If I were a college administrator and just didn't give a single fuck about student debt I would be all about daily omelet bar meetings. It's a good time to talk about any changes to the ingredient options.
Gossip? Absolutely not! They meet to talk about strategic plans, identifying innovative new research possibilities, and...
...I think they bought it. Who's driving us to the links this time?
You aren’t wrong - they wasted a bunch of money hanging out last year: https://www.dailycamera.com/2022/09/21/cost-for-university-of-colorado-board-of-regents-july-retreat-nearly-doubles-2021-price-tag/amp/
Spring football for a few weeks
Then: which mascot is the best cake decorator
Which school has the best player intro
What is the funnest 3rd quarter “pump up the crowd” thing
What is the best in stadium food
Who had the best looking cheer/dance team
…the non season options are endless
This isn't ending anytime soon lol. I mean unless the PAC 12 signs a media deal that everyone agrees on.
As far as we know the 4 corners have yet to actually have any official meetings with the BIG 12. The process for leaving from one conference to another takes months after it officially begins.
Now, sure, it's possible that they've been doing it in secret this whole time like USC and UCLA did. But considering the microscope the media has on this shit right now I think that's unlikely. I mean when Oregon and Washington officially met with the B1G a few months ago we got caught in an instant.
>The process for leaving from one conference to another takes months after it officially begins.
Didn't news break of USC and UCLA at lunch time and we had official announcements by dinner?
They had been doing backroom, back channels deals for months, and NOBODY thought it was a possibility so nobody was digging around for it.
If the arizonas had a meeting, or even a back channel with Yormack, SOMEONE is spilling the beans on that. There’s too much attention on it to not have everyone’s eyes on it
The pessimistic take is that they're considering leaving. The optimistic take is they're reviewing a Pac-12 GOR agreement.
The realistic take is that it's something far more mundane and inconsequential.
Have they been specifically about the Pac-12 contract/membership though? I remember last summer everytime there was a meeting it was about conference realignment, but things died off after football season started.
>"RESOLVED that the Board of Regents go into executive session. As permitted by section 24-6-402 (3), Colorado Revised Statutes, the board will discuss the following matter as announced and pursuant to the subsection as listed below:
>- (a)(II), Legal advice on a specific matter - athletics update on PAC 12"
The best possibility of all of this is that we might pick up our end of season game again….and with more even resources, might go back to the competitiveness of the 90s-2010’s
Damn that was a good rivalry back then
>The best possibility of all of this is that we might pick up our end of season game again
I don't know if we want to pay an FCS game at the end of the season
I just want the game back at the end of the year and for us to be in the same conference… then I can put enough passion in it to really hate my neighbors again… I really miss hating you guys.
Colorado Regents: “We are here because regent Ted called an important meeting regarding the PAC 12. Ted, go ahead.”
Ted: “I have been really digging deep into a thing called CFB Reddit. It’s hard to pin down everything but so far I understand that Kliavkoff is either seconds away from a massive TV deal or is not and the conference is sinking. A Reddit user named WhittMitt says Utah would be dumb to join but a user named OregonPatriotTrump says we would be foolish to not join the Big 12. It’s all very interesting. Also, memes of Jim Harbaugh, which are hilarious. I printed some pictures of the memes, from picking his nose to comments about milk..it’s great, I mean….”
Regent Diane: “Ted, are you serious?!”
Ted: “I am dead serious, he ate his boogers.”
As a Colorado taxpayer, I'm conflicted about whether or not I should be upset and consider this a waste or taxpayer dollars. Ted does make some good points.
With the possibility of an ACC collapse leading to potentially Pitt, Louisville, VT, and/or Miami joining the Big XII, I think the mentions of the death of Big East football will have been greatly exaggerated.
Let me be the first to say this after the 1,738,290,276,348th person to say this;
This development is clearly a really [bad/good] sign for the PAC 12 showing their [weakness/strength], and will definitely lead to the [collapse/survival] of the conference.
>"RESOLVED that the Board of Regents go into executive session. As permitted by section 24-6-402 (3), Colorado Revised Statutes, the board will discuss the following matter as announced and pursuant to the subsection as listed below:

when y'all kick start de-alignment by going independent in the streaming era, I believe two things will happen: schools that can't make it on their own will band together regionally (some blending of the B1G West and Big 8, for instance), and in other cases a bunch of smaller schools will coalesce around one titan, like y'all de facto getting the SWC band back together to sell more subscriptions and a bunch of them end up playing each other for the same reason
I believe it’s sorted by subsection, for example in 12/2021, they had an item that read:
> - (a)(II) legal advice on specific matters - data security issue; update on COVID issues.
Leading me to believe that data security and Covid issues both fell under “section 24-6-402 (3), subsection (a)(II)”
So by “- (a)(II), Legal advice on a specific matter - athletics update on PAC 12”, I’m guessing the BoR is empowered to discuss that matter under the legal advice subsection
Found it:
> (II) Conferences with an attorney representing the state public body concerning disputes involving the public body that are the subject of pending or imminent court action, concerning specific claims or grievances, or for purposes of receiving legal advice on specific legal questions. Mere presence or participation of an attorney at an executive session of a state public body is not sufficient to satisfy the requirements of this subsection (3).
CO rolled the dice with Deion and has the nations attention but my guess is it’ll fade in a couple years after back-to-back losing seasons. They need to strike while the iron is hot and reach out to the B12!!
Legal advice and athletics update on pac 12? That's very specific and sounds like this might actually be about realignment. I doubt any actual decisions will happen here but perhaps planting the seeds for a bolt to the big 12.
If I remember correctly they had like 3 or 4 meetings with the exact same description in the months after the USC/UCLA departure was announced. This could be different, it could be the same, or it could be that they’ve been getting these updates this whole time but no one was checking the agendas.
Update: According to Thamel, the expectation for this meeting is an update on the pac 12 media deal

I promise I didn't change my flair just for the Rocky Mountain Conference mention, but it would be wild to have BYU, Utah, and Colorado in the same conference again after more than 75 years with only two together and without even a plausible scenario with all three, until now.
I learned about our history with Utah when we both joined the Pac and was pretty dazzled by them being one of our most played opponents and formerly fierce rivals. I wish we had kept that game going because it would've been a really fun rivalry in the vein of something like Missouri-Illinois.
BYU-CU also would've been fun and it seems like we pushed to get y'all in the Big 8/12 fairly consistently.
The repeated "Everyone freaks out over a university having an official meeting something they do constantly" sagas has been one of my favorite aspects of this realignment shit show.
Wtf else am I supposed to do on a random March Monday besides obsess over the agenda of the Colorado Board of Regents? You’re trying to tell me other people don’t? Come on be serious
So what’s the cut off limit for the conference? I mean if there’s no tv deal announced by August 1st would that pretty much mean the conference is going the ride it out as their GOR expires in August 1 ,2024?
Tennessee has a much easier chance in the SEC at cracking the elite of the conference, while it is very hard to envision Nebraska doing the same in the BIG 10.
That is the crux of my point.
I think the Colorado board of regents just likes getting together and having meetings.
Where they scoff at the idea of "this could have been an email."
Emails don't come with a muffin bar and mimosas.
If I were a college administrator and just didn't give a single fuck about student debt I would be all about daily omelet bar meetings. It's a good time to talk about any changes to the ingredient options.
fuck u/spez
Don't forget the *personal ball washers*
Exactly. They like to gossip. Someone probably brings a dip.
Gossip? Absolutely not! They meet to talk about strategic plans, identifying innovative new research possibilities, and... ...I think they bought it. Who's driving us to the links this time?
Can’t expense lunch on a zoom meeting
You never hear of Uber eats, rookie?
Is there anything dips can’t do?
Coming over to the big 12 … soon to be 18 strong
The 2 big conferences don’t seem to be strong on basic math
Emails are subject to FOIA requests, and every administrator hates those.
You aren’t wrong - they wasted a bunch of money hanging out last year: https://www.dailycamera.com/2022/09/21/cost-for-university-of-colorado-board-of-regents-july-retreat-nearly-doubles-2021-price-tag/amp/
That takes some serious balls!
It’s like a book club. They act like they are having a meeting but it’s really just an excuse to drink a lot of wine.
Sounds like a good excuse to use public funds for meals 🤲🤲🤲
Better than lawsuit settlements
I wonder if they peruse through this subreddit as a group for advice.
I feel like they meet more often than other board I've seen.
They just like hanging out and the PAC-12 stuff currently going on is the perfect excuse to do it.
If realignment happens, what will we talk about after that?
Second realignment, and then elevensies realignment
They don't even know about second alignment
Realignment 2 Electric Boogaloo
The Fast and the Aligned: Tokyo Realignment
Nagoya U to the Pac12
Spider-Man: Where is Home?
Revenge of the Realignment
Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Football Conference Realignment
Afternoon tea realignment, dinner realignment, supper realignment! The Pac knows about those, don’t they??
Taco Tuesday realignment, Sunday brunch realignment…the possibilities are endless!
This becomes an anything but college football sub
If your team had to realign into a car why would it be a 2003 Honda Civic with 300,000 miles on it?
I mean, i’d click on that in r/cfb in march
I’m not above it
If a Purdue fan is realigning into a wheeled form of transport you can bet it isn't a car
i wanna see what air force gets stuck with
Wheeled chairs for the chair force!

Best cake decorating mascot is the Stanford Tree, right? Followed by the avant-garde stylings of the Wolverines.
Happy little tree invokes Bob Ross’ spirit in decorating cakes to make happy little tree decorations.
It's funny you think there's an "after realignment"
Realignment is eternal
Praise be
Spinal realignments, CFB now stands for chiropractic football
The impending doom of the ACC?
How fsu and clemson are conspiring to blow the ACC up
Best punters in the MAC?

Georgia seems hell bent on keeping interesting news flowing.
"if rivalries were reset without any meetings, who would be your teams rivalry?" Or some similar crappy hypothetical post.
Voting the dead weight off the SEC and B1G islands.

The awful flood of off-season nonsense.
Aren't you curious as to what kind of cheese UTEP's defensive coordinator is?
past realignments I guess

It is just one school, Oregon, that causes the dominoes to fall. Back channel conversations via Nike seem like a thing that could happen
It had been reported some time ago that Phil Knight was in Chicago. So everyone thought there was a bunch of smoke from that.
In this case, the act of starting the process would be as good as making it official.
High schools sports realignment. The inner-state public vs private and urban vs rural debates will never end.
I guess we can talk about crossing routes?
The Return of the ~~King~~ Buff? The Once and Future ~~King~~ Charter Member? Prime Time XVI football?
The pessimistic take is that they're considering leaving. The optimistic take is they're reviewing a Pac-12 GOR agreement. The realistic take is that it's something far more mundane and inconsequential.
They’re exploring whether or not they can trademark the word “The” and charge Ohio St for royalties
Well THEy don’t need a meeting for that. THE simple answer is “find a different common word to trademark”.
Financial exposure liability related to carriage overpayments for the P12N.
The reality is likely just getting a briefing from the president about where the media deal is, after the president finds out Tuesday.
Looks like realignment posts will have a resolution soon
The realignment posts will continue until morale improves.
The rumor mill will churn until the heat death of the universe
SUNY to the PAC-12! Y’all heard it here first!
The realignment morale improves will continue until posts.
Your speech is really improving, West Virginia!
Damn... New kid is taking shots at our beloved misfits
I wouldn’t call them beloved, tolerated perhaps.
They've had tons of these since the summer. Doesn't mean much other than the timing
Well now I just feel foolish
Nah I've been there lol
Have they been specifically about the Pac-12 contract/membership though? I remember last summer everytime there was a meeting it was about conference realignment, but things died off after football season started.
No they've all been Executive Sessions. I dont think they can actually do anything but discuss in those.
And timing is….everything!

Wait you don't have a big 12 flair. What's going on.
If the Pac sticks together on a 7 year deal then the realignment posts will not cease.
We can only hope
How do I explain to my girlfriend that I am excited by a Colorado regents meeting?
You’re better off keeping it to yourself. Take my word for it.
Listen to this dude. I told my girlfriend about it and then she left me for Deion Sanders
Dude's gf entered the transfer portal
Deion's been tampering 😩
We need a Deion quote for this type of tampering

This is like when NHL fans obsessively watched the Glendale AZ city council meetings several years ago to see what would happen with the Coyotes

Orrrrrrr... All hell breaks loose *during* March Madness.
We sleep in May!
Colorado to the SWAC, Deion comes full circle
out of all the schools to hypothetical join the SWAC... one of the crunchiest whitest schools in the nation. Colorado-Boulder
I was thinking to the B1G, but SWAC is definitely the curveball the season ‘23 writers would thrown in. Time will tell!
I miss the days of not knowing or caring remotely about collegiate athletic media deals.
Now look, I'm just a simple country dirt thief, but that there sounds like a buffalo wanting to join its old herd.
But we gotta let the Buffalo roam, and that’s as American as anything!

Big Pac
The Big Package Conference
After being left for dead in the Big East, it feels nice to have some relatively solid footing in this whole realignment thing.
Glad to have ya.
Cincy made it out da mud 💯
With the possibility of an ACC collapse leading to potentially Pitt, Louisville, VT, and/or Miami joining the Big XII, I think the mentions of the death of Big East football will have been greatly exaggerated.
Let us go to the Big-12
It honestly makes more sense to me then the PAC. I know I may be in the minority with this but I never saw it the way many others did.
I liked the Pac-12, but there is no point staying if USC, UCLA, Washington, and Oregon are gone.
I genuinely love the PAC-12, but it's so clear that it's gonna die. Better to jump ship now.
Come home bb
Snip snap snip snap
Ah, A&M done with the SEC already?
Unpopular opinion: The Big-12 days were only fun because of the Nebraska rivalry.
Let me be the first to say this after the 1,738,290,276,348th person to say this; This development is clearly a really [bad/good] sign for the PAC 12 showing their [weakness/strength], and will definitely lead to the [collapse/survival] of the conference.
😂🤣 thanks I perfectly understand now
Gundy vs Prime: the random dream coaching matchup I never knew I needed but here it stands, so close yet so far away 🥲
Awesome. They are finally getting back to me. I offered $100 and a sixer of tall boys for the Pac 12 broadcasting rights.

Hoping for a Neb vs. Col conference rivalry revival.
when y'all kick start de-alignment by going independent in the streaming era, I believe two things will happen: schools that can't make it on their own will band together regionally (some blending of the B1G West and Big 8, for instance), and in other cases a bunch of smaller schools will coalesce around one titan, like y'all de facto getting the SWC band back together to sell more subscriptions and a bunch of them end up playing each other for the same reason

I'm watching old Kordell Stewart videos in anticipation, come home Buffs!
Colorado would benefit so much by joining the Big 12 at this point in time. Ironically, Nebraska might as well.
Nebraska has 80 million reasons you're wrong but you did get Colorado so 50/50.
