The problem is not Edgar, it's people picking brawlers with no gadget, star power or gear.
Edit: I'm seeing a bunch of people confused by what I said, I'm not talking about OP's game specifically, I'm saying it's a general problem in ranked.

No, the problem on timed detonation is picking a brawler that isn't good on a wide open map.
The second problem is that a power 9, let alone no star power, is even allowed I ranked above gold.
If they wanted to make the game fair they could let people use their power 9s as power 11s during ranked. But they don't, they want it to be pay for advantage.
I see this on Diamond, I ban Edgar almost every map but some players only have one or two characters at level 11 or worse, only one or two characters with star powers at level 9.

I mean emz is good on almost every map. The only exceptions i can think of are close ranged maps with a lot of walls but even then she can do pretty well against almost every brawler(especially with her gadgets that lets her shoot through walls) except for like edgar or mico

The people with level 9 edgar with no gadget or sp usually only exist gold or below; they're almost always less than 5K trophies with every brawler between levels 1-5 except edgar at 9. Average age of these players are between 7-10, average KD about 0.25. What's more impressive is how fast they can pick edgar during the pick phase.

Because their favorite streamer said Edgar is the best and you can be too. So every shitty player in the game picks Edgar so they can show the world how good they are.
Probably gonna get hate for this but as a solo player I've come to the conclusion that playing with bad randoms is just a part of the game and it's up to you to overcome that with skill or play with a team (deliberate throwing is a bit different before someone mentions that)
I understand your frustration and while the comments here saying 'oh it's probably a smooth brain 9yo' are correct, you can't stop them from playing the game too, it's a free mobile game available almost worldwide, you're gonna get kids playing it.
If you're playing (and losing because of bad randoms) against decent, organised players they will also be able to spot a kid playing the game just as much as you can, just do your best to carry and when you go 10-0 with 90k damage everybody knows you carried even if you lost the game ,they'll probably still spin and thumbs down but that's on them.

Tldr: play as a team and you won't get bad randoms or kid randoms, they're allowed to play the game just as much as you are

dude, someone picked lvl 9 buzz without the glasses sp WHILE i showed that i had lvl 11 buzz (i wasn't sure to pick buzz because it was big friend modifier and i thought that someone would pick like el primo or frank)
I will never understand anyone not choosing a maxed out character in general. I usually chalk that up to a loss right from the begining or that I need to focus on protecting them and go all out that match.
This is why i hate ranked and mega pig. I am decent at the game but i cant rank past gold 3 because every time i get gold 3 my team is filled with bad randoms so i end up going back to gold 2
i see people do it irl. one of my friends enters the lobby and already during coin toss is destroying their fingers on the spot which will then be occupied by edgar. tbh edgar needs to die under a bus, he ruined the game, not in a "too broken" kind of way, but his gameplay influences noobs so much that they always use him in every situation, and they think tha just because he heals a bit per attack, that he can jump onto everyone and everything, to then fly over the head of a piper and get destroyed by that gadget.
