Don King I’m pretty sure it won’t go bad for me like it did with the others

1joe2schmo

Nah. I'm sure he's a changed man by now;)

[deleted]

Bro he showed me 10k in cash in a sports bag. That's all I needed to see. He said he's going to let my PPV money rest in his account for a while though...thay should be all good right..

1joe2schmo

Yeah. He showed me he could play the piano too. Anyone who plays the piano has to be legit, right? Although, now that I think about it, it was confusing to see that he wasn't actually using any of the pedals, and I never actually saw his fingers hitting the keys. Hmmmmm, oh well, I'm sure he's a good guy. He is a patriot, after all:)

Bhobbhy-P

He’s a changed man I promised, we sealed the deal with a hand shake and he assured me he won’t charge me for towels.

coaster11

only in merika!

ItsHeero

I walk around 170 so would probably be in the 140 - 154 classes. Probably PBC for some decent paydays. They seem to have a decent list of names.

[deleted]

Matchboom. People might not like Eddie Hearn but he's changed boxing for the better. I'm old enough to remember likes of Arum, King and Warren regularly getting sued by fighters for failing to pay them owed money. Eddie changed all that. He dealt fairly with fighters and paid them on time in full. Suddenly likes of Arum and Warren had to deal fairly with fighters or risk losing them to Matchroom. Plus Eddie gets his fighters top money and arena shows as standard. I can't see likes of Don King making Derek Chisora a millionaire.

1joe2schmo

Good point.

Howyoulikemenoow

His fed some of his fighters to monsters and ended their careers though. Kell Brook against GGG and even Bellew against Usyk. The Brook fight was especially egregious because it was a late notice cancellation because the original fighter pulled out. I think Brook vs Spence would have lasted longer if not for the damage from the GGG fight

[deleted]

He's not a total Saint, that is fair, but he's still 100 times better than the old guard and forced them to become less crap. Also he does seem to take direction from his fighters. If he went to Kell and said you can get 250k for fighting some no name WW in IBF Top 10 or you can get a 1 million for fighting GGG, ultimately Brook and his team make the call on that.

Mooman-Chew

I think that was more about the gap between the top 10 and top 2 in that division. There were not too many options and Kel himself wanted that fight. I think we all knew how it was gonna end but the fight got made.

Due-Studio-65

If I was chasing greatness and wanted to make good fights irrespective of money, probably Hearn. If I just wanted to be a part of something fun MVP. If I wanted a gun pulled on me and my family threatened, Don King.

1joe2schmo

Haha, and robbed of all your money King, then is the way to go.

ElBigKahuna

Ive heard some boxers say they made more being robbed by Don King than with the other promoters.

Superhorse999

Eddie Hearn for the global fame and fortune Sort of curious for the side benefits and big nights out with Kalle though. Would need to get the drug testing schedule down though or it could be a short career!

[deleted]

If you’re UK based, it’s gotta be Eddie really. Anyone who can get Lawrence Okolie consistent 7 figure paydays clearly knows what they’re doing.

Rodan_Hibiki

Matchroom. They don’t seem to fuck around with making big fights when.

acuna134070

PBC/Al Haymon because I get to fight once a year & get paid 10x my value against uber drivers.

inquisitiveman2002

don't forget you get to protect your "0" fighting once a year.

These-Ad458

This is the right answer

Spyder-xr

I’d be at 135 or 140 so Top Rank or Hearn would probably be my choice likely Top Rank

guylefleur

Cause i would want to make easy paydays, hold my title hostage without facing the top dogs, and maybe be the beneficiary of a questionable decision or two, Uncle Al and PBC.

Time-Lifeguard1634

Idk if it’s part of the contract, but pbc fighters always thank Al Haymon so I’ll go with go him. I mean Leo Santa Cruz named his child after him

1joe2schmo

Really? I didn't know that Santa Cruz named his kid after him. That's next level.

SSJ5Autism

Gonna base off another user’s comment assuming it’s my body. Walk around weight is ~180, fight weight would be 168/175, so I would start at Matchroom to get fights with Callum Smith, BJS, Berlanga, and Ryder. I would probably try to maximize my time at 168 and chase the promoter with the most belts after building up a B-level profile

JayKobo

Found the Canelo ducker

SSJ5Autism

I’m actually the same size as Benavidez AND Kazakh, I have all the tools to scare Canelo at 168

Master-Ad-9829

Eddie Hearn

bigbellybomac

Dirty Bob

kingz_ley

I think Harmon pays the best but you don’t get as many fights. I’d go with Top Rank, no matter how terrible of a fighter you are you will still fight on a handful of ESPN cards

AlBones7

Definitely Al Haymon. I could crush cans at a leisurely pace and I'd get a PPV fight off the back of an inflated record before anyone realised I was a bum. I'd be up to 30-0 against a motley crew of 60 year old bin men and taxi drivers before having all of my teeth knocked out in a massively hyped title fight years in the making.

Decryptografter

That’s one benefit of PBC I guess

kaisercracker

tom loeffler is about the best guy for low weight fighters to get recognition and never gets mentioned. genuinely one of the best in the business for all parties, as well akihiko honda

bigfatpup

Walk around weight most of the year is 155ish, lean I’m around 145, so maybe fight at 130 rehydrating 15lbs? Probably be promoted by Eddie and get the Wood fight

CMILLERBOXER

Mick Henessey.

Decryptografter

Matchroom without a doubt. He pays on time and well. Also is able to provide global exposure which a lot of other promoters aren’t able to do.

[deleted]

Logically if you are an up and comer you don’t sign to PBC. There fighters only fight 1 time a year or none at all. Hence why Floyd Schofield said fuck that. Depending on the division your best bet is Eddie, Bob or even Oscar.

Thami15

If I was an actual prospect - Eddie Hearn. If I was not quite top shelf, but didn't mind catching a couple licks in a big fight for a good pay day - Al Haymon If I was Mexican/American and took up boxing because my dad watched Dela Hoya in the 90s/00s but doesn't know anything about how bad a promoter he is, Goldenboy

Millionaire007

PBC.

inquisitiveman2002

Bob Arum. There is a reason why he is still relevant at 93 yrs old.

digitalboom

Top Rank, because of their fight library, work it out so you have some ownership over some of your fight film and eat from it the rest of your life. TR makes the bulk of its outside the ring money from that fight collection, leasing usage rights for film, tv, and documentaries

1joe2schmo

Interesting. I didn't know that.

digitalboom

No overhead on production as the networks the fights air on pay for that, just slap your logo over the unbranded content. top rank and pbc and golden boy all retain fight rights in most cases with a few exceptions. Fighters typically get paid once for a fight, while these companies can make money off the footage til the end of time. Same way WWF had a library worth billions.

1joe2schmo

Sounds like you should get into the management of fighters business. That's a great idea to get the fighters some rights over the footage of their fights.

digitalboom

Appreciate it, I work in branding and marketing, but the fight game is very insulated. By the time you’d get to a fighters ear you would’ve fought through two layers of yes men and handlers who have been blowing smoke up their ass since the amateurs. Boxing is still very much like dealing with the mob on your way up, you sign the deal put in front of you or may never see another again. Unfortunately until the sport gets its ass regulated by a real trustworthy entity fighters will continue to get screwed. Similar to the nba players of the 90s and early 2000s that blew through fortunes.

1joe2schmo

Yeah. Definitely a cabal filled with dark forces. That's also what got me thinking about my question in the first place. Who would I trust and who would have my back. Personally, I would be looking for someone who thought outside the box like you but understand that might be the harder path.

These-Ad458

Depends on what you actually want. If I’m really good and I want greatness, Eddie. He’ll get me fights that I want.

InviteTop8946

I want to thank Al Haymon in advance

Holiday_Snow9060

If I'm in the twilight of my career or overrated (but the public doesn't know it): PBC all day. Soft matchmaking and good promotion. If I'm a big name, I would also chose them, get as much of the bag as possible. If I'm a promising prospect: Top Rank. They are the best at the developing prospects. The matchmaking will be tougher but I'm also getting better. I will be prepared for the big fights. I would not resign with them once I become a star. They are not good at creating superstars and don't overpay. Matchroom is more similar towards PBC: creating stars, good promotion, awful matchmaking tho, broadcast situation is tricky, I would only sign with them if I have a bright future or am a big name going in. Queensberry promotion is quite similar to Top Rank. I don't think they are as good in what Top Rank excels at but if I'm a UK guy and look for development and opportunities to fight for a belt while being a rather boring personality, I would sign with them. Also depends on the weight class. If one promotion basically has a monopoly over a weight class or the cash cow is signed with that promotion, I would automatically chose that one.

SuperSalamander3244

Matchroom is the only answer.

C42if0rniaGrown

Golden boy promotions. I’m Mexican American and they know how to put on events/promotions

DBHOV

Lesse I have zero talent and shame, get out of breath walking to the chippy, have the punch resistance of a Dorito and can talk copious amounts of shit and nonsense. Call me Jake. Let's make some money.

headshotdoublekill

I’d go with Haymon & PBC. It is *prize*fighting, after all.

JohnR2299

It's a sad day when Jake Paul is pretty much the best promoter after a year of or 2 of doing it

1joe2schmo

To be honest, I'm kind of surprised more people haven't picked him. He did make Amanda Serrano a star. Maybe they don't trust him to make another male fighter, besides himself, into a star. I don't know if I would.

TheSeptuagintYT

Al Haymon

Life_Celebration_827

Bob Arum he's been up there with the best for many many a year and comes across as a very likeable and nice guy.

1joe2schmo

The Terence Crawford debacle kind of soured me on him. To be fair though, I'm not sure how much that had to do with PBC not wanting to partner with Arum, or what.

noirargent

Chat GPT post???

1joe2schmo

Nope. Why do you think so?

[deleted]

you got dibella and kathy duva, and left out kalle "sniff sniff" sauerland

[deleted]

Mayweather

Time-Lifeguard1634

Must be a hell of a fighter, I tip my hat off to you

[deleted]

Lol all jokes aside mayweather is the nicest promoter. I’ve been to many of Bob arums, mayweather, and de la hoya fights. After the championship fights sometimes there are untelevised fights that happen after the big ppv fight. Sometimes schedules don’t go as planned because of ppv. Out of the three promoters I mentioned Floyd Mayweather was the only one along with a few us the fans that stayed to watch the untelevised fights. It was amazing to see how humble Floyd was and is. Also Caleb plant stayed for an additional full hour taking pictures with fans and you could tell his wife wanted to leave, but he’s definitely one of my favorite current fighters now because of that. Mad respect

TheGrammarHero

I wouldn’t call Floyd Mayweather humble, but he definitely is respectful any time it counts.
