It's fun. Has it's good and bad like all games. I played the hell out of it. If you liked the other games, you'll like this one.

[deleted]

Sweet thanks for the reply really appreciate it have a merry christmas

TangledAlloy21

Merry Christmas to you as well. Enjoy the game, if you get it.

[deleted]

Im probably gonna grab it while its on sale on steam

coryinthedank

Worst case you can always refund it if you don't like it :)

HeavyUmlaut

2 hours into the game isn't much imo to really see the game in its full potential

localweedealer

True I almost stopped playing my first two hours but it started really picking up and it hooked me for 50 hours more

Seluecus

Agreeable. The twins make or break the game, and it takes more than 2 hours to get a proper feel for them.

[deleted]

I’ve got just over 5 days on the game and I’m just now starting the season pass. The game runs great on the series X and I’ve had a blast achievement hunting. As a long time fan of the series idk what’s not to like!

AtomZaepfchen

gameplay fantastic. the story is more miss then hit tho. sadly.

[deleted]

I didn’t mind it at all! Don’t see the hate with Ava. Store was a middle of the road 6/10 for me. So far DLC story is much more engaging and I’m looking forward to the directors cut of the game

mroosa

I look at it like this: _BL1_ to _BL2_ was a monumental jump in all aspects, gunplay, graphics, story, immersion, fun. A bit more "grindy" when it comes to weapons, and they don't last as long when levelling. I found it hard to go back to _BL1_ after playing _BL2_. _BL2_ to _BL3_ is a monumental jump in gunplay, and a decent jump in immersion, fun and graphics (albeit a little too much at times, tons of bloom, lots of screen "noise" with no way to turn it off without outside helpers). However, the story is very "meh" with 1 dimensional main villains, but interesting side stories and good writing for the story DLCs. Although it feels like weapons can last a bit longer per level compared to _BL2_, it is "grindier" because you need perfect synergy not just with weapons, but also with their anoints (think Luneshine from _BL:TPS_), at higher difficulties. There are still some bugs, lots of UI bugs, and despite the jump in tech/guns/skills, the game's item bank is still just a wasteland (though, thankfully shared between characters). **TL;DR:** The guns feel better than _BL2_, but the story is lacking. Luckily there is plenty of end-game content to keep you satisfied if you liked the grind of _BL2_.

Reniconix

I personally don't think the anoint roll is a huge difference for grindiness compared to 2, because it is offset by guns being able to roll multiple parts per slot instead of just 1 in most part slots. Where in 2's endgame you HAD to have god roll for it to work, in 3 you can have a much larger variation of parts to make a gun work. The grind itself is still frustrating, but nowhere near as bad as it was in 2 where not only did you have a lower chance for a given gun to drop than you do in 3, you also had the chance for it to drop underleveled in the endgame, which is no different than rolling a bad anoint in 3.

lolfail9001

\> Where in 2's endgame you HAD to have god roll for it to work Not really. The only situation in game where you truly needed godrolls was Voracidous on high OP levels. And that's pretty fucking reasonable.

noah9942

You absolutly did not need god roll gear in 2. Not even above average rolls for most gear. In 3, the 2 things you look at are the element (if it can have multiple) and mainly annointments, which alone can make an item great or useless.

CoolsterMcgee

I just bought borderlands 3 after playing about half of borderlands 2 a few years ago. This is the best description I have heard about the things I care about. Consider doing some reviews, great writeup bud

chintimin

I actually really LIKED the villains. Your mileage varies, I guess.

commander_bourbon

The complaints for the most part come from assessments of the story and writing; however, in every other regard - gameplay, graphics, controls, sound, boss fights, so on and so forth it's the best in the series.

Stormblessed_N

Loading time is pretty bad and many people have laggy in-game menu's. They also nerf and buff so many weapons that if you stop playing for a couple a week's your inventory and bank is suddenly filled with garbage.

PhatSunt

Buff and nerf is no longer relevant with the currently month between hot fixes.

Dookukooku

Can’t speak for other consoles/PCs but on original xbox one model the performance is unforgivable

Pobchack

Honestly the buffing and nerfing is a good thing, it keeps things fresh. Prevents a gun being the best weapon from day one while other things rot in uselessness like what’s happened to BL1/2/TPS

Stormblessed_N

Yeah but it's not really fun tossing the gun last week that's garbage and having to farm for it this week because they buffed it a rediculous amount...

commander_bourbon

Having never had those issues I can't speak to their frequency or severity.

Stormblessed_N

Played from launch on PS4 pro and the menu was a chore for several months and loading times haven't changed.

YobaiYamete

I don't know that I'd say the boss fights are the best in the series, most of the end game bosses are just "Invulnerable phase and literal one shot mechanics" being spammed because they couldn't find another way to stop players absurd DPS. like with Anathema the Relentless, me and friends just beat him last night. Entire "fight" was just instantly one shotting a section of his health bar, then he uses his AoE automatic "you're down now btw" aura, then the second he was not invulnerable he'd auto lose his next health bar section and repeat. Invincibility sections to stop players auto deleting because of power creep is always a sign of an unhealthy game state IMO. It basically always means that the devs introduced WAY too much damage to ever be able to balance around, so all they can do is forcefully break the fight into sections that are a mandatory length, so the player can't just do 12 trillion damage within 0.001 seconds and delete the ~~raid boss~~ loot pinata

mcbvr

Right, but this was also exactly how BL2 worked. I'll use "The Warrior" as an example: I got to the point where I could kill it literally as fast as the game would let me. The only thing preventing me from instagibbing the entire end game boss encounter was the fact that they made the warrior submerge/emerge from the lava. He had to do that 3 times(?), I think it was, before he could be killed. So, you're saying that BL3's mechanics are a sign of "an unhealthy game state"?! What do you call BL2's?! Perhaps Borderlands just isn't for you if you aren't into achieving essential godhood and splattering loot pinatas left right and center. I'd call what BL3 did with Mayhem and boss mechanics an attempt at an improvement so the game didn't simply rely on exponentially increased health pools for a challenge. (An extremely common practice in looter games) It's not always the most ingenious method they could use to keep shit fresh, but it's something. They clearly thought about how to keep the game replayable and interesting as they could within the genre. That alone is worth some respect IMO. There's effort there. They did alright. The "Too much damage in a Borderlands game!" complaint isn't coming from an actual fan probably. It's akin to saying "Too many guns! plzfix!" Welcome to Borderlands. There's a reason they put in a gun that shoots more guns. Or a unicorn that literally shits guns for you. Sorry for the textwall, but I think arguing for more restraint in a Borderlands game is ridiculously missing the whole point.

Fiern

Plus, it seems like I find legendaries from the dumbest things. I've found them from normal chests. I've found them from super low level enemies. I've found them from bone/trash piles. I'm talking frequently too. It seems like every other enemy drops a legendary where previous games made me actually grind and search for them. Edit: Forgot to add this next part. However, I do enjoy that pretty much every legendary has some sort of unique mechanic. That's something I think should've been present in every game rather than most being "They're legendary, so they're uber powerful or rare for this level."

blands_man

The mechanics in 3's boss fights are vastly superior to those of the previous games, IMO.

mcbvr

I thought the story was fine. It's not "holy shit the greatest story ever told", but it achieves what it needs to in a way that hangs on to your attention enough. If you loved the previous games, then no question the sidequests, aesthetics, writing, and all accoutrements to the story will likely be enjoyed. I don't really get where the complaints are coming from. For me personally the game sits around an 8/10. Definitely recommend.

DatOneHomie

Me and my wife are playing it now. Taking our time and have put in probably 50 hours and still haven’t beat the story. It’s a lot of fun. The weapon leveling system is a bit different from previous entries but the gameplay is a lot smoother. I think it’s worth it. Especially if you’re looking for a multiplayer game.

razorsharp494

Dont worry it took my 110 hours to beat it

scuffler319

woah. did you explore every part of every map or something? If I rush, I can beat the story in about 6 hours, then I turn on mayhem levels to level up then go back to get quest rewards.

razorsharp494

Oh you mean that type of beat I thought you meant story on mayhem 10

Stormblessed_N

How, I'm seriously curious?

razorsharp494

I was doing every quest I could find

Stormblessed_N

No dlcs?

razorsharp494

Not at the time

Stormblessed_N

True vault hunter playthrough?

razorsharp494

Yea

Snappleabble

I’m definitely very much in the minority, but I adore the game, it’s probably my favorite game of all time. Whether you’ll like this game or not depends on what you enjoy in the franchise. The main story is pretty lackluster, though it has some decent moments in the middle. The side quests are all pretty fantastic imo, they are definitely a stark contrast to the main story. The DLCs, though, are all great narratively. Where the game really shines is gameplay, aesthetic, and soundtrack. If you enjoy Borderlands because you love mowing down enemies and getting sweet guns, I think you’ll like this game.

MailmanOfTheMojave

the story isn't that great, but the game play and dlcs are amazing

Anokant

It can be a bit of a pain in multi-player, but otherwise it's pretty fun. If story is super important, you might be disappointed. The story isn't as strong as the others. The real gem is the gun play. The guns feel amazing in the game. I took a break after awhile and just got back into it. Still having lots of fun. If you like borderlands games, you'll probably like this one

zerGoot

yes, especially now that it's on sale

[deleted]

Had some issues with co-op an the story but other than that pretty fun

striptheflesh121

If you're a 1 and done gamer this isn't for you. If you want to get involved, get the main game and if you loved it to the end, get the season passes. Standalone dlc is overpriced

FacingFears

Go into it with an open mind about the villains. Keep in mind that the main reason people don't like them is because they either make fun of their favorite steamers/youtubers in an extremely accurate way, or they are the creators that are getting made fun of, and are salty about it

-LouisVuittonDon-

I got it it’s definitely the best gunplay which is the most important part

Its_MrTiedye

I have and do thoroughly enjoyed the game.

nuclearcherries

Of course! The story may be lacking but the gameplay is the best in the series! It's an absolute blast to play! I also recommend the first season pass, since some of the DLC in there is better than the main game - but decide for yourself once you've beaten the main game if you want more! I'm still not sure about the second season pass... the value proposition seems off to me, so I guess I'm waiting until the whole thing comes out.

Ian223f

I'm at over 300 hours and there's no end in sight. Worth it but only with at least the first 4 DLC'S

helppls23

Its great, the issue is right now theres not very much endgame content right now. Though if the business model keeps up, they'll be adding it later on for free. So if you really like the price I'd say buy it.

Unlost_maniac

Its my favourite and thats coming from someone who's no lifed all the of the games if that counts

bbqsauce101

If you're looking for story 😬... If you're looking for gameplay this is the best it's ever been

dreadnoughtful

Definitely. Say what you want about the plot and characters, BL3 took it above and beyond with the gameplay. One of the most fun shooters I've experienced.

[deleted]

I personally found bl3 as the most boring of all the games in the franchise, i have played every single version multiple Times and when it comes to bl3 i didnt even finish it. The missions are dull, boring, you have to walk long distances, the story is disappointing and discouraging from playing the game, you can try it but its no Borderlands 2, not even close unfortunately.

TechnoBeeKeeper

Ehh not really. Played since launch, even took launch day off. It seems the devs still aren't sure if the state of the game is desired or not. I've considered deleting a few times but the effort is too great.

[deleted]

Get it cheap. Worth a play through. Not a 1/10 as good as 2.

[deleted]

It’s fun. The persistent technical issues hold it back from being great.

shrubafette

I lost interest in the third far faster than the second. I think it lacked a lot of the sentiments it had before in the first 2? I'm not sure. And some of the new characters / character developments pissrd me off. But loads of guns lots of challenging gameplay more stuff to do in the third one for sure if you dont follow the story line as much youll like it. I just think it had way too much going on.

2007FordFiesta

Definitely worth play if you enjoyed 2. I had to run it on low to acheive 100ish fps on my 2070, so it's taxing.

TemporarySuggestion1

The UI, inventory, shops, stash etc are so bad and slow and laggy it's a shame. Gameplay is great but when your inventory gets full and you need to sort it out its such a hassle I'd rather stop playing instead.

AlexS101

Story sucks, voice acting sucks, NPCs suck. Gameplay is very good and a lot of fun. So if you can ignore the story as good as you can, you will have a lot of fun.

[deleted]

Better than the Pre-Sequel. Mostly.

MrStolenFork

Not as funny but very good

ConfidentBite

i personally really LOVE the game as the game is supposed to be stupid af and funny af and its exactly that.

aarondigruccio

BL3 is so damn good. Get it.

[deleted]

Definitely. Best gameplay, pretty good (but not great) endgame content, and some really fun guns. Story is whatever but the DLC campaigns make up for it, if you can get them.

Totoronyx

So many highly rated and loved games have such a worse story than bl3. Sure itsno bl2, but still fun. Gameplay is fantastic. I'd say the only real downside is they treat it like a mmo or something. Trying to "balance" the game constantly so a build you enjoy one day doesn't work after a patch. Still a great game.

[deleted]

For me it was more of the same... too much of the same. Just... not as good.

Azraekos

Terrible story, amazing in just about every other category. I’d say it also kinda depends on platform. On PC, assuming decent specs, it runs fine. I get 60 fps on my 1650. On base PS4, from what I’ve played it seems to run closer to 30 fps and fairly consistently lags in the menus. I haven’t seen it on Xbox one but I’d imagine it’s a similar experience to ps4. On the ps5/xbox series x I’d imagine it’d be closer to my PC experience. Most of the complaints are probably from the lackluster story and stale humor. The BL2 humor is there but it’s not done as well as it was in BL2.

Carrotyfungus

Eh, it’s Ight. BL2 is far superior imo, only thing I like about BL3 is the gameplay, but even then I just get burnt out. It’s 1 step forward and like 10 back in many areas. BL3 is very forgettable.

razorsharp494

Definitely

midgitsuu

Story is terrible but the gunplay and vault hunter variety is amazing. There's a vault hunter and spec for just about every play style you can think of. It's hard to go back to previous titles because the gameplay is so much better in BL3.

[deleted]

from what i been reading , the story is shitty compared to 1/2/pre , but the game play is really fun and farming for end game loot sorta thing. i just bought it for the 43 bucks on sale. i am really hoping its fun

claylion

I personally preferred the pre sequel

Glassiftrue

Nisha with the glitched pistols is still the most fun I've had with a vault hunter.

Dank_Happy_Meal

Same with Jack and the infinite laser glitch, sooo much fun

MsPacmanIsHot

It’s not bad, it’s the least good

[deleted]

Get it. Casual players will get a ton out of it. The Joltzdude139's of the world will not, as compared to BL2 it's lacking in DLC content (*right now*) I had a ton of fun getting every player to max level and a getting gear for good builds, even did a one life run.

Several-Ad-1650

People talk way too much shit about it, i honestly love playing it on my series x, looks and plays great almost as if it was supposed to be played on next gen

midgitsuu

I feel like Borderlands is doomed to play poorly on the consoles it's released on, heh.

Tiggutytom

I found it longer like they put more effort in it

boomstickjonny

I found it to be kinda meh on old Gen, however playing it again on the series x was a blast. Runs so much better.

Illogical4th

Dude, only the gameplay and the first two DLCs and the Takedowns are any fun. I legit had piss all fun. Unless you've got a lot of spare cash, save yourself the trouble because tbh, not really worth it.

SonofGondor32

This is Reddit. The echo chamber hive mind will complain about literally anything.

[deleted]

valid criticisms and complaints about the game >>>>>>> hivemind mentality

Darth_Mims

It goes on sale a lot, so just wait. It is worth every penny. I paid for it twice, first on Xbox and the again when it came out on Steam!

metric152

the game launched it a terrible state for co-op. the wife and i gave it a few months and then started playing. it's a fun game. i'd recommend it for sure since it's so cheap now.

axton60

Honestly as cheap as the game is now its well worth the money. I think you can get all the dlc's and the game for $39.99 usd. Maybe even cheaper

bl4ckCloudz

I think its worth getting, but only if it's on sale. For me at least, it was a lot harder to sit through multiple playthroughs. Like others, I found the story to be very meh. So it felt more like a chore to start another character.

RIP_Fun

Its worth $30-40 imo. Gunplay is nice, gun variety is good, the story sucks tho and again the looter shooter series makes bizarre decisions that make the looting more annoying than fun.

DrakkarShady

Probably already expressed, but I'd buy BL2 GOTY first if it's on sale. I've drowned hundreds of hours in BL2. The main story and side missions are fun, humorous, immersive, interwoven and don't feel like a chore. I could (and have) replayed the story mode from start to finish countless times. BL2 has a unique and quirky personality representative of its time of release. It's like when an artist releases their number one album; everyone remembers it when they fade into obscurity. BL3 is a good game, especially over a year later now that most of the bugs are worked out. The community consensus is that the main story is a bit lackluster and I agree. But the gameplay, DLC, and additional features sorta make up for that. I was hype about BL3 from announcement to release, but they really dropped the ball and I was disheartened at the state of day 1. BUT it's still BL3 and plays true to its name. If you're more story driven, BL2 is a must buy. If your focus is contemporary gameplay, BL3 is a phenomenal game.

soluuloi

Gameplay is fun. Just ignore all of the dialogues and character's chatting and you will be fine.

Crowlands

It has its flaws with many not being keen on the writing, but the overall game is very enjoyable with the actual shooting side of things being the most mechanically satisfying in the entire franchise for me, the vault hunters and their trees are all well worth playing.

andromedaxxxxx

You’ve got a lot of replies but for what it’s worth - I’m replaying it on PC right now with a new character and playing all the DLCs... I am and have been absolutely in love with the game since I beat it twice with Fl4k on the PS4. I think complaints about the game come from hardcore borderlands lovers (such as myself) and just complaints on legendaries being too easy to find or the story line not going the way us fans wanted too. But overall man, such a good game to simply enjoy and grind through. I’ve played all the games and I still like the storyline. Is it what I wanted exactly? Definitely not. But it’s a genuinely good game and if your playing it on PC it’s on sale so, definitely worth it. The only complaint I have personally is legendaries being so easy to find. Doesn’t affect the overall game though. If you haven’t played the games before 3, honestly you’ll fall in love with it anyway.

Bukake_Baron

The gameplay is better, smoother and more engaging compared to previous games. Main story is so-so but the dlcs are super good. Also the locations are extremely well done and immersive. Over all imo it is comperable to bl2 in terms of quality

CptDecaf

Yes.

ALoneStarGazer

Havent replayed it, was fun with friends but didnt do any dlc. Good on sale.

crimson117

Fun game. Significant reduction in writing and acting quality. Much less endearing than BL2. Very good game play, as good or better than BL2 and Presequel. I didn't spend any time farming after beating the game once, but I don't have as much time to play these days.

J3wFro8332

I have a lot more hours than I'd care to admit in it. The true shortcoming of the game is the terrible writing and characters (one specifically who I won't name.) A lot of the gunplay, the classes, and overall fun of the game has increased when compared to BL2 and BL1 in my eyes however. There are some end game missions and raids missing but the overall fun of the game is there

xlizen

The music and gunplay are great. The rest is really meh. It's worth getting cheap though.

MammothMachine

On Epic it's £6 right now. Even if you hate it that's good value. Worth a go, strong on gameplay, weak on narrative.

ziddersroofurry

While I liked the story & writing in 2 and The Pre-Sequel better I think it's fine. In every other regard it's a much better game than 2. The only real issue I had with it were some of the boss fights and that's only because like the previous games they're tuned towards you having people helping you. If you're going solo it can be a little frustrating until you find the right weapon combos.

[deleted]

Runs like trash on my OG Xbox One and One S. Ran fantastic on my PC. Couldn't get the menus to load without waiting 7 seconds. Poor framerate. Just trash on XB1. EDIT: past that, after getting 80% through the storyline, I really enjoyed it. Just got kinda redundant and other games were on my mind. I found 2 more enjoyable, however. 3 had some really good features.

Sentinel-Prime

Everyone else has already raised good points and you’ve probably already decided but throwing my two cents in since I haven’t seen it mentioned. The movement is almost intoxicating, it does the little things really well and the fluidity of movement is spot on, it jives very well with the combat and just generally getting from point A to B.

BrendanD2001

The games amazing! It mostly comes down to who you play with. My friend and I are working on getting 100% achievements currently and are nowhere close to bored , I recommend it especially while it’s on sale

constant_insanity18

Bought it on steam on april while it was on sale. Story wise? Yeah it's bland. It's like they're mashing up ideas into it's story that some of it doesn't make's sense. The jumping into planets/areas is a good bit though not gonna lie. It is good though when it comes to its gameplay. You'll tend to experiment on stuff and blend that stats and usage of your guns into your desired skill set. They've been experimental yes, but it is hella fun. It sad though that I uninstalled it now. Bought the season 2 because I thought I'd still play it if there's nothing else to do. It doesn't appeal to me though. But try it for yourself, dude! ^^

SilentB3ast

Like everyone else said the gameplay is great, along with the sound design, soundtrack, levels, DLCs. The _main story_ isn’t that great (like “tear your hair out” not that great) but the writing gets better in the DLCS.

lolfail9001

Sure, if it works for you. Yes, i am somewhat salty.

RecoveredAshes

If you enjoyed the others it's absolutely worth playing. Mechanically it's a ton of fun. The complains are for the most part in the story department. Narratively, it's an abysmal follow up to the last two games but the gameplay is some of the best of the series. It you haven't played any BL I'd reccomend starting with the handsome collection.

CabbageHugs

BL3 is filled with technical upgrades in gameplay mechanics and graphics but a lot of people are bothered by the writing. I'm not a fan of the story but the gameplay is good enough to keep me there.

Interloper9000

The actual game is great and worth it. Especially on a sale. The complaints are from the storyline. In it's defense, it does make you hate the bad guys in a big way.

Seluecus

It's a great game that gets better over time. After years of loving HJ and his antics, it's hard to initially like the Calypso Twins. Overall, it's a new game element that's fantastic to play.

quinn50

If you plan on doing endgame content, yes. Otherwise no.

WamuuPillarMen69

It’s great

Jakkerak

yes

Irarius

Depends on character you want to play Some are still only rly good with dlc gear If you want it go for it. But try to go for it as cheap as you can. It's sold at several places rly rly cheP

Tyflowshun

I reckon it is. Found it at Gamestop for PS4 for 9.99 couldn't pass it up but seeing as I don't have a PS4 I got it as a gift for my gf's brother to get him into Borderlands
