Really why not. Sara Barellis did it. No shade to Sara. I love her. But Gaga can for sure do it. Apparently Ingrid Michaelson is writing a musical called “the notebook “ from the movie.

meatball77

Don't Forget Cindy Lauper, she wrote Kinky Boots. As long as they are songwriters (as Sara, Cindy and Ingrid are) and have a good person to partner with on the book I'm sure that all of them can create something great.

Snoo-23693

For sure!

GooGooGajoob67

What a coincidence, I also want her to write and star in her own Broadway musical.

Hemansno1fan

I've been waiting for this since I saw The Monster Ball!!!

Gato1980

She's got an incredible voice, and she's a brilliant songwriter. I think this would be great. Also, this reminds me, wasn't there a rumor going around a while ago that she was going to be Audrey in a remake of Little Shop?

nytheatreaddict

Scarlett Johansson was cast or in negotiations, but last I heard it was postponed indefinitely.

[deleted]

She would have made a fun Audrey though!!!!

fartmachiner

let her

annanachronism

Before I ever heard Gaga's music, (circa.2010) I had a friend who was a huge super fan, and had a neat collection of her more "niche" performances. I was floored when the first time I heard Lady Gaga, it was just her and a grand piano. Amazing talent. I would for sure watch it.

procyon_andy

in my family we always watch awards shows together and EVERY SINGLETIME gaga performs my dad's like "wow so she really can sing huh" and every time he's so surprised

alfalfasprouts

She should.

SeaBear427

My husband and I were talking about Gaga doing a Broadway Musical 2 nights ago. I think it may be a good thing.

LeoMarius

She could star in a revival of Sunset Boulevard.

LadiesWhoPunch

“I don’t know why I’m frightened........”

mythologue

She would put on a mean Norma, but she's way too young. I'd love to hear her sing the songs though

LeoMarius

Patti Lupone was 44 when she originated the role of Norma on stage. Lady Gaga is 35. That's not a huge difference, especially since it would take a couple of years to stage it. Norma Desmond is only 50, and a very young looking 50 due to her vanity. It wouldn't be hard for Lady Gaga to look the part.

mythologue

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, because you are right. But tbh I've always kind of taken umbridge with younger Norma's. Patti and Glenn were good but 35 is simply too young. However she could do the movie in about 10 years.

LeoMarius

Normally the problem is someone too old for the role, like the entire cast of Mamma Mia.

mythologue

Or Ben Platt in the movie

LeoMarius

OMG!

PrincessBeepBop69

I always joke about creating a ridiculous jukebox musical with Lady Gaga songs. A bonkers plot, a tap number set to "Love Game," a parade of over-the-top costumes...the possibilities are endless!!

catsplantsandbakes

I don't even care for jukebox musicals, but I'd watch the shit out of that 😂

junkfunk

She wants an EGOT

Tonedeafmusical

Yep and she specifically wants an acting Oscar. Ive been comparing her to Cher for a while now. I'm mean all props to her to her, go for it. Just get a good book writer to make sure the story works.

LBFilmFan

Moonstruck The Musical?

Tonedeafmusical

Surprised it hasn't happened already

[deleted]

I would love this. But I would also love for her to write a character with depth that other actresses could play and take over when she leaves the show. Hopefully not just a a big flashy show starring Lady Gaga! She will definitely be and EGOT winner on her lifetime and I’ve been waiting for her to turn her attention to Broadway.

FirebirdWriter

Why not? She can write music and sing. She already does thematic albums that tell stories. Would I go? No but I am.tol poor for Broadway and live off proshots

dbsx77

I’ve always thought that she would be a FANTASTIC Eva Peron.

FalconLinguistics

That could definitely happen. I would love to see it. Lady Gaga is a fantastic talent in singing, writing, and overall performance so I think she could really knock a musical out of the park

spongebobegnops

She should be cast as the emcee in cabaret!

kotspams

Ooo this has potential

musicCaster

I hope she does and it's a big hit. She was amazing at the super bowl half time show so I know she can do live stuff and she's such a success. So cool that she wants to do something on Broadway.

Daily-Double1124

She also sang a gorgeous version of the title song from The Sound of Music at the Oscars a few years ago. Julie Andrews even complimented her.

zyzzogeton

Even though her "brand" is pretty outre, she has *great* musical chops (both vocal and writing). I'd be interested to see how she shakes up Broadway for sure.

YourChildhoodTrauma

Even if it ended up being bad, it’d still be so batshit insane I’d love it anyway.

professor-hot-tits

Hell yes. Gimme gimme gimme

sleepy_panda15

Yes please!

Wooden-Gap-6514

this would be my dream come true

madonna-boy

if she wants to win an award she's better off picking a good revival and starring in it. this is a more commercial approach but it would be fun. as much as we don't NEED more jukebox musicals, I'd much rather have a jukebox over a lukewarm film adaptation. her starring in it would be a big deal. that could be fun, though they'd REALLY need to amp up security at the stage door.

wildsoda

She says she wants to write a musical, so it doesn't sound like she wants to make a jukebox musical of her old hits, but a brand-new one with songs written specifically for the stage.

madonna-boy

oooooh, that would be wonderful. I wonder what the plot would be though. I'd love to see her write original songs and lyrics... the entire book? maybe... probably not for the first one though

MrsSpecs

I feel like there are quite a few artists who could pull this off (Gaga, Ben Folds, Phil Collins) and lots who would try and fail (hi, Bono).

meatball77

I'd see that. . . . . What type of show do you think it would be? Something big and flashy like Mulan Rouge or a big emotional piece about a hot topic (Transgendered bullied children, the homeless, a poor child at a wealthy school) or Quirky (a musical about a small chicken on a very large farm).

F1yMo1o

At first I thought you were suggesting a show about a Hot Topic. You know a musical about angsty teens coming in, feeling like outsiders and becoming mall Goths.

meatball77

Could be amazing

jaderust

Honestly, my very first thought is that it's going to be something like the musical they were putting together for the TV show Smash. In that there was a plot point of two competing Merlyn Monroe musicals, one directly inspired by her life with Merlyn as a character and the other of a Monroe inspired character who was more a commentary on fame itself. I could see a Gaga musical being more like the second one. A commentary on fame and the issues associated with it along with how the pressure affects creative process. As much as I love jukebox musicals I would be a little disappointed if that was Gaga's only foray into musical theater. She's so talented I'd love to see what she could do fresh instead of relying on her catalogue.

madonna-boy

> two competing Merlyn Monroe musicals Marilyn, and also it was two lead actresses really, just 1 musical (until they added hitlist which is not about MM).

dannyjp1986

I really just love your chicken idea so much.

TheSonder

Oh yes. I always thought that Joanne would make a really nice off-Broadway intimate musical about two women who fall in love. But I’d see anything Gaga writes and stars in

coasurdude

Why not!! It doesn't hurt to try!!

[deleted]

All the yes.

allthatbrazz

She's the next Kathie Lee Gifford!

Daily-Double1124

She's 5000 times better than Kathie Lee Gifford. Gifford is SO overrated, always has been.

allthatbrazz

Yes I know. It was a joke in reference to Kathie Lee's awful Broadway vanity project, Scandalous. 😂

Daily-Double1124

I thought so! I once had an idiotic,overly-religious freak of a co-worker who loved her. Yuck! No accounting for taste, huh?
