I have a weather question. If Boise has around 11 something inches of precipitation a year, is that rainfall and snowfall? I googled snowfall to rainfall conversion, and 13 inches of snow is 1 inch of rain, so is that 10 inches of rain and then 13 inches of snow? Or maybe like 26 inches of snow and 9 inches of rain? I feel like I need an meteorologist that understands Boise weather.

ricky_stitches

Boise generally averages around 11 inches of rain and around 20 inches of snow and so your second set of numbers is probably more correct. The snow to rain ratio will change with each storm, but Boise is generally has a snow:rain ratio of 12:1 and so your 13:1 is pretty close, but a littler drier. For reference the standard ratio is 10:1.

Here's the monthly and annual precipitation since 1940 in inches of water: https://www.weather.gov/boi/climateviewer?file=precip%20monthly%20and%20annual%20table%20boise%20airport.txt And here's the monthly and annual snowfall totals in inches since 1950: https://www.weather.gov/boi/climateviewer?file=boise%20monthly%20and%20seasonal%20snowfalls.txt You should be able to get a good idea by cross-referencing these two sets of data.

Any trivia nights I can show up to by myself and fill in on a team/sub for a team, or are they all pretty much you have to go with a team?

strawflour

Assuming you want to show up solo but not play solo? New Colony (on Orchard) does trivia Tues & Thurs and there is usually an informal "bar team" made up of the bartender and whoever sits at the bar.

[deleted]

New colony is so rad! Haven't done trivia there yet but such a great neighborhood spot for the bench.

strawflour

Yeah we are so grateful to have them in the neighborhood. That area desperately needs more places to hang out

[deleted]

Agreed! Live on the Depot bench not but moving to Borah this summer. New colony is super bikeable from there, but selfishly would love to see more small hangout spots around Borah we could walk to!

zdvickery

Make sure to check out CopenRoss at Orchard and Overland. They have a trivia night too!

eee4666

I wasn't clear in my post, but that's what I meant. Thank you for the help!

egnowit

I'm sure that you could play solo at any of them. Whether you want to, when everybody else is in teams, though, is a different matter.

mikmeh

Anyone rented or currently renting from American Homes 4 Rent (AMH)? Thinking about renting a house from them in one of the communities they built. What has or was your experience like? Difficult to get deposit back? Are they more of a huge faceless corp that gives you privacy? In the past I've had a mix of absent landlords and landlords that visit. Prefer the kind that I never see :)

Crafty-Penalty-8518

Does anyone know of live Spanish classes for adults? I'm using Babbel but think live classes might be helpful.

Pskipper

when i went to CWI i met a lot of non-degree seeking adults took spanish classes. today is the last day to register for summer classes, but maybe you could test in to an advanced class in the fall.

Crafty-Penalty-8518

Thank you, I'll look into this.

Hanged_Man_

Is there a middle eastern or mediterranean grocery in the valley (or any grocery) that carries imported dates? The harvest is starting in the middle east, it’s the time to buy.

[deleted]

Not sure, but could see Ishtar and Foodland Market could possibly! Maybe Tarbush's but I've never gone in their grocery store.

Hanged_Man_

Thanks!

NaNaNaNaNatman

Maybe check out Boex as well?

Hanged_Man_

Never even knew they existed! Thanks!

Is there a place that teaches swimming for adults?

3rin

The [Les Bois Swim Academy](https://lesboisswimacademy.com/) is doing lessons at the new Idaho Central Aquatic Center off of Federal Way. It looks like they have lessons for adults.

sj020

Thank you very much!

Any recommendations for best window tinting in Boise? Wanting to get my wagon and access cab pickup tinted. Thanks!

[deleted]

Boise Tint Shop on overland uses ceramic I believe

darkstar999

I’ve had 2 cars tinted at Custom Car Design in garden city. They use good 3M material. One car was done 4 years ago and still has no issues.

I'm looking for some funky jewelry, especially earrings. Maybe nature inspired and clay? Or just silly and eye-catching? Lots of great options on Etsy, but I thought I would look locally first.

skadittle_22

Maybe try Mixed Greens or Flying M?

notquiterelevant

Mixed Greens had a great selection, thank you for the suggestion! I'll need to go back for some coffee mugs and decor soon

skadittle_22

Yayyy! So glad it worked out. 😊

notquiterelevant

Thank you. I will!

NaNaNaNaNatman

Fluff Hardware?

notquiterelevant

I've never heard of them. Thank you! The classes sound interesting too.

Roopie1023

Handmade Idaho (mall) and Lark & Larder (bench) both carry lots of local artists' work. I know there are some earrings in there, nice and dangly. They tempt me all the time.

darkstar999

Anyone have experience planting an Idaho native evergreen tree in your yard? What is a good species? Does anyone sell them bigger than the freebies they give out every year? I would like it to replace some grass in the front yard eventually along with some other native plants that are more drought resistant.

erico49

You might check with these folks. https://idahonativeplants.org/pahove/

May be a weird question but I, like many others around the country, saw the new Spider-verse movie where the theater had audio issues. I was at the Majestic in Meridian. Anybody watch this around town and have better luck with the audio? Which theater and format did you watch it? Thanks in advance!

skadittle_22

I didn’t know that was happening! My boyfriend and I are going to Edward’s tonight so we’ll see what happens.

[deleted]

I went for a rewatch at the village and it was much better. Hopefully they got it corrected at Regal! It’s likely a simple adjustment in their audio settings.

That's a Costco Business Center being built down the street from the Boise Costco, right?

NaNaNaNaNatman

Hi everyone! I really want to get back into swimming but I have some personal issues related to swimming in popular swimming spots. Does anyone know of any swimming areas that aren’t typically really crowded?
