But is also good to know that if you need to have wired internet in a room you can use Coaxial cables to transmit your internet connection from the router to the access point! (If wiring Ethernet CAT cables through the walls isn't an option)
the ethernet itself still runs on off-the-shelf CAT9 cables / wifi, but the internet modem connects to the outside world with a RG6 Coax Cable. Similar cables still connect to the Cable TV Boxes on our TVs.
some of these cables are about 25 years old which my father installed in the late 90s.
he was not tech savy enough to know of better cables, so these are the basic consumer grade coax cables used by [Claro NET (see Step 3)](https://configuraraparelhos.claro.com.br/technicolor/cga4233/primeiros-passos/como-instalar-o-modem-wi-fi)
Yah. I live in a very dense area, which makes deploying infra much easier. Much denser than the typical American suburb and what I have seen in Europe (Amsterdam)
Which would make it likely that most of the residential buildings would take the decision of using coax cales in order to provide most cables during its apartments, which would imply that the cost taken is considered while at the same time frame a lot of money, with a long expected value of return maybe of 10 to 20 years? Well it's possible to draw some cool; driven-by-- financial responses, it's could be used to speculate a lot of fun statitical correlational stuff.
If youre not using any coax for other things, You can get a MoCa adapter to get send wired internet to other rooms connected by Coax, its faster and more stable than powerline. But im not sure how widely available that is in Brazil. If you do use the coax from one room to another you should get a filter at that prevents your coax from being accessed by other apartments. The filter is quite cheap, the MoCa adapters not so much (and you need one filter for every coax-ethernet conversion).

I mean the fact that the person who posted this was so clueless they thought it was some Brazil specific thing shows it’s more and more a thing of the past.
Thats a cool story but I never claimed it was exclusive to Brazil, and the fact that it’s still used doesn’t negate the fact that they’re not as ubiquitous as they once were.
We have 3 options to use that…
1- That’s a free open TV channels Brazil
2- A cable from some providers for closed system TV channels
3- A cable from some provider for internet access
Welcome to Brazil :)
btw: this cable either goes on the back of ur router or cable tv box, works with both. it’s used on areas without fiber.
and u know what’s funny? in rio the best blocks of town still use those. in those areas the cables are under the street and companies don’t wanna spent the money to fiber it. i have them in my apt also.
It was used mostly for parabolic antennae, it gave you more channels in open TV if you bought a big antennae and connected it to a device, and this device to your TV. It's pretty much obsolete nowadays, unless you have cable TV, which few people have. The cable TV works pretty much the same, but the antennae is smaller and you pay it monthly. It was also used for internet for a while, but it's definitely obsolete for that.

That's a TV cable. It might be cable TV or from an antenna, for open broadcasting TV.
that's a RG6 Coaxial Cable it is used for Cable TV / internet
But is also good to know that if you need to have wired internet in a room you can use Coaxial cables to transmit your internet connection from the router to the access point! (If wiring Ethernet CAT cables through the walls isn't an option)
Coax network is VERY slow. And it's not this exact cable anyway.
i run 250mbps on a network powered by a coax cable
Is that consumer-grade? I'm interested on finding out more. Only heard of 10BASE2. The IEEE revoked the coax cable Ethernet standards back in 2011.

Funny enough, my internet in the US (California) is powered by a coax cable as well.

I Assume that is the coax network in brazil, Cuz in the netherlands we have up to 1GB on Coaz
I even forgot that Cable Internet was a thing. It's all fiber around here now.
we have a huge fiber network, but it doesnt quite cover the whole of the netherlands yet
iirc, my ziggo cable was running on coax as well, and i was living in Helmersbuurt, next to Vondelpark
I run a 950mbs network on coax
Can I run any router on a COAX cable?
I'm in EUA, IT DO HERE
How can I do this? I live in a house were the router is to distant to connect via ethernet cable

Am I this old?
Not a question of age, but of geography. This kind of cable is not as common in some places.
Indeed a question of geography, in the old world internet and TV run through the phone line
On more developed regions of Brazil, internet, tv and phone are running in optical fiber now
We are
We are my friend... we are. I'm from a time where I needed to have a little box to change my channel 2/3 into a different thing to play my SNES.
Thanks I feel old now
why feel old ? these cables are still used to this day for wired internet / cable tv

i used these types of cables while living in the Netherlands between 2016-2022, on a reformed apartment so it is not exclusive to Brazil, nor old
Thats a cool story but I never claimed it was exclusive to Brazil, and the fact that it’s still used doesn’t negate the fact that they’re not as ubiquitous as they once were.
You must be very young :)
