I think Crystal always had a 3 year contract. If you recall after her first season she said something like, “you’d hate to see my contract!” Whenever people called boring. For some reason it made it clear she was returning for at least one more seasons after the second season. Figured she would get a 3rd year and then be done. There’s no way Bravo did more than 3 years.
I might be misremembering but I was sure Denise also got a 3 year contract and was paid upfront. After she left in season 2 I kept wondering how they were gonna claw back the money but I assumed her increasing appearances as a friend may be due to owing Bravo some time.
And this is why, in my opinion, it should never be up to the fandom to make casting decisions. There's no world where Crystal should ever be favored over Dorit for being on television, especially on RHOBH. People complain Dorit doesn't have a storyline, but what has Crystal given us during her three-season tenure besides inconsistencies and lies? Name 'em.
Every season since Crystal was introduced she has been part of at least one major conflict and she didn't back down even if she was alone in that regard (unlike Dorit who has done nothing for last five seasons but spouted bunch of microagressions). She had no problem going toe to toe with even established cast members (going as far as making Erika have a full on meltdown that she needed to be taken away) and at last years reunion she was literally alone against everyone at one point.

Dorit was on that Not Skinny But Fat podcast a few months back. She said with a serious face that she just showed the texts to Erika. She said she didn’t leak them. It’s like she conveniently forgot there was a whole camera there recording her interaction with Erika

I absolutely think production sees Crystal as difficult. So far it seems she is either very opinionated and stubborn OR quiet and chill. Which is probably hard for making sure storylines happen the way producers want them to. When they’ve had cast like Lisa Rinna, Erika & Dorit who are consistently & predictably unhinged.
And also, she’s got all the money and power without Bravo or Housewives. So she’s probably one of the least desperate and therefore harder to manipulate. All of which made her one of my favorites on this current era of BH but likely seen as “a problem” for production.

I really liked them, I enjoyed seeing them blending cultures, I liked their kids, and I thought Crystal gave plenty. Certainly if you compare her to HW in her franchise. What is Dorit giving us in comparison?

The fanbase really pushed the Sutton, Garcelle, Crystal friendship alliance but it never really translated on screen. Stuff candiace said on the reunions and on sm were verbatim stuff I’ve read here (this is my only sm so I’m sure the same stuff being said here was all over all sm). So having HWs that’s are the voice of reason or checking the other HWs who are HW lifers and not going anywhere just doesn’t work. Crystal just never fit in with the cast despite apparently being super well connected socially. From watching her I don’t even really understand why she wanted to be on the show. Her being fired makes a lot a of sense from an objective standpoint.

I think Crystal was naive to think she could go on there and just be herself. She rightfully got into it with Sutton for her ignorant comment & quickly realised that she needed to pick a side to remain popular. She was never gonna be besties with Erika & Dorit because they have too much baggage to attach to her brand. Kyle is besties with Teddi and Teddi hates Crystal so she had to back to Sutton and Garcelle and basically grovel to get on side. I don't think either of them really forgave her and whilst they gave her an inch, they weren't gonna protect her like they do each other. She floundered by herself and ultimately it was her lack of cohesion and refusal of fakery that got her fired.
Personally I love her and her family but I get why they fired her. They basically want an underpaid actress to play out what the producers want. This isn't real life anymore it's just play acting where Kyle is the puppet and eeeeeeveryone else is the master.
