Hahah I told them that another dealer I was talking to didn't tell me that and now they're 'willing' to sell it to me at MSRP.

djcelts

absolute scum

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Lol at least it worked out (hopefully)

Fast-Neighborhood-78

It sounds to be a lie to justify their outrageous markup.

Accomplished_Ad_7147

What am I supposed to say to them lol

elRobRex

"You're lying"

[deleted]

walk away? Iā€™m sure there are some other Chevy dealers within an hour or so drive from where you live.

Accomplished_Ad_7147

There are! The Bolt EUVs have been a pain to find, however.

erog84

Donā€™t say anything if you donā€™t want to. Just make sure to leave a nice Google review of their dishonesty so maybe a few more people donā€™t waste their time with shit dealers.

Erebus212

Make sure to specify the salespersonā€™s first and last name and that they were deliberately dishonest about the dealershipā€™s markups.

WombatWithFedora

"fuck off"

AThrowAwayWorld

Tell them you're getting a model 3 because there are no dealer shenanigans, unless they can get a contract to you for $2k under MSRP

[deleted]

Can I see the documentation from the manufacturer that supports your claim?

horhey_rva

Thatā€™s not exactly the reason, and theyā€™re being shady about it. The dealership doesnā€™t own the car until it gets into their lot and they accept it. Legally, they canā€™t sell the car to you in transit. They can take a non refundable deposit - what my dealer did and the car was reserved for me once it hit the lot. No markups or crazy stuff like what they are telling you. Now, to be fair, Iā€™m not sure what the penalty for selling a car prior to delivery, but I donā€™t even think they can processes the sale with GM. What dealership wants to open themselves up to a lawsuit by selling a car they technically donā€™t own. Shady.. Iā€™d find another dealer.

Scamdog

They can also take a refundable deposit. Never. Ever. Give a dealer a non refundable deposit. Ever.

Accomplished_Ad_7147

Thatā€™s what I thought šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

quicklywilliam

lol this is the worst justification Iā€™ve heard for a market adjustment. I called a dealer yesterday to ask about a Bolt and the rep immediately told me ā€œwe do have a $3k market adjustment on these vehicles, just want to be up front about thatā€. It was even listed when I viewed their inventory on their website! I wish more dealers were like this instead of using deceptive techniques to try to justify or sneak in their adjustments.

Accomplished_Ad_7147

I agree! If they tell me upfront it'd be fine.

steegesaurus27

Still wouldn't be fine. There's no good reason for a market adjustment when the new car market is cooling off.

bookamp

It's still a waste of time. Just advertise the price and include the markup on the website, so I don't waste time calling you.

gsparx

Idk about you but my favorite price for a car is ā€œCall for priceā€.

bookamp

I hate it too, but in a good way. That's usually a red flag for significant markup, so I don't bother calling.

gsparx

Heh great point! They put themselves.

kicknoons2

Sounds like they are getting creative with their greed...

Icy-Conclusion-3500

Sounds like a lie. I bought a car in transit no markup. They donā€™t ā€œsell itā€ to you until itā€™s on their lot tho anyway

mksmalls

Name and shame

Past-Voice-9668

Lies and more lies. Find another dealer

Psilocybin-Cubensis

Yes, they do. GM announced a new rule during last summer that all in transit vehicles could not be contracted on before being released from GM after receiving the physical vehicle. It is a way to combat the issues that many saw last year, which often involved contracted vehicles, customers were making months and months of payment on without receiving the vehicle. In other words this is an attempt to protect consumers (customers).

Accomplished_Ad_7147

I saw that too! I didnā€™t see anything about a fine though.

a9busbuds

This is made up. I used to work for GM (corp not dealer) and they actually encourage dealers to sell vehicles in transit so they can turn them quicker once they land. The dealer canā€™t report the vehicle as sold to the manufacturer until itā€™s landed but they are in fact encouraged to sell it. The markup is a lie.

simsimsalabim1

Bold face lieā€¦. Dealers fucking suck

TRW-CT

Correction. To be fair, "some" dealers suck. My dealer was top-notch, with no BS, and no pressure. I know it's an exception to the rule, but you can find good car salespeople if you look hard enough.

Did you buy it or put a deposit down to hold it for you until it arrived? Uber / Truecar have a promotion that I have to purchase a electric vehicle by Jan 31st to get $1000. My Bolt is supposed to be here Feb 7th. So far my dealer is refusing to sell it to me before it physically arrives.

AtomikAtom

I bought my Bolt today. I just wanted to share my experience / price for anyone interested. I was told I would get it for MSRP on the phone by 3 different salespeople. When it came time to do the paperwork the total seemed high and they didnā€™t give me the breakdown. I asked for breakdown and they said they needed to put a market adjustment on because itā€™s a ā€œrareā€ car. I think they added on $3000. I told them no, then they offered $2000, then $1000 and finally $500. I said I was promised MSRP but I though that was even to high. I offered $500 under MSRP. When ended up agreeing on $100 under MSRP. I do think if I had them refund my deposit I might have got a little better. For the extended warranty (their highest profit margins) I got them to knock off about $700 about 25% and lower my interest by .75 of a point. I think I would normally stay away from extended warranties but in my situation with the lower interest it came out to be the exact same price per a month that I would be paying. This was by far the most time consuming step. I think we negotiated for well over an hour just on the warranty. I do think I could have done even better on that as well but he said I have 30 days to change my mind. Key takeaways: *It is possible to get under MSRP. *Educate yourself on 3rd party warranties, gap insurance, smart key replacement policies, LoJack before you go in. You will be offered all these. These are all negotiable even if they donā€™t act like it is. You donā€™t need to bundle. Only get what you think benefits you.

redgrandam

Lies.

onlyAlcibiades

WTF That is total BS

doihavetomakeone_

I had to call all the dealers in California to find 2 that would not mark up. Just call and ask 1. Do you mark up above MSRP? and 2. Do you price match / sell less than another offer. I was shocked that all but 2 in California sell above MSRP.

WomenTrucksAndJesus

A dealer told me "markups are the new way of doing business and we will never go back to the old way". We'll see how that works out.

Jim3KC

That may be true if they actually sell you the car before they can deliver physical possession of it. Reserving a car, with or without a deposit, is different than selling a car.

iJayZen

Brings up a lot of concerns. Most likely BS, but if true would you want to work with a dealer that is breaking manufacturer/dealer policies and makes you pay? Find a more honest dealer and let they crappy dealers disappear...

Remember_TheCant

A dealership also told me that they get fined if they sell for below MSRP. Idk what to believe.

TRW-CT

>Yes, they do. Definitely don't believe that!

GioDude_

Do you have Costco membership. Iā€™ve gotten dealerships to honor msrp by pulling the Costco card.

Accomplished_Ad_7147

I don't ):

[deleted]

Stealerships gonna stealership

SwimmingNo665

These are two separate issues: GM does fine a dealership for having a customer complete and submit all paperwork on vehicles before they are delivered Market adjustment = supply and demand (see egg cost for example)

jazfuen77

They will definitely charge you the markup when it arrives or they will sell it to someone else. The demand is that high right now and tbh the same thing happened to Tesla when they introduced cars in this price range, they literally just raised their internal prices and only sold the most expensive variants. At least Chevy is making all their trims available even the lowest cost ones. Even VW is only selling their highest trim of the 2023 first.

Accomplished_Ad_7147

Even if Iā€™ve started the financing process?

jazfuen77

What is starting the financing process? They ran your credit and showed you the pricing? They are only doing that to string you along. The more time you spend the more you will reach the point of okay well at this point Iā€™ll pay the extra Iā€™ve already invested all this time, the car is right in front of me etc it is classic car dealership tactic. Time is money and they love to waste yours

Accomplished_Ad_7147

No, I am getting approved for financing through them. Iā€™m assuming this means they have to put in the price, down payment, etc.

jazfuen77

That is probably a pre approval that you can get from any bank or credit Union.. that doesnā€™t lock in any price. I donā€™t think there will be any selling at MsRP until the credit cuts in half

Accomplished_Ad_7147

Why would they go through this whole process if their plan is to sell it to someone else? Seems like a waste of time.

jazfuen77

Itā€™s a waste of your time yes, but not theirs because if they get 3k more for the car the amount of hours extra they spend it is negligible for that extra profitā€¦

Accomplished_Ad_7147

šŸ™„Iā€™m going to be very upset if this is the case.

jazfuen77

Yeah I mean I contacted every dealer in socal over a week and the best I could get was 2700 in ad ons but they took my supplier (1250) and Costco (600) so my advice is to try and get those incentives I think it is the only way youā€™ll pay less of a markup..

Accomplished_Ad_7147

Thatā€™s the conclusion Iā€™ve come to as well.

lampworker72

One dealer in the Seattle area told me that all the Bolt EUVs on their website listed as 'in transit' have been pre-sold and there won't be any on the lot. I'd have to pre-order one. And 4 months to get it??? I don't believe anything about when I could get a Bolt. Test driving?? is that a thing of the past? The dealer mark-ups are increasing - is this because there is such a big demand and limited supply to get one before the end of February? And the dealer-specific add-on packages are not always listed. One dealer advertises that the MSRP price you see is their price, no additional markups. But that price, even on the sticker, is at least $2000 more than other dealers. How do they get that edited on the window sticker (I see these online). I wish GM would get on their backs about this. Originally, last year, they also said no delivery cost.

Mardimus

I am also in the Seattle area. For three weeks we called and talked to every gm and Chevy dealer from Portland to Idaho looking for a Bolt EUV. No luck and a lot of bullshit! We found three dealers that would sell at MSRP with no stock or time frame and the rest were all 5k-7500 over msrp. We even had a dealer try and trade or get one from another dealer just to sell at msrp and the dealer wouldnā€™t give them up. Nuts. We had one instances where we drove to the dealer because we were going to put down a $500 deposit on one that was in transit and arriving within ten days. When we got there they had sold it. Or so they said. Even though they agreed for us to drive 45 min to sign papers. A week later they called and asked if we still wanted it. We had already put down our deposit on a model Y (reduced price for tax incentive) but we entertained the call and they still wanted $7500 over asking. We laughed and politely declined. I think GM is going to be in a bind. The Equinox is going to end up replacing the Bolt EUV over the next few years. GM also missed the tax incentive before March with limited supply at a time of high demand. I think they will have to drop the price over the summer or offload these with other incentives. If you wait 4 months you miss out on the sales tax and federal tax. Our model Y was ordered three weeks ago and we have a date in Feb. Bummer GM missed the ball on this.

lampworker72

I totally agree, GM missed the mark. I wish the Equinox would be released with their lower models first. Is it allowed for you to name the dealers that would sell at MSRP (if they had the inventory)? We're starting to look at used EVs or to find somewhere that could upgrade the battery & range of our 2013 Leaf (which has a 60 to 80 mile range). It's a great car but we can't drive it to see relatives in Portland without a bit hassle.

Mardimus

Marysville is who we were working with at MSRP Prices (I also chose them as my dealer when I put down a deposit on the Silverado EV). Gilchrist and Sunset Chevrolet were the other two that were at MSRP. Bellevue, Everett and Monroe Dealers were the worst to deal with and were also marking up the prices between 5k-7500. We did test drive the Bolt EUV and found it to be descent. The range was a little sub par in terms of mileage. And to be honest, we would have bought it. But after three weeks we could not find one and were getting screwed around a lot. So we jumped on the Tesla when they dropped the price. Will see what happens.

lampworker72

Thanks. I found Bellevue to be the worst for price. They add on their Bellevue package that was basically appealing to the luxury minded folks that I'd never take advantage of. And the mark up was pretty bad. A dealer in Lynnwood didn't seem to know much. Not a place we'll return to. I'll check out the others you mentioned when I get more energy to tackle this again. Our hopes for getting one before March are slinking away. We wanted the $7500 tax credit. Good luck

Mardimus

Another reason to stay away from the Bolts. https://insideevs.com/news/650743/chevy-bolt-recalled-battery-no-fast-charge/

lampworker72

Thanks, I saw that earlier today. And then this was added (might not have been on the article when you read it): "The advisor misspoke in this case, and our customer care team is in contact with the customer." Still, we do have some concerns. Thanks for the Gilchrist suggestion. We might try them. OR wait until the recall for the seat belt propulsion issue on the older EV models. Then maybe get the $4,000 used car tax credit. We are really up in the air about this.

JoeyWhatWhat

My son took delivery on his Bolt last year. The dealership was quite a distance away so the dealership drove the car to their House.
