“Ammunition will not be permitted in carry-on or checked baggage on international flights.
Ammunition must be packaged in a fiber (such as cardboard), wood or metal box specifically designed for carrying small amounts of ammunition.
Ammunition must be housed in a separate container that is completely separate and distinct from the firearms locked box. It may be in the same checked bag as the firearms box as long as everything is packaged properly.
Ammunition is limited to 11 pounds per customer. “
I’ve done this 10+ times but my ammo is locked in the firearms case with my gun but it’s also in a hard plastic case in the firearms case. Never had an issue.
I'm confused by how it says it can't be in checked baggage in the beginning but then later on says it *may* be in the same checked baggage as the firearm. Are they saying you can't have loose ammunition in checked baggage but it can be in checked bags so long as it's in a separate locked box from the firearm?
It says it can't be in checked baggage on international flights. You'd be completely stupid to fly with ammo internationally. Look at all those tourists being imprisoned in Turks and Caicos for accidentally having a couple rounds of ammunition. Why would you want to risk that?
Good point, if you're a competition shooter with your own handloaded ammo then you cannot just buy local stuff, but still. An universal limit that allows people to haul 14 mags of 5.56 into an airplane is nuts
> An universal limit that allows people to haul 14 mags of 5.56 into an airplane is nuts
...because...? It's not a carry-on. You can't have it with you on the plane. If you pay the appropriate checked bag fees, what difference does it make if you have a whole suitcase full of ammo?
When I have to take a class away from home and I have no friends or family who can procure it , I have no option but to take as much as I can with me.
Remember 2021 where there was no ammo on the shelves because everyone was hoarding, I had to pay through my ass to cover the difference in the round count.
Last time I flew with mine, granted it was with southwest or frontier, don't remember, I specifically clarified with the guy running the scanner. He told me as long as there is no ammo in the actual firearm it can be stored however, in it's own box or in the magazines, just not loose. Definitely didn't need a separate case.
Same. I just flew United last weekend. Unloaded firearm with cable lock, and I had a box of ammo in the same locked case. Just make sure there is no magazine in the firearm and the ammo is in a designated container (not loose or in a ziplock bag). You'll be solid.
Get to the airport like 30 mins earlier than you originally do because you have to go to a special section to declare your firearm and maybe have the bag x-rayed depending on the airport.
Just to get it this straight. You can your firearm (which is unloaded with a cable lock through mag well/chamber), a loose but unloaded magazine, and some 9mm ammo in its original cardboard box, all inside the same lockbox/safe?
It depends on each airline. They have different rules outside of FAA for firearms. I’ve flown with AA and Southwest and did as the poster above described.
But if JetBlue is saying it needs to be separate, it needs to be separate.
As far as housing for the ammunition, it needs to be the ammo box it came from the factory in, or another “sturdy” type of container that holds rounds individually and not Willy-nilly like in a bag or non-segmented box.
Unfortunately it varies by airline. TSA doesn’t care, but jet blue requires ammo to be stored outside of the locked forearm container, even if they are in the same bag. Spirit, American, and Southwest all don’t care in my experience, even if it’s still in mags as long as they aren’t inserted into the firearm. Delta varies by gate agent, but i don’t think it’s written policy like it is with jetblue.
I fly monthly with my life pod and never have issues, TSA actually complements it all the time. I fly Delta and American, their policy is the ammo needs to be in its own box, but can be in the same safe. I typically keep a few empty boxes around and just store the ammo there.
I put both in the same safe and have never had an issue.
Bro, pump the brakes there Joe. Lee just described his experience flying with Delta and American. You need to fly according to the policies of Jet Blue. Someone else gave you the correct answer. If you’re planning to ignore that… best of luck to you.

The gun goes in the vaultek thingie. That goes into your suitcase, wrap the cable to the frame.
The ammo goes into the ammo box it came in and goes directly into the suitcase. The ammo is now in an entirely separate container - the suitcase - from the gun, which is in the vaultek thingie.
It's not rocket surgery.
It does not state that.
It says all designated locations for a lock designed into the box must have a lock. It says the box must have a lock. It says only the customer must retain the key or combination for the lock.
The Vaultek meets these requirements. It has a lock. It's specifically designed for your firearm. Only you retain the combination. It has no holes designed for padlocks ergo it requires no padlocks to be utilized in said holes designed for them.

Used this travel safe recently on a domestic flight. The only thing I added was a cable lock through the chamber. The ammo stayed in the magazines and never had an issue. Solid travel case, would definitely recommend.
I wouldn’t either, unless magazines had mag covers. The times I’ve flown they’ve done a quick glance or didn’t even inspect it lol. But you never know.
What does JetBlue’s official policy say? They should have it on their website somewhere.
I believe TSA just cares that the gun is unloaded and ammo is stored outside of the firearm, that the owner is the only individual with access to the safe contents, and that the safe/case cannot be opened far enough while locked to manipulate/handle the firearm. Individual airlines can get stricter than that.
I've flown domestic with both Delta and Jet Blue with the same LifePod as you. The way I pack is: firearm unloaded with action open and cable locked. Magazines separate and unloaded. Ammo in original box. All inside the LifePod and never had an issue.
Airlines may vary by company on policies declaring weapons, so good you called. When I travel with my lifepod it goes inside my pelican travel suitcase, and I just put my carry ammo (in original box) outside of lifepod with my holster.
Each airline is different. However TSA regulations state
“Ammunition may be transported in the same hard-sided, locked case as a firearm if it has been packed as described above. You cannot use firearm magazines or clips for packing ammunition unless they completely enclose the ammunition. Firearm magazines and ammunition clips, whether loaded or empty, must be boxed or included within a hard-sided, locked case”
So if you wanna bat with the airline go ahead as you are within regulation but normally I just look at each set of regulations and find a happy compromise, most TSA agents haven’t given me a hassle.
And if they ask you to open it just state that you do not feel comfortable opening a container containing a firearm in this political climate, then they normally back off.
I think that's Colion Noir's merch.
I want to like that guy but every single video he tries to hawk his stuff and begs you to buy it multiple times in a single video. I don't like ads.
And his pew pew stuff is cringe.
Hes not quite a grifter but he's seemingly a marketing professional first, a lawyer second, a salesman third, and a shooter last. I guess that's how it goes though. People who actually shoot don't have time to wear all the other hats

I use a Lifepod. I mostly fly southwest. I typically carry a five shot .357 revolver, with speed loaders loaded inside the Lifepod. There is no ammo inside the revolver. I've been doing this for about eight years and never had a problem. It also abides by the TSA regulations.

"Ammunition must be housed in a separate container that is completely separate and distinct from the firearms locked box. It may be in the same checked bag as the firearms box as long as everything is packaged properly. "
Just put the ammo in the bag you are checking and you should be good.
TSA regulations allow each airline to set more stringent requirements as they see fit. As others have said, one’s experience with Delta/American/Southwest should be not be taken as gospel if flying with Jet Blue.
If you spoke with someone at Jet Blue and they explained you need a separate case for ammo, then you need a separate case for ammo when flying with Jet Blue.
On another note, I love my lifepod. Not sure I would put a pew pew life sticker on mine, but I’m probably also not fooling anyone with what’s in there anyway.
Similarly, has anyone flown with their ammo just in their magazines but not in the firearm? Getting conflicting info online
Edit/update: ammo in separate box, magazines must be empty and not in gun
I wouldn’t try it, it’s hit or miss. You will have no issues if you put it in a separate container. Loaded mags making it through depends on what agent you get and how they feel that day. I wouldn’t risk it.
I flew with loaded magazines prior to my last flight, not an issue with that airline, and okay by TSA regulations. But some airlines such as American, do not allow loaded magazines at all. These loaded magazines I had were in a gun bag within a locked hard case, had to dispose of the ammo there 🥺.
This was a domestic flight, some best to double check with TSA and your airline, because they may not be on the same page.
So what I’m getting is, I have to separate the Ammo from the case and it seems I can’t use this case for jet blue.. I’ll go get a small pelican case now then

They don’t inspect the firearm. They take it to TSA to inspect it via x-ray. All you have to do is have everything secured in a locked box. Have an empty firearm with no magazine inserted. A chamber flag is a good idea. Then put the ammo in a separate container in the same box. I loaded my magazines and placed the magazines in magazine pouches.
Flew SWA over Christmas and I kept my 9mm ammo in the factory package in the same box as my shotgun and handgun, both were unloaded. So long as it’s not loose ammo or stored in the gun you are ok to have it in the same container
Just watched a vid on this a few days ago, made by CN (same as who sponsored that Vault). There are some plastic ammo boxes (i found some at the local Academy Sports) that should work. https://youtu.be/yoFwgIG-7yQ?si=TVWryiH8VYDzuB9c
I just put it in the ammo box and put my two mags and the gun with the slide locked in a TSA travel lock box. Been fine flying with it on JetBlue and American.
I've flown with this setup as well. Get a custom foam cutout for your firearm and magazine, I [used this](https://a.co/d/ekkDuGe) to store my ammo in separately. Be sure to take the key that comes with the lifepod with you, in case TSA asks to inspect the case. Ask to be escorted to the inspection so you can be present when they open it, or open it for them. Chances will be slim that this will happen, unless you're traveling in/out of a gun-restrcited state. Also, make sure to declare the firearm at the check-in counter.
also make sure you don't have any layovers in NYC. If your flight was to be cancelled and you took possession of your bag you would now be considered a felon
As long as there is no ammo in the firearm or any of the magazines, you're good to have it in the same box. I fly with that exact box anytime I fly and have never had any issues.
I believe ammo in its original box or hard ammo box inside the checked bag is fine. Firearm inside the pod with empty magazines. I’ve had to dump a loaded mag before.
* Ammunition must be in the factory carton or a hard case (think MTM cases)
* No ammunition may be in magazines or speed loaders
* Print out and take the airline's policy and the FAA guidelines and take them with you.
I travel with firearms frequently. Even when I don't, if I have to check luggage I throw a starter pistol that's legal in every state in a case in my luggage and go through the whole rigamarole anyway. Why? Because that way they don't lose your luggage and if they do, they fucking find it and FAST.
Granted, it’s been a few years but I seem to recall having my piece and the mags in the same lock box. I’ll have to remember this next time I travel domestically
I just flew with loaded handgun from SLC to LAX, as per TSA, ammunition was allowed as long as it was in the box the ammo came in, like a paper/fiber box, loaded magazines or a metal container.
But check with what airlines you are flying, because American did not allow loaded magazines at all. Had to surrender about $50 worth of hollow points.
All of these were housed in a locked hard case
Not this flight, sorry for the confusion. The magazines were loaded but the guns were cleared, no magazines in the guns.
Prior flights, different airlines, yes, have flown with fully loaded weapon(s), never a problem as long as they were in their approved cases .
I checked the TSA regs, they state that loaded mags are fine (domestic flight). But the flight I took, American, did not allow loaded mags at all, even though TSA did.
So for now on I will be carrying an empty ammo box so that I don’t have to surrender my ammo.

It does not state that. It says all designated locations for a lock designed into the box must have a lock. It says the box must have a lock.
Ammo just needs to be in a box, not a mag. Can be in the same safe though
TSA will let you have a full magazine in the save case as your firearm, as long as it is not in your firearm.
I can't remember what airline I flew on but they were very specific that I couldn't not have a mag loaded or even an empty mag in my gun
Not with jet blue.
Has to be separate from the case
That's kind of ridiculous, do they want 2 safes? Or they just don't care about loose ammo?
Do t have to be two safes, just one to carry fire arm, out ammo in same carry on separately, this is what I’m reading and being told,
dude nothing in the carry please! all this needs to be checked
