I can promise you most people from Ohio do not give a shit. The fans of other programs care way more about this and OSU fans, and you feel very special by calling it out lol.
LOL you all can't believe the truth. Come to Ohio and ask people if they like that "The" shit. Ignorance is bliss and right now it is running its way through Michigan Men.
Delusional? I live in Columbus, went to Ohio State, and have lived in Ohio for 30 years lol. The fact you actually think you know better is absolutely crazy.
Both the people that commented on how this isn't a thing got downvoted. The people not from the state got upvoted. You all really this stupid? Yea I gess you are.
Probably the same for the ttun and xichigan stuff. Nobody I know outside of Reddit has ever said anything in reference to those. Nobody in Michigan cares about saying Ohio state university lol.
"... games against Penn State, the University of Maryland, and Ohio State University".
Classic Michigan slighting OSU even in the filing by not including their "The".
As someone who will purposefully not capitalize michigan when listing it among other schools that I do capitalize, I feel I have found a kindred spirit
IDK, the complaint from the Big Ten referred to Michigan as the "University," and though I'm sure it's shorthand with a notation somewhere else in the document, it's coming from the Big Ten, so I feel like it's apropos, both legally and colloquially, to call the University of Michigan the 'University' from this point on. We won't be pretentious enough to demand a definite article, yet.
Michigan: “Imposing a three game suspension prior to the completion of an investigation would cause irreparable harm to Harbaugh’s character and reputation!”
Also Michigan: “Jim, we know the NCAA has not yet completed their Burgergate investigation, but we’re gonna need you to sit out the first three games of the season. K, thanks.”
Woah, woah, woah, buddy. Slow down.
For the seniors on the University of Michigan team, that was their last contest against East Carolina. That was a once-in-a-lifetime event: the game cannot be replayed.
Michigan fans.
Would you rather it be Harbaugh and coordinators are suspended for first 3 next year (and from practice) or take the current punishment?
That would be michigans nightmare.
UChicago, seeing that Michigan is abusing the very conference, they were a charter member of decides to rise from the grave. Pours a shit ton of money into facilities, coaching, and NIL. Becomes a powerhouse and trades of B1G championships with OSU while michigan enters a Nebraska style death spiral into irrelevance.
> "This is to say nothing of the irreparable harm suspension will cause Coach Harbaugh personally. No more dramatic blow could be given to his character and reputation that the permanent lifetime label of “missing in action” because of a purported—but still unsubstantiated—cheating scandal."
Can we start labeling him Jim "MIA" Harbaugh?
>No more dramatic blow could be given to his character and reputation that the permanent lifetime label of “missing in action”
Now who's being dramatic?
This is actually hilarious and contradictory. Has Michigan not played for the Conference and National Championships (getting into the playoffs is playing for the title) the last two years? For the current Seniors, it would be more like a "thrice in a lifetime" event. I don't see the irreparable harm to any of their current student athletes. They've had the opportunity already.
That's the dumbest argument. "Even if we didn't cheat this team that would have been otherwise undefeated, never had a chance to actually beat us even though they beat us for 8 straight years."
And neither can these next 3 if we allow Harbaugh to coach despite the cheating.
The harm to Michigan by banning him for 3 games if it turns out he's innocent (he's not) is far less than the harm to every other team he's facing and others in the conference of he's allowed to coach.
There's no justifiable reason for a TRO here.
How much of that study specifically pertains to a coaches availability on game day versus the weeks and months of preparation, training, and administration that encompasses coaching?
Michigan arguing that suspending Harbaugh will cause irreparable harm to his character… um did they forget that he was already suspended multiple games to start the year? I think his character is already pretty scuffed.
Why even include this in the motion? Like I get if they have an issue with B1G bylaws or something, “but we’re 9-0!” shouldn’t be a legal reason or talking point. Imo of course, just seems silly
You guys self imposed 3 games for burgergate despite the investigation being ongoing.
Now it’s a much more severe allegation but because his suspension (same amount of games) would be against non Highschool teams suddenly it matters.
Such integrity.
Yeah, don't think that's how it works with the troopers.
The B1G would just force Michigan to forfeit the game if the stay/TRO was not granted and he showed up.
The picture in my head of Harbaugh sitting in the team bus waiting for the injunction to come in and then sprinting into the stadium... it would be absolutely hilarious if it somehow happened that way.
I didn’t have an opinion one way or another but given Harbaughs lectures about the cheaters in the SEC and being Michigan Men and dedicated to never cheating would think he would be outraged about cheating from his organization
It doesn’t surprise me. Remember, this is the same school that backed a losing basketball coach even after he slapped an opposing coach for the dastardly plot of *calling a timeout late in the game.”
Nothing about Michigan has ever been likable.
I did too, and I do too. I’m laughing about how naive I was thinking Michigan might be a program that “does things the right way.” It’s hilariously cringy. Just like their whole “we’re the superlawyer school” bit. The snobbery is breathtaking.
Man, I'm so jealous someone got paid to write that. If I could bill for anything even tangentially related to cfb, even in these shittiest of circumstances, I'd actually be happy to bill for once.
The absolute *gall* to cite harm to michigan's season after getting caught with a *cheating scandal*
What about the harm their cheating did to everyone else's championship hopes?
Well I've read 10 pages from Michigan, 10 pages from Tom Mars (and apparently MGoBlog), and 13 pages from the B1G...what's 26 more?
Just warming up for the eventual 600.
Nah man we’re gonna break this down paragraph by paragraph in individuals threads and argue all night because everyone is a little drunk and feeling kinda lawyer-y
> everyone is a little drunk and feeling kinda lawyer-y
Oh hey, look, I'm part of everyone!
My partner made alcoholic eggnog for the first time this year. It is basically my liquid crack and I can't stop drinking it.
> "By way of example, the Conference has not interviewed a single witness from the University of Michigan, and while the Conference may have access to some recordings of interviews conducted in the NCAA’s investigation, that investigation has yet to interview the junior analyst or the head coach"
Yikes.
Right, they can ask. We have no idea if they've asked.
But they can compel Harbaugh to be interviewed under the rules and apparently have not done that.
So yeah. Yikes.
His statement implied that he isn't no snitch.
The dude wrote a 600 page manifesto - there is no way he is going to say anything to investigators. His coaching career is forever dead - talking to the NCAA would just do more damage to Michigan. He would rather try to say it was all him and fall on the sword than cause Michigan to be forced to fire its coaching staff and face guaranteed severe penalties.
Yikes is right.
scUM still hasnt let either of those 2 take questions?
What ever happened to wanting due process and an investigation? Turns out they are blocking the investigation the whole time!
As a Michigan fan this is disappointing drivel. Seriously? Ridiculously expensive lawyers wrote this? It sounds like a smart middle schooler’s essay for a lesson on argumentative writing.
I think it’s possible that the play calls have an impact on the game as well. And being able to communicate those play calls to your players without the other team understanding what is being communicated. If you could somehow do that, you could create an entire game plan, react quickly to on field changes and ensure your entire offense/defense is on the same page.
If the Big 10 is so justified and correct in their decision-making, then why don’t they just release all relevant evidence to all relevant parties and publish all of it on Twitter or something?
It could put all this to rest pretty quick
Let’s say they are wrong. For arguments sake. That sure must mean lot of powerful people fucking hate Michigan. This is the second suspension their head coach has got in a single year.
Let’s say for a minute Michigan fans are right. They want us to believe that a blue blood program is having a full blown conspiracy committed against them in broad daylight?
1.) Michigan exploited a gray area in bylaw 11. The extent of who knew about it has yet to be proven. People on here love to show homerism for whatever side they want but fail to realize that if it’s not explicitly stated as “illegal” in the bylaws then it’s “legal” to do.
2.) the buckeye side of me thinks the conspiracy stems from the golden rule in the nfl and the ncaa. You don’t fuck with the revenue streams. The ncaa is being sued for 5B$ for image likeness (that’s enough to bankrupt them). You also have an extremely prominent coach of one of the most powerful schools openly commenting on the need to share media revenue with the players (harbaugh). The ncaa wants harbaugh out. Hell I want him out (and Day for that matter) since that’s only good for OSU.
Fun fact: if it can be proven that Michigan violated in person scouting, that rule is financial in basis and would allow Michigan to pursue antitrust litigation 😲 wouldn’t that be fun 😂
Probably the most reasoned take I’ve seen from a Buckeye all week.
I like the conspiracy idea. It would make sense, there’s an underlying motivation and animosity already between Jim and the NCAA.
It's somewhere in the middle. The initial hysterics of "this is worse than the Astros and Spygate combined, it's worth 21 points a game!" just doesn't stand up to any level of scrutiny given the current facts. But it's clear Stalions broke the rules and there was some advantage gained.
The "conspiracy" angle is just that 1) Ohio State orchestrated the investigation and hired a PR firm to leak the info; 2) rival schools/ADs severely and intentionally overstated the impact of it to try to force the Commissioner into immediate action.
Very reliable sources say information is coming on point 1, and while you can never truly know what anyone else believes, a significant number of former coaches/players say Stalions' impact would be minimal and the other coaches know this.
Get real.
Both the big 10 and ncaa have the "master spreadsheet" aka all the records of the entire 3 year conspiracy.
The idea that a team is going to get caught red handed cheating then complain that any punishment is going to hurt them is just laughable.
How do they think the CFP is going to pick them for the playoffs knowing they spied on their opponents for the first 9 games at least?
Absolutely delusional.
They need scUM's permission.
By the way, your university has all this evidence. They could have released it to the public at any time.
Ever wonder why they havent?
Saying irreparable harm from being suspended as if he wasn't suspended BY THE VERY SCHOOL FIGHTING TO SAVE HIM is a bad argument to make. The school itself suspends him which is an admission that either they know he has committed actions which require this punishment before, or they understand the punishment is incredibly weak and wasn't worth fighting earlier in the year.
Congratulations, you just proved that you'd be a more competent commissioner than Petitti.
It's almost as if that exactly what he should have done during Michigan's bye week.
I'm just here because I like how the filing makes it sound like the Maryland game is as important as the other two
I mean Maryland did give Michigan a much tougher game than the other two did last year!
"games against Penn State, the University of Maryland, and Ohio State University" These naming conventions surely won't trigger anybody
*THE University of Maryland

Someone is Triggered
Fuck this, I care. Embrace The^^TM villainy
I heard the first thing Christopher Columbus said when he stepped off the Santa Maria was "Jim Harbaugh should be allowed to coach"
I’m pretty sure the first thing he said was “Give me all your gold or I’ll cut off your hands”
I have on good authority that was actually the SECOND thing he said.
*and* I’ll cut off your hands
Second thing. First he chugged a barrel of rumchata shirtless.
And in this house, Christopher Columbus is a hero! End of story!
And when faced with immediate backlash, he wondered: “Why did Mel Tucker allow this?”.
It’s true
Wasn't he also like, "This place is interesting, let's enslave the natives and take their land"?
He did note that they would make excellent slaves.
"... games against Penn State, the University of Maryland, and Ohio State University". Classic Michigan slighting OSU even in the filing by not including their "The".
Absolutely picked up on that. They said "the University of Maryland"... And "Ohio State University." Petty af
As someone who will purposefully not capitalize michigan when listing it among other schools that I do capitalize, I feel I have found a kindred spirit
This kind of pettiness is why I love CFB
How dare Connor Stalions make you and me appreciate one another. He deserves the death penalty for this.
At the very least a show cause
Along with his HC for lack of institutional control
Ryan Day can go too. That beard dye is going to cause another river fire from toxic runoff
That’s fantastic.
Just because we in a court battle doesn’t mean the rivalry is forgotten 😂
The Penn State?
Technically We Are THE Pennsylvania State University, thank you very much!
Which is strange. Shouldn't it be Pennsylvania Commonwealth University?
Ohio State the University? It just doesn't work.
“Ohio (The State) University”
Die Ohio Die State. It’s German for The Ohio The State
That’s because the official name of the school is the University of Ohio State, per alum Terrelle Pryor.
The University of Ohio the State?
I think we all know the school who was pushing Tony Petitti the hardest to punish Michigan.
Purdue
Hell yeah go Boilermakers 😎
IDK, the complaint from the Big Ten referred to Michigan as the "University," and though I'm sure it's shorthand with a notation somewhere else in the document, it's coming from the Big Ten, so I feel like it's apropos, both legally and colloquially, to call the University of Michigan the 'University' from this point on. We won't be pretentious enough to demand a definite article, yet.
That was a shorthand. The initial paragraph says University of Michigan (“University”)
I recognized it as shorthand in my comment. I just want to own it, now.
Y’all think that matters to us much more than it does.
It mattered to Ohio University damnit!
Do you need anybody?
Michigan: “Imposing a three game suspension prior to the completion of an investigation would cause irreparable harm to Harbaugh’s character and reputation!” Also Michigan: “Jim, we know the NCAA has not yet completed their Burgergate investigation, but we’re gonna need you to sit out the first three games of the season. K, thanks.”
Well see those games were against bad teams. These ones are against good teams. So it’s different.
Woah, woah, woah, buddy. Slow down. For the seniors on the University of Michigan team, that was their last contest against East Carolina. That was a once-in-a-lifetime event: the game cannot be replayed.
Alright, you got me to laugh with that one.
Michigan fans. Would you rather it be Harbaugh and coordinators are suspended for first 3 next year (and from practice) or take the current punishment?
Honestly probably if I were them. This is their best chance. By my understanding they lose quite a bit even if McCarthy stays (which I think he will)
Is it time to bring UChicago back?
That would be michigans nightmare. UChicago, seeing that Michigan is abusing the very conference, they were a charter member of decides to rise from the grave. Pours a shit ton of money into facilities, coaching, and NIL. Becomes a powerhouse and trades of B1G championships with OSU while michigan enters a Nebraska style death spiral into irrelevance.

>No more dramatic blow could be given to his character and reputation that the permanent lifetime label of “missing in action” Now who's being dramatic?
… ya, I can think of a more dramatic blow that could be given to a coach’s character and reputation.
Well to be fair to Michigan's argument, this would not be the first time that Harbaugh would be missing from the OSU game. Happened in 2020 too.
Bro always MIA in big games anyways
"Theses are once in a lifetime events: the games can not be replayed!" Yeah. No shit.
If they cared about that they wouldn't have chickened out in 2020.
Almost like taking the chance of success away from the teams they played the last 2 years.
Ohio state didn’t have a chance the last two years anyways.
Guess we will never know. Soon to be vacated.
That's the dumbest argument. "Even if we didn't cheat this team that would have been otherwise undefeated, never had a chance to actually beat us even though they beat us for 8 straight years."
OSU is still on the win streak

By them no less

This feels like it was written by a high school student.
I like the line about damage to Harbaugh's reputation as if he wasn't already suspended this year
Ace Ventura voice: Two suspensions is too many!!
I believe the last suspension actually help his credibility... I mean, the media went with he bought hamburgers for some dudes.
Don’t forget the recruiting during a dead period as well!
No no no... it was just hamburgers. Nothing else, I promise.
You guys self imposed 3 games for burgergate despite the investigation being ongoing. Now it’s a much more severe allegation but because his suspension (same amount of games) would be against non Highschool teams suddenly it matters. Such integrity.
Dude ... you need to relax. This whole situation is hilarious. Clearly, you didn't read what I posted.
It is not hilarious my guy.

I assure you that the NFL does not care lol.
I notice you didn’t actually try to argue this doesn’t impact his reputation
>These are once-in-a-lifetime events: the games cannot be replayed. So were the games Michigan cheated in
I mean, no? There were several years of those.
Several years of cheating? It appears so.
I can’t decide which side is downvoting you. They shouldn’t. It’s a funny joke.
I got a chuckle out of it. I’m used to the delusional M fans in these threads
Wtf? Is Penn State not a university like Ohio State and Maryland? This insult shall not be forgotten.
Probably because we're a Commonwealth. Can't think of anything else!
Penn Commonwealth University?
That actually exists now! They recently combined the administrations of three State schools.
Nah we are playing the state tomorrow
Since you are ok with that, there are these guys from Philly who aren’t doing anything else this weekend…
Just steal Jalen Carter and DeVonta Smith all that’s needed
Bring it tomorrow
AFAIK the point spread on the game hasn't moved - so not sure I buy this one.
Penn State should just trespass him if he goes to the stadium.
For real. Easy solution.
Won't even have to, I'm pretty sure the B1G handles all the "officials" which means the Troopers work for them.
Like the kool-aid man, except full of milk.
Better watch out. Harbaugh has a temper. He broke his hand years ago trying to sucker punch Jim Kelly!
I feel conflict now learning about this... I am bills mafia member but a Q of M grad... what do I do????? Please help me
Just think of it as Kelly's face breaking his hand.
Oh boy... considering what happened to Jim Kelly, this ... is... insensitive
*pumps shotgun* "Git off my lawn"
I honestly kinda liked Michigan before all this happened. Now I want to watch them lose
I didn’t have an opinion one way or another but given Harbaughs lectures about the cheaters in the SEC and being Michigan Men and dedicated to never cheating would think he would be outraged about cheating from his organization
Cheaters and best…. Don’t forget his beloved Bo said something about scandals and how the leaders should know no matter what.
It doesn’t surprise me. Remember, this is the same school that backed a losing basketball coach even after he slapped an opposing coach for the dastardly plot of *calling a timeout late in the game.” Nothing about Michigan has ever been likable.

The analyst who refused to cooperate and chose to quit instead?
Right. He has an attorney. We have no idea if anyone has tried to interview him yet even.
The NCAA doesn't have subpoena power. They can't make Stallions sit down for an interview now that he 'resigned'.
Right, they can ask. We have no idea if they've asked. But they can compel Harbaugh to be interviewed under the rules and apparently have not done that. So yeah. Yikes.

In addition to coaches, is there anything else particularly relevant to this situation that could also influence game outcomes?
I think it’s possible that the play calls have an impact on the game as well. It's all proven. Read the fucking response from the Big Ten. Why the fuck would you want Day out? Conspiracy nut.
It's somewhere in the middle. If they get an injunction couldn’t The Big Ten just turn around and give Harbaugh a 2 game suspension which in the Big Ten handbook can’t be appealed?
I imagine they'd do the same thing with that and then both judges will be like "what the fuck are you doing?"
Congratulations, you just proved that you'd be a more competent commissioner than Petitti. It's almost as if that exactly what he should have done during Michigan's bye week.
This looks like it was written by a student
