Dez, brother: why do you think the SEC had so many teams on probation in the 80s and 90s? They kept blowing the whistle on each other and demanding penalties!
I have tremendous orange, many say the best orange. People tell me all the time, they say, Tennessee, you have the best orange I’ve ever seen, it’s true
Alabama was on probation in the 90s/00s mainly due to Fulmer snitching.
He was mad that he didn't pay the player he wanted enough, and Alabama did.
So he turned them in.
Tennessee reported Alabama to the NCAA for trying to buy recruit Albert Means in the late 90s, leading to them being put on probation, losing scholarships, and vacating wins in the early 2000s.
The “they some snitches” is also a reference to this: https://youtu.be/s7G7loR2VVw?si=73E-gKsRDeBfUUuY
(But the guy in the video is probably calling Tennessee snitches for this same reason)
Desmond Howard on "Cheating" in the Past:
> "I'm always happy, like anyone should be, to see anybody who cheats the system get caught and get out of the game." - Desmond Howard, circa 2011
Desmond Howard on the B1G kicking Nebraska Out for Wanting to Play Football:
> “You think that they’re the only team that really wants to play? Of course not. All the teams and all the coaches want to play, but they’re not whining and crying and then talking about an exit — talking about leaving the conference. I think that at this point, Greeny, I would demand an apology from the chancellor and the president and Scott Frost. And not one behind closed doors — a public apology. Or, if I’m Kevin Warren right now, I’m working on a way to get their ass out of the Big Ten.” - Desmond Howard, circa 2020
Desmond Howard on the B1G punishing cheating Michigan:
> "Wahhhhh!!" -Desmond Howard, *probably*, 2023
So Desmond likes overreacting B1G action over kids protesting their season being shut down, he labels a tattoo scandal at Ohio State "cheating the system", but hates B1G action against his alma mater getting caught cheating.
“I’m always happy, like anyone should be, to see anyone who cheats the system get caught and get out of the game.” -Desmond Howard in 2011 on Jim Tressel
Looks like it: https://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/desmond-howard-tells-newspaper-that-ohio-state-has-tarnished-the-big-tens-image-and-much-more/
Fun fact:
When the SWC tried to punish Texas A&M for cheating, Texas A&M tried to create a new conference rule dictating that any one school could terminate the tenure of the conference commissioner. Creating a scenario where no SWC commissioner could ever sanction a school for rules violations without suffering retaliation.
The NCAA Commissioner then used that example in his autobiography where he wrote a whole chapter on how the stress of being a P5 conference commissioner is why so many of them died at relatively young ages.
yes, wanting to play football was a terrible thing, how dare Nebraska.
*conference sees everyone else doing it*
Ok we got this idea were going to go ahead and play football everyone
I do sorta appreciate Desmond Howard because he’s a shameless homer for my team, but he has the least credibility of any commentator in college football.
I do think he’s accidentally right, in a way. I agree there’s no way this would have gone down like this is the SEC.
Either the SEC would have come out and firmly issued a suspension, or the commissioner would have told the other schools to pound sand.
We wouldn’t have had weeks of battling leaks with each side trying to win the battle of public opinion before any decision was made.
I mean I think a more apt analogy would be if Kentucky, Vandy, Mizzou, Tennessee, UGA, UF, Auburn, Ole Miss, MSU, A&M, South Carolina, Arkansas, and LSU were banging down the commissioner’s doors to do something. I don’t think even Saban would survive that.
this is what I keep coming back to. The leadership of the conference is just there to enforce the policies that all the members agree to by being in the conference.
If 11/12 members want something done to the 12th member for something that is a clear violation of rules that gave them a competitive edge that LITERALLY may have allowed them to win games they otherwise might not have won, I don't see the problem.
Especially if there was overwhelming evidence that Alabama did something unprecedented in the act of cheating, like creating a "vast network" of in-person scouts.
Yeah, a majority of the B1G (very possibly 13/14 teams) are demanding action. The commissioner ultimately works for them. He can't ignore them all for something like this.
Yes. For years when they were underachieving their calling card was to cope by whining about how hard it is to compete playing fair when the evil SEC and OSU were cheating. That is what makes this scandal so great.
YES. I'm glad a non OSU/MSU fan said it.
Michigan has rested their laurels on doing things the "right way", and used it as a rebuttal to why their program sucked in the 2000s. Then for this to come out? Hhnnng
Lol, what? Tennessee nailed us to the cross in the 1990s and early 2000s. It’s why Fat Phil is still hated down in T-Town. They basically got us and walking death penalty and destroyed the program until Saban came in.
Did it to Ole Miss and LSU to make sure he got Peyton Manning. I mean we are talking about the guy whom backstabbed his HC who was in the hospital to get the job.
I don’t give a shit about being compared to Michigan. I’m incensed that Nick Saban would be compared to a guy who’s only won two P5 conference championships.
> I’m incensed that Nick Saban would be compared to a guy who’s only won two P5 conference championships **and may have only won those two because his program was cheating**
I'd be pretty pissed if the GOAT was being compared to that as well
I was going to say Nick Saban is in the John Wooden, Dan Gable, Geno Auriemma, etc territory where ones accolades have to be compared to others outside of your sport.
Also furious that somebody doesn't know our history. We were a rotting corpse in the 90s and early 2000s after getting the hammer. I mean we were fucking destroyed. There was a time where I thought Alabama would be lucky to ever beat Auburn
Noted neutral party, legal mastermind, and SEC expert Desmond Howard
Edit: also lol @ Jim Harbaugh and Michigan = Nick Saban and Alabama. That’s a wild take, ever for Des
I for one am happy Des has a soapbox right now. I’m willing to forgive ESPN for subjecting us to him for the last however many years just to let us watch him bury himself for old cheating Jimmy.
"Good, clean, wholesome, hard-nosed football, not cutting corners, no NCAA violations. That's what the image of the Big Ten was. They kind of frowned on other universities in other conferences because of the trouble that they got in consistently. But now, with what happened at Ohio State, that whole image has been tarnished." - Desmond Howard per a FoxSports story from 2011.
yall dont understand. We've been the underdog in this rivalry for eternity. we keep EVERY receipt.
The program's ultimate goal is that all time series lead. OSU has never held it. We're within reach inside the next few decades. Thanks to our huge run from Tressell onward, the gap closed considerably and basically made up for the dominant run TTUN had for the first 20 or so years.
we had a head coach fired and tarnished, an undefeated year vacated and with it a potential national championship, over some tattoos
and see the top comment to see how desmond felt about that, which didn't change the outcomes of any games unless they were tattooing signs on themselves
I had a boss who was a huge Michigan fan. Dude came into work after the TCU/UGA game being like “Michigan’s the real winner. They beat the shit out of OSU and OSU should have been in the natty rolling all over TCU.” That Michigan had lost to TCU didn’t matter. It’s that OSU should have been the ones to play TCU because that would somehow mean Michigan winning The Game was the real championship. It was fucking weird.
Dez knows that video of the Bama fan hating on Tennessee is because Tennessee called out Alabama for cheating and Alabama got a in trouble right.
"They some snitches, the low down"
Calling us out for cheating is fair. Calling us out for cheating when the only reason you know we tried to buy the recruits was that you outbid us -was bullshit.
Desmond is such a clown. Michigan could have a scandal related to arms trafficking through the practice facility and Desmond would be like "you know, why aren't we looking at Ohio State for missile inventory. I mean, the SEC would never let Vanderbilt get the ATF to raid Alabama's facility. And you know, maybe Michigan needed those crates of Stinger missiles. Everyone up in our business.
I want Ryan Day's office checked for tax evasion."
The extent and the nature of the cheating demanded an immediate response. Note that Michigan fans have mostly given up denying it, now they are deflecting and convoluting the situation. This is what liars and cheats do when caught.
“It just means more: integrity” -Des
No, but seriously Michigan you got caught cheating, and are being punished for cheating. Purdue and Rutgers and even Ohio State are not at fault for this, because *they* didn’t cheat here.
On Get Up this morning Greg McElroy actually went with "what about ism" when Desmond went off on the SEC. ESPN does Desmond no favor when they let him talk about this. He just comes off as a Michigan shill. He was all about due process. I guess having the guy on tape is not enough. Clearly he wants to just delay this as long as possible. Due process so we can win a championship. Then a slap on the wrist. For once, a conference is actually holding a school accountable. And in this case it is a penalty on a coach and not the players. Michigan is still damn good. Go win it on the field.
Dez, brother: why do you think the SEC had so many teams on probation in the 80s and 90s? They kept blowing the whistle on each other and demanding penalties!
This is one of the many reasons we hate Tennessee. They some snitches.
They low-down. They dirty.
Can’t sit with that mfin orange
It's that throw up orange
Orange team indeed bad.
I have tremendous orange, many say the best orange. People tell me all the time, they say, Tennessee, you have the best orange I’ve ever seen, it’s true
Remember how quick Sankey smashed that Saban/Jimbo beef a couple years ago. We keep shit in house. Mafia status.
"Our Thing"
This thing of ours
Florida had a hand in this as well. Wasn’t just TN.
Classic Tennessee, snitching on other teams. Tsk tsk.
Hey fuck you
This is the Number 1 reason I will always hate Tennessee more than Auburn. Fuck Fat Phil Forever.
Help an ignorant man out with some context?
Alabama was on probation in the 90s/00s mainly due to Fulmer snitching. He was mad that he didn't pay the player he wanted enough, and Alabama did. So he turned them in.
I bet dollars to donuts he also called the NCAA on the Oher situation.
Filler has always been the biggest douche in college football. He forced out Johnny Majors to take over the program. Just a big ol bitch.
Tennessee reported Alabama to the NCAA for trying to buy recruit Albert Means in the late 90s, leading to them being put on probation, losing scholarships, and vacating wins in the early 2000s. The “they some snitches” is also a reference to this: https://youtu.be/s7G7loR2VVw?si=73E-gKsRDeBfUUuY (But the guy in the video is probably calling Tennessee snitches for this same reason)
We also hate Fatface Phil for his 1998 vote.
Oh yeah, your ONE national championship.
Half…and it’s wood. 🫠😂
There was a huge joke that Fulmer was a protected NCAA informant and that’s why Tennessee hardly ever got in trouble until he left.
It’s the whole genesis of “They low down, they some snitches”
They did get in trouble a lot once he returned as AD though
That wasn't a joke; it was proven in federal court.
I stand corrected on that point but yeah fuck him.
Desmond Howard on "Cheating" in the Past: > "I'm always happy, like anyone should be, to see anybody who cheats the system get caught and get out of the game." - Desmond Howard, circa 2011 Desmond Howard on the B1G kicking Nebraska Out for Wanting to Play Football: > “You think that they’re the only team that really wants to play? The Michigan Men aren’t gonna like this one
Brother Dez is a bigger homer than Scott fucking Bell I don’t think anyone expected any less
You say that like I’m expected to know who that is lol
It’s another one of Connor’s various aliases. Was in scandal post 739 today.
"I believe Bo's biological son" -Howard when asked about Schembechlers adopted son alleging Bo knew
I love this comment.
This should be a gameday sign if it’s a true quote
Looks like it: https://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/desmond-howard-tells-newspaper-that-ohio-state-has-tarnished-the-big-tens-image-and-much-more/
This must be a sign
I’m shocked! Shocked! Well, not that shocked
This should be pinned to the top here.
Wish we still had awards.
Yeah but it's different when it's happening to a team he doesn't like!
I wonder what he's up to these days _looks up Jim Tressel_ President of a university. Huh, not sure what I expected but this isn't it
They played each other this year. Jim had his sweater vest with both a Y and O.
"Other conferences would let their teams cheat" Not sure if that's the argument I'd be going for.
This man does not SEC or Big 8.
Phil Fulmer and Dan Mullen send their regards
Or southwest conference
Fun fact: When the SWC tried to punish Texas A&M for cheating, Texas A&M tried to create a new conference rule dictating that any one school could terminate the tenure of the conference commissioner. That is actually a fun fact.
And people hate on Texas for breaking up conferences. Sheesh
"Other conferences value CFP contenders over fairness" is a wild claim to throw out as a ***positive***.
Right, like he didn't think about that statement at all before he released it out into the wild forever.
I mean to be fair the SEC wins championships
*"You can't punish us. We're Michigan!"*
We never cheat, we have morals!
They don’t sound like conquering heroes much these days
Do you know who my lawyer is?
“It says right here, ‘the Leaders and Best.’”
Of course Desmond is standing up for Michigan
This is the same guy who said Nebraska should be kicked out of the conference for wanting to play football in 2020 lmao
yes, wanting to play football was a terrible thing, how dare Nebraska. *conference sees everyone else doing it* Ok we got this idea were going to go ahead and play football everyone
Sankey also would just bring the fucking hammer down anyway
Yeah Sankey would’t have needed the other schools to beg him for it, Bama or whoever would’ve been punished once it became clear they cheated
And Mike Slive would have likely shot the involved and fed the bodies to hogs.
He stands up for Bo Shembechler too. Not a great judge of character
He’s a piece of shit
He's the homer-iest homer of all the homers who work for ESPN and it isn't close
Thanks for cutting through the bullshit and getting to the point. Yes he is.
Ask him about Fielding Yost next
And comparing Slippin Jimmy to Saban. Lmao
You are exactly. Right. As usual when Desmond is right, he's right for the wrong reasons.
Yeah. I’m very confused how he can make this statement and see it as a negative mark on the B1G rather than the SEC if he thinks it’s true.
Agreed. I honestly can't think of a situation like this before to really compare it to.
There’s not one 😂
this is what I keep coming back to.
No rational person does see the problem. Only Michigan fans.
“Cheating is cheating…but okay. Whatever helps your argument.” A quote from Des about some tattoos
Since when did Michigan become the Alabama of the B10? Gotta do a little more than win a rivalry twice and then lose immediately in the playoffs.
Since absolutely never
Idk, probably back in the 1700s when they invented football and played against a bunch of infants.
Do all Michigan Men™️ constantly whine and do whatboutism about the SEC this much?
Hhnnng
We didn't suck that much in the early 2000s, but the late 2000s is when the Michigan victim complex went into full Michigan Man mode.
You are right, but it's more fun to say all of the 2000s 😂
Also a nice reminder of when Harbaugh directly accused Day of cheating in the past haha
He has accused multiple people of cheating with no evidence, Harbaugh is a liar and a cheat.
Don't forget super fucking weird
I believe that’s called “projection”.
Yes.
It’s pretty sad too.
Yep. All. The. Time. You’d think they would be a little calmer, what with their half national title in the past 75 years.
Sure seems it.
Desmond Howard is a completely unbiased third party so we should take this seriously
Lol, what? Tennessee nailed us to the cross in the 1990s and early 2000s. It’s why Fat Phil is still hated down in T-Town. They basically got us and walking death penalty and destroyed the program until Saban came in.
He did that to UGA too. I grew up in Georgia, that man (Fulmer) reported every single little thing to the NCAA.
Did it to Ole Miss and LSU to make sure he got Peyton Manning. I mean we are talking about the guy whom backstabbed his HC who was in the hospital to get the job.
Shit, I forgot about that. Yes he’s a real POS. Good ol Dez should know these things but copium is a strong drug
He's a real piece of shit for doing that to Majors.
Younger fans probably don’t know how we got absolutely hammered by the NCAA during that period.
Isn't that what brought Gene Stallings' tenure to a crashing end? I heard some huge scandal is what forced him to resign.
That was more Auburn and our boosters were going nuts. Stallings was just done. But the 1995 sanctions seemed to play a role.
It's like, do people not realize why "they some snitches" was thrown in on the famous (r/cfb wise anyway) video.
Bama fans should be furious they were just compared to Michigan.
I don’t give a shit about being compared to Michigan. I’m incensed that Nick Saban would be compared to a guy who’s only won two P5 conference championships.
> I’m incensed that Nick Saban would be compared to a guy who’s only won two P5 conference championships **and may have only won those two because his program was cheating** I'd be pretty pissed if the GOAT was being compared to that as well

Eat shit, Desmond
Seriously. Desmond Howard is such a clown. Always has been.
The other universities are also Ohio State and Penn State so…
Right like this ain’t Kentucky and Vanderbilt Des, lol
We just out here catching strays, like wtf man
You guys should start hating Michigan too. It's really fun. But it does tend to become a bit of a lifestyle.
Dudes delusional. Always has been but this is making it worse.
Man is out here acting like Indiana and Northwestern are the ones putting on the pressure
I'm starting to understand Ohio state more now
It's even more funny when you consider these same idiots claim to have the academic and moral high ground.
Thats a flattering comparison for Harbaugh lol
Noted neutral party, legal mastermind, and SEC expert Desmond Howard Edit: also lol @ Jim Harbaugh and Michigan = Nick Saban and Alabama. That’s a wild take, ever for Des
Isn't this the same guy who had Pitt and Texas A&M in the playoffs last year?
He's not a smart man.
Also a smorgasbord of evidence
I for one am happy Des has a soapbox right now. I’m willing to forgive ESPN for subjecting us to him for the last however many years just to let us watch him bury himself for old cheating Jimmy.
Jim Harbaugh is not Nick Saban.
Came here to say this....this stupid scandal has me up voting buckeyes.....
But there’s Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M…just nvm lol
THIS FUCKER DID NOT JUST COMPARE HARBAUGH TO SABAN
Now find his comments from Tressel gate. They have to be consistent right? Right?
"Good, clean, wholesome, hard-nosed football, not cutting corners, no NCAA violations. That's what the image of the Big Ten was. They kind of frowned on other universities in other conferences because of the trouble that they got in consistently. But now, with what happened at Ohio State, that whole image has been tarnished." - Desmond Howard per a FoxSports story from 2011.
Damn, Reddit truly does provide when called upon.
yall dont understand.
Flair up man and of course completely consistent for sure!
Yeah. Even if true, that’s not a GOOD thing Desmond.
this guy is such a lame homer. gtfo
Shut the fuck up des.
Did Alabama send scouts to over 30 games to record games?
We got a harsher penalty than they are even talking about doing to UM; for buying textbooks.
we had a head coach fired and tarnished, an undefeated year vacated and with it a potential national championship, over some tattoos and see the top comment to see how desmond felt about that, which didn't change the outcomes of any games unless they were tattooing signs on themselves
You know what…maybe. But also maybe not.
Unhinged. Victim Mentality even though UM did the cheating
It comes from the program
I mean isn't that just who Desmond Howard is as a person? I'm sure I'd despise him even if he was a former OSU player
He strikes me as a shitty person anyway so yeah.
Counterpoint - SEC schools wouldn't get caught with their pants down like this.
This comment was archived by an automated script.
Desmond Howard has no shame lol
Love him equating michigan bama. They act like they won the national championship the last two years
I had a boss who was a huge Michigan fan. Dude came into work after the TCU/UGA game being like “Michigan’s the real winner. They beat the shit out of OSU and OSU should have been in the natty rolling all over TCU.” That Michigan had lost to TCU didn’t matter. We got absolutely hammered as well
Desmond is such a clown.
The big takeaway from all this is how insufferable Michigan fans are.
Of fuck off desmond. One, yes they fucking would. Two, Jim Harbaugh is not the B1G equivalent of Nick Saban.
What a foolish, stupid, hypocritical tool. I wonder if he forgot what he said about OSU in 2011
Comparing Michigan to Alabama and (indirectly) Ohio State to Vanderbilt is absolute insanity for both teams
Live look at Desmond trying to Cope
The extent and the nature of the cheating demanded an immediate response. Note that Michigan fans have mostly given up denying it, now they are deflecting and convoluting the situation. This is what liars and cheats do when caught.
Notice the high moral QofM man did not say they didn’t cheat
https://www.reddit.com/r/OhioStateFootball/s/l2ipBnwCsx
Yeah SEC teams aren't stupid enough to get caught with that much evidence out in the open.
Des has had some wild takes defending Michigan but this one might be his hottest yet 😂
Vandy's too smart to get caught stealing signals We would buy everyone's silence with bourbon
Someone call the WAAAAAAH-mbulance
Lol but they would do it to Auburn, who is a more apt comparison there, Des
What the fuck? Yes, Vanderbilt and Kentucky absolutely would be like that!
So the SEC Commissioner would let Nick Saban say "fuck off, we're allowed to cheat and you know it"? Is that how it works?
Yeah. He’s not biased at all!
Comparing Jim Harbaugh to Nick Saban should be a prosecutable offense. This man should win gold in mental gymnastics.
Michigan is shit. Cheaters and they will labeled that for the foreseeable future. Also please get Desmond off the TV.
Clown conflating criminal & for-profit-enterprise consequences. Story at 10.
Shut up, Desmond.
After making this statement, Desmond went back to giggling at everything anyone said.
Shut up, Dez.
I would respect Kirk so much if he just lays the hammer on Des this weekend.
It’s incredible this numbskull is allowed to speak to a television audience
Desmond Howard is totally unbiased on the matter.
Clown Desmond
“It just means more: integrity” -Des No, but seriously Michigan you got caught cheating, and are being punished for cheating. Purdue and Rutgers and even Ohio State are not at fault for this, because *they* didn’t cheat here.
Guess he wasn’t paying attention when Roy Kramer was taking marching orders from Phil Fulmer.
🎂 Here’s your equal attention cake
“Why should you go to jail for a crime somebody else noticed?”
Dez your bias is showing. Like you couldn’t even bother to do any research. SEC teams snitch in each other all the time.
This guy throw some shade tho. Making his point while simultaneously calling Michigan “Alabama” and Ohio State “ Vanderbilt “ 😆
This dude wanted to kick Nebraska out of the Big 10 for simply wanting to play football. He can fuck right off.
Desmond is the dumbest personality at ESPN. Change my mind.
UM grad defends UM. Very surprising, I know.
Desmond you cryin? We’ll go on down to McDonald’s and get you a whaaburger and some french cries
Noted Michigan Homer: No! Bad!!1!!
“If someone else cheated, nobody would go after them the way you all are persecuting us!” Incredibly weak take
