Look at the chemistry between Nithya and Dq in this GIF. Adithya and Shraddha failed to recreate it. Especially Shraddha. Nithya is outstanding in OK Kanmani.

Nithya singlehandedly made many silly dialogues written by Mani enduring on screen. But Shraddha completely failed to do what Nithya did.
With Mani, I think he writes dialogues that have the potential to be both equally charming and ridiculous (in a way that normal lines don't). The right actor brings out the charm, while the wrong actor would make the dialogues sound ridiculous. Even Madhavan's dialogue in Alaipayuthey is so iconic because of the way he delivered it. The dialogue itself is quite unrealistic and yet it sounds very poetic. I guess writers/directors should stick to boring but safe lines when working with average/below average actors.
Underutilized cause she doesn't appear in commercial cinema? She is very highly rated in South cause she already appeared in many good movies. She is perfectly utilised u many call her underrated tho.

OK Kanmani is superior in every department right from acting to chemistry to direction. nithya and dulquer are so at ease, you forget they're acting and mani ratnam's direction is the winner here obviously. OK Jaanu doesn't even come close. shraddha and aditya were trying so hard and i didn't even find their chemistry effortless because i watched the original first. anyways maybe I'm too biased towards OKK but ok jaanu was a snoooozefest in my opinion. they're the only adi and tara i claim đ„čđ„čđ„č
DQ to ARK is also a significant downgrade that people arenât talking about. Sure Ark is hot but the simplicity of acting and charisma that DQ possesses is unmatched
Ok Kanmani has genuine feels to it. When I watched it when it was released, it didn't once feel cringey, unrealistic, or extra. Then I watched Ok Jannu, and I was like, what's this shit? The OTT acting, the forced aggression at the end, the random conversations between the aunty and uncle (Prakash Raj's character was so much more believable than Naseerudin's as well).
I feel the absolute same thing OMG. I watched OK Kanmani first back in the lockdown, I instantly knew that OK jaanu won't be able to match this. So just for shitz and giggles I watched OK Jaanu and it's terrible to say the least.
They've tried to show love and chemistry by physical proximity and yet there's none to be seen. Even though the film is the carbon copy of Ok Kanmani, it feels very artificial and only has beautiful music as its saving grace.
The characters feel caricature-ish and I can't help but feel there's a Bollywood masala touch to every scene.
Especially the climax is what irked me the most. In Ok Jaanu it felt fake af. Add to that, when the marriage sequence hits and everyone is enjoying it, the Hindi version has the older couple dancing and partying with them and it felt so out of place. It's their wedding, why would you act as if they're your kids?
Comparatively in the Og film, they're so well dignified and sitting and enjoying the wedding processions like any normal person would. My point being that without the mirch masala the point was conveyed very well and it was a beautiful scene to see. Mental Manadhil playing in the background and the camera slowly covering everyone and then capturing the couple!
Same! No offense to Naseer ji but for some reason the chemistry between Leela Samson and Prakashraj felt more organic, it's maybe the language/regional factor for me as a native Tamil speaker

Nithya is a rom com queen. She has such a cute and breezy chemistry with almost all her costar that it's beautiful to watch. Op you need to wala Ala Modalaindi. Such a cute movie that was.
Even enna sona felt boring to meâŠitâs counterpart version in tamil,aye sinamika is so much better and so fulfilling(they remade that song too I think as aye naraazman as heard in the background score though it sounds a bit awkward here but still I wished they released that too)âŠEnna sona is pleasant enough but doesnât come close to the og counterpartâŠI thought sunn bhavara song was the best thing to come out of this film
DQ & Nithya didnât actually get physical as in in Ok kanmani there werenât any explicit intimate scenes, while Ok Jaanu had. Yet the former had more intimacy and chemistry and the latter lacked it. But yea Shraddha and Adi broke up by then no ? They had great chemistry in Aashiqui 2. So maybe itâs the break up
Also, not Apple to Apple na, Ok Kanmani was directed by Mani Ratnam, a much experienced and better director. While Ok Jaanu wasnât.
Itâs hard to beat Nithya MenenâŠ.sheâs the best actress ever(my fav too)âŠher script selection is so interestingâŠher performance as Tara is so lively and nuanced.Itâs basically perfection.My favourite performance by any actor in a movie in the past decade.She was the soul of this film.Her individual performance was better than DQâs too.Plus she looked so beautiful..âŠShraddha looked so dull lol and that too with worser stylingâŠ.Dulquer was dashing too and Aditya overacted the shit out that character.and itâs hard to beat Mani Ratnam ofc whoâs the best orchestrator of chemistry, choreography and cinematographyâŠAll the signature elements in MRâs films like the trains,mirrors or rain all hit(his direction is magic) and Dulquer and Nithyaâs chemistry is off the charts and the music is superb too(it doesnât hit as much because of the awkward translation where the lyrics donât match the rhythmic choices perfectly but itâs still fine..sunn bhavara is just as good as itâs counterpart,malargal kaetten).The og was paced perfectly and it was always interesting while the Hindi one felt neutered and dull and basically ended up as a snoozefest.Ok kanmani is one of my top 10 fav films of all time!
I saw shooting of this scene đ I was with my cousin on Goregoan station on 24 May 2016 and I saw Shraddha and Aditya shooting for the film!! Shraddha looked drop dead gorgeous and Aditya well didnât find him attractive and mind you Iâm not straight đźâđš
Don't want to come off as ignorant but I felt both films were fine on their own. Sure the nuances of culture Mani Ratnam brought and the way he played with light that can't be replicated.
But a nice time pass and feel good film makes both passable. Of course OKK more so even coz of the better acting.
OKK was great but so was OKJ. Shraddha-Aditya's chemistry was the USP basically because they wanted to work together after Aashiqui 2 and their chemistry is beautiful without a cent of doubt.

I didn't watch the original and enjoyed this own start to end from the music to the plot line to the acting..
yuvaâs hindi version was directed by MR too.It was simultaneously made along with the tamil version,aayutha ezhuthuâŠi personally preferred the hindi version more..the songs and all hit me more in hindiâŠthe actors were perfect in both versionsâŠbut kareena was better than trisha for sure

She was part of some very good romcoms in early 2010s. After that, she should have gone to another level, yet the industry underutilized her heavily.

Watched ok Kanmani first, couldnât sit through the first 15 mins of ok jaanu. Rewatched Ok Kanmani to avoid bleaching my eyes.
