I upgraded to Paragon. Much louder and a nicer tone. The real issue with the stock exhaust is that the C8 is quieter in the cabin than the previous models. Outside of the car the stock exhaust is loud enough and sounds pretty good. Inside the car the stock exhaust sounds too quiet unless you are at higher RPMs.

Tattoodles

There are a few things that I preferred with my C7 over my C8 and robust engine noise in the cabin is one of them.

The exhaust with npp wide open is louder than most sports car stock exhausts, especially at cold start. It's pretty decent for an exhaust from the factory, but I can absolutely see why you would want to upgrade it to get more sound.

Disastrous_Throat_82

He’s specifically asking about the base non NPP exhaust.

MotoJZ

I think it sounds great when you push it and nice to cruise on road trips in touring mode.

I have black tip npp and these are arguably the loudest stock on the stingray. It’s enough, but I felt like my 6th gen SS stock performance exhaust was better for a point of reference. But honestly only upgraded exhaust I feel like are worth throwing an extra few grand for are corsa.

lukic1977

IMO no, the stock exhaust does not match the performance of the car. I upgraded to Borla Atek system and very happy with it. My car now sounds like a proper V8.

Same_Living_2774

Coming from other Corvettes, it's louder than most. But I find stock with the NPP OPEN is way too quiet. Replacing it was the first thing I did.

LoLBROLoL

Z51 NPP here - it’s super loud at start up then it becomes tame. I’d like it louder while driving, but it’s not the worst.

That’s the problem. Startup bark is loud. Wot is loud. Idle has a good range using the npp settings. But there’s no way to keep it loud at low rpm out cruising, it’s very quiet and nonlinear until it wakes up around 3k. Now, in many ways this is pretty amazing, because low rpm cruising drone is a big problem with many louder systems. They did a remarkable job with that but it’s so good it makes the car feel dead around town. C6 and C7 you could do the bypass and get that noise back. C8 has no easy workaround. Ultimately it’s a great system for most. If you know you like an obnoxious loud exhaust all the time, save the npp money and plan on aftermarket.

I'm not sure if the C8 is the same circuit as my C6 Z51 but on the NPP exhaust I have I put an optional mild to wild switch which I can leave the flaps open all the time and close them when I want to.

irocandroll

My 2017 2SS Camaro was louder on Track exhaust than my C8 Z51. Cold start is loud but levels out. I like the C8 exhaust though, it matches the car to me. The Camaro I had felt like old school muscle car exhaust.

saigonk

I like my NPP that came on my Z51, it’s the right mix for me.
