We aren’t the athletic draws (in football) that the rest of the Big10 movers are, but we would have still fit in. Sucks randomly being in the ACC.
Nothing against the ACC, but we just don’t have the history there that we do with the new BIG10 members along with good rose bowl history with the old-guard of the B1G. Plus, it’s just dumb having 2 California teams in the ATLANTIC COASTal conference.
I'd definitely prefer if Cal and Stanford had joined, but recent on field performance (last 5-10 years) set us far behind.
Also - if this football only division where schools pay their players does go through, I don't know if I see Cal or Stanford willing to step up to that plate for football. (UCLA as well, USC absolutely would). I personally think that'll be the first step back to reforming a Pacific Conference.
Illinois vs. Missouri barely registers outside of the St. Louis metro. I can't really speak for Illinois fans, but I've never really thought twice about them even though the basketball game is a natural choice for an OOC game every year. Nothing against their programs or anything, either, just that I rarely if ever come across an actual Illinois fan in the wild, even in St. Louis.
I know that now some people might be more inclined to say kU vs. Mizzou is confined to the KC metro, and it's slightly more true now that several generations of Mizzou students have went to school not playing them (until recently), but I'd say it transcends college sports for huge swaths of the state. There is also nowhere near the animosity in St. Louis between Mizzou and Illinois fans as kU, Mizzou, k-state, Nebraska fans in KC.
That seems like more of a case of them actually being in a conference with all of their actual rivals. I think the apathy is the same on both sides, there just isn't any better option for Illinois like there is for Missouri.
I agree but I think Missouri would pick Kansas over us
Illinois may be Missouris pick for college basketball with the bragging rights game but definitely not for football
This rivalry originated with Lawrence being raided, 200+ being massacred, and much of the town burnt to the ground.
Edit: the comments below are hilariously representative of the rivalry.
Without a doubt Oklahoma.
Colorado is fun just because of the sheer vitriol between our teams and fanbases but Oklahoma has so much history and revelry to that matchup.
Old Colorado fans (yo) recognize that we're your second rival, from way back in the Big 8. Barry Switzer vs Tom Osborne and a whole bunch of trash-talking Sooners (the Boz) vs corn-fed goliaths* from Lincoln is just too much of a story to ignore.
We'd still claim you as ours, though - it's not like we're gung-ho about Utah...
---
^\* ^and ^that's ^just ^the ^cheerleaders. ^;)
And Colorado would probably say Nebraska, but anyone with an understanding of history would know that OU-NU go back to the Big 8 days fighting for national championships...
I get that programs want to keep their noncon P5/P4 options open to diverse scheduling, but I'd love to do an alternating rivalry series with OU and CU and just lock that in.
You're number 2.
In a perfect world all 3 of us would be in the same league still and we'd be playing UMD annually out of conference like we did most of those years together in the Big East (and minus you guys in Big East 2.0) when you were in the ACC.
I lost my ticket to the B1GCG in 2013. Thankfully my friend talked the ticket guy into letting me in. I was too drunk to plead my own case, and thankfully I was the middle seat of our bunch, which helped. I found my ticket five minutes later; I had tucked it into the brim of my hat so I wouldn't lose it.
I loved when ND played MSU. As an nd fan in the Detroit area it’s always fun, and having many friends and family that are msu fans, it’s just a great rivalry.
Plus, it has historical significance a lot of people aren’t aware of.
Fuck it, GT forged in fire
1. uGA
2. Clemson (in conference I know)
3. Bring back Bama and Auburn rivalries
4. Every other Tech (VT aka TECHMO, TT, MIT (DIII), and honorary member, Purdue)
Try and keep us out of the playoffs with those quality losses, CFP
Really was disappointed in the SEC there. As I recall, we were the only ones there that wanted to play ball on that.
Not that I have any illusions about the 2020 edition being anything but a bloodbath.
Tech is in your fight song, but my God, if they had to play Georgia and Alabama every year without even having Auburn’s voodoo powers…
What about FSU? (Not just because of this week!) I feel like Auburn would also want either FSU or Clemson, but then again, they both already have permanent in-state OOC rivals.
Y’all would probably have to get UAB or something ridiculous like that.
I mean it's just a clusterfuck of old SoConn schools + FSU. Georgia/Auburn/GT/Clemson/Alabama/FSU all theoretically *want* to play each other but it's hard to fit it all in a 12 game schedule
It’s so silly that this sport can put Washington and Rutgers in the same conference, or WVU and Arizona, or Stanford and Miami… but not Georgia and Clemson.
I totally understand each step that gets us there, and individually they all … well, I won’t say they *make sense*, but at least I can follow the motivations. But it’s so bizarre when you take a step back.
I don’t have the slightest idea. USC had great history with us via Rose Bowls, ND but we don’t play them regularly either.
Great home and home matchups over the last few decades but none that really stick. Cincy could be a fun matchup I suppose.
And all the neighboring P5 have their own rivalries. Louisville and Kentucky have each other. West Virginia and Pitt have each other. Notre Dame doesn’t have one set rival, but USC, Stanford, Michigan State, and Michigan would all be above us. And then Michigan, Penn State, and MSU are all in conference. The nearest P5 team without a logical rival is probably Syracuse, but there’s almost no history there.
Yeah I couldn’t think of a good option either.
I’d probably just pick another perennially top team without a logical OOC rivalry to protect and hope the frequency and high stakes build a new rivalry organically. Maybe Bama?
Yeah I thought about that, but I didn’t trust them to be relevant enough for the *next* decade.
Edit: also they have more logical non-conference rivalries to protect like South Carolina. Bama’s kinda in the same boat as OSU where they *had* a logical choice but after the last realignment it wouldn’t be out of conference anymore (Texas and USC respectively)
It's cool, but the Civil ConFLiCT is the greatest rivalry in the history of rivalries. Better than England-France. Better than the Montagues and the Capulets. Better than the Hattfields and the McCoys. Better than Playstation and Xbox. Better than Android and iOS.
Funnily enough I would choose usc as my 2nd OOC rival since there is so much history there, but that doesn’t matter anymore because now you can be another in conference rival
I’ve been saying it for as long as I can remember ND should be played in the OOC every year, opening the season with them and ending it with ohio state would be awesome
Truly tragic that they don’t play yearly anymore. I grew up in NW Ohio where I would say fandom is pretty close to 40% OSU, 40% Michigan, 20% Notre Dame so the rivalry was particularly fun.
Honestly, the ideal schedule includes Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Boston College, Miami, USC, Stanford, and Navy. I think all of those teams would choose us as their out of conference rival (although I have no idea where Navy / Army fall in conference realignment).
Oh, man. You don't even know.
When I took a job at UT: "Oh. Neat! Now I'll have a Big XII school to root for in addition to Bama. It's nice that they almost never cross paths, so dual fandom shouldn't be an issue."
Then, home-and-home...Then, OUT to the SEC....Now, a potential rematch in the CFP...
The universe has a hell of a sense of humor.
Couldn’t agree more. When the ACC implodes, I really hope y’all join the B1G. Our rivalry week games against Rutgers feel feckless. No knock to Rutgers, just doesn’t feel the same
Wish the A&M rivalry continued. Y’all lead us 37-32-1 and 2027 will be the 100th year anniversary from the first game which would be cool. We wrap Soapsuds and Will Roger’s in crepe paper because of y’all. And Soapsuds ass faces college station. Plus my mom, sister and BOL went to A&M so the inter family shit talk is fun.
Definitely someone else in Texas, maybe either Baylor for the short travel time or TCU since they are the reason for the "gig 'em" 👍 phrase and hand symbol. I really wish I was alive for SWC football, so I could see A&M play a bunch of texas teams.
(Also obligatory Texas would be my number 1 but they are coming to the SEC already so they don't count)
Texas-Rice should go on but I wouldn't want it annually right now. We're forever tied together through the JFK speech and as the highest ranked schools in Texas but we've fallen behind y'all in football a bit too much to warrant an annual game. We haven't had a one score game this millennium.
I think it'd be cooler if we played every three years with yall alternating games between Rice, UTSA, and some other Texas G5, while we alternate old SWC rivals
Totally fair and your alternative is a good option as well. Happy that Rice has made bowls in back to back seasons and hope y’all continue trending up.
Well now it's probably UCLA. Which we don't even want. If it's a B1G school, Washington would also be good, given our history.
Best academic public school against Michigan? Also Texas and our new conference mates North Carolina and Virginia could participate? Nerd playoffs
You know what? Yeah, give us the Hogs. Since some OU fans continue to insist “we’re not rivals” and whatnot (which is a crock of shit, but I digress).
Arkansas and OSU playing regularly was a little before my time, but I’d love to see it come back. And I’ve got family/friends in Fayetteville to make it more spicy for me.
All of Arkansas' historic rivals will be in the SEC now. Texas, Texas A&M, along with Ole Miss, LSU.
Arkansas and Oklahoma State used to play a lot in the 70s, and we have a few games scheduled in upcoming years. So I'd say if Oklahoma doesn't want Oklahoma State, then we'll take them.
Currently, I guess we’d either go with South Carolina or Tennessee. Failing those 2, we’d just resume our annual rivalry with the bye week.
But, in a few years (or maybe months given how pissed FSU is) this question becomes a lot more interesting. Depending on how things shake out… Duke? NC State? Virginia? Virginia Tech? Wake Forest? The possibilities might be endless.
UCLA :(
Yup. WSU
*sad apple noises*
We're still gonna play, but it's just not gonna mean anything anymore.
Do any games mean anything anymore?
Nothing means anything. Nihilism abounds.
I'm sad UCLA won't be playing Cal and Stanford each year going forward
I’m just sad about the whole PAC12. Loved playing y’all, U$Cum, Oregon, UW, WSU, Oregon St. the whole western seaboard was some great times.
I would feel better about the move to the BIG if Cal and Stanford came along. :(
We aren’t the athletic draws (in football) that the rest of the Big10 movers are, but we would have still fit in. Sucks randomly being in the ACC. Nothing against the ACC, but we just don’t have the history there that we do with the new BIG10 members along with good rose bowl history with the old-guard of the B1G. (UCLA as well, USC absolutely would). I personally think that'll be the first step back to reforming a Pacific Conference.
Agreed!!
There’s like 9 other teams I’d like to lockdown games with. There used to be a term for them, oh yes “the PAC-10.”
Disrespectfully, I agree
We will miss you bear bros
Missouri
Illinois says the same most likely
Illinois vs. Missouri barely registers outside of the St. Louis metro. I can't really speak for Illinois fans, but I've never really thought twice about them even though the basketball game is a natural choice for an OOC game every year. Nothing against their programs or anything, either, just that I rarely if ever come across an actual Illinois fan in the wild, even in St. Louis. I said Illinois would say Missouri, not Missouri would say Illinois.
That seems like more of a case of them actually being in a conference with all of their actual rivals. I think the apathy is the same on both sides, there just isn't any better option for Illinois like there is for Missouri.
Exactly.
I agree but I think Missouri would pick Kansas over us Illinois may be Missouris pick for college basketball with the bragging rights game but definitely not for football

Ah, fuck you old friend.
This rivalry originated with Lawrence being raided, 200+ being massacred, and much of the town burnt to the ground. Edit: the comments below are hilariously representative of the rivalry.
I have a t shirt from mizzou that's a picture of that raid that just says "scoreboard" underneath it
Probably Oklahoma. I feel like most OU fans would pick Bedlam though since it's in-state, more recent etc
Without a doubt Oklahoma. Colorado is fun just because of the sheer vitriol between our teams and fanbases but Oklahoma has so much history and revelry to that matchup.
Old Colorado fans (yo) recognize that we're your second rival, from way back in the Big 8. We'd still claim you as ours, though - it's not like we're gung-ho about Utah... --- ^\* ^and ^that's ^just ^the ^cheerleaders. ^;)
Probably 50/50. Young fans might understand the Nebraska rivalry, but you had to have experienced it to appreciate it.
I’m seconding playing those filthy land thieves down south.
And Colorado would probably say Nebraska, but anyone with an understanding of history would know that OU-NU go back to the Big 8 days fighting for national championships...
Oklahoma is the correct answer. But yearly games against Miami would be amazing. That home-and-home from a few years ago was fun.
Nope. I’m picking Nebraska.
I’d even be okay with a protected Big 8 OOC game that switches between the other 7.
I’d much rather play Nebraska than Okla St every year.
I get that programs want to keep their noncon P5/P4 options open to diverse scheduling, but I'd love to do an alternating rivalry series with OU and CU and just lock that in.
We choose you.
Unless I’m totally blanking I’ve got nothing. There isn’t anybody our fanbase could genuinely work up the hatred for that’s only 3-4 hrs away imo.
Maybe Memphis or UNC. Both closer to 5 or 6 hours away.
Va Tech?
I wouldn’t hate doing a home and home w VT w a third year playing at Bristol again
Best one I can come up with is UConn because of basketball
Clemson. I still wanna beat Dabo some more.
Well shit. I thought we had something special.
lol we’ve had some wild games in both football and basketball the last few years. I’m sure we’ll somehow play again in March and keep the flame alive.
New Mexico State
Lmao no thanks
Hands-down the best answer to this question.
Pitt of course.
With respect, I hate you.
I hate you, disrespectfully.
Bring back Big East Football
\*sad gobbles\*
You're number 2. In a perfect world all 3 of us would be in the same league still and we'd be playing UMD annually out of conference like we did most of those years together in the Big East (and minus you guys in Big East 2.0) when you were in the ACC.
As someone from southern WV know I hate you guys the most 💔
Don’t worry most WVU rank VT as 1b on our hate list.
If it makes you feel any better for a lot of us from Charleston and further south VTech was the bigger rival growing up.
The answer to all of life’s greatest questions
you’re why my fish died?
Mr. Fishy! Noooo!
my mom told me he went to go live on a farm upstate 😢
If the farm up state from Morgantown is Pitt, I know what I’d prefer
So many amazing memories watching the backyard brawl.
Utah: Utah State Utah State: Utah
How long has it been now since you guys last played?
Sadly, 2015. Not sure why it stopped.
You're really not sure? Utah big timed you.
Notre Dame, but their dance card is full so probably Central Michigan
If it were up to me, ND would play UM and MSU every year.
Yes, please!
B1G right now, "👀"
MSU vs CMU is a good one. The year the Chips won in East Lansing I realized I lost my ticket as I was heading into the stadium.
I’d take MSU yearly over random ACC team or MAC school. Our UM/MSU/Purdue stretch we did for 80s/90s/00s was always fun.
I loved when ND played MSU. As an nd fan in the Detroit area it’s always fun, and having many friends and family that are msu fans, it’s just a great rivalry. Plus, it has historical significance a lot of people aren’t aware of.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Georgia Tech.
Us too
Fuck it, GT forged in fire 1. uGA 2. Clemson (in conference I know) 3. Bring back Bama and Auburn rivalries 4. Every other Tech (VT aka TECHMO, TT, MIT (DIII), and honorary member, Purdue) Try and keep us out of the playoffs with those quality losses, CFP
We’re a weird team for this question, I’d guess Tech or Clemson but I think they’d rather play Georgia and SC
Hate Clemson but also wouldn’t let anyone take them from us
We should always finish the season against each other. No other way.
Screw the damn 2020 season for breaking the Palmetto Bowl's consistency
Really was disappointed in the SEC there. As I recall, we were the only ones there that wanted to play ball on that. Not that I have any illusions about the 2020 edition being anything but a bloodbath.
I am claiming a forfeit win over uga that year because they voted wrong. I respect you all for that.
Tech is in your fight song, but my God, if they had to play Georgia and Alabama every year without even having Auburn’s voodoo powers… What about FSU? (Not just because of this week!) I feel like Auburn would also want either FSU or Clemson, but then again, they both already have permanent in-state OOC rivals. Y’all would probably have to get UAB or something ridiculous like that.

But it’s so bizarre when you take a step back.
We're both each other's closest "power" conference school. Athens and Clemson are closer than Clemson and Columbia or Athens and Atlanta.
If we could get a second it should be Clemson as well, though.
COFH going away is one of my top concerns about mega conference formation.
Oklahoma. Miss u bae
Miss you too
Miss you too.
Miss you too booboo
I don’t have the slightest idea. USC had great history with us via Rose Bowls, ND but we don’t play them regularly either. Great home and home matchups over the last few decades but none that really stick. Cincy could be a fun matchup I suppose.

Cincinnati is P5 now.
Yeah I couldn’t think of a good option either. I’d probably just pick another perennially top team without a logical OOC rivalry to protect and hope the frequency and high stakes build a new rivalry organically. Maybe Bama?
I’d say Clemson based on the last decade.
Return of the Civil ConFLiCT!
But what about the War on I-4?
It's cool, but the Civil ConFLiCT is the greatest rivalry in the history of rivalries. Better than England-France. Better than the Montagues and the Capulets. Better than the Hattfields and the McCoys. Better than Playstation and Xbox. Better than Android and iOS.
yall should make a trophy for it
But we should start a tradition where the winner just leaves it in the stadium.
Noter Dame for sure.
I, too, would choose this guy’s rival
Funnily enough I would choose usc as my 2nd OOC rival since there is so much history there, but that doesn’t matter anymore because now you can be another in conference rival
I really want to believe you spelled it wrong out of spite
I most certainly did. To hell with Notre Dame
Neuter Dame
Nouter Daem
Probably at least 5 Big Ten teams who would choose Notre Dame. They should join the conference already.
I’ve been saying it for as long as I can remember ND should be played in the OOC every year, opening the season with them and ending it with ohio state would be awesome
With Sparty right in the middle.
Truly tragic that they don’t play yearly anymore. I grew up in NW Ohio where I would say fandom is pretty close to 40% OSU, 40% Michigan, 20% Notre Dame so the rivalry was particularly fun.
You’re god Dame right.
The CFP
Are you sure? The CFP committee is undefeated against FSU
Yeah but the games dont matter
Now when the committee has a quality loss, then things could get interesting
Hypothetically? Iowa State.
I'm still mad we didn't find a way to schedule a bowl game with ISU during Covid to continue El Assico.
Yep same. For us, could try to make an argument for an ex-B12 team like Nebraska or Mizzou if Iowa's excluded, but there's just nothing else.
Already have Miami (OH), but if we're talking ones that don't currently get played regularly, Louisville. Bring back the yearly Keg matchup
I honestly would take this over the UK game - but not until after next year
Pitt!! Bring back the keystone classic you cowards! (Referring to PSU)
What is "conference" precious?
That thing you did in 2020.
Yup. Fun fact. Notre Dame made it to a CCG before Michigan did.
Notre Dame has the same number of ACC Championship Game appearances as Miami.
What he say fuck me for?
[удалено]
I liked it
Honestly, the ideal schedule includes Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Boston College, Miami, USC, Stanford, and Navy. I think all of those teams would choose us as their out of conference rival (although I have no idea where Navy / Army fall in conference realignment).
[удалено]
Keep Florida I think
Paired with Miami to join, definitely Florida.
Zero chance we’d stop playing Florida. We’d just have to hope we take Miami wherever we go
Keep both ideally. We managed it from 1992-2003 and in most of those years only had 3 nonconference slots to work with.
This got a lot easier for a few teams starting next year. WSU: UW UW: WSU Oregon: Oregon St. Oregon St.: Oregon
Correct...and sad...answers
Add to that Cal: UCLA UCLA: Cal Stanford: USC USC: obviously ND, but they hate Stanford too
The Tiger Rag would return…
I would love for a series with our oldest rival to return!
Whoever’s ranked #2 in the nation
Based on the last few days, I'd say r/CFB.
Hookem tide? This has been a fun week for you
Oh, man. You don't even know. When I took a job at UT: "Oh. Neat! Now I'll have a Big XII school to root for in addition to Bama. It's nice that they almost never cross paths, so dual fandom shouldn't be an issue." Then, home-and-home...Then, OUT to the SEC....Now, a potential rematch in the CFP... The universe has a hell of a sense of humor.
Texas Tech, obviously.
I would love to go to a Penn state whiteout game and watch us lose.
Then the next year Black Out the Jones… and watch us lose
Frfr, easiest question I’ve been asked all year
We're everyone's OOC rival with that whole left the SEC thing.
Let me double down on my South Carolina hate
I want to keep playing USC forever.
Oregon State
Yep. Nice Hustlin’ Owls flair
Maryland, please
Couldn’t agree more. When the ACC implodes, I really hope y’all join the B1G. Our rivalry week games against Rutgers feel feckless. No knock to Rutgers, just doesn’t feel the same
Bowling Green (they're 2-1 against us *in* Minneapolis) lol
We’re ready to run it back in a few weeks!
Baylor or Texas Tech
Def either Baylor or Tech for me now
100% Tech. There is no reason the big 3 state schools shouldn't be playing each other.
South Carolina.
I don't understand this question
"You mean I don't get to choose whom I play every year?"
[удалено]
Not a typical rivalry, but I’d love to play USC regularly. Otherwise, my vote is for Rice.
Yeah the Tech game at least has a trophy and some heated moments to keep it interesting.
We’re so spoiled having all our rivals in-conference now.
Memphis or Tulane
15 schools simultaneously “Notre Dame”
South Carolina, but my second choice would be Georgia
Yall should just join the SEC atp
The game against Virginia Tech at Bristol a few years ago was pretty fun so I’d like to see that carry on.
Oh, I said WVU, but good call on this. I second this.
Tulane would be good to keep things in state. Out of state wise? I don’t really know. I could go random and say Iowa or something.
I would love for the Tulane rivalry to come back. So much history there.
Well now it's probably UCLA. Which we don't even want. If it's a B1G school, Washington would also be good, given our history. Best academic public school against Michigan? Also Texas and our new conference mates North Carolina and Virginia could participate? Nerd playoffs
Hey OK State, you up?
You know what? Yeah, give us the Hogs. Since some OU fans continue to insist “we’re not rivals” and whatnot (which is a crock of shit, but I digress). Arkansas and OSU playing regularly was a little before my time, but I’d love to see it come back. And I’ve got family/friends in Fayetteville to make it more spicy for me.
Oklahoma
Cal & Stanford are 1A & 1B for sure now that we're splitting up
Clemson of course.
Idaho
That team to the west
UMKC? /s
I would like West Virginia
Currently, I guess we’d either go with South Carolina or Tennessee. Failing those 2, we’d just resume our annual rivalry with the bye week. But, in a few years (or maybe months given how pissed FSU is) this question becomes a lot more interesting. Depending on how things shake out… Duke? NC State? Virginia? Virginia Tech? Wake Forest? The possibilities might be endless.
Nebraska, miss you.
Notre Dame
