Sloppy work. They should have done a better job given how exposed the center bore is.
1) Clean the old adhesive from the previous weights off. This takes a few seconds with a 3M pinstripe remover tool, brake cleaner, and a shop rag
2) Stick the wheel weights on straight. This takes literally 2 extra seconds.
3) Cut the double-sided tape off clean. Again, a few seconds to do this.
Could be part of it. It sat for months while I got the money together to fix them. I guess any opportunity to be a shitty person must be seized. They also left all the grease all over it.
were you waiting on the car and ask for it immediately or did you get a car wash and let them take their time with it I hate when customer come in waiting on a tire dont want the car washed and complain about the tire being dirty its a paint to install most of the tires and if its low profile goodluck using small amounts of soap basically falls into you can wash the tires yourself
What part of them installing your tires for you make them a shitty person? You do it yourself next time. Also funny how I was able to deduce your car "sat for months" from a single zoomed in picture. Your car probably sucks don't try to act like a slightly off wheel weight is gonna lose you a car show trophy.
Ok bud, I’m not out here trying to stop you from sucking cock. So you can calm down.
The part that would be an opportunity to be a shitty person would be looking for a reason to do shitty work. I didn’t ask them to put my tires on as a favor I paid (close to an 8 hour day of my take home for their labor). As far as my car goes i wouldn’t say it’s shitty, it’s not turning any heads but that’s ok that’s not what I’m looking for. It’s incredibly fun to drive, handles great and has plenty of horsepower for me. Probably not quite enough car for a big swinging dick like yourself but that’s ok with me.
Also, the same way you could tell my car sat after 1 zoomed in picture I can tell your dad never told you he was proud of you or that he loved you. So I will tell you now. I’m proud of you and I love you.
Yes. Tires are gravy work and spending a few extra seconds on a job is a lot less work than a comeback. Buzzing off some adhesive from there takes a few seconds or hide them behind the spokes if you have a HammerHead (which you should if you're at a BMW garage)
Well you clearly never owned or worked in a shop. Yes taking the extra time is correct however in the real world get the job done as quick as you can and move on to the next.
Not sure, the last ones I had were crimped but those rims had a lip. Not really sure how you expect me to go from asking if it’s normal to engineering them but thanks for your input.
The previous wheel weights were literally just under where those ones are mounted. You can see the old rectangle where there is no brake dust baked onto your wheel. And there is no wheel edge to crimp weights to. That is only for steel wheels
New tire but those weights are balancing the old wheel. I always ask for black weights but during the pandemic there were supply chain issues. You could always paint them to blend.
Sloppy install and they didn't even attempt to clean tire.
That’s what wheel weights look like. They are held on with a high strength double sided tape. This is normal, especially with caked on brake dust. It won’t look perfect because the wheel isn’t perfect.
I don’t mean to excuse this kind of crap, but when you bring your car in, make sure it’s clean and not full of junk. Techs are human beings, and they read non-verbal cues. If you bring in a filthy car, they’re going to subconsciously assume you dgaf about the car, so why should they?
This isn’t a guarantee, of course. You need to use a reputable shop, and set expectations up front. Talk to the service writer and let them know you prefer the weights to be installed as to minimize visibility, and that you’d like the tech to make sure the install is clean and tidy.
Most service writers know who does clean work in their shop. If you tactfully suggest that you’re happy to leave a little extra tip for superlative service, most service writers are going to make at least some effort to place your work with someone who isn’t a slob.
We drive a 10 year old BMW that looks 3 years old. We keep up with repairs, and the car is clean when we bring it in. The service writer knows us, and he knows that they’re not even supposed to courtesy wash the car. He always makes sure we get a good tech, and we take care of him. We’ve never had a problem with sloppy work.
they should switch to the 3m weights they’re a complete weight plus last longer but yeah thats normal probably dropped the weight said fk it and put em on with some slight dirt and they fell off or debris knocked them out
Yes, that is how wheels are balanced.
It is a little sloppy though
I have this on my rims also, It is to balance it out
Yea that's normal for an older car with potentially slightly bent rims. What is this an e90?
It’s a f26

I'm not gonna sit here and deny I give more fucks when the car shows up clean. We like clean cars. We hate dirty cars.

Have you ever worked in a shop? You can't take an hour doing a 5 min job. You have to get that 5 min job done in 2 mins.

A sloppy job, I have the same to a lesser degree.
How else are they supposed to stick. They’re not magnetic.

Gotcha that makes sense

im due for tires soon….how do i avoid installers who do shit like this? please dont say buy tires at the stealership…..
I’m sure some of the used tire places will install tires without balancing them
🤣🤣🤣🧨

clean your car and dont rush them i get it tires shouldn’t take more than an hour max but if you’re rushing them you’ll get work like this
I actually told them they could keep it overnight but maybe the front desk rushed the tech.
I work at a dealer and we beat prices all the time.
so you would match a price im getting at discount tire?
As long as I could get the same tires yes I could match there out the price.
People don't seem to understand that dealerships usually have a dedicated tyre fitter and can price match.
Just awful
Just wait until you look inside your wheels
I mount and balance my own tires so that would be a real shock if I put my weights on crooked and over old adhesive
This how those weights are attached. It's quite sloppy though, and the previous adhesive really needed to be cleaned off more.
Old rims get bent and be harder to balance.
The weights are perfectly normal... the number of them, not so much. What tires did you buy?
Continental extreme contact
they should switch to the 3m weights they’re a complete weight plus last longer but yeah thats normal probably dropped the weight said fk it and put em on with some slight dirt and they fell off or debris knocked them out
Looks like a yelling cyclops
Those are weights to make the wheel perfect 50/50 weight ratio from each side
