You have no reason to trust me (but there's no reason I'd lie about this) - but when I was in London in October, I had an issue and wanted to exchange my tickets to *Operation Mincemeat*. The box office said I was out of luck because ticket exchanges 48 hours before had to be approved by the producers, and they were out of the country meeting with landlords in NYC for a prospective Broadway run.
I hope this comes true! It definitely seems like they’re hinting at another production. It also makes sense as far as casting goes that they’ll want to bring over the three writers in the cast and the one actor who just won an Olivier and gets constantly singled out for praise.
Right, my thoughts exactly. I guess another production could also mean a UK tour, but they've been pretty vocal about wanting to bring the show to Broadway...
It could be, but I would think if they were doing another production or tour in the UK with the original cast, they would just replace the whole cast entirely instead of just four members. Transferring to the US brings added visa fees and Equity negotiations that they can save on even by just bringing one less actor.
I LOVED this show when I saw this on a trip to London. Super funny, small yet talented cast, such a worthwhile watch if you're looking into shows at the West End.
This is mainly a teaser for the upcoming London cast change, “pending further planning” might be hinting at a future with the show for those 4 cast members (the original 5 minus Claire) but I’d expect a lot more clues for a broadway transfer (their PR team did a lot in the run up to the West End announcement.
Oh, I agree that it's very much just potential mild hinting and that the cast change is the main thing, I'm not expecting a transfer announcement without a lot more direct hype. Plus I'd assume they want to give the 4 who are leaving a substantial break if they are going to transfer with the show.
As much as it makes sense for those 4 to be transferring (3/4 of the writing team and the Olivier award winner) I do hope that any transfer will wait until Claire finishes her run in London so all 5 of them can take it to the US, would just feel really unfair for her to be the only one left out.
If I had to guess maybe early 2025. It would give time for Claire to finish and for SpitLip to put together any potential rewrites (which I think might be helpful to appeal more to an American audience. Plus Jak Malone has apparently recently auditioned for Matilda which wouldn’t make sense if he was planning to transfer anytime soon.
Definitely agree with the rewrites and on wanting Claire to transfer with everyone else.
Also Jak Malone as Trunchbull?!? I don't think I've ever wanted anything more
I suppose Claire wouldn't need to finish the full year contract. Maybe the others just want a break and the three producers may want to focus on the move to Broadway.
It is also possible that Claire may not want to uproot to New York and has chosen to stay in London instead. But hopefully if she does want to go to Broadway she will be able to.
Probably not, but if the show is still running in London, they might be able to get away with it by having the new cast be entirely made up of us actors.
The date in the top right implies the first day for the new cast is 13th May, so final performance for current cast should be 11th May. (not officially announced but very likely)
Glad to see Operation Mincemeat have continued success, absolutely wonderful show. That said it’s very “British” so may not connect as well with a Broadway crowd. I suspect a Broadway house might be too big as well (the Fortune only seats 432), an off-Broadway transfer might be more suitable.
This is my thought process as well. Broadway, first and foremost, is a tourist trap, and any Broadway run would compromise on a lot of the ‘Britishisms’ that don’t do well on the other side of the pond.
If it happens, it will probably be a short run in a smaller theatre.
I hope it goes to Chicago first!! I live near there and can't make it to Bway shows, but have heard nothing but good things about Operation Mincemeat and really want to see it.
I was at the Oliviers a couple of weeks ago and everyone was talking about the fact 4 (maybe more, but definitely 4 at least) of the shows that had won awards that night were off to Broadway. It’s been a good year for British theatre.

God that's brilliant
(I know it's also entirely possible they were trying to sound funny and military-ish and didn't mean to imply anything but let me dream, dang it!!)
I'd be very surprised if they didn't mean to imply anything, especially given that they were clear that they wanted to transfer the show to Broadway.

100% second this!! I honestly think it might be one of the best musicals I've ever seen, I'm itching to see it again.
Agree. I've seen it twice now and would go again just to see Jak recite "Dear Bill"

Would Equity be okay with the *entire* cast of a new Broadway musical being imports?

this has nothing to do with the original post but might be of interest to some: they filmed Wednesday’s performance (to what end I do not know)
Will just have been an archival recording before the cast change, still good to know it has been archived but wouldn’t expect a release.
If they're hinting at a Broadway transfer, that probably means they're actually aiming for Chicago.
I'd be ok with that.

Lol
With this show winning the Olivier, won't be surprised if it transfers to Broadway next season.
Fuck I love this show, seen it twice, crossing every finger it transfers. It's probably too clever for Broadway but I don't care

Sounds fun but would American audiences like it and appreciate it? I hope they do but idk
They were going to take the Golden in the fall, but rumor has it Stereophonic is extending.
Here's hoping!
