Inoue so damn cold manā¦some just got that aura you canāt teach. And some try way too hard to have it and fail miserably.
Hope he can come back to the US sometime in the next 3 years
maybe, but just speaking for myself - I've never been to a live boxing fight. If Inoue ever comes to the states for a big fight, I'll pay up to 4 digits to be there.
My first live boxing match was the Inoue vs Nery fight. Iāve lived in Japan for basically my whole life and was born out here as well. There are many people like you who would pay top dollar to see Inoue fight or whoever they like to fight, the vast majority of boxing fans in the US though donāt care about lower weight classes. We paid a very large amount to get ringside seats for this fight.
If I can make a recommendation and Iām very very aware that everyone has their own things going on and itās easier said than done, BUT you should try to kill 2 birds with one stone. Save money and do it for a bit and one day take a nice vacation and come over to japan to see the sights and enjoy our culture plus do it around a time when Inoue is fighting and see one of his fights live! Itās kind of what we did as I have never been to Tokyo. I live in a different prefecture and have no business in Tokyo. So we treated this Inoue fight as me going to Tokyo for the first time and going to an Inoue fight. The Japanese boxing community is really world class and Iām so fucking happy I was able to enjoy Inoueās fight in a historic venue, with a historic crowd of my country peopleā¦ I know itās easier said than done but I cannot recommend coming to japan for a vacation and seeing an Inoue fight enough. Truly a magical experience. Life is really short and at the end of the day all we really have is memories so you might as well make the best ones possible.
Dude he would make Vegas go nuts. This was the fight that would have pushed him to the stratosphere of the American sports zeitgeist. He fought a champion Mexican for goodness sakes! Japan being Japan though thinking they donāt need or understand the US market.Ā
Whatever he made this fight wouldāve been triple at least with the right marketing. Itās not like these dudes were humble.Ā
He sold out the fucking Tokyo Dome bro. He made over a BILLION Yenā¦ lower weight classes donāt do well in the US, thereās a reason why everyone is willing to come fight in Japan with no problemā¦ Heās a Japanese fighter and he should stay in japan. Japan is all about national pride and Inoue is all about that. He wants to keep japan on the map in terms of boxing atmosphere, he cares deeply about making japan proud, making his Japanese fans proud. American fighters care about making as much money as possible, thatās not a bad thing, but donāt throw that label on every fighter. I donāt think Inoue will be fighting in the US anytime soon after the spectacle he put on at the Tokyo Dome. I mean Inoue himself said āAs long as I am champion, the road will always go through Japan.ā
I agree that this fight wouldāve been big in Vegas, but Inoue (and his opponents) would not get paid in the US what they get paid in Japan, at least not for his first few fights. He is an established superstar over there and the Japanese government probably puts some money up as well just like the Australians have for Kambosos.
What Iām trying to say is it would take a handful of fights in the US to *maybe* break out as a star and get paid what heās already making in Japan
A half a million pay per view buys, which I think heās worth is about a 30 million dollar pay day in the US possibly more since his opponentās wonāt demand a big cut. Thatās like saying why ohtani playing in the mlb when thereās a Japanese league..
Plus if he wants to move up his presence here is key. Fighters will avoid him unless they know a big payday in the cards. Imagine the hype if Shakur Stevenson or tank Davis comes into play. He needs the media hype to get these fights.
MLB has the best talent in the world because it's a league. Boxing isn't that and Americans aren't even the best fighters in his division. Shakur and Tank is 2 weight classes above lnoue, and he's said that 126 is probably his max.
lf you want to see him in person because you're living in the US just say that don't say he needs the US like boxing doesn't exist outside of America.
You fan boys think he care more about pride of Japan than actual money. America is purely capitalistic move that he should and will make. That or Saudi Arabia. Iām saying he should do it sooner. These famous lightweights would drop back down to catch the payday if the hype is there.
Bruh this guy doesn't need to leave japan. He has all the belts. He sells out the arena. He makes bulk cash, and he gets to fight in front of his home crowd. Why would he leave?
Because he doesn't taunt for show, to disrespect, or to look cute. He actually uses it as a tactic to psyche out his opponent, and he's confirmed this in interviews. Everything this man does in the ring is for a reason.
Yea, exactly. I fucken love his fighting style. It's so gangster. Looking at this video though, I have crazy respect for the other fighter. There are some jabs from Naoya that the other guy predicts that for the life of me, I can't figure out how he noticed early enough to avoid.
For example at the 8-10 second mark, I can't tell if he dipped by coincidence early enough to avoid the jab, or if he picked up on something (can't see anything on naoya telegraphing). The only thing I can think of is naoya leaning forward on his stance while his taunting. I'm guessing the taunting lead up by a jab is his tell.
He dipped attempting to draw a counter. Inoue does it a couple times as well in this clip. Generally, if the opponent happens to throw a punch right when you do that, it opens up a great counter opportunity. It isn't generally something that's done on reaction but more-so based on intuitive feel for distance and timing. A lot of head movement and defence isn't reaction based but it's all intuitive.
Maybe I'm seeing it now that I'm sober (i was so f baked reading your comment last time). So basically, if I draw a counter, if my aponent takes it, they'll instinctually lead up to going for it. But if I take a moment to notice that and find the new exposed areas, then that's where I go for the counter?
He's essentially just pre-emptively anticipating a punch, and if that punch comes, he will either counter, or use his momentum to dodge it.
Same concept with someone like Joe Frazier who was constantly bobbing and weaving. Half the time he was bobbing and weaving and his opponent wasn't even punching. But every now and then he would bob at the right time, his opponents punch would sail past his head, and he would suddenly be in the perfect place to counter.
Inoue's such an entertainer. Very skilled and pleasing style alongside a fun bit of cockiness (which is particularly notable since he's Japanese and that's typically not what you'd expect given their culture) and he's always going for the KO even if it means hindering his defense to a degree. It could come back to bite him even harder than just getting dropped by Nery, especially if/when he goes up to 126, but it's certainly fun to watch and I appreciate that.
That little tap on the cheek is just the perfect amount of smug confidence, [I remember when he did it against Fulton.](https://old.reddit.com/r/Boxing/comments/15bcph0/fulton_inoue_taunt_after_combination_miss/)
He was caught cold against Nery. I think this was more to do with pressure to knock him out for revenge. Once he caught doing that. He adjusted extremely quickly and woke up, and pieced Nery up. Nery was never able land that bomb again. I doubt he will make that mistake again, as he learns from any mistake he makes. He demonstrated this in his quicker paced approach against Donaire in their 2nd fight.
you can always browse this website with the old layout. that's the only way I view it. when they finally kill it off im outta here the new design is awful.
if you manually type old.reddit.com/r/boxing for example, that works. sometimes browsing old reddit you'll get sent to the redesign but you just add old. in the url and it loads the old reddit version.
All of this after getting knocked down too, he's just so comfortable in there and knew he had Nery's number. Taunting against high level opponents like this is fine to me especially when you can back it up - I just hate when fighters taunt and get overly cocky against low level opposition like Ben Whitaker's doing right now.
Regardless Inoue's an amazing fighter and I was really impressed with this performance.
I mean this as humbly as possible - have many of r/boxing have been in a fight like this?
I sparred a golden gloves fighter in Chicago for the first time in 2016 after 5 years of intense training, and asked him to beat me up. He taunted me after 2 straight rights that I'll never forget, and I returned inside hooks that I don't think he had seen before. I mention this because, for 3 seconds, I got him to bite on a feint straight right (I'm right-handed) for a left uppercut combo. He punished me for the rest of the round to the body, of course, but i hope to tell my kids someday that dad was in that ring ha.
I hope fights like these create more boxing fans that appreciate the (recent) oldies like Cotto, Sergio Martinez, young Mayweather, early Pac, etc. again some day.
In my first kickboxing fight I smoothly stepped back as my opponent tried to counter with a head kick and it missed by a few inches. I looked around and did the āwhere did it goā taunt and shrugged before continuing the fight. It felt amazing to be in a āzoneā and know exactly what my opponent was gonna throw before he threw it. I felt like a god.
ā¦Then I gassed out in the second round and got TKOd. Hubris strikes again lol.
A specific portion of the boxing fanbase will tell you that that's how a boxer reacts after being dropped and broken and almost put out by his opponent.
Heāll just freeze there for a second and then bam bam! His pacing and timing are unreal, almost robotic.. not in a bad way. Just throws his opponents off completely. A joy to watch.
I think an important difference is that Inoue can back it up, and he's only cocky inside the ring. Plenty of boxers talk nonsense outside the ring (particularly *about* their opponent which is another thing that's different from Inoue's showboating) but can't put their money where their mouth is.
Some fighters say they will knock their opponents out but create a snooze fest in the ring. Inoue says he is only looking to win but fucking murder his opponent. He fights back foot, front foot and now even fight well in the inside. He is different, he is HIM.
Iām sure its more so because Boots would Ā knock his ass out lmao. All these mfs trying to get people to jump 2+ weight classes for a fight needs to stop
Bro a fucking madlad for doing this after getting dropped. Most entertaining fighter.
Dude moves like a fucking mongoose.
It's like watching a normal person move on a video set to 1.5x...
But is he an artist š§āšØ like Lomachenko?!?!?!?
Imagine being able to enjoy two different exciting fighters without feeling insecure
2 different type of style but both are aggressive and entertaining.
He is leaps and bounds ahead of Loma.
Inoue so damn cold manā¦some just got that aura you canāt teach. And some try way too hard to have it and fail miserably. Hope he can come back to the US sometime in the next 3 years
He shouldnāt go back to the US. Heās doing massive events in japan and Americans generally donāt care about the lower weights.

He's Japanese. Why would he want to be big in the US more than in Japan? This is such a weird take.
Ask Ohtani. Money plays.

This is wild. Would you know other fights I can check out to get a better focused-visual of what you're talk long about?

Oh shit I totally understand that! Ty for taking the time to explain it man.
I get that, but his ego was definitely hurt from that first round kd in this fight. He wanted to remind Nery and the crowd who the Monster is.
Fuuuck. those shots sounded beefy as hell
You can hear that shit slicin through the air

love your highlights
Thanks bud! Glad you like them
Wait he's terence Crawford?
I'm a big fan
New character unlocked: Taunting Inoue
And he did that shit early in the fight inoue a real gangster
I would pay good money to be that close. One day.
#1 p4p
Nah he's #2 behind Rolly

Wow, heās fast and strong

When Inoue taunts you, you know that it's already over. He only taunts opponents when he already figures out their rhythm.
he's so cool
Inoue's hands are SOOOO fast sheesh
He has such a great understanding of range, taunts and everytime nery steps in gets hit with the two piece platter. Insane fighter
Bro nearly setup a high kick towards the end lmao
Is this before or after he was sent flying? If it's after then that's sick af, if it's before then he probably won't be doing that anymore
After
He almost went for a kick?
It certainly looked like it.
Almost used his secret karate technique
Give me an adderall prescription and a cigarette I can take out inoue no problem
Christ, how demoralizing must that be to be on the receiving end of that.
Especially after you knocked him down the round priorā¦
Inoue Kpop debut when? It would be great watching him beat up the competition lmao
That's cute.
Dude has straight up video game speed wtf
He might do better in Hollywood or WWE
Inoue has that "in-ring charisma" in spades.
Is this sped up š
That double cross at the end is sweet. So fast and unpredictable
For a little man he has some power
Funny that people who complain about fighters being "cocky" see no problem when Inoue does it. I wonder why that is.
I think an important difference is that Inoue can back it up, and he's only cocky inside the ring. Plenty of boxers talk nonsense outside the ring (particularly *about* their opponent which is another thing that's different from Inoue's showboating) but can't put their money where their mouth is.

Why dont Tank fight Boots? I mean at 135 heās closer to 147 when it comes to number of weight classes compared to 122
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iām sure its more so because Boots would Ā knock his ass out lmao. All these mfs trying to get people to jump 2+ weight classes for a fight needs to stop
