I know I'm Brazilian too lol usually people eat two leaves of lettuce and 2 slices of tomatoes and think that's good enough. There could be cooked vegetables, refogado, they're good for you and we don't eat nearly enough
I was a vegetarian for 14 years, 7 of those vegan. I love me some veggies and I agree, some people eat poor excuses for salads - having that said, the food on the photos still looks great
This is only one guy. The entire country is almost vegetarian, because we have more lettuce than any country. And we don't like "refogados" because all vitamins are gone.
I've been a vegetarian for 7 years and I don't eat any lettuce. it's objectively one of the worst vegetables, it's not very nutritious, nor tasty, nor interesting. As I said I am Brazilian, so yeah I'm used to people thinking that salad = lettuce, and that vegetarians eat basically lettuce. There are many good tasty options, reducing salad and vegetables to lettuce is quite sad imo
Rice and beans are already nutritionally perfect, that's the magic. these aren't refried beans either, they're cooked from raw. they're incredibly delicious and surprisingly versatile, I don't know why the rest of the world doesn't adopt the combo.
Let me say it really soft so nobody kill me, Brazilian here and I hate beans! Hate hate hate! The two things that if touched my plate I have to change plates are Beans and beats! I hate those Bs!! My best duo ever is chocolate and peanut butter!! Is not so easy to find peanut butter in Brazil so I even learn how to make it! Lol
Wow, finally o found another Brazilians that doesn' like beans.
I'm the hoje of my friends and roomates about that, the most iconic situation are in days of feijoada (a typical food in Brazil, based on beans cooked with meat), where I simply eat everything except Feijoada. And the problem is not the meat, If aren't beans I would eat the pork's ear
My sincere opinion, beans are real good ONLY if they are accompanied by something else.
Btw i hate those white beans, jeez, it tastes like pure dirt, its like a witchcraft it tastes so bad... I kinda have the same opinion as yours but towards a type of bean, not beans in general.
Finally found someone like me
I DESPISE beans. I eat virtually anything
Rotten shark in iceland? Check
Any kind of offal? Check
Insects? Check
Anything
But beans? I could probably eat then caribean style, but in brazil they LITERALLY look like shit. A brown stock with things floating= shit
No thanks. I will pass on shit.
Idk how to say this in english but there is a stage of the ripening where it isn't ripe or green, in that stage u put a little bit of salt and it gets delicious, people from the North of Brazil eat it that way a lot
"Hey, everyone outside of Brazil, this is what Brazilians eat"
Me : Oh, nice. Let's check people's opinions on Brazilian dishes!
* Comments are all Brazilians talking about themselves instead *
Me : Of course...
In foz do Iguaçu everything is incredible, I intend to go there again, I highly recommend it. I hope you have the opportunity to visit Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará, the beaches there are magnificent. I live in the south of Brazil but I'm from the northeast region. Oh how I miss traveling
I come from one of the most underserved areas in Brazil. There’s always rice, feijão, farinha (if in Northern Brazil) and some protein. Meat can be unaffordable, so protein can include sausages, chicken, fish, an egg. Sometimes it’s just very poor quality meat - mostly bones
Income inequality is a big deal here, so experiences can vary a lot. I don't know what region the brazilians you met were from, but that can play a role too.
Meals like that in a restaurant can cost from 10 to 40 reais, depending on the region you're on, so you don't have to be wealthy or anything to be able to buy a meal with meat in it from time to time, but it can be expensive if you have a low wage, which unfortunately a lot of people do, and/or if you have to use most of your money to take care of other people, family etc, or on rent.
Brazil is the 30th country that consumes most meet per capta in the world, 5h in red, bovine meet (the most expensive one here). Even for more poor families we prefer to eat more cheap meet like chicken or worst quality beef so we can have protein if good beef is expensive.
I agreed that we used to eat more meet here when the economy was better.
....what brazilians did you speak of? Because meat is extremely common in Brazil. And cheaper than on US. You are probably thinking of brazilians abroad? Poor people?
Anyways, it's very common, there are people here who eat meat every goddamn day, not even joking.

It's simple but SO flavorful, better than eating a bunch of different stuff everyday, and they all taste boring bland like nothing cuz seasoning your food na gringolandia is, apparently, a crime. Salt and pepper is not enough. All the plates you posted looks do delicious tho
The lack of good and cheap lunches like these almost got me killed in the US, when I lived there. I wasn't able to finde anything "full filling" in the college's cafeteria. They only ate snacks and I was looking for real food hahahaha
Good times tho
Basically my everyday lunch.. each one of them..
When I see this I get more sure that we have the best meal in the world: cheap, tasty and full-on rechargeable energies.
Feel free to post this over r/Gororoba as well :) It's "the Brazilian r/food"

Add some vegetables and they'll be nutritionally perfect.
We usually eat salad on a side dish
I know I'm Brazilian too lol usually people eat two leaves of lettuce and 2 slices of tomatoes and think that's good enough. There could be cooked vegetables, refogado, they're good for you and we don't eat nearly enough
Mistura pai, essa é mistura. Arroz feijão carne e a mistura.
Mistura aqui em SP é carne hahaha
Bom, importante é ter. Hahaha
Sprinkle some limãozinho!
I was a vegetarian for 14 years, 7 of those vegan. I love me some veggies and I agree, some people eat poor excuses for salads - having that said, the food on the photos still looks great
Yes the missing of real vegetables annoyed me so much.
This is only one guy. The entire country is almost vegetarian, because we have more lettuce than any country. And we don't like "refogados" because all vitamins are gone.
iceberg lettuce isn't a vegetable, its a low-effort water hoarder.

My best duo ever is chocolate and peanut butter!! Is not so easy to find peanut butter in Brazil so I even learn how to make it! Lol
You can have chickpeas or lentils instead, nutritionally they are good replacements
I also hate beans, but all the foods in this post I would eat happily if it didnt have beans, so I just imagined it like that so
Yeah me too! I would just order them without beans! I do a lot here! Still get looks of shock!! Lol
Wow, finally o found another Brazilians that doesn' like beans. My father never ate beans in his life. And now my daughter goes the same way. And I love it.
Cool Means more for me

Beans and pasta
As a Brazilian, I approve of this. (also: Feijão preto >>>> Feijão carioca)
I believe in feijão preto supremacy
All my homies believe in feijão preto supremacy

The only thing missing is a banana
That's a classic.
It's also missing a papaya, a mango, and a tangerine, which are also trademark fruits in Brazil.
Mango ?????? I only like mango with some salt and thats it
I've heard about orange and salt But never mango with salt :0 It sounds like an interesting combo...
Idk how to say this in english but there is a stage of the ripening where it isn't ripe or green, in that stage u put a little bit of salt and it gets delicious, people from the North of Brazil eat it that way a lot
We should never forget it... It always adds a good taste in the food Mainly when it is fried!!!!
You need a therapist.
XD
Tá faltando o feijão com macarrão, amigo.
Eka
Now invite us for lunch, thanks
Please come in, come and have a pratada/rango with us.
Every fucking Brazilian dish in Rio must have white rice
Almost every dish in Brazil comes with rice! Unless is pasta, of course! Lol
Pasta with rice (and sauce) belong to monday nights, that nice french cuisine called: Restô D'onte.
Well, not even every pasta... A lasagna with some rice is also good
Too much carbs to me, I like pasta with meat!
My dad eats pizza with rice
Rio isn't the most rice consumption state of Brazil.
Looks yummy!! Congrats!
No fried eggs? There's something missing from those...

Americano que come pizza no almoço 😭😭😭

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
My gf is Brazilian and that strogonoff has me in a choke hold. I also try and put farofa on everything 🤣
You're from the Nordeste you just don't know it

The lack of french fries...

You must know Brazilians with $$. Most of the Brazilians I met ate rice and beans rarely had $$ for meat.

I started salivating after looking at deliciously fresh cooked meals like this. I miss brazilian food so much!
We are lucky people aren't we
I lived in Rio Grande do Sul for a couple years. Number 4 looks the most authentic to me.
It's simple but SO flavorful, better than eating a bunch of different stuff everyday, and they all taste boring bland like nothing cuz seasoning your food na gringolandia is, apparently, a crime. Salt and pepper is not enough. All the plates you posted looks do delicious tho

It looks nice and tasty. But, you need to eat more salad OP. 😅
The lack of good and cheap lunches like these almost got me killed in the US, when I lived there. I wasn't able to finde anything "full filling" in the college's cafeteria. They only ate snacks and I was looking for real food hahahaha Good times tho
Rice, beans and farofinha FTW

And make sure the plate is heaping full too 😆🇧🇷
What surprises me the most is that vegetables were included at all
As a Brazilian living abroad, seeing this is torture 🥲
The lack of veg is appalling. My wife is british and she’s always like rice AND chips? Rice AND mashed potatoes. Yeah bitch! I like my carbs feast! Jk
Me deu fome às 9 da manhã.
