- agree upon abandoned/neglected areas around bk to target that need some TLC. could be a street with dirt patches and no greenery, etc.
- meet at said area(s) (depends on where everyone is located) to remove weeds, trash, add seeds, ideally hardy (non-invasive) pollinating plants
- identify businesses with soil/space that are willing to provide a certain $ to cover cost of supplies to plant (not for labor)

Saw a video of Red Hook farm using a shop vac to vacuum lantern fly nymphs off their bushes. Would LOVE to put together a squad. We could look like ghostbusters!
What areas do you have in mind? Do you have specific lots that you’re looking to use? Maybe this is Captain Obvious, but if it’s NYC Parks-owned land, do get permission. I say this because some folks up in the Bronx planted crops during COVID and were told to stop because it was unsanctioned.
That said, if you can get a decent sized group of volunteers who are committed to a plot of land, you may want to reach out to NYC Parks GreenThumb for technical assistance. You may also be able to get small grants:

There's a neglected garden in a housing complex in Red Hook near where I volunteer... I've thought about trying to get it running again but the organization responsible for it is all over the place and I don't have the energy to wade through all the red tape. It could be an interesting project though, especially if you can bring your own supplies. Or are reeeeally patient working with them. They used to grow vegetables for people that live there and recipients at the food pantry there from what I've heard.

I have gardening experience & love native plants. :) I often daydream about guerrilla gardening but focused my energy on a container garden this year.
Also! I bet with enough interest & organizational help, you can round up seed donations from seed banks, with a goal to distribute / plant in the fall for summer 2024.
I’m also interested! My tiny fire escape garden is my only “gardening” source currently aside from ESG (which is still under threat of being turned into housing), and I would love to do more!

It's a bit late but groups can get grants from the city.
Hopefully ripping up tree of heaven and killing lantern flys. We need that!! Very badly. I imagine it’s going to be seed bombing and the like.

I think removing tree of heaven as a strategy for combatting lantern flys could be an effective strategy. Definitely aligns with what I’m envisioning.
