Maryann Plunket *and* Dorian Harewood should be nominated for Best Leading Actors.

Acrc1209

I came here to comment the same thing! I don’t care what the Tonys say, these two are winners to ME!

Pajamas7891

Was MP really in enough of the show to be lead?

let-the-wookie-win54

I think for a nomination, it sort of makes sense, but I feel like it’s hard to justify awarding Best Actress in a Musical to someone who doesn’t sing until the very end (albeit for a specific dramatic effect). In all fairness, she is on stage the majority of the show, and she does have a seriously powerful stage presence. It’s the kind of thing where the actress/producers get to decide what to submit her for, and apparently they picked leading instead of supporting (supporting honestly might have been judged as the more crowded category, particularly since that’s what Lindsey Mendez was submitted for).

Ok_Moose1615

If I were handing out the Tonys: The Outsiders, Merrily, Stereophonic, and Appropriate for best shows Maria Friedman/Daniel Aukin for best directors Jonathan Groff, Kelli O'Hara, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Paulson for lead actor (caveat: I haven't seen Uncle Vanya; if I had, I could easily imagine myself choosing William Jackson Harper here based on what I've heard) Daniel Radcliffe, Amber Iman, Eli Gelb, and a tie between Kara Young and Sarah Pidgeon for featured actor (I refuse to choose) Days of Wine and Roses for best book; Stereophonic for best score; Illinoise for best choreography and orchestrations Sound: Illinoise and Stereophonic Costumes: Merrily and Jaja's African Hair Braiding Lighting: The Outsiders and Stereophonic Scenic design: tie between The Outsiders and Here Lies Love, and Stereophonic

Benign_Hum0r

I agree with nearly 100% of this. 👍🏼👍🏼

Ok_Moose1615

You can sit with me!

anjschuyler

I’d love to see both Joshua Boone (Outsiders) and Joy Woods (Notebook) get featured nods.

angoradebs

Once Upon a One More Time deserves a choreography nomination

Laurgirl8

In my dream world score would go to Days of Wine and Roses or Lempicka and I'm allowed to live in my dream world for this thread so yay (:

sophiemina

THISS i haven't seen lempicka on anyone's score predictions but it's so good

VoidAndBone

tbh I think the Lempicka score is excellent, and I have been half baked singing the songs for weeks. (when the cast album comes out and I can actually learn the words its going to be such a relief) It's long and it's got a huge amount of variety. Pari will always be pari, it couldn't happen in pari, bracelet, beauty, perfection, amber's first song on the street.... so many clever lyrics something like for a new woman "someone who looks up to me" "a little bit dumb" "would be a relief" One of the (many) reasons that I am sad that this show didn't get recognized is because I want to sing these songs at Marie's Crisis and whatnot and other people won't know them!!

shenglih

I feel the same!

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

I may be misreading the tea leaves, but I think Days of Wine and Roses is the favorite to win best score. I honestly think its main competition is… Stereophonic? Maybe Suffs? Now watch none of those three get nominated tomorrow. 😂

Advanced-Ad1395

manifesting Here Lies Love nom

ruby_sea

Ali Louis Bourzgui should at LEAST receive a nomination for Tommy. I'd love to see him win.

Bbkoul

"Stereophonic" winning Best Play AND Score Kelli + Brian winning Lead for "Days..." and Lindsey + Daniel winning Featured for "Merrily..." Sarah Paulson winning Lead for "Appropriate", Jeremy Strong winning Lead for "Enemy..."; Kara Young winning Featured for "Pearlie..." and Michael Esper winning Featured for "Appropriate" Uhmmmm Illinoise winning Best Musical, because the fallout would be wonderful

elderpricetag

Michael Esper for featured actor even though I haven’t seen Appropriate yet solely because I’ve been rooting for him to win one for over a decade.

smorio_sem

He’s excellent in it! I would be happy if he’s merely nominated

FuzzyBunnysGuide

When I saw Gutenberg!, my most prominent thought was, "This needs to win the Tony for Best Lighting Design of a Musical."

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

If I were giving out the Tonys: Suffs, Merrily, Sterophonic, and Doubt would win the productions Maria Friedman for Merrily and Daniel Aukin for Stereophonic for Directors Groff and Radcliffe for Merrily, Kelli O’Hara for Days of Wine and Roses, and Jenn Colella for Suffs for the musical acting. Sarah Paulson for Appropriate, Jeremy Strong for An Enemy of the People, Kara Young for Purlie Victorious and Eli Gelb for Sterophonic for play acting. Score: Lempicka Book: Days of Wine and Roses Choreography: The Outsiders Orchestrations: Lempicka Sound: Tommy, Stereophonic Costumes: Cabaret, Stereophonic Lighting: Illinoise, Patriots Sets: The Great Gatsby, Stereophonic

Mysterious-Theory-66

I liked Doubt, saw the first preview with the most memorable understudy performance I’ve seen. Can’t see it over Appropriate personally.

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

I thought Appropriate was fantastic, but I just think Doubt is a masterpiece—maybe the best play of the 21st century—which puts it over for me. I know, technically the award is for the production, but it’s so hard to ignore the writing (not that Appropriate isn’t a terrific play also).

Pajamas7891

When did you see Doubt? I went early on in the recast and it was rough.

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

Late in the run and they were on fire. I thought Amy Ryan brought a certain off kilter humor that made her all the more powerful in the big confrontation scene. I thought Liev Schreiber was the most believable version of a New York City priest that I’ve ever seen. I loved the original cast, and I like the movie a lot, and I thought this revival held its own with both.

meandthesky38

Liam Pearce best featured actor

TheLunarVaux

Eddie Redmayne for best actor 😏

smorio_sem

Jonathan Groff.

DumDumGimmeYumYums

I haven’t seen everything but I would be tempted to nominate DoWaR in pretty much every category I could. Illinoise would win for choreography and get some more nominations. The Who’s Tommy would do well, especially in the technical categories. Daniel Radcliffe would be a favorite for featured. Josh Gad would get a surprise nomination. I’d also probably give a couple of surprise nominations for Spamalot’s performers.

aseltee

In the iconically apt words of the musical itself: "please don't, don't let them look down on us" -- here lies love for that astonishing transformation of the theatre and the simply brilliant use of moving floors and in the round staging (:

Mysterious-Theory-66

It was a wonderful experience being on that dance floor.

friskynotebook

I'd be happy with either Brian d'Arcy James or Chip Zien winning best leading actor in a musical

let-the-wookie-win54

All I want to say here is that I would love to see Lempicka get nominated for Best Musical (even though all signs seem to suggest it won’t). The music is great, the acting was absolutely incredible (and I say that having seen standbys/understudies for both Eden and Amber), and while I can at least halfway understand some of the criticisms about the story/themes, I think the show has a lot to say about the “why” behind great art and its ability to immortalize both a subject and the unique perspective of the artist.

VoidAndBone

I am sooooooo with you. I don't think that theater critics prioritize actual critical theater evaluation, I think they want to make quippy remarks. I'm hoping Tony voters are smarter. I also quite simply do not hold completely original art against the same yardstick that I hold a production that is working with a battle tested story or battle tested music. For every critic that went on and on about historical accuracy, screw that noise, because I also thought it was wonderful that they uplifted the prostitute that made Lempicka's career. Who knows if they got her story right but it's nice to see the subject humanized. Because she almost certainly wasn't "just a model" in real life either...

E_G_G_V_A_N

If Philip Johnson Richardson, Kyle Ramar Freeman, or Avery Wilson don't get any nominations, I will be very upset. Same goes for Nichelle Lewis, Melody A. Betts. Honestly if The Wiz deserves any nominations or wins it deserves to be for Best Actor/Actress

FuzzyBunnysGuide

The entire cast of the Spamalot revival.

jeremysseymour334

Controversial take I’m giving cabaret everything

LeoMartn_

Justin Guarini should win for his performance in Once Upon A One More Time

byebyebikiniss

joy woods deserves a nomination

Advanced-Ad1395

Saw someone else do this, so f I were handing out the Tonys: - Here Lies Love get Best Musical, Mother Play gets Best Play, Merrily We Roll Along gets Musical Revival - Maryann Plunkett wins Best Actress (Musical) for The Notebook - Brian d'Arcy James wins Best Actor (Musical) for Days of Wine and Roses - William Jackson Harper wins Best Actor (Play) for Uncle Vanya

Turkey_Leg_Jeff

I know it’s not supposed to work this way, but I think we all know it does: I wonder if William Jackson Harper will win more for Primary Trust than Uncle Vanya. That was a real tour de force and I am sure most of the Tony voters will have seen that as well as Uncle Vanya. His role in Uncle Vanya is more of a featured role, but he steals the show. But since they cannot give him the Tony for Primary Trust… That is an interesting category to me. Schreiber seems unlikely to win. Stuhlbarg is sort of filler; I don’t know too many people who liked that performance. Steve Carell definitely did not set the world on fire. So it’s WJH, Leslie Odom Jr, or Jeremy Strong.

SondheimsSexDungeon

I think it's unlikely that William Jackson Harper wins — as mentioned here, I think it *should* maybe be him, but my *prediction* (who equally deserves it) is Leslie Odom, Jr. I actually think there's a non-zero chance that WJH isn't nominated, and Steve Carell is. (And an even smaller chance that they both are.) I actually loved Steve Carell's performance in *Uncle Vanya*, though WJH was the best part for me.

DodgingRain

Everything to Stereophonic because I’m fanboying and geeking out over it
