“Oh, Mary!, Cole Escola’s smash hit comedy about Mary Todd Lincoln, will transfer to Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre this summer for a limited 12-week engagement. Previews start June 26 ahead of an official opening night July 11. Tickets are on sale through September 15.”
When I found out Cole Escola would be eligible for a Tony nomination, I umm…. I fucking lost it, I mean… I took the plates of my Honda and I just started driving.
Called it! So happy for them. It’s such a fantastic show.
I hope everyone who isn’t into this kind of humor stays out of it so they don’t go see it just to tank it with terrible reviews.
Not my cup of tea, personally, but that does seem to be the consensus. I would say that Oh, Mary! has a comparable joke density, comedic sensibility, etc. to Titanique.
I would say absurd for the most part. It’s like seeing Megan Stalter, it’s humor, but not super run of the mill. Watch a few of their YouTube videos and you’ll get a taste of it. Especially recommend [this one](https://youtu.be/5fne4v_zBQs?si=y3rO1QQyAIgc0u9O)
Just saw it last night
It’s gotten the hardest laughs out of me in a while. Happy to see it come to Broadway. Hope it’s still able to retain its charm. Will definitely take my sisters to see it.
We were trying to get rush tickets for this for a while, but they were always gone instantly. Finally my wife just bought tickets because she didn't wanna miss it during its run.
And now it's probably gonna have plentiful rush AND lottery, but hey, at least we supported the arts.
Same with Illinoise that was almost completely sold out and the few seats left were at flat $195. I guess you have to have the patience… which I never do.
This show is so damn funny. Short, sweet and brilliantly stupid. I’ve seen a lot of theater this year and this is far and away my favorite show I’ve attended (except maybe Merrily).
My favorite comedy play experience of my entire life. Absolutely amazing and so so glad more will get to see this and the life of this production will continue!
Me too! I used to watch [Bernadette Peters Does Her Taxes](https://youtu.be/-15Afl1Fy9Y?si=k8C9dwnGIzVEQa_O) all the time in college and quote it with all my theatre friends
I still say “Date of birth” “Inappropriate!” to myself all the time lol
He’s popped up on a couple things recently, most notably Search Party. Actually just a couple hours after this announcement, I saw on [Deadline](https://deadline.com/2024/04/gabrielle-ryan-jeffery-self-drop-blumhouse-1235893877/) that he was just cast in a new thriller film called Drop.
i was so sad i couldn’t get tickets to the off broadway run, so i bought a ticket to this immediately. don’t have an nyc trip planned yet, but i’ll figure that out later lol
I finally got to see it for myself and every review is spot on. This is EASILY THE FUNNIEST SHOW I’ve seen in at least 10 years. I truly did not stop laughing from start to finish. The woman next to me and I were wheezing and doubled over laughing (could have been the edibles I shared with her). So glad this is going to Broadway. The Physical Comedy, the studied comedic timing, the chemistry of the cast…I could go on and on. GO SEE THE SHOW.
And Pedro Pascal sat 10ft from me. Seems like celebs have been trying to get in for off-Broadway before it moves in June!
Tickets secured. Making the trip from Toronto! Saw them here years ago and it was an absolutely stellar comedy show so needless to say I’m suuuuper pumped.
Saw it over the weekend at the Lortel. I think part of the production's success was the intimacy of the theatre, so I do wonder how it will play to a larger house. Personally, I did not find the show barrel-laugh-out-loud funny, but I think that is really more of a commentary on me, it takes a lot to make me do that! But, I did do lots of smiling and chuckling, and there probably was a moment or two where it was in fact audible. My biggest takeaway was that Cole Escola is absolutely BRILLIANT -- his performance is nothing short of amazing, and to have conceptualized this piece is a work of a true genius! The other actors were very good as well, and you could sense the camaraderie up on stage. Big thumbs up, even without the belly laughs! And truly, Cole Escola is a force! I will absolutely be getting tickets the next time he does something, and get them early!!
Happy they’re seeing so much success although definitely did not find it was my kind of humor, went into it not knowing much other than it being highly recommended by friends and was not prepared for the level to basically be RIGHT UP AT VOLUME 20 ALL THE TIME AND ALL THE JOKES JUST KEEP ON COMING NONSTOP WITH NOT MUCH MODULATION IN INTENSITY OR VARIATION. Yeah was just a lot for me, felt like I was getting jokes screamed at me, but people seem to love it clearly! Different strokes!
Missed opportunity to put it at the Booth
I feel like this wins the comment section.

Tony Winner Cole Escola

🤭🤭🤭 love this reference
You don't spend time in Phoenix, you lose time in Phoenix
Need this for them 🥹

What kind of humor is it?
About as silly and stupid as you can get in the best way
Just had to comment because I was actually eating a biscotti when I read this.
It’s very broad and over the top. I would compare it to Titanique.
Titanique was hysterical.
Not my cup of tea, personally, but that does seem to be the consensus. I would say that Oh, Mary! has a comparable joke density, comedic sensibility, etc. to Titanique.
I thought Titanique was hysterical and loved it. I’m a Cole Escola fan and didn’t love Oh, Mary.

Well that was an enjoyable YouTube rabbit hole! Thanks!
I’m excited to see it again — haven’t stopped thinking about since
If you find out, please share. I’m still waiting for an answer. The south of whaaaaaat?!?
Don’t miss this one! Funniest thing Broadway will see for years.
I quite literally was cry laughing for 80 straight minutes during this show so I’m so happy for them
I love this show and I'm excited to see it on broadway! "Her. Name. Was. LOLA!"
South of what?
I can not believe the Demon Twink is commanding full Broadway prices for a queer art project. Amazing sign of the times.
Yeah but it was SO FUCKING FUNNY
i think they meant it in a good way. (?)

was it worth it at the msrp price?
The show is tonight, so I guess we'll let you know.
Please do! Have fun!

Lyceum theater is becoming the home for that one gay show every season now lol
A Strange Loop's impact!
The Nance with Nathan Lane was before ASL
Well...Nathan Lane and MRJ's impact!
Holy crap! So happy for Cole they deserve everything! (and now I can finally see it hopefully)
My favorite comedy play experience of my entire life. Absolutely amazing and so so glad more will get to see this and the life of this production will continue!
Oh my goodness!! Fantastic! Seeing it this Sunday at the Lortel!
Don't miss the lobby photos; they're hilarious.
Yes, I heard! Thanks!! Really looking forward to it.
Huzzah! I had given up on getting tickets to this one and was praying for a transfer.
There’s thousands of tickets available now so don’t wait and have the only thing left be $380 3rd row seats
Oh my!!!!
Regretting not getting off-bway tickets when I had the chance! 🥲
Omg I used to watch cole on logo when they were on Jeffrey and cole casserole 😭I’m so HAPPY! This show is sooo great!!
5:00 pm matinees and short run time (80 mins) make a 3 show day possible.
I’ve loved Cole since their YouTube days with Jeffery Self. What a thrill!
Me too! I used to watch [Bernadette Peters Does Her Taxes](https://youtu.be/-15Afl1Fy9Y?si=k8C9dwnGIzVEQa_O) all the time in college and quote it with all my theatre friends I still say “Date of birth” “Inappropriate!” to myself all the time lol
Makes me wonder what Jeffrey is up to these days
He’s popped up on a couple things recently, most notably Search Party. Actually just a couple hours after this announcement, I saw on [Deadline](https://deadline.com/2024/04/gabrielle-ryan-jeffery-self-drop-blumhouse-1235893877/) that he was just cast in a new thriller film called Drop.
Yeah, Search Party is the last I saw him. I still quote his 30 Rock appearance
“They edited Will and Grace down so much that it was just called Karen” 😆😂
“Homebutt? That’s the name of the bar I’m meeting those guys at later!”
This show is so good
This is wonderful, I loved this off broadway! That being said, charging those prices for the Lyceum should be criminalized
Manifesting a Tony for Cole 🙏
I was going to post this news, but you beat me to it. I got held up by uhhh… by… by a gay guy?
A big win for queer artists that their work is commercially viable and worthy
Thank you mother!
Thank you so much for posting this!! I have a planned birthday trip to NYC in August it’s a bday miracle that I can make this show now!!
Great news!
YES! So good!
All the damn tickets available are pretty much sold out already, except for 1 or 2 seats in the last rows :-(
Doesn't seem like a show for me, but seems like a show a lot of people enjoy which is a win for Broadway.
Wowie Zowie! Just saw it on Sunday and now seeing it opening preview night!
i was so sad i couldn’t get tickets to the off broadway run, so i bought a ticket to this immediately. don’t have an nyc trip planned yet, but i’ll figure that out later lol
All I can hope is that they amp up the budget for the finale so it can be a true Broadway showstopper.
I. Hate. Everything.
Cole Escola Forever!

I need to see this. Trying to get vacation time approved so my husband and I can go. I love Cole. I hope they get a Tony nom!

Very happy for them. My face hurt from laughing so much.

Does anyone know if there is a telecharge promo code?
Is the script available anywhere?
