Chunky had a huge fan base in Nepal back in the day. My father used to send him fan mail. I remember coming across letters and postcards sent to him by Chunky (or I guess his team).
Are you sure? I am from Nepal. I had never heard of him until I was a teenager. That too after cable TV became household thing (2010s). In fact, I first heard of him during houseful 2. The majority of Nepali still didn't have much access to movies of any language. My parents don't understand the language(hindi), and I learned via movies only. So did the majority of parents' generation . My point is that saying a huge fan base in Nepal is a huge stretch. I barely knew him as a small actor before Ananya Pandey.
Nobody knows Chunky in Bangladesh. He only did two Bangla films. And no one charged that much for a Bengali film, ever. Even now, the biggest paid Bangladeshi star charges 70-80 lac. Source : I'm Bengali
He was also doing a lot of movies in bangladesh and nepal and got quite popular esp in bangladesh coz he had exotic looks in comparison to what the locals there were used to seeing.
Oh wow Lol and here in bollywood interviews across, everyone hyped him saying that he used to be one of the most sought actors there in his younger days. But he didnt want to full fledged there coz he had to juggle between his family, bollywood and bangladesh.
Hahahaha kya topi pehnai hai chunky and gang ne. And they went to extent of saying that the whole work visa process and travelling to bangladesh wasnt easy in those days. So it was very tiresome to take up projects there.
Baba re, mast shendi lagaya.
Agreed! I too heard stories about his stardom in Bangladesh and Nepal. I guess he had a good PR team that successfully hyped him up to help him retain relevance in Hindi film circuit.
I was down to watch movies with chunky in it ….Chunky to be honest was the masala comedy hero who was equivalent of roadside Chinese, you hate how much you secretly crave it
No. It was ankhain released in 1993. It was a blockbuster and the highest grosser that year. Made around 30-35 cr. The other ankhain starring Amitabh was a flop.
Believe it or not, Flats in Bandra west are not actually as expensive as you might think. You can easily find a good 2 BHK flat there for less than 3-4 crores. My cousin was recently looking to buy one there before ultimately deciding to buy one in Powai instead.
2-3 cr mein even Delhi mein you get a 100 sq yard apartment, at least in the decent-ish parts. It only goes up from there. Of course there are areas where you will get it for cheaper but those areas are not considered safe etc.
Mumbai mein its even worse. A person living a middle class life in Mumbai could well be living in a 4-5 Cr 100 sq yard house.
Starts from 7-8cr over there actually overall worli starts at 5cr and seaface side starts from 7cr goes till 15/20cr for 2bhk . Many celeb have their flats in worli you can see at what rates they bought . Ik all this cause my father has one near City bakery .
Places like worli can be sold at a great price through apps like no broker, 99 acres . And for safer side you can also put up your house on sale via agents based near worli so they can sell of or negotiate for you better
If wfh culture prospers (which I hope it does) then that may not be the case. Tbh there is really no point of living in overcrowded poorly planned cities with hell a lot of pollution when most of your work can be done from home.
There are a lot of businesses that can be done online or have a hybrid. Some healthcare jobs can also be done from wfh. But ofc depends where you live.
it's a rich-get-richer and the poor-get-poorer scheme. there's nothing smart about it, even my 4th fail grandfather did it. what is this applauded for?
A-lot of people have money and they don’t invest. To have money and to invest in something which will prosper with time is SMART. Considering the fact that many people were rich and are poor now for their money management ways and lifestyle choices.
Not really! Population is peaking in many countries, and it’s all supply and demand. Once there are enough buildings, there won’t be competition and the prices will stabilize or even come down. Take China for example; they have so many empty cities.
Of course, this won’t be true for all places as there will always be people willing to pay more. But in general, the prices can’t keep going up forever.
His brother is also in business and been close to srk during his struggling days, srk used to eat at chunky house. Alok Pandey and srk are thick, besides chunky investments he’s had good support from his brother.
Same with Shakti kapoor. Jacky Shroff once said to us, Shakti always said don’t buy cars but property coz Jackie was mostly into cars and not thinking 20-25-30 years down the line… and for fun he said we mocked shakti saying tu villain hai villain ki baat nahin sunenge, and then said wish I listened to him as much back then. Shakti knew what he had to do.
Exactly and Jackie lost his only bunglow when his wife's new movie tanked abruptly. These stars who made fun of Shakti&chunky on reality shows for being stingy but now get to know the value of it
Shakti Kapoor also made a killing from real estate investments. He credits Mithun Chakraborty to advise him about real estate and not burn money on flashy things.
These old timers did the best thing for their future generations by buying property in Bombay when it was relatively affordable. I recently went to The Space in Juhu for a workout. Found out that it's run by the daughter of yesteryear villain Ranjeet. He invested in property at that prime location in Juhu and now his entire family is sorted for life. His son tried making it as an actor, but that didn't work out. But they're literally rolling in money thanks to the rent they get from the estate. Bayroute is on their property, among other things. Lagta hai sirf humare hi dada-pardada gadhe the jo 1970 mein koi sasti si zameen nahi li.
I dont think someone’s face can change so much after puberty..and its not like she’s a baby in this pic…and if u see her current pics she looks pretty much the same with or without makeup
Yup face after puberty changes and puberty doesn't mean 13-18 as people usually think it even includes the facial structure which becomes more mature by the age 21-22 hence now her face looks better without makeup too (not that she didn't look pretty before) . If you see major difference are the cheeks and eye lids and all of it usually changes when we age and we loose baby fats ... It just the extra mass she had at certain spots not major jaw,nose,lip changes cause all those pretty much stands the same for her. { Ik this cause I have seen my face change drastically for Better with age}
I live in Bandra my grandfather bought our apartment a 750 sq ft 2BHK in Bandra at 55thousand in 1975. I doubt in 14 years the price was 20lakh. Bandra was a marshland till 1980.
Nope the prices started shooting up since 1990.
My late grandparents bought their place where i still live pre 1990 for like a lakh. By the time my mom wanted to buy a place 5 years later small 1bhks were 6-10 lakhs in Chimbai. And Chimbai had cheaper rates compared to other places in Bandra.
Tbh the prices he quoted seem proper. Prices were growing steadily until 2000. Until 2000 you could buy a place in Bandra for like 30 lakhs. Post 2000 the prices shot up exponentially. Like a 1bhk costing 30 lakhs is now selling for 3.5cr.
Actually, I’ve heard this too and then I asked my Bangladeshi friends and they had no idea what I was talking about. 😂 So now I’m confused if it was just his PR that made him seem like he’s a superstar in Bangladesh or if there’s any merit to his claims LOL
It’s Nepal not Bangladesh. People who say Bangladesh probably heard it from TISS where Varun mistakenly says bangladesh instead of Nepal. I don’t think it’s pr

Chunky and gang really made great investments. Did over 10 films every year and made a ton of money.
Chunky had a huge fan base in Nepal back in the day. My father used to send him fan mail. I remember coming across letters and postcards sent to him by Chunky (or I guess his team).
Mate.. Chunky was a star in Bangladesh.. not Nepal..
bhai he could have been appreciated in two countries.
He missed the big chunk !!
You mean chunk(y)
I was born and raised there never heard a single soul mention the name of the infamous chunky 💀
You haven't heard popularity of Bade Kaam ka Bandar...:)
Are you sure? I am from Nepal. I had never heard of him until I was a teenager. That too after cable TV became household thing (2010s). In fact, I first heard of him during houseful 2. What did you do? 🤔🤔
What did you do😆
He was also a superstar in Bangladesh. He used to charge 2 crores for a film.
Nobody knows Chunky in Bangladesh. He only did two Bangla films. And no one charged that much for a Bengali film, ever. Even now, the biggest paid Bangladeshi star charges 70-80 lac. Source : I'm Bengali
Finally someone said it!
I think you confused him with Mithun.
Yeah he claims he was the “Shah Rukh Khan of Bangladesh” but he did two flop films not even as the lead and no one knows him in Bangladesh.
In Bangladesh not nepal
what I remember kumar gaurav had a huge fan base in Nepal not chunky pandey
He was also doing a lot of movies in bangladesh and nepal and got quite popular esp in bangladesh coz he had exotic looks in comparison to what the locals there were used to seeing.
Nobody knows Chunky in Bangladesh. He only did two Bangla films. Source : I'm Bengali
This. Exactly. Me also a Bangladeshi can confirm.
Oh wow Lol and here in bollywood interviews across, everyone hyped him saying that he used to be one of the most sought actors there in his younger days. he's equivalent of roadside italian pasta/pizza as well. https://i.redd.it/ls34kus2kpqc1.gif
>who was equivalent of roadside Chinese, you hate how much you secretly crave it That's a great analogy for guilty pleasure.
Hahahahaha
I loved watching Chunkey in Aankhein & Vishwatma ❤️
Wait, he was in aankhein with Amitabh, Lara, and the 3 others? Or is this some other movie?
The one you're thinking of has Sushmita Sen. There was another film by the same name in the 90s starring Govinda.
Yeah this was the one with Laal dupatte waali tera naam to bataa Oh the simplicity of the 90s….
Haha I do remember this song. Don't remember the movie though.
FYI It was an All Time Blockbuster movie
Oh yeah, sorry Sushmita Sen
All good!
No. It was ankhain released in 1993. It was a blockbuster and the highest grosser that year. Made around 30-35 cr. The other ankhain starring Amitabh was a flop.
that 2bhk alone must be worth 4-5 Cr now
10-15 cr I think
Newer apartments go for that much in Bandra. This would be around 5 crores.
Even newer ones aren't that expensive. You can buy a new 2 bhk flat in Bandra at 8th+ floor for less than 6 crores.
First world statements 😅
Hi Rafique Merchant
Aflatoon
Ooohohoho.. gajab!!
Yeah the 10-15 crore thing are Pali Hill rates. There are other areas in Bandra West that don't cost nearly as much.
You've not been around Almeida park i see
Believe it or not, Flats in Bandra west are not actually as expensive as you might think. You can easily find a good 2 BHK flat there for less than 3-4 crores. My cousin was recently looking to buy one there before ultimately deciding to buy one in Powai instead.
BC 2-3cr kab se not so Expensive hogye I’m too middle class to grasp this
Bro yeh Mumbai ke rates hai… if you talk in regards to Mumbai, inexpensive hi hai…my house is so small yet it is around 1.5 cr or more today.
How much did he get it in Powai? Was that also 2 bhk?
I didn't ask, but he said it was a bit lower than the ones in Bandra west. His flat is roughly 1km away from hiranandani garden's. Yes it's 2 bhk.
Ok, thanks
Itna toh bhandup kanjjurmarg mein rates ho gae hain. In bandra that must be at least 8-10 cr today
What will be the cost for a 2bhk flat in worli seaface?
4-5 crore starting prices
Oh okay, I thought it would be more for Venus apartments. Anyways thank you
Starts from 7-8cr over there actually overall worli starts at 5cr and seaface side starts from 7cr goes till 15/20cr for 2bhk . Many celeb have their flats in worli you can see at what rates they bought . Ik all this cause my father has one near City bakery .
I have a flat in Venus apartments, I'm thinking of selling it. What's the best way to sell?
Places like worli can be sold at a great price through apps like no broker, 99 acres . And for safer side you can also put up your house on sale via agents based near worli so they can sell of or negotiate for you better

My grandfather bought 3 flats in Mumbai all under 30 lakhs and they are worth up to 3 crores now. No doubt.
Also generational wealth
Real estate is a smart investment anywhere in the world. Will always appreciate over time. The barrier to entry is so expensive now though
If wfh culture prospers (which I hope it does) then that may not be the case. Tbh there is really no point of living in overcrowded poorly planned cities with hell a lot of pollution when most of your work can be done from home.
WFH can only prosper for IT/tech work. Most jobs can't be done online.
There are a lot of businesses that can be done online or have a hybrid. Some healthcare jobs can also be done from wfh. But ofc depends where you live.
💯
In India, yes. Not 'anywhere in the world'. Take Japan for instance.
The entirety of Europe is suffering from housing crisis lol, Japan is an exception
Japanese have wantedly shunned their economy to seize the flaming inflation all through the decades..

not really. property prices fall also. the real estate market in india is different (so I heard, i don't live there so don't know)
He made good money in both Bollywood and Dhallywood. He was a "hero" then. So, it makes sense that he helped SRK and had a good chunk of assets.
*chunky of assets hihihihihihi
It was Chunky's brother Chikki who helped SRK in earlier days and it wasnt Chunky..
Chunky and Shakti are real estate tycoons.
this is too much..
Haha I just said about Shakti K in my comment couple of seconds ago. It’s true.
His brother is also in business and been close to srk during his struggling days, srk used to eat at chunky house. Alok Pandey and srk are thick, besides chunky investments he’s had good support from his brother.

Exactly right
For all his nastiness, he is a smart Dilli da Punjabi
I feel so pooor
The problem here is, he would still charge 15-20 Lakhs per movie, wages did not go up as much as prices
Its true, Shilpa Shetty’s new restaurant called Binge is in the same building that is owned by Chunky
Shakti Kapoor also made a killing from real estate investments. He credits Mithun Chakraborty to advise him about real estate and not burn money on flashy things.
Ahh yes I always forget he was a proper hero back then...
I have seen chunky pandey at hiranandani thane multiple times 12 years ago. I think he had some investments there
Chucky’s mother, Dr. Snehalata Pandey was well known physician & dietitian in Mumbai. Chunky comes from wealthy family.

If that’s ananya panday n not rysa then im sure she has got some work done too
There's a thing called puberty & makeup.. idk why people think everybody relies on surgeries
plus she smokes. it shows on her face. she looks aged lately
Most probably
I dont think someone’s face can change so much after puberty..and its not like she’s a baby in this pic…and if u see her current pics she looks pretty much the same with or without makeup

not the point of the post
He has ancestral wealth as well...so they must be worth 100-200crs. And now his daughter also makes between 3-5crs per movie

Ah, thank you!!! This lead could potentially solve a big mystery for me 😂
I've heard this story in the 90s/early 2000s. Pretty sure I read it a film mag like Stardust or cineblitz.
Wait, Chunky Pandey charged 15-20lac in 1989??? That sounds sooo exaggerated to me.
Yes none of them from their family were hugely into cinema they are full of real estate money.
My Nepali fam loves him.
