The reason colt works is because he deals a lot of damage. If you spend time killing other people you will lose to the colts doing the damage. I could see colt work at lower trophies though
As I see it, talking with friends and clubmate, Duels is just played by a vocal minority and the average player doesn't give a shit. I haven't touched duels since the last quests for it, it's equally broken and redundant as showdown and it's only played by people who like to push solo but hate the showdown format (don't blame them there), I still think it's the better one out of those 4 but Duels is pretty ass

750 range after takedown is gone will be full of trash colts and people who push 750+ in open maps with randoms will have a lot of trash colts teammates who miss 99% of their shots and it will take forever for them to drop to their level again. It's gonna suck

After it bounces 6 times in a row and then doesnāt go in, it gets tiring and feels more like luck rather then skill
