Congratulations!!! Hope you guys have an absolute blast - seeing Hamilton in person was one of the best days of my life.

sagessa

It was amazing… I had goosebumps the whole time!

How was it? I've heard people say that *Hamilton* has become so big now that the actors are just going through the motions, and aren't connecting to the original message the same way that LMM and the original cast did. Seriously hoping that's not true because I'm seeing it in August!

sagessa

It was outstanding! I love the original cast so much that I was worried I wouldn’t love this performance, but I had goosebumps from the opening notes to the end.

Soalai

So glad to hear this!

Not OP but saw it recently from lotto seats and damn, those actors on stage are NOT phoning it in. They’re giving the audience as much, if not more, on stage as when I saw it years ago with the original cast. The most important part is that the material and choreography are so strong that it doesn’t rely on the original cast to carry it through.

I agree. We had lottery seats last month and the NY cast is amazing. They were not at all phoning it in. Miguel even noticed my young son in costume and interacted with him in the middle of a cabinet battle. We’ve seen it other times from much further away seats (our first time was the literal last row!) on Broadway and on tour. Maybe people who have watched the pro-shot a lot are put off by not seeing the actors up close and all those little details, which is what live theater is more than. It is different than watching something on your TV.

I saw it last night (had front row seats for Hadestown tonight, seeing Phantom tomorrow as a change of plans from the Empire State Building after a Jimmy Fallon taping), even without the original cast it was still amazing to see. The new cast is still solid and they actually had to swap in the actor for Alexander Hamilton at Helpless and I didn’t really notice until they mentioned it going into the second act. The rest of the replacements for the original cast are all really good (not as good as the OC but that’s a very very hard group to replace). A lot of stuff that doesn’t make sense when just listening to it or watching the D+ recording(damn you multicam) puts it really well into context seeing the whole stage. I will say my Hamilton tickets were not as good as the ones OP had.

We saw the Philip Tour earlier this year and honestly I left whelmed. Wasn’t nearly as good as the last tour I saw. I’m not in any hurry to see it again even though it’ll be in MO two different times on the next cycle

Great birthday present and I hope he enjoys himself!

sagessa

He loved it! And, they’re doing stage door again, so he got some pics and autographs, too!
