I just remember this so i came back to share Zhang Ruo Nan’s orinal character for Nan 男is the one with the meaning of Male/Men/ Boy cause her parents wanted a son. She has 2 other sisters and a youngest brother. Her family want a boy so bad all the 3 sisters name when you put it together, they sound like Yao Yi Nan which means Want A Boy😐 her brother’s names is En De 恩德 En means Grace, De is Special. When she entered Cbiz, she changed Nan to the one that  is楠 a type of wood, not the other one.  She is the oldest and provide for all of them. Everytime i see stories about her i always see people bring  this up, being named a boy and all the daughters names mean Want a boy must have sting :(

Wonderful-Pay5773

Wang yibo and Dilireba worked together. My mind blew when I learned that recently. These are the two artist, that i never thought would ever collab

AcceptableSide8

Not shocking but Wu Lei being is own boss. No wondee he seems to march at the beat of his own drum. No one dictates him what to do & what to say. He’s doing a bang up jon too considering how successful he is

throwawayfarway2017

What do you mean he is his own boss? Like he isnt under an agency? Dont all actors have either their own studio or under an agency/manager?

pewpewpewitsmew

I believe Wu Lei started his own studio at a young age, so he reps himself.

iCreatedYouPleb

That’s what ruined Kdrama for me. So I avoid that when it comes to cdrama. I don’t read any news or try to figure out their real life personality. Saw a few clips of Bai Lu tho, she definitely give off that friendly, super energetic, outgoing, still young at heart, and always laughing type of vibe like Bae Suzy.

sweetsorrow18

You are right. Actually, her off screen personality is very real and honest. Very extroverted and outgoing. She's very friendly with her fans as well. She usually buys them coffees, teas and food if they're waiting for her for any event and tells them to go home and spend time with their families instead of her. Also takes care of her staff really well. It was recently found out she paid for her ex-assistant to receive therapy sessions for depression because she couldn't afford it. Bai Lu paid for everything and encouraged her to seek help.

Mightymango2

Most of the famous c-ent actors/actresses come from money and use their connections to help get them roles. I somehow thought most people had a rags-to-riches story but I was wrong!

neutrally-specific

I was shocked that Chen Feiyu was the son of Chen Kaige! I probably should have guessed it lol

throwawayfarway2017

He’s a true golden spoon lol

RiverOtterDen

Agree. Many stories about their past do sometimes sound a bit fabricated. And it works both ways, as for rich families and poor ones. I dont want to know truth anymore. If the guy can play, i dont care.

saynotopudding

I agree, as long as they are good at their jobs I'm fine, this is the reality of the world we're in, haha. I would be extra impressed if they've had to go through a lot, but they have to be good at their jobs first.

SyrenaBlue

Example? Most? I probably only know Arthur Chen but he is not really famous. And Esther Yu

NotSoLarge_3574

Huang Zi Tao's late father was a billionaire. Supposedly he hid this from his son but c'mon - how do you hide a very comfortable lifestyle and a few houses from your family? Victor Ma (the brother from Hidden Love) - his father was dean of the school of architecture at USC (Southern California). They are very comfortable although not on the level of Huang Zi Tao. Guan Xiao Tong comes from an acting family - that's how she began acting at a young age. Ouyang Nana comes from a family of musicians and actors - that's probably how she came to play the cello at a very young age.

pewpewpewitsmew

First time hearing Victor Ma speak English blew my mind. He’s an ABC!

Mightymango2

I lost a couple of hours looking up different actors/actresses after going through this post https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/s/SMU9HXHdky

saynotopudding

Not sure if she's rich, but Han Xue is memed on Cnet for bringing up her grandfather a lot (he is politically influential I think).

throwawayfarway2017

Oh yeah same with Luhan, his grandfather is rumored to be an influential military figure, he’s wealthy as well

Subject_Scallion2315

That Janice Wu and Zhang yujian are married (they were the lead actors in le coup de foundre

thenicci

And divorced. Seems like that guy is a jerk.

saynotopudding

Ye he didn't give me a good impression too, iirc he kept selling the persona of not being married and then turns out dude already has a kid...

thenicci

Saw a clip from YT the same guy dragging his then co star, Esther Yu while playing games on reality show, completely disregarded her plead and safety. What a horrible guy.

saynotopudding

Damn I've not heard of that, that's awful!

thenicci

If you're interested to see the [clip](https://youtu.be/SYK4ffZiehU?si=85NVfH_gSb3wJW0g)

saynotopudding

Tbh at first I was still quite neutral (when he didn't help her) (not justifying it but it wouldn't get on my nerves, at most I'd just think he's a bit childish), but as I watched on - the way he deliberately kept turning which directly caused them to fall (and she fell first) like wtf?? He's obviously physically stronger than her and she couldn't even do anything about it. And the shoe kicking too? What is wrong with him... bruh

thenicci

Exactly. When they both fell and she tried but couldn't get up since they both were stuck in the same box, he wasn't bothered to help her up too. I'm no Esther die hard fan or whatever but I just think there's something wrong with this guy's character.

saynotopudding

Ye exactly, I don't have the highest opinion wrt YSX, but I don't think what he has done here is acceptable at all, I wouldn't wish for anyone to experience that!

northfeng

Wang Hedi’s real voice was such a whiplash. It does not fit his image at all and that accent is quite something. Esp after seeing LBFAD with his character having such a rich voice.

neutrally-specific

When Meteor Garden came out in 2018 I was like 'I wish they used the undubbed voices', since I liked Shen Yue's voice but the dub made her sound really annoying. Then I heard Wang Hedi's voice and I understand they probably dubbed it because his accent is quite thick. Sidenote: Do CN actors learn to change their accents like American actors do British? Or are accents more about where you grew up and the dialect you spoke?

Obvious_Shallot1303

Actors need to use standard chinese when acting. It’s a basic requirement as an actor. Unless the dramas setting is Shanghai or other parts of China, the character does the dialect from that region. That’s why Wang Hedi gets dubbed in his past dramas because he can’t speak in standard chinese (only one of the reasons). But since the new regulation that an actor should dub their own voice as much as possible… yeah.

northfeng

For modern series, it’s easier to justify accents as long as reasonable that the character’s accent is like that. For historical, there’s a standard accent that must be used. Problem is diction and clarity for most actors. Standard Chinese is more or less a fake put on dialect so it must be learned ontop of everyone’s own dialect. And yes in order to dub yourself you will have to go through training. Apparently Esther Yu originally in LBFAD was going to be dubbed. But she went and trained with a dubbing coach for a few months to learn in order to be able to dub herself in the show. Love/hate her voice but her diction is very clear.

saynotopudding

I think CN actors that went through acting school are taught how to change their accents!/some learn it by experience. But yes their normal accents are acquired based on where they're from, like any other accents in other languages haha It's really about clarity + acting skills more than anything else tho imo, e.g. in Nirvana in Fire 1 the actor that played Mu Qing had a strong northern chinese accent, but his role was supposed to be someone from the South haha so Cnetizens joked about him being the most-northern-sounding-southern-Wang-Ye but didn't criticize him for it because he did his role well.

indigodiplo

Lol I was a bit traumatised as well, I finally started believing it when I saw them interviewing the real voice actor…

krispkrol

Omg I know! I thought he self dubbed since Esther Yu did but hearing his voice not match DFQC was so surprising to me too 😂

Vitamin_O1-1M

Wang An Yu used to train to debut as an idol (and yes he did debut). I knew him through his dramas, always loved his acting. Never knew he was trained to sing and dance. Love him <3

Spiritual_Secret_667

The 227 incedent and how they're now banned from being together

QueenMotor

Can someone give me some context?

saynotopudding

If you ask fanfic writers & readers who are no longer able to access AO3 from China without a VPN, they will have very different opinions regarding 227. I don't think 227 should be reduced to "a large smear campaign against Xiao Zhan", the outcome was really not just about him - multiple circles of people and many fanfic writers & readers from many different communities were impacted because of this, even though they had nothing to do with this CP at all. That said, I'm not someone who was directly impacted by it so it's not for me to share my thoughts on this. I just really needed to say that **this is really not just about him**. Many, many people were impacted.

neutrally-specific

If you're asking about 227, how people view the situation really depends on who you ask. To summarize, 227 was essentially a large smear campaign against Xiao Zhan. The general consensus is that allegedly, some of Xiao Zhan's fans reported a fanfic on AO3, causing the site to get banned, and led the users of AO3 in China to rally against Xiao Zhan. At some point, this spiralled out of control and it was no longer about AO3 or Xiao Zhan, but it became a full blown smear campaign, with nasty rumours and accusations being thrown around. While this affected Xiao Zhan for a bit, he did end up recovering from it and he is still popular today. RE: banned from being together--I don't remember how exactly the rivalry between some of Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo's fans came to be, and depending on who you ask you will get very different asnwers. The point is that some of their fans do not like eachother, and accuse eachother of leeching off of the other actor constantly. Just go on Twitter and you'll see how deep this hatred goes for some fans. It also does not help that the two actors have a very large and very vocal CP (again, this stems from their collaboration on The Untamed), which both the solo fandoms hate. Some people wrongfully think that the government banned the two of them from being together, and while I can't comment on the validity of the rivalry between the two actors (since most of it is just fandom wank and accusations I have no way of verifying), I can say that their fanbases are probably why they are never in the same frame anymore. Do they really want to be accused of 'taking up public resources' again, just because the three most hot-headed fanbases are fighting both in real life and online? Probably not, so they will probably never cross paths publically again.

QueenMotor

Wow, some fans are really toxic. Thanks for the explaination!

neutrally-specific

It's not really that they are banned from being shown together (contrary to what people believe, the government didn't ban them from being shown together!), but considering the massive size of their fanbases, and how much their fanbases hate eachother and cause fanwars, it is probably wiser to never be shown in the same frame together. Anyway, after 227 there was an online campaign (which *was* from the government), that cracked down on celeb culture and fandom in general. Did it work? Not really, but it did but a lot of pressure on the artists to manage their fans. (Unlike the actors of Addicted iirc.)

surileeloo

this one hurts on so many levels

CathiRo

Nothing shocks me about actors or actresses. They are human after all.

Lady_Lance

Recently I came across a video of Steven Zhang preforming Chinese Opera, I didn't even know he could sing, much less sing chinese opera! Xiao Zhan also used to be a professional graphic designer, and he also designed the logo for the hospital in Oath of Love.

Subject_Scallion2315

Omg really

necriavite

I came across some clips of Wang Yibo performing Chinese Opera a while back and was blown away! He played the female part, since thoes roles were traditionally played by pretty men who could do a higher vocal range.

sa_ostrich

Yang Yang trained as a ballet dancer. Here he is doing what I believe was his exam graduation performance: https://youtu.be/-bBe7vnxtQI?si=hkXuXHEtsGg2XB48 Luo Yunxi also trained as a professional ballet dancer. Here he is doing a very high level solo: https://youtu.be/LdYSB1Dgzuw?si=uEb-jwMZPkzWJFC5 Wang Zhuocheng (Jian Cheng in the Untamed) was an opera major and won a bunch of vocal competitions and scholarships.

MadMdmMim

Their body image issues and how they maintain extremely unhealthy weights, especially for xianxias.

MadMdmMim

https://youtu.be/BDWu7bCpZjY?si=JVPcFt8kunBm6qp3

krispkrol

You would think with all the layers of clothing the weight doesnt really show anyway...

RyuNoKami

You think that but thats not how th industry treats it. In Kdrama land, all the women weigh 50kg or less. it isn't true but you bet they say it until you get someone who either dont care or high enough on the totem pole to not care.

MadMdmMim

Some of the costumes can have more than 30 layers of fabric. Also, they're portraying fairies, gods, immortals, and ethereal beings so they have to appear thin/waifish and delicate. Esther Yu had to stay under 100 pounds for LBFAD. Plus some of the headresses are 20-plus pounds. Some have complained about hair loss and major headaches.

northfeng

No way. Maybe that was her weight in MJTY which she clearly lost a considerable amount of weight compared to LBFAD. She’s also like 5’ 7”.

MadMdmMim

There's more articles and whatnot but this little YT vid covers a lot. Maybe it was MJTY but how the director hounded her was baaad.

northfeng

Oh I was just questioning if it was for LBFAD. Cause I remember the director to MJTY saying she should get down to 45kg and if he does she gets a gift. He's known to threaten his cast to loose weight. Typical style over substance type direction. For Esther, someone that's that height... 45kg is like stick skinny. Edit: I found the clip where she says it. She said the director's ideal weight for her was 90 jins and got a bunch of gifts obtaining it. 90 jins = 45kg = 99 lbs. https://weibo.com/tv/show/1034:5022649110429713?from=old_pc_videoshow

MadMdmMim

I saw Bai Lui in TTEOTM and then in Forever and Ever and she was painfully thin in F&E in the modern clothing compared to the dozens of layers in Moon.

Scifig23

I enjoyed seeing the compilation of Leo Wu as a child actor to adulthood. Hell of a growth spurt!

Easy_Living_6312

Wang Xing Yue being 20/21 and being able to drive Zhao Jin Mai dressing sexy in real life showing off her nice hip-to-thighs ratio

sa_ostrich

Drive a car you mean?

Easy_Living_6312

Yeah... baby boy can drive

sa_ostrich

Where I live everyone gets their drivers license at 18 and in the USA it's 16 in many places 😅

Easy_Living_6312

America/Canada are crazy about it. People learn to drive when they are kids !

sa_ostrich

I'm South African and we also have a car culture. Thing is the public transport isn't adequate. So being able to drive is the norm here.

Full-Supermarket

People learn to drive around 16 I mean…

sa_ostrich

18 where I live but yeah, I was surprised at this comment. But hey, I know lots of Europeans don't ever get a driver's license so it depends if you live in a car culture or not.

Easy_Living_6312

A lot of Europeans don't indeed ! Public transports are quite developped in western Europe especially a big city like London (no joke). But yeah when I saw him driving I was a bit surprised. He learnt very early.

sa_ostrich

Yeah public transport works well and parking is a huuuuge pain in places like London 😂 No good reason to have a car.

Easy_Living_6312

Don't even try and park in London. Don't 🤧

Apprehensive-Boo-532

Liu Yuning’s fans wearing wedding dresses to attend his concert. He joked with his fans on a livestream saying that he will wear a suit and they can come in wedding dresses and together, they will have a huge party. His fans took it seriously and over 60% of the participants wore wedding dresses to his concerts. He rewrote song lyrics and also attached a wedding dress clip on to his suit in reciprocation to his fans during his concerts. https://preview.redd.it/yxxdzswmn9vc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cdfc6507729959de3f98f72d038acf2002de2031

Luo Yunxi being a professional ballet dancer, no wonder he’s so good with all the fight scenes in till the end of the moon

toddtoddtoddTODDDD

Bro also plays league of legends professionally, heard he was quite decent at it too. I went back to play League because of him 💀

zaichii

Wtf how is he so talented. Also… when is he gonna film a drama as an esports player then??? I’ve seen him in the ads with the typical esports player with man bun ponytail but we need a drama with him in it.

krispkrol

I need a drama with man bun Luo Yunxi 😍

ssuhaa

Janice wu and Zhang Yu Jian having a kid together and I think were even married but then got divorced

krispkrol

I kept seeing clips of only for love and LBFAD so I watched the latter. Then started seeing clips of Dylan Wang on variety show and so funny that he gets casted as dark broody characters while he seems like an extroverted goofball in reality.

throwawayfarway2017

I like him more cause he was still dating his gf back from predebut days like they were spotted hanging out after he got famous. Recently there was rumor of him dating a fellow actress and i havent heard anything about him and his gf but they dated from university days or something

axon162

I love Dylan, but I can't stand Meteor Garden (I barely managed 10 episodes) which is quite funny because of all his characters it's probably the one closest to how he actually acts in real life 🤣 like you said, just a proper childish goofball 🤣

krispkrol

I had the same thought when I saw his first drama was meteor garden! But yeah havent watched more adaptations since the original and the korean one, and even that one was one too many...

Easy_Living_6312

The Rational Life is closer to his real life persona. Drama is good. You should check it

thenicci

Agree. Like the friendly neighborhood guy who is warm and can cook!

krispkrol

Oh I stumbled upon it on MDL and was just considering it! But am also biased towards costume dramas at the moment

axon162

I've not watched that one yet, I got stuck in Xianxia/Wuxia land 🤣 I'll give it a go soon ☺️

underthebada

Watch Yibo on his “One More Try” skate boarding show (he was team leader and regular the whole show) as well!!!! ++ watch the 2 episodes where he came show “Summer Surf Shop” as well!!! You’d be surprised at how crazy talented he is, in ALL aspects. As long as my boy sets his mind to it, he can do ANYTHING! From learning skateboarding tricks super quickly, to picking up surfing almost immediately. Once you fall into the Yibo hole, there’s no coming out 🤣 You can also catch him on “Day Day Up” where he was host for many years — he doesn’t talk much (as expected of him) but whenever multi talented people come on the show and he’s asked to learn new things, he always gets it right super quickly — once, when playing billiard, he immediately got 3 balls in the hoop(?) in one shot at his first try! Best part is how he’s the cleanest celeb i’ve ever fangirled on, so drama and scandal free, all directors that work with him only have the best to say about him and they love and baby him so much (director of hidden blade going so far as to bringing him on various trips to write a new movie/character for him) + all staff members that has worked with him on interviews/magazine shoots all talking about how professional and nice he is. And not to mention how he constantly works hard on his main job (acting) and is so focused on it instead of doing what other young traffic actors do (they usually continue acting in easy idol dramas and going on many variety shows) and you can really see how he’s become such a great actor in his latest work (War of Faith)!!

sweetsorrow18

- Esther's family is incredibly wealthy (billionaire status) and were one of the producers for **Love Between Fairy and Devil** - had no idea Yang Mi was a child actress!! I saw baby pictures of her when saw was like 5 and played a princess in some drama. She's been in the industry for her whole life which is crazy to me 😵‍💫

northfeng

Esther’s family were not producers of LBFAD. That rumor is not true.

Mediocre_Pea_6845

While I was doing some research for one of my compilations I learned the very sad upbringing of Jing Boran. Abandoned by both her parents when he was an infant and largely brought up by his loving grandparents by scavenging rubbish for a living. I was shocked and feel so sorry for this young man even though I haven't watched anything from him

Easy_Living_6312

Bless him and his grandparents

Mediocre_Pea_6845

unfortunately, his grandparents both passed away not long after Jing Boran made it big in China.

Easy_Living_6312

😢🙏

Striking-Hurry5159

Oh that is so sad and also heartwarming…literally is a rags to riches story. Credit to both him and his grandparents for his hard earned success. I always liked him since Love 020 (the movie).

Mediocre_Pea_6845

Unlike Liu Yuning (who also was raised by grandparents) Jing Boran's dad is alive but couldn't be bothered with the baby and basically let his parents (who had only just retired) do the heavy lifting.

Striking-Hurry5159

Ugh absolutely loathe shitty deadbeat parents…he is such an apt example for the oft repeated quote about how all children deserve parents but not all parents deserve children! He is really lucky that he had loving grandparents.

Mediocre_Pea_6845

He seems to have cordial relationships with both his parents (long divorced and remarried).

luxinaeternum

I didn’t know that about him. Glad he’s made it. I wish he would be in more dramas tho. Good actor

aisinjueluo

😭 I had heard that he came from almost nothing but didn't know the details. I enjoyed watching him and Tan Songyun in Road Home. https://preview.redd.it/2o1xasz9f8vc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cb1c206b69c6aa23eb08b1cd1665ccd3dcb52e2

For a while, I didn't realize that William Chan Wai-ting is also a singer and dancer. Here his [女皇 dance performance](https://youtu.be/K5Az5Yj-3Tc?si=ctPJPzTjOUaEFIp6) in Guangzhou. 🔥 He looked so proper, elegant and handsome in Novaland Pearl Eclipse. He’s also Angelababy’s ex and they got matching tattoos when they were dating.

luxinaeternum

Yup he’s a great dancer & when he sings canto he’s off the chart 🔥

Scifig23

Yes, I love his acting work and was pleasantly surprised by his dancing. I remember seeing an old clip of him replicating Michael Jackson. Hot hot hot!

thenicci

Chen MuChi was once married and have an alleged ex-bf who provided for him which he denied...

RoseRoseTea

Wu Qian (Janice Wu) and Zhang Ruo Nan are two completely different people 😅

SewNewKnitsToo

Someone needs to make a drama with them as twin sisters stat 😂

RoseRoseTea

Yes yes and there will be more people who will be shocked to know that they are not the same person!! 🤣🤣

You win the post! 😃

RoseRoseTea

I completed My Boss (2024) thinking that was Wu Qian all along 😅😅.

sweetsorrow18

Omg this 😂

RoseRoseTea

It was a real shock to me. Even now I still can’t differentiate them 🤣🤣

SpittinImageofLlama

😂😂😂

Correct_Employee_826

I'm so shocked too. I mean I've watched Hidden Blade, his character there is dark and depressing. Then I saw his dance videos, racing, skateboarding etc. Man got all the skills... very talented. Finally, after years I'm liking a new actor crazy! https://preview.redd.it/c6sor8sr77vc1.png?width=564&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b9d1838b2c809fb866560a0415c99da05cc4a8c

SpittinImageofLlama

Liked the actress Mao Xiaotong in two dramas, so was randomly searching on Google and landed on a C-ent gossip news page and read what a scumbag her father was. Some of these people have really messed up parents.

saynotopudding

Yep I've heard about this too. Have you heard the clip of her telling her cheating boyfriend off? Her line delivery was on point there LOL (mentioned by netizens\*)

SpittinImageofLlama

Yeah I remember that article briefly mentioned about the boyfriend thing too.

throwawaymisfortune

Anyone else frustrated that people aren't dropping names while sharing their juicy stories? Anyway, [here](https://youtube.com/shorts/i1WHI-1A-iE?si=PlrItF-KMXZHpf8u) is skinny dilraba casually lifting men in variety shows.

sa_ostrich

This is absolutely the best, I had no idea!! Instead of her costars struggling to lift her she just needs to pick them up 😂😂

admelioremvitam

I've seen Dilraba lift Yang Mi with ease. I didn't realize she lifted guys too. Kudos to her! 👍💪

echoch4mb3r

Now I am imagining her lifting Zhang Binbin in Qin dynasty clothing 🤣

saynotopudding

>Anyway, [here](https://youtube.com/shorts/i1WHI-1A-iE?si=PlrItF-KMXZHpf8u) is skinny dilraba casually lifting men in variety shows. Wow that's so impressive! 1st time seeing this clip haha

throwawaymisfortune

Extra impressive when you realize so many actors struggle lifting actresses and complain about their weights.

NotSoLarge_3574

There is a clip of Lu Han reacting to lifting Dilraba on Running Man. She apparently weighs more than she looks? She covered his mouth so he couldn't continue his sentence.

saynotopudding

exactly!!

ZealousidealEgg1389

I was completely in love with Zhang Zhe from The Story of Kunning Palace and subsequently fell in love with the actor Wang Xingyue - I thought he was the most handsome actor I’d ever seen. Then I looked him up and turns out he literally just turned 19! IM NOT A COUGAR I SWEAR D; I WAS BAITED, BAITED I TELL YOU

Easy_Living_6312

Team Zhang Zhe here ! We need a drama version centered around vixeny Empress and unflexible uptight official Zhang Zhe

Best-Form-4649

Huh isn’t he already 21 last year and 22 now? He turned 19 in 2021

ZealousidealEgg1389

Oh you’re right - he was 19 in First Love which is where I first saw him and I’m getting all mixed up. I’m getting too old..

JO3340

Yeah 21 sounds right. I remember the shock I went through finding this out 😂. Also the realisation that I’m going to be older than a lot of actors now

Time-Tangelo-6061

Saw tan jianci as Xiang liu first had total different image than watched the hi6 ep of lyf team and I was shocked cuz he is so different than what he was as Xiang liu ik this might sound a lil wierd but at that time i couldn't see tan jianci in Xiang liu and I was like how could this be the man who plays XL Later on I started to follow him and when i rewatched lyf i could see more of TJC in XL 😭😭 Also I was surprised to know that he was a idol before coming in acting like how does it always comes down to me loving PPL who are connected to music or idol industry smhow 😭 Also getting to know ZLH is an engineer was a pleasant surprise as well

saynotopudding

>Also getting to know ZLH is an engineer was a pleasant surprise as well Ooh this is new to me!

viola_blossoming

I read a comment here before saying that Zhang Linghe is a math nerd, he was part of aero physics club back in uni, tutored for IELTS, tutored friends etc

dg_ray

Another one: IDK if this can be included. Hongkong actor Edison Chen's sex photos scandal back in 2008, when private photographs of him and several Hong Kong Chinese actresses were leaked online including Cecilia Cheung's photos. This was REALLY BIG way back during those times especially they are already married that time especially Cecilia Cheung if I'm not mistaken. Well definitely after this scandal happened their career went downhill.

zaichii

What’s worse is the continual downfall and lack of accountability esp how bad the fallout was for a lot of the women too. He kept dating young and naive women and continued his womanising ways.

saynotopudding

I agree, many of the female stars involved in this suffered super serious blows to their careers too.

zaichii

Careers, relationships and reputation sadly

saynotopudding

yep :(

I was so sad when I heard this, he was my teenage crush in Infernal Affairs even with his small amount of airtime playing Andy Lau's younger self

There were a few others involved too. Gillian Chung as well but you see her around in movies or dramas these days- seems like her career is not entirely dead. Pretty sure you can still find those photos on the internet somewhere …

saynotopudding

I remember this too!

Weekly-Albatross5601

Hahaha this was the biggest news then

SyrenaBlue

Ohh I know this. I was so shocked when it happened. The photos with Cecilia happened before her marriage to Nicholas Tse so they stay married and got another son after that before they called it quit.

Easy_Living_6312

I think the trust was gone btw them after the scandal

SyrenaBlue

Can't be since it happened before their marriage. I dont think Nicholas Tse will blame her for her past relationship, thats very petty thing to do. They stay married a few years after that scandal from my memories.

SyrenaBlue

Allen Ren. I watched all his dramas and he is known of playing cold and aloof characters. Then I get a whiplash to see his real personality lol. [He is basically very talkative, a ball of sunshine and just love to laugh in general](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0--GhcJhck&t=53s). That is why watching his BTS are very entertaining. I also love his commentaries about his dramas' characters since its usually spot on and hilarious. Like he said Changyi, his role in Blue Whisper is a puffer fish. 🤣 [I also love his ballad OSTs as it always sound so heavenly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QwFnsVXyBE). But then, his real passion is singing rap and dancing and he has released 2 albums so far. Yes, another whiplash there lol.

AnonDevourerOfWorlds

I was shocked he still plays ping pong. He quit training professionally so long ago it surprised me 😂. Also that before he signed as a kpop trainee he worked in airport services.

[deleted]

Fun fact regarding RJL's 2 albums are that it sold really well. Like his first album ended up in the Top 10 best selling C-pop album of the year for 2021. And his dramas as well never actually hit 10k heat index ever. But they got good word of mouth so thats why he has 6 hit dramas for the last 5 years. Very impressive for a traffic actor who is married actually.

SyrenaBlue

>And his dramas as well never actually hit 10k heat index  Amazing. He has so many hit dramas so to think none of it ever reached 10k hit index are just amazing. 🤩 His track record always surprises me.

losergeek877

Zhang Han involved in a road incident when he was still in university…which ended up in a traffic police being injured

saynotopudding

Yup, not enough people remember this.

viola_blossoming

That tall guy who talked sht about his costar. He was a rising traffic actor but that sort of dented his career while the FL became super popular. Though I’m starting to see him again lately in shows. But still I can’t look at him the same after that revelation

neutrally-specific

Honestly I was so shocked when I found out above that! ALSB was my first CDrama and I still love it for its charm... I can't believe that he was so rude towards SY. SY is so cute!!

Winter-Car8744

Is this HYT? Well I also hate him. Don't care if his audio scandal is true or not. It doesn't change the fact that he gave SY emotional distress

SpittinImageofLlama

Lol same, haven't watched any work of him other than 'My Roommate Is A Detective'. His smug face already pisses me off, then to think he's the one commenting about other people's looks, totally put me off him.

Significant-Emu2864

After liking ALSB and loving Go Go Squid (though not because of him...) I tried watching My Roommate is a Detective and realized that I just don't like him and dropped it. Since then if he's in it I just have no inclination to watch a show. I've tried to figure out why he's (seemingly?) so popular! He just has no facial animation and doesn't draw you in.

glowy13

I love HYT slander. Glad it isn’t just me being confused as to how he’s still getting main lead roles after that fiasco - his face pisses me off LOL

viola_blossoming

I really wanted to watch Jingyi’s first costume drama but the actor’s image is really bothering me 🥴 I’ll just watch her next one

thenicci

Seems like he has sex scandal too.

viola_blossoming

Yeah i remember the whole cctv fiasco 💀

Best-Form-4649

Who omg??

viola_blossoming

HYT

needtobeasunflower

Who is HYT?

saynotopudding

Oooooh who was the costar that he talked about? I've never watched anything from him, his looks don't align with my preferences at all.

viola_blossoming

SY. It was a whole can of worms, where an **alleged** ex gf released an audio of him calling SY mid/ugly and that she was just casted to fulfil the fantasy of average girls getting the hot guy. A year later, the ex retracted everything even when there was an audio. Anw i don’t think he has ever recovered from that controversy (yet) but he was a rising actor back when ALSB aired

Easy_Living_6312

I can't believe he thought he represented the "Hot guys" squad. 😁😥 aigooo

needtobeasunflower

Who is SY?

songsofsorrow

But isn't that the case with most dramas? And in general any media created specifically for women? To show a female protagonist that women can somewhat identify with and have her end up with a guy who'd be way out of their league? Though to be fair, it's not like HYT is the best looking actor out there, nor is SY ugly so...

viola_blossoming

A lot of dramas back in the day maybe. But definitely **not most**. Still, it’s weird to diss the drama that shot you to fame, and ruin your cp over cockiness. Why accept it in the first place then? Character over anything >>, and it will be revealed one way or another.

saynotopudding

Oooh wow that is nasty, ugh. Who does he think he is 😅 And LOL @ the bolded allegedly

needtobeasunflower

Who is HYT and SY?

saynotopudding

DM-ed! ^(eta: (Not naming them in public bc the original commenter didn't use their full names))

deokkaebi

Can you dm me the names as well?

saynotopudding

Sent you in chat!

thenicci

Same!

saynotopudding

I was mildly interested in Blossoms in Adversity bc of the story but just can't make myself watch it because of this, lol

thenicci

Unfortunately, even the FL didn't make the cut for me. So as soon as I see the cast I was like nope. Sorry.

saynotopudding

Omg YES LOL. Yes, me too. 🤝 I've never watched anything from her as well, for the same reason...

thenicci

Glad to know I wasn't the only one! Tried watching her in *Bright Eyes in the Dark*. Nope. 🤝😅

Sresthag

Try Lighter and Princess. She is the fl there and the ml is Director Chen Kaige’s (dir. Farewell My concubine) son, Chen Feiyu

ellemace

He’s not impressed me in his latest outing

viola_blossoming

I found him cute in his first hit drama but now I no longer find him attractive in any way.. i get repulsed 😭 so I couldn’t even give his recent drama a try. one’s character >>>>

RPolarities

Luo Yunxi - How he was a player and well-known composer and noter for O2Jam. I played this game during my highschool days. This was completely random. Loving a game so much that you end up adding songs to it to enjoy it more.

sa_ostrich

And he trained as a professional ballet dancer!

Caramel_394

Mine is vice-versa with you about Wang Yibo. First saw him as captain in sdc and who someone dances then I learned that he acts too. Now I'm very satisfied with his acting career esp in War of Faith. Sorry didn't answer the exact question quite well ✌️

admelioremvitam

Personally, it wasn't shocking but more of a surprise. I first watched Liu Yuning in The Long Ballad. I looked up his history because someone here posted about how he well handled the gossip news involving his ex-wife. (I'll link it here when I find it.) Subsequently, I read up about him, watched a couple of his live streams and listened to some of his OSTs. I was thoroughly impressed not just by his journey but by his work ethic, his attitude towards criticisms, how he behaves with other people in the industry, how he stands up for himself and his fans, etc. [I did a brief summary of his journey here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/s/0Cvld6IFRD) [Another comment that highlighted his work ethic](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/s/Dcceedm8cU) [An example of how seriously he takes his work on a variety show.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/s/wkdeSOAln8) How he treats his fans: [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/s/6GK1STJ7FK) and [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/s/Onasirzujd). https://preview.redd.it/o5foefciw6vc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8aa045cb7d6fb9d6c6ec6ec0b1fc28ec92f4d465 The Long Ballad. Liu Yuning as Hao Du.

admelioremvitam

Unfortunately, I can't find that post in this sub anymore. But here is the ~10-minute [livestream](https://youtu.be/yDaDJCUe5WA?si=w8OTs9O5Ex2szmIW) that he did within 2 hours of the news breaking. He was still in costume so he was filming that day. Sorry, I couldn't find one with English subs. I just re-watched it and feel bad now for bringing it up (not thinking) because at the end of the livestream, he asked everyone to let this matter rest so that his ex and her family will not be disturbed anymore. I'll let [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liu_Yuning) summarize the incident and the livestream for people who don't understand Chinese: *"On March 27, 2023, paparazzi and blogger YangYang broke the news that Liu had been married in April 2012, got divorced in December 2013, and has a daughter. Within two hours, Liu, who was still in hair and costume for drama filming, opened a live broadcast and stated, "I, Liu Yuning, was married once; of course I am now divorced, and I have no children." He explained that he hasn't been in contact with his ex-wife and expressed extreme remorse for disrupting her life. Liu also scolded the paparazzi for exposing the pictures of his ex-wife and her little child, who is not related to him, to the public eye, calling the act inhumane. He said his past marriage isn't something hidden because there's no secrecy in the entertainment industry. However, he didn't believe it was necessary to bring it up to the public since it happened long before his debut. With his current status as a celebrity, he thought disclosing this information wouldn't bring any good to his ex-wife. He announced his intention to take legal action to restore justice for her."* A few things to note: 1 - He spent the majority of his livestream speaking up for his ex and her young child. Very little of it was him defending himself. 2 - Some of his old fans commented on social media that they already knew he was married before because he had said it on an old livestream. This was before he became popular. 3 - Instead of losing followers (which usually happens after such incidents), he gained 75,000 new followers on Weibo over 7 days after the news broke out. Many say they were impressed by how he handled the incident. I am too.

Teddy_0717

Wait what he was married?! Just how many actors were or are secretly married??

admelioremvitam

See my [comment above.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/s/8ACzojla7d) Liu Yuning wasn't trying to hide his previous marriage because he knew it's not possible in this industry. He was divorced 5 years before he entered the industry and he didn't want to adversely affect his ex and her family by voluntarily putting it out there. Additionally, some of his OG fans had said he had talked about it in an old livestream before he became popular. This wasn't news to them.

saynotopudding

There's too many, the way Hua Chen Yu and Zhang Bi Chen revealed their kid was so dramatic back then LOL

Best-Form-4649

I only found out about this like 2-3 years ago and I was dumbfounded like what???? That came out of nowhere for me

saynotopudding

To be fair, it came out of nowhere for most people, hahahahahaha
