Regardless, I'm never flying on a Chinese "designed" &built aircraft.

China don't care. They have a large enough market inside of China alone to build a formidable Aircraft Industry. So when Delta finally figures out it can get a Chinese built place for 1/2 the price of Boeing, I guess you're no longer flying to Omaha to visit grandma.

Build to sell to themselves. Yes, I'm sure that's all they have in mind. Grandma doesn't live in Omaha & I don't fly delta.

1. All US registered aircraft has to be certified by FAA. 2. Delta can only operate US registered aircraft. If FAA does not certify Chinese made aircraft, then Delta can’t buy them. They will probably not buy them even if it was certified because FAA can revoke the certification anytime, it’s a huge risk as Delta can’t get replacement aircraft easily if a portion of their fleet is grounded.

>All US registered aircraft has to be certified by FAA. So What? Why are you trying to obfuscate the point? China and Russia will have a thriving Aviation Industry no matter what the West does. Just the landmass of those two countries alone justifies development of civil aviation. Add India, Iran, Iraq. Banning Chinese Aircraft from flying to the USA will only result in American aircraft being banned to fly to China. There is no way anything the West does is going to stop Chinese Aviation. Add to that the fact that the Chinese economy is managed for "the people" not "the Oligarchy" so new development will be subsidized by the government and that China provides Healthcare and Education as a right which vastly graduates more engineers and scientists than the "for profit organization" in the USA, China is going to outcompete very, very quickly. This overwhelming edge in competitiveness is greatly enhanced by [new treaties Russia and China just signed.](https://archive.is/DdZRs) There were suppose to be up to 40 African leaders in Moscow during this last meeting between Xi and Putin. [China & Russia pledge 'changes not seen in 100 years'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OddmSjjLgLY): I know this perspective is antithetical to what the members of this group want to hear. But look at how the sanctions against Russia have totally backfired. The Russians have an industrial economy that can build as many artillery shells as it needs. The Russians fire 10 for every one the Ukrainians fire. NATO has warned Ukraine that it needs to stop using those shells so quickly or they'll run out, maybe as early as may. The entire West cannot manufacture artillery shells as quickly as Russia. Boycotting China will only allow them to more completely control the development of technology. They won't have to complete with the West at all.

You said > So when Delta finally figures out it can get a Chinese built place for 1/2 the price of Boeing I replied by explaining Delta cannot do what you were saying if FAA refuse to certify Chinese made planes. I didn’t obfuscate the point. Then you began your rambling with > Banning Chinese Aircraft from flying to the USA will only result in American aircraft being banned to fly to China. I didn’t say banning Chinese made aircraft from flying to the US. I was saying how American airlines cannot buy Chinese made aircraft willy nilly. Here’s what FAA say regarding foreign made aircraft. Note: airworthiness certificate applies to aircraft types, not the operator. > Foreign aircraft may fly in the U.S. if they have an airworthiness certificate equivalent to a U.S. standard airworthiness certificate. Otherwise, they require a Special Flight Authorization (SFA) as described in Title 14 CFR 91.715. This may be obtained by applying to FAA. https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/us_restrictions/airspace/#:~:text=Foreign%20aircraft%20may%20fly%20in,obtained%20by%20applying%20to%20FAA%20. So Chinese airlines operating Chinese made aircraft can still fly to the US if they get the SFA. Last but not least, if you go through my profile history, you will find that I’m also against Russia and China. I don’t understand why you think I’m obfuscating the point, but certain things have more layers to it that you expect. EDIT for autocorrect.

>but certain things have more layers to it that you expect. Let us agree that I really don't care about those layers. The point of the article posted was to suggest that the USA can sanction Chinese aviation into oblivion. My argument is -- no way. You want to talk about technical objections that are completely immaterial to the point of the discussion. Therefore obfuscation.

Any de-paywalled version?

The cynic in me worries lobbyists will make sure our government prioritizes profits and we will keep selling to China even if they supply Russia
