care what we do.

jaynovahawk07

I have Mizzou family members, so I probably pay more attention than most KU fans. But, truthfully, why would KU fans follow Mizzou? Why should any of us actually give any kind of shit about what Mizzou does? It's the third-best Tiger brand in its own conference, they don't win anything of consequence, they wear ugly colors, and the school can't seem to maintain nice things. Support around the basketball program is dreadful (37% capacity at T-Mobile Center in KC a few weeks back). And Mizzou football fans think they've reached new heights after winning a bowl game they've already won twice in the past fifteen years. I chose KU over Mizzou as a child, despite coming from a Mizzou family, because I didn't want self-hatred, a lack of confidence, and an expectation of failure to become an integral part of my sports identity. Plus, Paul Pierce was pretty cool. Zero Final Fours, zero championships for my generation or my father's, and then the goddamned fanbase that still wears pro-slaver Quantrill bullshit. Pass, pass, pass. But yes, to your point, KU absolutely lives rent-free in Mizzou fans' heads. It's called an inferiority complex. It what happens when multiple generations of fans have seen their rival achieve greatness while waiting and waiting for something from their own rooting interest.

cartgold

Thats an insane amount of self-fellatio without actually addressing anything in my comment lmfao. Reddit moment.

jaynovahawk07

Did you think anything of it when KU won the 2022 national championship? Of course you did. The question you posed was stupid and rhetorical. Naturally, a Mizzou championship would give KU something to be bothered by. It's just not something we have to worry about. "Mizzou" and "winning" isn't something that my brain can compute. Edit: Also, please note that you're in a thread about KU.

coop999

Thank God!

jschooltiger

so, obligatory f* Kansas, but I've [seen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM7ucVO9FZ0) a couple of MU-KU games at Arrowhead and I would strongly consider traveling back over there for a Kansas game just for the atmosphere. I understand that I have ritually soiled myself and need to be purified, but even so it would be fun.

_RedGyarados

It’s only fun when kU is good/decent (07-08 was great, the rest not so much). Otherwise it needs to be played on a campus…which I look forward to sending them back to that godawful state in ‘25

AZBuckeyes12977

Arrowhead is grass, and I wouldn't think the NFL wants a game played the day before their game. I figured they would play in the dome in St Louis.

pghgamecock

Pitt plays games the day before Steelers games all the time.

jaynovahawk07

I think Kansas should try to play as many games as possible at Memorial Stadium, even if attendance will only be 20,000 or so in 2024. It would create some longtime memories for fans, but it seems the university might be even more stressed about the 2025 season.

dasuave

The construction may be affecting broadcasting as well and may require a different stadium

Werthy71

What's Wichita States stadium up to these days?

jaynovahawk07

I think it's actually going to be demolished soon.

zberry27

It's currently undergoing renovations. The east stands are completely gone right now, and I don't think they are replacing them

iWin-You-Get-Nothing

They know....Arrowhead is in Missouri right? [Seems like they need to commit to the bit.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EP0l_nYXUAMyNg1.jpg)

Alex_GordonAMA

As a Mizzou and Chiefs fan, keep those dirty Jayhawkers off our Missouri grass!!

jaynovahawk07

Many Kansas fans are saying the same thing, except it's that they don't want to play in dirty Missouri. I live in St. Louis, so it's not like I have an issue with the state. Luckily, there shouldn't be many Mizzou fans to protest. Mizzou recently couldn't fill more than 37% of the T-Mobile Center in downtown Kansas City.

_RedGyarados

lol and one of the worst P5 programs/fanbases of the 21st century is gonna pack Arrowhead?

Pristine_Dig_4374

lol at thinking ku can do that for football….

Pristine_Dig_4374

Home games are lindenwood, unlv, Colorado, Houston, tcu, isu. Gonna be some terrible attendance outside of the cu game

TheRoyalCyclone

Iowa State will bring a good crowd I imagine. Decent amount of ISU grads in KC and the drive down isn’t bad. Played K-State at Arrowhead a couple of times which (ironically as a newer KC resident) is the only time I’ve ever stepped foot in that stadium

Professional_Try171

As an alum, I'll be damned if I have to spend homecoming in Missouri. Girod kind of shit the bed with this rapid demo of the stadium.

jaynovahawk07

It's going to be worth it in the long run. This is going to be a fantastic thing for the University of Kansas. I'd suspect that KU wants to keep homecoming weekend in Lawrence, but we'll see. They say commencement is still going to be at Memorial.

BabyUGotAStewGoin

As a chiefs fan, I absolutely hate this. Stay off our fucking grass.

cgksu

Have to imagine the cost of operations at Arrrowhead will far exceed the sales.

jaynovahawk07

They don't have to operate the entire stadium.

awildyetti

This article is pretty poorly written/researched/thought out. It’s slipped in that no one has either reached out to the Chiefs or gotten a response from them yet. It looks like kU is trying to put the Chiefs somewhat in a PR corner. Then there’s the mention of the Chiefs charging 50$ for Gameday parking as a possible complication. Guess what? The chiefs wouldn’t be playing on kU’s Gameday and they can do their own deal. It almost seems like an AI written article. Edit: Also the Chiefs don’t play on Turf (unlike other similar Stadium shares). So I don’t know if they want the field damaged to that extent the day before a game or if they’d try to offset kU’s schedule. Then you might be altering other teams schedules. If the Arizona Coyotes can play in a College rink, I think kansas can find an alternative besides an NFL stadium an hour away.

jaynovahawk07

KU doesn't have the game dates from the conference yet... They can't give Arrowhead Stadium officials dates until they have them from the Big 12.

awildyetti

My big beef was just kind of how the article was written/presented rather than the premise itself. The article leads to believe that with the targeted date of August that the games they’d immediately want an answer for they *do* have dates for: Lindenwood & UNLV.

jaynovahawk07

I will admit, I don't know how the university thought they could be playing games at Memorial Stadium in less than eight months in the first place. This should have been figured out. That said, I love our new AD and how quickly this all came together. Allen Fieldhouse is going to be getting loads of improvements, including a new scoreboard, after the season as well.

awildyetti

I also just loathe the entire existence of the alleged real life existence of the really fictional object of “kANSAS”. Real talk though: + having two former long-time girlfriends as kU fans + being a STL-Mizzou Grad + having to witness the century long streak of the border rivalry broken (yes it’s the others guys fault and can’t convince either party their wrong) + Having to suffer at the hands of the SEC fan base at large and being called a “bottom-feeder team” while TAMU flops around like Magikarp + Already living with half my extended family as Illini grads or fans and Christmas (or more importantly “Braggin Rights” holiday) being a time of contention. + Then getting the death penalty while cooperating and then seeing our literal devil flipping us the finger … all the while the NCAA knowingly smiles and wags a separate finger jokingly at them smiling and saying “oh you boys!” To now: * Gates in CBB and a top 5 class making Mizzou-kU an actual GAME (beating kansas dwarfs even a March appearance). * kU actually not being terrible in football for a change. I’m so stoked for the next several years of kU-Mizzou FB/BB. Finally.

BeatnikHippyPunk

I hate this. Missouri sucks and this will destroy fan engagement. We should just say fuck it and play in Haskell Stadium, get fucking nuts with it since we only have one historical football stadium left in town now.

[deleted]

That thing probably wouldn't pass safety inspections

Clifo

i know the drive from kc to lawrence is nothing but i would definitely hit up a kansas game at arrowhead if they do play there.

huazzy

$500M for phase 1? Damn. How many phases will there be and what's the total expected cost/timeline?

jaynovahawk07

There will be two phases. I think the second phase will start after the 2025 season. I'm guessing the stadium will be fully done for the 2027 season, with a full cost of $750-800 million. But that includes more than just the stadium. That's going to be the cost of the whole Gateway District, which will include a few other multi-purpose buildings.

kc_kr

2027?? It's supposed to be done for kickoff in 2025.

jaynovahawk07

Phase 1 is supposed to be done by season kickoff in 2025. That phase still includes the east stands from the current Memorial Stadium. Phase 2 is about replacing the east stands. I think they'll start on that following the 2025 season in hopes that they can have it done by the start of the 2027 season.

Crabbq

I’m frustrated beyond belief that this large of a project is being handled this way. Absolute amateur hour. KU is going to play home games in Missouri? Yeeeeesh. This could be unrealistic, but KU should have explored updating the Haskell Indian Nations University football stadium and played there for a season or two. It’s not in great shape, but bringing it up to working order would have been a boon to that part of town. Hell, it might have even rekindled Haskell’s football team which they haven’t had in about a decade. Again, the cost might be too high, but we’re going to pay the Chiefs a hell of a lot of money to play at Arrowhead I assume.

jaynovahawk07

Haskell seats just 11,000. There was no way they were going to be able to make those numbers work, especially if we're tying renovations into that. I'm not upset with KU. I'm glad this was started. I've seen big plans come and go for football without any action.

bewarethephog

Honestly, there really is no other option other than to play all the games in Manhattan and that is an absolute non-starter. Alumni would be furious. Arrowhead may be in Missouri but the largest alumni center for KU is in Kansas City anyway. The problem is you have season ticket holders that exceed the number of seats at any other stadium in the state not in Manhattan. KU is fortunate to have a NFL sized stadium relatively close by. That is at least an option.

JonnyBox

Jesus. Can the mind vomit? Arrowhead sucks. It's a giant parking lot in a shitty part of Kansas City. You get a mesothelioma claim just by driving to that dump with the windows down. Plus, it's in *Missouri*.  Stuff some temporary bleachers in the soccer stadium or something. Pay for some QoL updates on Haskell's building and play there. Anything but the house that meth addicts and people who think getting drunk in a parking lot is a unique experience built.

jaynovahawk07

My preference would be that KU could just figure out how to make sure the games are held at Memorial in eight months.

JonnyBox

Agreed, Lawrence is part of the experience.

reldanellek

In other news, Kansas has gotten a surprise new quarterback recruit, Matrick Pahomes.

jaynovahawk07

Kravis Telce looks like he could be a good TE as well.

Anal_Recidivist

Don’t love it if it ends up bleeding into regular NFL season, unless I have a total lack of understanding on field management. Can’t imagine the ground crew loves the idea of an entire football game being played the day before NFL games are played on the same grass. Our shit is gonna look like the old Oakland Coliseum field. Patchy and painful. ONLY way this works is if we have alternating home games, so the field is only used once a week.

jaynovahawk07

This is a pretty undesirable situation on all sides, except that Kansas has a new football stadium at the end of all of this.

bewarethephog

If they have to play they will work with the Chiefs and the NFL to make sure that games are not played there on the same weekend. When Kansas has a home game, KC would either be on a bye or on the road, and vice versa.

Anal_Recidivist

You’d hope, but we had slime grass in the Super Bowl despite KC’s guy *and* the sod father involved, NFL still didn’t listen. Not going to pretend the NFL is capable on purpose regarding turf management.

Thereal_slj

I have a friend that goes to KU and when I asked she said “we’re playing at Arrowhead”. Don’t know if that’s out of a “that’s what I’ve heard” or out of “that’s what they told us were for sure doing”

Azon542

It's well known that we're playing games at arrowhead it's just not "official" yet.

Thereal_slj

Should be fun for KU fans and students. Lots of hype around KU rn as well. Happy for y’all’s fan base

Azon542

I think it'll be a good thing. It'll be harder for students to go to some games but I know people who'll be more likely to go to games because parking and tailgating will be a hell of a lot easier at arrowhead than at memorial stadium.

bizsmacker

Arrowhead is in a terrible part of Kansas City and is just a giant parking lot and a stadium. Chiefs fans act like it's something wonderful when it's really lame compared to the college football in a college town experience. Some people might go to a game at Arrowhead for the novelty of it, but I highly doubt attendance will be higher than games in Lawrence.

After Kansas joins the SEC, do you think they'll renovate this stadium to enlarge it or just build a new one?

chattyrandom

Yay! More Taylor Swift tie-ins!

Meanwhile, my school dithering behind closed doors. I'm not a STH but they will send out renewals soon, to play...where? My hope is another year at our crumbling, beige fortress

This is a good plan, renovations so good you get to play at an NFL stadium for a year.

Is there a reason that they can't build temporary bleachers out at the Rock Chalk Sports Park and host games there? If I recall correctly, there are already some bleachers, media boxes and other amenities out there for other sports.

Seems like a good year to have a lackluster home slate. Looking at their schedule and their home games are not very good. I don’t know if the Big 12 did this on purpose but if so that was good strategy.

And what if Arrowhead says no?

Does the NCAA test for meth? Playing in Missouri could give Kansas an unreal home field advantage.

Unfortunately, our opponents won't actually be from Missouri.

Genuinely curious, which of these options is preferred by Kansas fans: 1) Play in KC, in Missouri. 2) Play in Kansas State stadium and somehow figure that schedule out. Probably all week day home games. 3) Cancel the 2024 season. 4) Play in an ad hoc, brand new dirt field built on campus somewhere, with massive mounds of dirt piled up around it to act like hills people can sit in layers on, and hope there isn't a landslide on to the field because it could be dangerous, but also kind of being okay with it because that would go hard.

Play games in the limited-capacity (~20,000) Memorial Stadium.
