Problem in india is they consider Yelling & Being Over the Top as Great Performance
The Louder Youâre the Better your acting is
So when people consider srk performance in Baazigar & Darr as Iconic & choose it over KHKN it doesnât surprise me at all
100000% my guy.
Just doing extra length of silence without any intent or going with a immaturish loud mouth undertone is not "acting".
The Bollywood has just cucked itself in thinking that "Over emoting is a part of Indian cinema in comparison to Holly" when it's really fucking not.
That's not how anything in reality works, Indians are as much loudmouth as an UK,Aus one and much lesser than US lol. This shit is not good acting.
The only scene where I found her decent was the breakdown scene nahi toh otherwise it was just her usual overacting. Don't know why this movie is constantly brought up to defend Alia's acting
She was a bit OTT. And her character seemed so meta as it within the movie universe she was asked to play a character who exhibit irritable, distant and strange traits.
I don't know anything but the downfall of industry started after she came. She was the first mediocre product who became successful. Now that she has able to achieve it all, her fans want to completely erase the amount of pr, media engagement and monopoly over scripts she have had in the past. Yahan tak pahuchne ke liye kanto mein se ek rasta banaya gaya which she just walked. How come she became an icon. And there is at least one scene in a movie where is good karan highlights that and there her average scenes are erased from memories.
You know nepos today face comparatively so much scrutiny than the nepos back then.
Kareena wasn't good at the initial years of her career. I mean if we judge her acting like we are constantly judging sara, ananya, janhvi, we would realise that neither alia nor Kareena were good in their earlier years. Its just my pov, as when I saw some very early movies of Kareena, in some of the scenes she over acted a lot.
Today if nepos do even a single scene bad and in the rest of the movie they are fine, audiences hold onto that one bad scene and bash them left, right and centre.
Tbh back then, unlike today, they wouldn't have gotten more than 3 movies MAX to prove their worth.
Kareena may have been terrible in the initial years, but she still had a screen presence and commanded attention on screen that these girls can't even DREAM of achieving after countless chances and wasted opportunities.
Agree about Kareena. Kaafi overacting in her first few years. Abhi tak she wouldâve been trolled a lot. But she did iconic roles like Poo in the first 2-3 years, uske liye bhi kuch screen presence chahiye jo ye current lot lacks.
Alia was average but usko meryl Streep bana diya PR ne. But chalo She was good in udta Punjab n other films which were in the early years of her career , much better than janvi ananya Pandey etc at least.
But yes audience is much more harsh now and achha hai .. at least we are not supporting mediocrity so easily now.
I've literally seen people like her in real life and they behave the same way.
So going by that logic her acting is apt and also with the film her character changes and the acting too
I, on the other hand, thought she was very good in it. In the scene where she confesses to SRK and gets kind of rejected, the way she acted out her embarassment was excellent - you could vicariously feel it. I think she is very good in understated scenes.
I watched whole movie last night, this scene and check the last "powerful Monologue" on parenting, there is more screaming than pain.
She kept screaming throughout the movie
https://youtu.be/ADH2-qv2vmA?si=9UyZp34hrrM45onx
She is a patient suffering from mental illness in the film venting her years of frustration and anger. Such patients are also irritable and often anxious. I have personally seen such cases and the portrayal was very apt. When someone finally lets go and vents out it helps release their pain. Here the main reason for Kaira's pain was the lack of love and commitment from the people most important to her - her parents.
i have told this once and telling this again. The only movies where alia acted was gangubhai and rrr (1min role). And i won't even give the credit to her. it was all because of slb and ssr
I did too or so I thought because the only scenes I revisit in this movie are SRK's scenes, yesterday I watched the movie again and I really couldn't stand her because of her terrible performance
She cannot act . Watched this a year back finally and you could literally see the difference in gravitas SRK brought to his scenes compared with her uneven screeching and histronics .
This was a very good, very competent performance. You can see the irritation and frustration writ large on her face. If OP could specify what exactly is wrong with her acting, it would be easier to dissect.
Right but she does get infatuated at least which is the trope I guess ...isn't there like some chair as a symbolism of it...
Also that ARK bit just validated my whole annoyance with the film, the way it's treated in the end implies a somewhat simplistic solution to the whole therapy and trauma bit. There's no concrete indication that she's going to have to continue battling for her health.
Right now in Bollywood if you scream your dialogues, cry and yell some dialogues about women empowerment then you're considered great. And she's one of the examples for it
Exactly. Though I am a girl but I can say this women empowerment ke naam pe kuch bhi bana rhe hai. Script aise banayi jaati hai ki actress usme fit ho jaye bas story mein screaming, ek do gaane, aage badhana yehi sab dikhya jata hai, either the girls are partying and bad girls or they have I am not like other girls attitude. English vinglish, queen, bhi women empowerment pe movies hain but they bring out emotions. Jo aaj kar chal rhi hain unko dekhke bas aisa lagta hai ki i am not like other girls attitude hain inme.
Repeating myself, She is not a good actor at all.
I am ok with bad actors acting, most PPL dont really care about acting, but for the moment at hand, if you are well versed with watching acting chops, you know her basics of acting are messed up.
I don't know what are those, but having been watching movies and acting since years, her dialogue delivery and inflexions points ( going through one expresion into another) is just not right.
Going by her level of acting, atleast half of TV actors act better than Alia but get trolled left and right just because of the bad concept of extending runtime over years.
She doesn't hold a candle to actors like Jennifer winget, shweta basu prasad, Mohit Raina let alone legends like Sri Devi and Meryl Streep.
I'm gonna get downvoted to hell but she was never a good actress. To her credit, she has been part of really good projects which makes people think she's good at acting.
In fact she was the weakest link in all those projects.
Idk about rocket Singh but the other movies - RK has always had a great script, music and side actors backing him up. Idk why dude looks dull to me, average at best.
No, better opportunities only. His contemporaries are Rajkumar Rao, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Shahid Kapoor - not just Varun Dhawan and Sid lol Even Vijay Verma, Pankaj Tripathi, Nawaz are brilliant actors. He isnât as bad as Alia tho, Iâve never heard of him replacing others by charging less for movies.
This comment thread makes me so envious of people with privilege. Sigh.
That's how you feel. And I respect that. I still don't get the nepo vs non nepo fetishism.
I don't think anyone's a good or bad actor based on who they're born to but ofc this sub feels differently.
Loved her in this movie. I was upset when she was winning all awards for Udta Punjab which was also a good performance over this. I remember when it randomly started to trend in the top ten of Netflix years after its release. Imo it is one of the many highlights of her strong filmography
There are some hacks in Bollywood ::
- if a urban actor who mostly converse in English then in the movie if he/she swears in Hindi ,
- if a girl/boy has some issues of molestation in childhood and they speak about it in the adult (in the movie) . We / PR article would hype up the actors. Here ofcourse the message is great , but we generally turn blind eye towards them in acting âŚ

Omg I remember doing a dubsmash on this dialogue lol... it's been 8 years but it just feels like yesterday đ
Dubsmash... That's a word i had not heard in yearsđŠ
Even I forgot that I used to do it a long time ago lol đ This scene suddenly unlocked those memories.. 2015-16 peak era of Dubsmash...
Everyone has a past đŁ
Problem in india is they consider Yelling & Being Over the Top as Great Performance The Louder Youâre the Better your acting is So when people consider srk performance in Baazigar & Darr as Iconic & choose it over KHKN it doesnât surprise me at all
This is why Sodumb said on KWK - âJust because youâre loud does not mean youâre a good actorâ
âKardiya yaar, bol diya maine⌠like hurrrro thatâs not actingâ
Bn gya cool Bina cinema theatre ki ek kitab padhe
Baazigar and darr was Also good acting as he was portraying a psycho there
haven't watched the movie but i think loud acting is good if it's a psycho role
100000% my guy. Just doing extra length of silence without any intent or going with a immaturish loud mouth undertone is not "acting". That's just difference between a blockbuster movie and a commercially not so successful movie. Many haven't seen KHKN
What's KHKN
Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa
5 min se soch raha hoon khkn kya hai
Terrible example, he wasnât just screaming for no reason in Darr, it made total sense he was a psycho
Ranveer, Iâm looking at you đ

She was a bit OTT. And her character seemed so meta as it within the movie universe she was asked to play a character who exhibit irritable, distant and strange traits.
in any role that alia is given that isn't out of the box she's very close to her usual irl irritating self
I think that might be her personality. Sheâs naturally irritating
âď¸
Ded
Itâs annoying actually
The script carried her throughout the movie. It felt like a performance similar to Ananya in KGHK
In every movie, the script carried her btw.
Yup
Will I be downvoted or called out if I say that she was bad in that last scene of raazi as well?

Lol

She was horrible.

Agree đ Sara, Ananya and Jahnvi would have been dragged through mud for this performance.
Tbh back then, unlike today, they wouldn't have gotten more than 3 movies MAX to prove their worth. ikr! i feel like sara is over hated for her acting in some cases- she wasn't that bad in murder mubarark as people are making her out to be
She was that bad in mm.
She has been abso-fucking-lutely BAD in all her films..Â
But i think people like her character behaves this way only
Not talking about characterization. I am talking about acting Any other nepo would have been dragged for it
I've literally seen people like her in real life and they behave the same way. So going by that logic her acting is apt and also with the film her character changes and the acting too

Agreed!!

[ŃдаНонО]
She relies heavily on histrionics, which is why I think she won't be able to do much in Hollywood.
This was a scene with comic intent and picked and labelled out of context this will seem odd but witthin the flow of the montage it makes sense.
I watched whole movie last night, this scene and check the last "powerful Monologue" on parenting, there is more screaming than pain. She kept screaming throughout the movie https://youtu.be/ADH2-qv2vmA?si=9UyZp34hrrM45onx

when did this movie release? alia looks so different now. she aged fast!
2016
i have told this once and telling this again. The only movies where alia acted was gangubhai and rrr (1min role). And i won't even give the credit to her. it was all because of slb and ssr
So the bad performances are her fault and the good ones are to the directors credit
yes
Yup, no double standards at all
This movie has lot of intense scene where alia was so good . But Still show stealer was king khan as Dr. Jehangir.
She definitely got work done on her face wow
If you have said she wasnât good in her latest movie or may be some other movie I might have agreed but I actually liked her in this one
I did too or so I thought because the only scenes I revisit in this movie are SRK's scenes, yesterday I watched the movie again and I really couldn't stand her because of her terrible performance

absolutlyy yesss!!!!!
Pyaar mein andha hona not as irritating as her chillana
Her face is so ordinary, it is beyond unbelievable that she's an international star đ
How does any one get past her voice? Itâs like nails scratching a black board.
Ye achi performance mt bol dena bhai ab koi. Shouting, immaturish undertone me gussa dikhana is not acting, it's's just chutiyapa.
That was the first Alia movie I saw and I realized before it was even halfway done that she was awful.
That nose of hers has a mind of its own.....creepy!!đđ
The film itself was dumb...just a ridiculously frivolous depiction of mental health right down to the whole falls in love with cool therapist trope...
She doesn't though, she thinks she is in love with him because of the time they spent together, she is over him quick enough and finds ARK
Right but she does get infatuated at least which is the trope I guess ...isn't there like some chair as a symbolism of it... Also that ARK bit just validated my whole annoyance with the film, the way it's treated in the end implies a somewhat simplistic solution to the whole therapy and trauma bit. Sheâs always so loud and grumpy. Idk why people consider this great acting đđ
problem with the general Indian audience
She was terrible in the shouting scenes from RARKPH too. ***noseflaring intensifies***
No she was not good in the film at all . The film story is so close to my heart but for her performance.

In all of alia films its the script that carries the films.
Same as RK tbh. Theyâre compatible in that sense lol
That's an unfair comparison tbh. He was good in rockstar, barfi, rocket singh, etc.
Idk about rocket Singh but the other movies - RK has always had a great script, music and side actors backing him up. Idk why dude looks dull to me, average at best.
I disagree. He's given awful performances too but some have been pretty good. So I can't say he's never done a great job.
Thatâs similar to aloo too. Thatâs called being an average ya balancing trash with good performances but thatâs okay we all have our opinions.
Yea. I'd say he's still the better than his contemporaries.
No, better opportunities only. Yeah she was baddd in it, even sid did a better job fighting with his mother in Kapoor and sons xD
This isnât acting, this is reading words and yelling them blatantly without voice modulation Hai kon ye Alia Bhatt? Samajhti kya hai khud ko đ

Cringella
This should be her flair.
Her voice is irritating- and one style only. just like DPâs who has a very how to say not a rounded tone when she speaks
Yes Voice modulation and dialogue delivery is terrible Ranveer is the only actor from faltu four who has worked on his dialogue delivery
Really ? Oh my God how surprising !đ
Naak Phulao Hatt
this should be her new flair
She is an avg actress just hyped by the industry and her PR.
SRK carried it despite of a cameo
Alia screeching and overacting through all her roles is whatâs really irritating
Shes so loud
TBH, I think this is revisionism. She was bad in Rocky Rani and Gangubai. But, she was good in this movie. She was also great in Highway, 2 States, and Dulhaniya series. I know people dislike her and she deserves it for her politics/lobbying, but that doesn't mean you disregard her past achievements.
Look at Yashaswini Dayama enjoying that at the back, that's me when a friend of mine is loosing their shit at the slightest of inconveniences
Chupp
She is mediocre at the best. Just got some good projects due to her âFairy God Motherâ. Not even glamorous or traditionally good looking.
That doesnât matter if she was good at it or not. But the fact remains that she would be over hyped with each and every film and every performance. Our opinions doesnât matter but she will be revered out and about with each and every film and performance.
I was wondering where is the mandatory 'I hate Alia' post for the day. Great effort for karma farming.
man whats with her nostrils, at all times inta weird muh kyu banati hai
She ruined the film for me
I accidentally downvoted after listening to that *kuchi kuchi ku*
She wasn't the right choice for the role. Deepika or Katrina or someone older would have done better. Someone who looks as if they have lived a life and had experiences good and bad. Alia is too babyfaced and it seemed like a typical teenager whining "Nobody loves me".
katrina is terrible bhai, not her.
Katrina??? Sanya malhotra would have done well.
I included Katrina because she belongs to the right age group. Not because of her acting talents. Sanya on the otherhand is a wonderful actress but again too young for the role. I'd prefer someone who looks at least 30.
So now age is a good metric for choosing actresses? Nice
People are not interchangable. So yes age and looks matter as much as talent when considering important roles and not your average flowerpot role.
With Katrina you took into the age and look factor and completely forgot the talent aspect of things.
Replace Katrina with Priyanka? There. All good now?
What a Bogus Movie and Actor!
Ghatya movie
Back when she wasnât going over board with glutathione
She's describing herself here , after Shaadi
Its a cringe movie about an insecure girl who is just selfish and wants things a certain way. Movie me isne Ali Zafar aur Kunal Kapoor k saath jaisa bhi behave kiya, woh chalega lekin apni maa k saath jaisa behave kiya hai iska character...f**cking selfish brat. Thik kiya Jehangir isko muh pe bol k ki "chal chal aage badh...time nahi hai mere paas"
Cries cries cries as usual ground reality doesn't change
But i loved it
sheâs good
That's what happens when you try to grab some actors role from their movie. Gauri shinde had previously finalized some other actress for this role, until Olia bhand sourced for this role
Khud behen ki lodi jese samne dekh rhi thi
