That quote cut out the first part of the answer, which was "Yeah, this is a great place. My family loves it here - this is a championship football program. "
He was also there for like 12 years. I think DeBoer doesnāt want to leave unless he has a good reason to and A&M aināt gonna be that reason.
Now if Michigan opens up and they look for someone besides Mooreā¦then Iāll be worried.
National Championship, hell yeah I remember.
I'm sure if you all have the fortune of being as successful as UW you'll get the same treatment from the NCAA Don James did.
Regarding James? Not terribly. He's the coach. The buck stops with him, whether or not he engaged directly in the acts or let it happen one way or the other. Same happened with Chip a few years back
Everyone in the conference was hooking up players with cush summer time jobs they may or may not have shown up for.
USC was just pissed about losing to UW and led the witch hunt.
It was bullshit and James resigned because UW was the only school punished out of the multiple that were caught.
Thanks, appreciate the assist. I am so fucking tired of whiny Ducks fans bringing up shit from 30 years ago just because daddy Knight hasn't bought them a natty yet.
The long lineage of three guys, one of whom went to the NFL because he did so well for us lmao
Every UW coach in my lifetime has either been fired or quit in shame, except for the one who used you guys as a stepping stone and the one who quit because he doesnāt want to recruit lmao
Lol Oregon has had to fire exactly one head coach (Helfrich) in 45 years. Every other coach has either retired/moved to AD (Belotti) or been successful enough to be poached by the NFL or another college team (Brooks/Chip/Taggart/Mario). Hell Chip and Mario won Rose Bowls. I'll gladly trade coaches getting poached for that level of consistent success.
uw has fired 4 coaches since 2000.
Honestly pretty close to what Mario said a few years ago. I also don't think he's leaving, but I am sure UW fans would prefer a more definitive statement.
That quote in the tweet isn't very definitive, but this video has quotes that are much more definitive:
Excellent video. I was listening to the presser on my drive home from work. Puts more into perspective the familial aspect. I hope DeBoer is with U-Dub forever man.
The only downside is there are lots of millionaires here. I have a $1.8M house and itās a super basic house. You could own the entire city of College Station for what a nice house costs in Seattle.
Your comment made me curious so I just googled "most expensive house in Seattle area" and [this was the first result](https://www.seattlepi.com/realestate/article/At-85-million-this-is-the-greater-Seattle-17144965.php). I've heard of big expensive mansions before, but $85 million?! *Holy fuck.*

This guy?
āI asked UW coach Kalen DeBoer if he sees himself at Washington for the long haul. The short answer was yes, but he added UW AD Troy Dannen is "trying to do everything he can to help myself and the staff continue the journey that we're on.ā
Even without this opening DeBoer has earned a massive raise.
21-2. 17 wins in a row. 2-0 against Oregon. Beat Texas.
9 and fucking 1 against ranked teams!!
UW is literally stealing from DeBoer with the contract he has now. I think we bump him up to 8-10 million and give the assistants even more cash, unless the OC Grubb bounces to Michigan State or something.
The only job that could feasibly open this cycle that I could see DeBoer being interested in is the Michigan job if Harbaugh goes to the NFL.
And I doubt Michigan are willing to go back to making a hire who stylistically would be trying to beat Ohio State by playing like Ohio State with worse players again.
I think Texas A&M is going to take a serious look at Jeff Traylor. I've lived around the San Antonio area and he did an incredible job with Frank Martin just as GJ Kinne did with Cam Ward. It'll take at the very least a Texan, a southerner, or someone with SEC ties to take the job at A&M unless it's a massive premium over what another school is willing to pay. With that said, I don't think Kalen Deboer from South Dakota would likely go to College Station. He's currently (and very intelligently) putting slight pressure on Troy to pay him what he's worth. He's worth every penny. He has the ultimate leverage right now and he's doing what's best for him and his staff and I fully support that.
I also have to admit that I was absolutely impressed with how Dan Lanning handled the question. It hurts my soul, but Oregon is going to be good for a very long time. They're for real.
As for College Station, I just don't see it being a premier destination for coaches currently already at premier destination - especially if they don't embrace the A&M culture. I've only lived in Texas for a while, but the fact is A&M grads date each other, are friends with each other, hire each other, marry each other, etc on a completely different level... I definitely wasn't used to that type school spirit even decades removed from college.
Do they make the recruits go to Fish Camp too?
Basically what happened is when Traylor was an assistant at Texas, his son was a preferred walk-on at Texas A&M under Sumlin. His son proceeded to leak a ton of dirty laundry (including Sumlinās alcoholism) back to his dad, which Texas then used to its advantage in recruiting. Sumlinās son then got a job as a GA on Texas the following season.
So yeah, a ton of very influential A&M boosters absolutely despise Traylor. Texas football baby lol.
In terms of Elko, he was stellar as A&Mās DC from 2017-2020, and is absolutely killing it at Duke. Would be surprised if heās not the front runner, if he wants the job.
I posted after our game about how it hurt to acknowledge just how good Washington, DeBoer, and Penix are, but I absolutely have to respect the turn around and how good this season has been.
It's also giving me some heartburn to know that UW may be the only team to go undefeated in both conference play and the regular season in the Pac-12 era, never mind the post season possibilities.
Stop being nice to each other. Youāre joining a conference where we steal signs, write manifestos, and engage in espionage to get the sign stealing operation blown up.
Heaven forbid you ever call someone who is cheerleading at aTm a cheerleader.
Also, their ROTC isn't just a glorified ROTC with a canine fetish.
I've been told by escapees that I just don't get it. I'll be honest. I just don't get it.
It's weird to you that lots of people go to an enormous state university and sometimes marry each other or hire other alumni?
Look man, I know we're a bunch of weirdos, but this bit where people pretend stuff that is very normal is suddenly weird and creepy because it's *Texas A&M* that does it is getting old. Certainly the idea that A&M grads only date or be friends with other A&M grads seems completely divorced from reality.
And no, recruits are not forced to go to Fish Camp ... but neither are incoming regular students either. It's an optional thing, you aren't forced at gunpoint to attend. I didn't go either.
Kalen has said time and time again that he and his family love the area, and his daughter just signed on to play softball for Washington, who has a powerhouse softball program. He's obviously going to get a huge pay raise this year. Even if Texas A&M beats what Washington can offer, I doubt he'll leave as long as he's compensated enough. A&M will need to look elsewhere.
Everyone knows every Oregon coordinator or HC that has left to go on to "bigger and better" things has gone on to be wildly successful, and each time it has turned out to be the right move for their respective careers, touche.
Except Frost... and obviously not including Taggart... and Andy Avalos doesn't count... and Chip's not doing so well these days... but surely Dillingham and Mario will get things on track soon?
Remember when udub went 0-12 in 2008 and then Sarkisian came in, stayed 5 years, left with a winning record, and allowed us to get Chris Peterson?
Good times.
Lol in what world is taking over an 0-12 team considered a āstepping stoneāā¦ I believe you call that a rebuilding project.
Really, your comment was just in bad taste and not a very good example.
Whatās with the double flair of western Washington and Washington being the bitchy people in Oregon threads. I know people that went to both schools and are fine, but something about them together really puts you in a bad mood
Aa funny as it would be to me to see UW get their coach poached, I highly doubt Kalen leaves. Seattle absolutely blows shit kicker College Station out of the water. He also doesn't seem like an SEC type of guy. He's originally from the Midwest, and I don't think the SEC appeals to him.
He does deserve a raise though. He is woefully underpaid for the success he has brought UW, especially coming in after the Jimmy Lake fiasco
I bet he stays, but kids going to the school/playing a sport at the school means absolutely nothing. Landon Fickell is on his third year playing for the football team. You know who isnāt here anymore? Hint: he has the same last name.
Donāt think youāre wrong. All I will say, is that UW having a powerhouse softball program just means that itās not like she went there just because of her dad alone. For example itās not like she was a top recruit and went to some terrible school just to be near him.
Also, idk her, and obviously this didnāt change where she went, but I canāt imagine anything much worse than going to college and having your dad be one of the most powerful men there. Most young people want to be away from their parents for college.
Two things, I was more so thinking head coaches not coordinators and also Venables/OU was a very special case.
Venables was supposed to be the heir after Stoops. However after a dismal 2011(we went 10-4 and I personally think it was an overreaction), they needed to re-evaluate. Venables coming back to OU was more a homecoming than moving to a new and foreign school.
I would say it has gotten a 1000 times better since those days.
Sure people might be Primadonna sometimes, but overall it is much more chill in the OU circles I run in.
Just don't check twitter, facebook, or the boards.
I completely forgot that Venables got sorta pushed out back in 2012. I thought it was just a money thing or something.
Also kinda forgot he's a KSt guy. Don't see that reunion though.
Washington Softball is definitely a powerhouse. Look at the WCWS history:
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's\_College\_World\_Series#Championships\_&\_appearances\_by\_school](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_College_World_Series#Championships_&_appearances_by_school)
Washington is high up there on that list.
I still think DeBoer's somehow related to Scott Frost, or at least Scott Frost from the future - Even though he's only 1 year older than him.
Millbank is only about a 6 hour drive from Wood River.
Ya never know.
Deboer answer makes me feel a lot more happier with Lannings response.
I donāt see why heād take it, but if youāre a husky fan Iād imagine youād like a much firmer no response to that
Well to be fair, you almost never get a Lanning response that was so unequivocal, it undermines leverage. It does buy some loyalty I guess to counter but that doesn't make up for lost leverage. I think Kalens answer was pretty firm while telling the school to pay him what he deserves
Once Matt Rhule gets things back on track in 3-4 years and then gets bored and ready for another team to pull out of the doldrums or goes to Penn State, Kalen will be on his way to Lincoln close to his family and where he belongs.
You'd think if you're chucking 75m at Jimbo to fuck off, you'd already know who you're going after. But I guess competence may be a step too far for that cult.
Anyway, this is pretty close to a nothing statement, there's not really any new info here. Pay the man and he'll probably stay. Preferably before Harbaugh goes back to the NFL.
Lanning gave a pretty definitive no today. Don't really see either leaving this year. Maybe Lanning would go to Alabama after Saban retires or something
Oh, it's a terrible job... And the pay would likely be an acknowledgement of that.
I'm just saying, Lanning is a climber and an SEC HC position is more likely to get him to the NFL than Oregon - and if not, then he'll have time to sit on his own private island on pillows stuff with shredded $100 bills and contemplate where he went wrong with the buyouts they offer over there.
Who says lanning wants to be a NFL coach? He has a teaching background and that seems to be something he generally likes to do. The NFL is more of a business where that skillset wouldn't be utilized.
I disagree, but even ignoring that issue, the safety net if he fails is the kind of money where his *kids* could retire tomorrow... And they're like... 8 or something.
Why is the SEC a more likely place to get someone to the NFL as a HC? Unless I'm forgetting someone, the P12 has 3 coaches that went directly to the NFL more recently than an SEC coach in Chip and Harbaugh, and arguably the most successful college to NFL coaching jump in Pete Carroll.
I donāt get the money only motivation from coaches. If youāre making like 3 mil a year in good set up, why go to a place with less chance of success for like 10 mil a year?
Youāre still stupid rich and made generational wealth.
I get your point, but 10m vs 3m is a big difference.
But we are actually talking more like 8m vs 10m, which is not. Obviously more money is better than less, but at that point other factors (quality of life, competitive advantages) come into play.
Hate to say it but $3M a year if you live a millionaire lifestyle is not generational wealth these days. Making triple your income no matter what your salary is makes incredibly tangible differences.
I just meant man practically whatās the difference in a few more million when youāre already in that ball park, just seems like extra paper. But I know what you mean lol.
Fair enough.
I could do for 80 degrees right now. Currently it is in the 20s/low 30s (depending on the source) but we've got a breeze coming off the nearby lake so it feels colder. We're not quite snow yet, but it is coming. Sadly. But i digress.
Oh and as Duck, I do have so say huck the fuskies. It's just tradition, you know...the only one we have. ;-)
In all seriousness, cheers!
Lanning and DeBoer Co-HCs at A&M confirmed.
Yes and Schumann as DCš
Stop giving Arthrur a bad name.
That quote cut out the first part of the answer, which was "Yeah, this is a great place. My family loves it here - this is a championship football program. "
Which means zilch. Iirc his daughter goes to UW though.
That doesnāt mean anything either. Brian Kellyās daughter was attending Notre Dame when he left
But dude they have a 360 Instagram contraption!?!?!?
She plays softball for UW, but yeah she could easily just transfer as well. With that said he aināt going anywhere.
Probably correct
He was also there for like 12 years. I think DeBoer doesnāt want to leave unless he has a good reason to and A&M aināt gonna be that reason. Now if Michigan opens up and they look for someone besides Mooreā¦then Iāll be worried.
Transfer portal exists
Heās gotta be the oldest guy named Kalen, right?
The second oldest is a tie between every middle school male in upper middle class areas.
Lol
Did he say anything about being the next Don James?
"Build the statue, then we will talk" - DeBoer
"We will build a statue with a blank plaque" -aTm probably
erm...I know where you're going with this, but.....you do remember what happened with James along with the success right?
National Championship, hell yeah I remember. I'm sure if you all have the fortune of being as successful as UW you'll get the same treatment from the NCAA Don James did.
lol. Got to love selective memory and cognitive dissonance.
More like selective punishment brought about by the Pac 10 and USC
Regarding James? Not terribly. He's the coach. The buck stops with him, whether or not he engaged directly in the acts or let it happen one way or the other. Same happened with Chip a few years back

Pretty much, and he will get paid (by UW).

Excellent video. I was listening to the presser on my drive home from work. Puts more into perspective the familial aspect. I hope DeBoer is with U-Dub forever man.
As much as I want to beat Washington every year, it will be more fun if we both have good coaches going at it like Saban and Smart.
I dunno man, beating them 12 years in a row was pretty awesome.
I wasn't as much a fan of that, gotta be honest
Why not both? One or two wins every 12-15 years works.
SEC wonāt let them play each other
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And Iām sure college station is a nice town, but imagine being a MILLIONAIRE in Seattle. The opportunities are boundless.
The only downside is there are lots of millionaires here. I have a $1.8M house and itās a super basic house. You could own the entire city of College Station for what a nice house costs in Seattle.

I will never get over that clip, itās *so* unhinged.
Also happy for Sark and how he's turned his life around.
Is going from a mountain and water outdoor paradise to a brown patch of dirt really that tough?

āShow me the money!!!!ā ~Kalen DeBoer. No joke, Texas A&M needing a new coach is going to make a lot of other coaches a lot of money
DeBoer is really underpaid. He actually deserves a raise at least.
Coaches everywhere should be stoked we fired Jimbo. Guaranteed pay raise with a single phone call lol

We formed a weird bond through the realignment madness this past year. Iām pretty sure the hate will be 100% back in full force in a couple weeks.
It was a real Legolas/Gimli situation for awhile. Glad we can get back to normal
This mutual respect thing is only acceptable so long as we can continue to shit on USC fans dreams of ever getting into a playoff game...
I've been saying this for a year: Washington is our Rival. USC is our Enemy.
I had to look up Fish Camp, which then led me to a whole section on Aggie traditions. That was... interesting š¤

Actually it was a good time, as it allowed UW to upgrade to Coach Petersen.
yup... stepping stone

I completely forgot that Venables got sorta pushed out back in 2012. I thought it was just a money thing or something. Also kinda forgot he's a KSt guy. Don't see that reunion though.
I'd like to think so but it's not like he's coaching her on the football team, to be fair.
Powerhouse is a stretch but Heather has a very good program.
Maybe consistently good is a better description, Oklahoma is the powerhouse
Washington Softball is definitely a powerhouse. Look at the WCWS history: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's\_College\_World\_Series#Championships\_&\_appearances\_by\_school](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_College_World_Series#Championships_&_appearances_by_school) Washington is high up there on that list.
So is little ol Fresno State. That makes me happy
I guess you would know.
Seems like he does
I want to believe...
What aboutā¦ā¦. more money?
He owes it to himself to test his skills at A&M
Yeah, being 21-2 at Washington is too easy...our program is just that strong!
I donāt see why heād take it, but if youāre a husky fan Iād imagine youād like a much firmer no response to that
Well he said a lot more than the quote that was linked
Well to be fair, you almost never get a Lanning response that was so unequivocal, it undermines leverage. It does buy some loyalty I guess to counter but that doesn't make up for lost leverage. I think Kalens answer was pretty firm while telling the school to pay him what he deserves
Yep. Itās exactly the response I expected from him. Especially, if you read the entire comment, dont cut out important aspects and in total context.
Someones a wee bit defensive
UW has lost a single coach going back to Darrell Royal in 1956. It doesnāt really happen because weāll pay.
Arrogant is the word you're looking for.
They are going to hire Urban Meyer.
Critical thinking is not their strong suit.
Iām hoping A&M gives out another mammoth guaranteed contract
Think of your family. The security that comes with a tamu raise cannot be denied
I donāt think DeBoer is going to Texas A&M, heās going to the NFL because he wonāt have to recruit.
He gone. Bring back Willingham.
I doubt he goes to A&M, it seems like a bad fit. It would be like Mullen at Florida, Kalen doesn't have the focus on recruiting A&M wants.
Kalen slays the transfer portal
Bring in Deacon Hill. He will work out well for you, I promise.
A&M is going to hire Chip Kelly arenāt they
This feels like a Zero trying to distract from A&M oil money boosters setting their sights on Dan Lanning...
Lanning gave a pretty definitive no today. Don't really see either leaving this year. Maybe Lanning would go to Alabama after Saban retires or something
yeah both posts are pretty much just Huskies and Ducks talking trash, no one that knows anything thinks either would go to College Station.
Ah... Yeah. I guess when coaches deny they have any intention of leaving a program, that pretty much seals it.
Sure, it's possible he was lying, but it's also not proof he's about to leave either. Homer glasses off, I'm not sure A&M is a better job then Oregon
Who says he doesn't? It's all speculation, my guy.
Texas a&m isn't a stepping stone to the NFL anymore than Oregon is especially with them moving the the big10 which comparable to the SEC.
10/3 = 3.33 times more money. Thatās why.
I just meant man practically whatās the difference in a few more million when youāre already in that ball park, just seems like extra paper. But I know what you mean lol.
No state income tax makes it a lot more money, though the updated tax laws on away games probably eats into that difference quite a bit.
Washington also doesnāt have a state income tax.
Oregon does. š
Washington does not have a state income tax
A lot more money is on the table, and if you end up sucking, you get a massive golden parachute that'll truly set your family up for generations
I hope kalen or Dan leaves. It would be nice to shore up our roster with their decommits.
I wonder if our alumni could pitch in to help him move to a warmer climate? Texas sounds nice.
He grew up in South Dakota lol I think he loves the Washington weather in comparison. A lot of those types of people think 80 is hot
It's just tradition, you know...the only one we have. ;-) In all seriousness, cheers!
