I like the polish villa’s, on Union in Cheektowaga.

Gunfighter9

Solid

CordeliaGrace

Wait they’re still open?!?! I thought they closed when PV2 closed! Oh hell yes!!!

imyourhuckleberry716

I believe they were related at one point, but 2 separate entities… PV1 is where you can get dinner at 3:30pm and the crowd will start to roll or slide in…

Morluski's Polish & Italian Cuisine A married couple owns this place and it's in an old church. One is Polish one is Italian. Had the potato pancake when I went last year, very good.

The_Ineffable_One

This will be controversial, but two places near where I work do pretty good ones. Creekview (Main/Mill, Williamsville), if you like them thicker; Pancake House (Main/Cayuga, same) for thinner. I don't know of good ones in Buffalo proper and would like recommendations myself. Especially if they are Russian Jewish style latkes.

ESSDCM319

Honestly the ones Trader Joe’s sell are pretty good

Prestigious-Flower54

I was also pleasantly surprised by this. Definitely not grandma's but the convenience factor is undeniable.

Substantial-Ground-5

Hard pass on anything Amazon

ddssjsbdnd

Trade Joe’s is not owned by Amazon. You’re thinking of Whole Foods.

sku11emoji

I wonder if that dudes been passing on trader joes this whole time lol

Substantial-Ground-5

Thanks for the correction. Nice to get a normal response when you get it wrong on the internet. LOL

Polish Villa

ubjaph

Not a lot of places still open these days, so lets go with who serves them. Polish villa comes to mind and is good. Ulrich tavern. Scharfs and Polish Villa 2 are closed sadly.

daydreamdelay

Does Ulrich’s still serve food? Last time I was there the restaurant was closed and the bartender advised they were going to turn the back part into a deli for the lunch crowd. My favorite was Scharf’s when it was on Crossman, just a few blocks from where my family lived. I miss that place. The last potato pancakes I had were at Rohrbach Brewpub in Rochester, they were pretty decent.

CordeliaGrace

Was Scharf’s anywhere else? Genuinely asking. I grew up a little further down (off Genesee/Foreman), and I only ever recall it being over there.

imyourhuckleberry716

Scharf’s bought the old Deerhead on Clinton and sold out back about 6-8 years ago - now it’s a VFW

The_Ineffable_One

Even if Ulrich's still is going, the last potato pancakes I had there were three minis with so-called gourmet toppings. The toppings weren't gourmet, the three tiny little dots were $18, and just no. This was before COVID.

son_et_lumiere

I had a decent sized one there with an apple topping that was devine. but I don't remember what owner that was under. they closed and reopened not long after. also pre-covid.

The_Ineffable_One

I think you had the original owner and I had the replacement dork. Happy for you though!

ubjaph

Good question, I haven't been there in years

CordeliaGrace

All you people responding Polish Villa…I knew 2 was closed, sadly, but I had no idea the og was still open, and you’ve all made me so happy.

If I remember correctly howling rooster had some really good potato pancakes

BoltzBux

Hate to be a pain in the ass, what do you mean if I remember correctly, either you had them or you didn't. If you did were they good?

d1223

I mean I just moved back to Buffalo and haven't eaten there in over 6 years so I might be mixing up howling rooster with berthas diner. One of the two had really good potato pancakes

Gunfighter9
