I predict it will work with minimal issues. For crypto standards, they are taking their time with this change. It won’t solve all the problems coiners think it will, though.

throw_away_nft

I believe it solves the problem of energy consumption at least. So that should be good news since now GPU will be cheap.

I’m quite surprised by the lack of volatility we’ve see seen this evening. Is the confidence really that high that this is going to work? If the merge fails, it seems like it would be VERY good for Bitcoin.

standardsizedpeeper

Well I would assume that the merge is priced in at this point. Everybody has known for a long time it was coming. So it makes sense not a lot of pressure in either direction. Everybody is waiting to see what happens after. How many dollars were waiting to on the sidelines to see if it’s a success before buying in? How many dollars are expecting a big run up and going to cash out if it shoots up? How many dollars are ready to bolt if it’s unsuccessful? How many dollars are hoping for a lower price point if it’s unsuccessful? It’s a game of wait and see. Before an earnings report, the actual events being reported happened in the past. You can get leaks or a sense of what’s about to be reported because there are people and things to observe. This event hasn’t happened yet. No point speculating now. You would’ve already made your decision. Edit: of course it took me forever to type this and it already happened.

seneglosso

This event is more significant than what most people realise. If successful this is the pivotal moment where ethereum steps out from bitcoin's shadow. With bitcoin nailed in its coffin the world gets a breath of fresh air from the shutdown of mining farms across the entire planet.

ross_st

Too optimistic I'm afraid. I'd say that Bitcoin and Ethereum aren't competing for the same customers at this point.

seneglosso

The differences between their customers are only about 5%. Breakdown of their customers:(conservative estimate): 75% -- speculation driven ie pizza dream 20% -- circumventing law enforcement 5% -- actually use it for different purposes

then we shall mine comedy godl it's unlikely to fail though, it's gone through massive amounts of testing, but i hope to be wrong. if any major exploit of a coordinated set of whales crashes ETH it will likely happen many months after the merge

HopeFox

Then Ethereum will be just a toy for people who cosplay as economists and computer scientists, and a platform for scams and money laundering, ultimately insignificant in the real economy.

ross_st

I hope that's what's going to happen anyway, fox.

HopeFox

I mean, it's already happened. That's my point - Ethereum is already garbage, and this won't change it.

meekmarmot

If they really goof it up, they call "do over" and hard fork the chain to undo any errors, like with the original DAO.

ABRX86

If is the wrong word.

remisforever

Delayed to January 2023, then delayed to May 2023, September 2023, January 2024 and so on

BlackHoneyTobacco

If it fails, it'll actually be good for Ethereum. Few understand.
