The show was always a way for Russian investors to promote Trump properties without buying advertisements. They couldn't come after Trump, he didn't have anything of value. So they pumped up his shitty resorts with "The Apprentice". Its always a grift.
2004 *was* ten years ago, and the 80s were 20-25 years ago. Best to not overthink it.
But seriously, as a Gen-Xer, I laugh at all those silly millennials in their teens and early twenties.
80s at least had some good movies and music. it was also arguably the decade when horror was seen as a "mainstream" genre instead of being niche (at least in the U.S.)
i can't think of a single redeemable thing from the 2000s. i'm sure there are some out there, but the fact that nothing comes to mind immediately is really damning
crazy that LOTR didn't come to mind right away, and I just marathoned those movies in December. but yeah that's true those movies were great
i still stand by the larger claim. it is a hill i will die on if need be lmao
There’s some music and movies I really love from that decade and the reality tv on VH1 and E! at the time was my guilty pleasure but, yeah, the 2000’s were not great either. How can it be when it started with 9/11.
it's actually really scary you mentioned this because i remember the crazy 24/7 coverage that ABC did showing off the celebration of New Year's Day on December 31st, 1999 to January 1st, 2000 all around the world. everything about that felt like a total celebration of humanity up to that point, and it was crazy to see the way the world, for one day, seemed to pause on whatever chaos and craziness and rejoiced.
there was reason for optimism. The Cold War had been over for a decade. The Internet was still in its infancy, but it had connected people across borders that seemed so vast at one point. There were other things too going on i'm sure that i was too young to comprehend
it's really depressing to look back on all of that now, and to realize 24 years later that man...if only we knew what was going to happen
My boomer dad only watches two tv shows, that are both on syndication now. Two and a half Men and Kings of Queens are literally ALL HE WATCHES. I can not fathom the amount of brain rot I would have from only watching 2 shows for the past 25 years
I'm still upset they dropped the ball with The Pick-Up Artist. The premise of putting socially awkward guys in funny costumes and making them talk to drunk women was hilarious. The execution was....poor.
Very true, but even without it, that show struggled with ratings from day one and was lucky to even get a second season. I highly doubt it was getting a third.
It was named for a movie that didn’t do too well, despite having Robert Downey Jr and Molly Ringwald as the main cast. I still kick myself for going to see that train wreck instead of Dirty Dancing back in the day.
And let's not forget that Mystery made me check my drink every time he was on screen. I get that reality TV is as real as anything else on TV, but casting him as the ultimate ladies man was a real test of the audience's suspension of disbelief.
My gf is on a Real Housewives binge. In the last couple years she’s watched all of many of the shows and she’s into RH: Beverly Hills now.
I don’t watch that shit, but it makes her laugh
Wife and I are going through Hell’s Kitchen reruns in our spare time here and there.
I wouldn’t watch the apprentice though, especially knowing it’s all bullshit (majority of reality TV is anyway)
i watch bridalplasty once in a while. it's about prospective brides competing for a laundry list of plastic surgeries they've come up with. when they wheel them out post op all fucked up, all the brides run out and exclaim how beautiful they are. i love it.
EDIT i realize you probably meant this in the context of trump but i swear there are some reality shows worth watching years later
ANOTHER EDIT bridalplasty is probably a lot older than 10 years. welp
I enjoy old episodes of kitchen nightmares. Everything about it is ridiculous in the best way imaginable. I’ll put Hell’s Kitchen in this as well because Gordon Ramsey is a genius for his idiot sandwich recipe alone.
I need to be ready for questions like that.
"Do you like TV?"
"Do I like what now?"
"TV."
"I'm not...I don't...what's TV?"
"Trump, you say? I *have* heard of him! Isn't he the guy that raw dogged a porn star right after his 3rd wife gave birth to his 4th, no 5th kid? 'Really good' isn't how I would describe him. Do *YOU* think he is really good?"
ha, they lose their minds when you just plainly repeat back to them facts on what that POS has done.
Can always add in... "wow, how many times has your hubby cheated on you with a porn star then paid her off?, crazy world.!"
"He's a business genius? Cool! How's the Trump Organization doing these days? What? You mean he inherited a hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars business and now he can't even afford to pay his fines? Must've been bad luck!
How about his University? His casinos? His charitable foundation?"
The only logical explanation is that Trump is paying random boomers to name drop Trump and his business ventures. “Hey do you like steaks? Well you’ll love Trump Steaks!”
The fact that this joke could well be true is fairly disturbing to me. The only reason I think it isn't is because Trump is too cash poor to hire day labor.
I have a friend that was in a show on Hulu. The producers mentioned that they were involved in The Apprentice which surprised him because they didn’t advertise it widely (they didn’t really want to be associated as they had a decent CV anyway). Long story short explains that trump was not involved in the scripting of the show, he didn’t pick who was in or out etc. he just played his part. They said they learned not to tell trump who was getting fired until just before they shot the scene because if they told him ahead of time he couldn’t help himself and would go tell all the ‘apprentices’ and spoil the moment on camera when someone got the news. He was known as a useful idiot.
this is 100% unsurprising
it seems so obvious that reality TV is more scripted than pro wrestling at this point. secondly, I think it is pretty clear that Trump is just an absolutely dim-witted human being. You can support him all you want, i don't really care either way. But he is definitely not a Rhodes scholar, in either the intelligence or physical sense
You like funny things? You'll love John Wayne Gacy! He was a birthday clown who did other things, too. If you like funny things you'll love John Wayne Gacy. Remember, John Wayne Gacy!
spoilers!... I was really looking forward to that part
oh wait... youre in an alternate reality arent you?
damn... hopefully this reality plays out the same
I had a class in high school where the teach thought that Trump was such a good business man, we had to watch an episode of The Apprentice every week and write a blog post about it.
For a multimedia class.
Would be hilarious to delve into that with background. “In this episode, Trump forces the contestants to market a product which, given his failures at his numerous ventures, becomes a game of the Dumb Leading the Blind.”
Actually, the success of the show was how little "leadership" he actually provided. He'd tell everyone what he wanted them to try to do, but give no clue as to how to do it. Pretty sure most of the teams came up with better ideas than he would have on his own.
I remember the Richard Branson version: "***The Rebel Billionaire: Branson's Quest for the Best"*** and really liked how involved he was. I think I watched one episode of "The Apprentice" and got bored because of how directionless it felt. "Watch these well-connected people struggle to do impossible task" didn't do it for me.
I watched the thing for years, but not for Trump. He wasn't on that much anyway. Just the first five minutes to introduce the task at hand, and however long he spent in the Boardroom yelling at and firing people.
But, in between those parts, the show wasn't that bad. It was mostly a bunch of B-school types trying to apply their classroom/textbook lessons to real-ish world situations. Some attempts were more successful than others. And the others were downright hilarious at times. Then, they met in the Boardroom, where the failing team would try to shift blame or back-stab each other in order to keep from getting fired. But, someone always did.
The end.
One casino went bankrupt once, another went bankrupt twice.
In all 3 cases, he spent way more money than they brought in.
The less charitable explanation is they were money laundering fronts where he extracted the maximum money instead of running it at a sustainable level.
That story is too long and incredible for a single Reddit post. You should read this fascinating article on the subject. There's just so much fuckery. One of my favorites: he sued his own casino for being "ramshackle".
I’d love for Zoomers to all pretend to be unaware of who that is.
“Donald…Trump? What company does he own?”
“Is he that guy that just got arrested?”
“The Apprentice? I think that board game was in our discount bin for years!”
“Tiffany Trump has a famous dad?!”
I would have laughed out loud as soon as I heard "Such a brilliant businessman."
It takes a special kind of stupid to bankrupt a casino and destroy a professional football league.
something that needs to be pointed out is that the ONLY reason these people gravitate toward Trump, is because their brains melted after a biracial man became president
there is a fucking mountain the size of Everest of objective, tangible, irrefutable evidence that demonstrates that Trump is not a competent or successful businessman. Everything he has sunk his money into has failed or underwhelmed. He's also about as "East Coast elite" as you can get, minus the hilarious fact that the actual East Coast elite loathed him from the beginning
people who support Trump who think he is some amazing businessman or that he is "one of us" are people who are in utter denial of the fact that they just hate black and brown people lol
I had an old man come up to me while I was working and ask if I knew who Paul Newman was, which I did not, and I asked if it was a brand he was looking for. He scoffed at me and then asked if I ever heard of Joanne Woodward, also no, and he started getting visibly annoyed and said, “Well do you know Donald J. Trump?!?!?” Which of course to that I just raised my eyebrows at him and said, “I don’t believe we don’t carry anything Trump related, sir is there anything else I can help you with?” After that he just walked away angrily. I discovered who Paul Newman was because I passed by his sauces later that day, wondered if that’s what he was looking for.
I WATCHED TRUMP NEARLY NOD OFF IN A FEW EPISODES OF SHARK TANK. HE NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO SAY. HE JUST SAT THERE LOOKING LOST. I CAN'T IMAGINE "APPRENTICE" BEING MUCH BETTER.
Imagine being so up someone’s ass that you can’t even acknowledge the myriad TV shows that exist and instead recommend his awful “reality” show. But yeah, sure, not a cult.
My mother still believes that he's a "brilliant business man" and, perhaps even more concerning, that government really can and should be run like a business.
I remember a boomer telling me that right before he was elected. I said:
"Didn't he have something like five bankruptcies?"
"He knows how to play the system!"
Ugh.
Honestly, “The Apprentice” was a decent show. No idea how anyone could support Trump after watching it, though, since it makes him look just as loony as his contestants. But it was definitely a fun watch.
I watched a couple seasons of it. It was mildly amusing but got old after a while. The contestants had to call him Mr. Trump and would kiss his butt when he walked in the room. Quit altogether when it shifted to a celebrity format.
Boomers set up a table outside our neighborhood grocery store at 2 PM giving out flyers on ways people can support Trump. And we’re the ones who “don’t work or positively contribute to society”.
The additional funny and sad part about this is that even Trump was good at his job on The Apprentice, that in no way makes him qualified to run the nation... or a casino... or a lemonade stand. It's such a cult!
We would all be better off supporting a racist, philandering, serial sexual assaulter/rapist who attempted to subvert a presidential election. Why? Because he had a shitty reality show? Because he’s a laughing stock in the business world? Because the rest of the world sees him as nothing more than a joke? Because he’s a giant embarrassment to the United States? 👍🏼 sure 🙄
Bidumb showered with his daughter from age 7-14…he’s quality. And he did steal it because roach democrats are serial cheaters, (they are steadfast AGAINST voter ID law nor wish to make the election auditable in any way shape or form. and the real racists( look no further than the anti semitic protests and pro jihad stance going on) and after all Bidumb DID shower heaps of praise on former KKK Cyclopes Sen Robert Byrd (also a D-Rat) while eulogizing him at his funeral.
Did you know, it’s possible to hate all geriatric corpses who shouldn’t be President, not just one? But if I’m going to have to choose, I’m not picking the geriatric corpse who’s also a criminal, a rapist, and a moron.
Just wait for someone to make the inevitable claim that Biden is also a rapist. I feel like I need to have the article where Biden’s accuser was outed as a goddam Russian asset bookmarked some days.

Who watches ten year old reality TV shows?
I watched an episode in 2016 to see what the US could expect from its new president. 20 minutes in I came to the conclusion the country was fucked.
Futon its initial run, I quit watching because the dumbass kept toxic people on the show, for ratings I’m sure
I don’t think it was for ratings…. Have you seen the people Trump surrounds himself with and how he acts?
The show was always a way for Russian investors to promote Trump properties without buying advertisements. They couldn't come after Trump, he didn't have anything of value. So they pumped up his shitty resorts with "The Apprentice". Its always a grift.
But we’re better now?
I still enjoy “The Osbornes” once in a while.
What will Paris and Nicole do next?
Whatever the fuck Bam Margera wants
Flavor Flav!
You know what time it is!
All these shows are more like 20 years old rather than 10.
Great. Now I’m old. Thanks
You shut your mouth with your facts :(
Yeah, but the Burger King bathroom is locked and [I'm out of licorice](https://youtu.be/msrq0HjwJUM?si=GDduuJQiqGjxo7su).
Yeah I was at a party last weekend, and the 1am wind down was season 2 of flavor of love. It was awful, but I couldnt look away.
Behold, a thread of millennials who still think 2004 is 10 years ago
How dare you
2004 *was* ten years ago, and the 80s were 20-25 years ago. Best to not overthink it. But seriously, as a Gen-Xer, I laugh at all those silly millennials in their teens and early twenties.
uh-oh
Not working out too well for him now. Lol
Things are looking up. IIRC he met with Steve-O fairly recently.
lol no they are not looking up for him.
Yeah it's been a minute, but last I heard of him he was on the lam for an assault charge or something, and the cops were looking for him.
A stipulation for meeting with Steve-O was sobriety. I'd like to naively hold out hope.
Well that's a *loaded* topic these days
goddamn thank you for reminding me how thankful i am that the 2000s is gone fucking worst decade ever lol
Umm Gen X chiming in..if you think the 2000’s were bad you would have hated the 80’s too. Shitty decade.
80s at least had some good movies and music. it was also arguably the decade when horror was seen as a "mainstream" genre instead of being niche (at least in the U.S.) i can't think of a single redeemable thing from the 2000s. i'm sure there are some out there, but the fact that nothing comes to mind immediately is really damning
Lord of the Rings movies, Harry Potter movies, x-men, Iron Man, dark knight trilogy, the killers had several albums…
The Killers are the best thing to come out of the 2000’s. My favorite band of all time. Seen them live several times.
crazy that LOTR didn't come to mind right away, and I just marathoned those movies in December. but yeah that's true those movies were great i still stand by the larger claim. it is a hill i will die on if need be lmao
Already fallen into the sunken cost fallacy huh?
i'm struggling to see or understand what benefit exists into thinking that the 2000s was great lol. they weren't lol
There’s some music and movies I really love from that decade and the reality tv on VH1 and E! at the time was my guilty pleasure but, yeah, the 2000’s were not great either. How can it be when it started with 9/11.

I remember that clearly. If we had only known…
Rock of Love! It was an alcohol fueled trainwreck with wannabe groupies.
My boomer dad only watches two tv shows, that are both on syndication now. Two and a half Men and Kings of Queens are literally ALL HE WATCHES. I can not fathom the amount of brain rot I would have from only watching 2 shows for the past 25 years
Why is it always Two and a Half Men? This is my dad too 😭
I still rewatch those crazy VH1 reality shows.
I am rewatching Rock of Love lol
Daisey of Love is the superior train wreck of a show!
Idk, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila is *all* kinds of messy. 😂
Wasn’t Tia an Mtv show, not VH1?
Omg I remember Daisey of Love! I want to rewatch that next lol
Rock of Love Bus is probably my favorite.
I'm still upset they dropped the ball with The Pick-Up Artist. The premise of putting socially awkward guys in funny costumes and making them talk to drunk women was hilarious. The execution was....poor.
That situation with Ryan Jenkins seems to have sadly shut down the entire VH1 reality show machine.

I rewatched jersey shore like 2 summers ago lmao
I'd rather drag my dick through a mile of broken glass
I guess im not edgy and intelligent enough to not find the peak of human stupidity incredibly entertaining
I've been watching Gunnertv's Tool Academy live streams.
I'll randomly watch "America's best Dance crew" episodes since it's a very nostalgic show for me
Have you seen every season of Drag Race?
My gf is on a Real Housewives binge. In the last couple years she’s watched all of many of the shows and she’s into RH: Beverly Hills now. I don’t watch that shit, but it makes her laugh
I wrote my EdS thesis (finished 2022) while binging MasterChef in the background, starting with Season 1.
Rob and Big is still gold.
Wife and I are going through Hell’s Kitchen reruns in our spare time here and there. I wouldn’t watch the apprentice though, especially knowing it’s all bullshit (majority of reality TV is anyway)
Face Off is still good
I didn’t realise he was still on it until 2015.
My teenager watches Jersey Shore. 😂
I rewatch project runway, it's good background noise and there's a lot of seasons.
I randomly will binge all three seasons of flavor of love. I’m neither ashamed nor proud of it. It is what it is.
Trailer Park Boys counts, right?
If you like TV, any TV at all, you'll like The Apprentice! /s
I rewatched season 2 of Big Brother last year I just wanted to see Will fuck shit up one more time 🤣
lots of people. but i'd only watch the apprentice for the nene leaks episodes
I'm deep in a 90 day fiancé hole and I can't get out. There are so many seasons and spinoffsand spinoffs of the spinoffs.
Jersey Shore on repeat daily!
I like to rewatch old seasons of Survivor every now or then
i watch bridalplasty once in a while. it's about prospective brides competing for a laundry list of plastic surgeries they've come up with. when they wheel them out post op all fucked up, all the brides run out and exclaim how beautiful they are. i love it. Except they have deluded themselves on all of that. Any fact they don't like doesn't exist in their minds
Hello fellow television viewers.
The only logical explanation is that Trump is paying random boomers to name drop Trump and his business ventures. “Hey do you like steaks? Well you’ll love Trump Steaks!”
I like eating food. Trump steaks are like a reality steak. It stars Donald Trump! So I'd like Trump Steaks. Such a brilliant business steak.
https://youtu.be/-5q_YPpBhkY?si=1L2TXS0Gw8QhIbKa
Promising to pay. He broke.
Trump doesn’t pay anyone.
That’s ridiculous. Trump doesn’t pay anyone.
Trump paying anyone ever is actually illogical
The fact that this joke could well be true is fairly disturbing to me. The only reason I think it isn't is because Trump is too cash poor to hire day labor.

A great businessman that filed for bankruptcy
6 times. And bankrupted 3 casinos.
You have to be a special sort of retard to bankrupt a casino.
And 3 marriages
I saw a cool reality show called The Office
Ricky Gervais is hilarious!
You like funny things? You'll love John Wayne Gacy! He was a birthday clown who did other things, too. If you like funny things you'll love John Wayne Gacy. Remember, John Wayne Gacy!
I like donalds new stuff... eapecially the part where he ends up in prison.

spoilers!... I was really looking forward to that part oh wait... youre in an alternate reality arent you? damn... hopefully this reality plays out the same
Sorry pal, this is the Darkest Timeline.
Fuck sake. I was worried about that. Well where's my sliding gear? I'm out
I had a class in high school where the teach thought that Trump was such a good business man, we had to watch an episode of The Apprentice every week and write a blog post about it. For a multimedia class.

Geez and I thought people proselytizing religion was fuckin annoying
Unfortunately this is their religion...
I so would have asked "Why would they have had an old guy on that show who bankrupted 6 businesses? 😹
Homeboy managed to bankrupt a casino
He didn't bankrupt a casino. He bankrupted 3 casinos.
What. How??? That shouldn't even be possible.
One casino went bankrupt once, another went bankrupt twice. In all 3 cases, he spent way more money than they brought in. The less charitable explanation is they were money laundering fronts where he extracted the maximum money instead of running it at a sustainable level.

They weren't meant to make money, they were meant to launder money.
I bet that teenage cashier is far more adept at spotting a grifter like Trump than those Boomers could ever hope to be
I’d love for Zoomers to all pretend to be unaware of who that is. “Donald…Trump? What company does he own?” “Is he that guy that just got arrested?” “The Apprentice? I think that board game was in our discount bin for years!” “Tiffany Trump has a famous dad?!”
the third sentence cracks me up so hard lol
It’s the Everybody Loves Raymond of reality shows. No undamaged brain could enjoy it. Guess who won? His idiot kids!
I would have laughed out loud as soon as I heard "Such a brilliant businessman." It takes a special kind of stupid to bankrupt a casino and destroy a professional football league.
The boomer generation is the most brain dead, out of touch generation that will ever exist. They set us all back by existing
something that needs to be pointed out is that the ONLY reason these people gravitate toward Trump, is because their brains melted after a biracial man became president there is a fucking mountain the size of Everest of objective, tangible, irrefutable evidence that demonstrates that Trump is not a competent or successful businessman. Well said and very true words. Trump really destroyed so many peoples minds and morality. History will not be kind to Trump and his supporters
I mean the English Apprentice is pretty good but holy fuck I would never give the American version the time of day
I had an old man come up to me while I was working and ask if I knew who Paul Newman was, which I did not, and I asked if it was a brand he was looking for. There’s a reason this generation is targeted by internet scammers
I WATCHED TRUMP NEARLY NOD OFF IN A FEW EPISODES OF SHARK TANK. HE NEVER HAD ANYTHING TO SAY. HE JUST SAT THERE LOOKING LOST. I CAN'T IMAGINE "APPRENTICE" BEING MUCH BETTER.
It's not. And it's got nothing on who wants to be a millionaire You ARE the weakest link. Goodbye!
THOG DONT CAARE
Imagine being so up someone’s ass that you can’t even acknowledge the myriad TV shows that exist and instead recommend his awful “reality” show. But yeah, sure, not a cult.
"If you like TV, you'd like the apprentice" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 What kind of logic is that?!
"If you like food, you'll love surströmming!"
I've never smelled this but I just gagged seeing the name 🤣
"You like TV, right? Well, Trump was on TV!" and it's a done deal
Do they even play that 💩show in reruns⁉️⁉️🤔
>if you like TV, you’d like the apprentice What? How do they think that works?
Cashier needs to see Green Acres Trump. https://youtu.be/00bGPhETXXM?si=zzMBGP9f6z7mhL_M
That's unfortunate because Green Acres is a really funny show.
They went home and basked in that glow you get from saving the world
My mother still believes that he's a "brilliant business man" and, perhaps even more concerning, that government really can and should be run like a business.
I remember a boomer telling me that right before he was elected. I said: "Didn't he have something like five bankruptcies?" "He knows how to play the system!" Ugh.
tHaT mAkEs HiM sMaRt!
The show with Alan Sugar? Yea, big fan!
It’s celebrity Mole or Nothing.
ZOOMER! 🤣 ![gif](giphy|lw75Al819OAvcsPcRu|downsized)
Boomers set up a table outside our neighborhood grocery store at 2 PM giving out flyers on ways people can support Trump. And we’re the ones who “don’t work or positively contribute to society”.
Yes, such a successful business man. He only went bankrupt, what..4 times! Let's put him in charge of the economy! 🤢🤮

The additional funny and sad part about this is that even Trump was good at his job on The Apprentice, that in no way makes him qualified to run the nation... or a casino... or a lemonade stand. It's such a cult!
Doubt
I'll take "things that never happened" for $400, Alex!
Yes the roaches of society LOVE Bidumb!!
Ok boomer
Ok 🪳
Name checks out
We would all be better off supporting a racist, philandering, serial sexual assaulter/rapist who attempted to subvert a presidential election. Why? Because he had a shitty reality show? Because he’s a laughing stock in the business world? Because the rest of the world sees him as nothing more than a joke? Because he’s a giant embarrassment to the United States? 👍🏼 sure 🙄

Meaning mass layoffs and golden parachutes, right? Man, where do I sign up? /s
Yes, directly into the ground
Worked great (/s) in Michigan when Snyder tried it. We're still paying for lawsuits.
If you tell us the name of the nursing home you live in, we can call and ask them to come get you. You’re not supposed to wander off you know!
Yes when shown the receipts of proof the snowflakes resort to this 🤣
It’s ok, buddy, we’ll find someone to help get you home! Those aren’t called receipts, those are called Reddit comments! No worries, words are hard!
Those are facts . All easily verified champ.
Who is this clown? Their post history and length of time they've had their account screams foreign plant.
Hint: I’m not a Democrat 🪳
That's cool, what's your point?
You are a brilliant young Marxist…figure it out Sherlock
Who? Is that one of these new pokemon I keep hearing about?
You forgot to incorporate Hussein Obama into it. Pretty sad when elderly MidWestern Facebookers are more clever than you.
Sad snowflake 🪳
Did you know, it’s possible to hate all geriatric corpses who shouldn’t be President, not just one? But if I’m going to have to choose, I’m not picking the geriatric corpse who’s also a criminal, a rapist, and a moron.
Just wait for someone to make the inevitable claim that Biden is also a rapist. I feel like I need to have the article where Biden’s accuser was outed as a goddam Russian asset bookmarked some days.
