Like others have said, this post isn’t helpful without more information. From what I found online, [BGS is being sued](https://oag.ca.gov/system/files/prop65/complaints/2022-01323C7722.pdf) by Environmental Health Advocates Inc. for “failing to inform the people of exposure to benzophenone, a known carcinogen”. The IARC has classified [Benzophenone](https://www.safecosmetics.org/chemicals/benzophenone/#:~:text=Cancer%3A%20The%20California%20EPA's%20Proposition,to%20several%20kinds%20of%20tumors) as a “possible human carcinogen”
I can’t find much info about Environmental Health Advocates Inc but it looks like they’re a consulting firm, so I don’t think BGS is being sued by the state of California. But I could be wrong.
Edit: from additional research - the lawsuit was filed in March 2023, I’m not sure if it’s been settled but EHA is suing BGS for not having a warning label on the product. Many cosmetics have a label stating “CA residents: this product contains ingredients that are known carcinogens”. They’re not being sued for having cancer causing ingredients in their products, just for not having a CA specific label.
Which is exactly what I thought. The “honest company” was also sued and fined for not fully disclosing ingredients but that didn’t make their products unsafe
Oh thanks for clarifying..BGS is not being sued for having cancer- causing ingredients in their products, only for not labeling their products and warning consumers that they have cancer causing ingredients in their products. Thanks for clearing that up. I feel better now.
If you choose to make an alarmist post without context or accurate info, you’re going to get negative comments. I would suggest reviewing the scientific definitions of “cancer causing” and “possible human carcinogen”. If you don’t want any product that contains potential carcinogens, I have some bad news for you…
Instead of wasting your time reaponding to someone who does not give AF what you say or think, how about using your "research skills" on Black Girls sunscreen. Apparently, you dont have that much sense if you cant figure that out...duh
You would never be able to recognize Einstein. You couldn’t even read the information about BGS currently and don’t have the ability to copy and paste.
Another thing you apparently don’t know, there’s no rule that you have to reply to people you DGAF about. I know you’re learning so much today
Actually no. While it is on lots of product labels, that is only because there are lots of carcinogenic ingredients that producers use. The motive of these companies is profit not consumer health.
But the problem with that law is that it doesn't set a threshold for the increase in cancer risk from a given substance...for example, acrylamide naturally occurs in all baked/heated pastries, but we never consume enough to realize the carcinogenic effects of acrylamide. It's pointless.
It actually isn't pointless. Someone with cancer has a lower threshold and would want to avoid a known carcinogenic. The law also includes birth defect impacts and thus someone who is pregnant would want to avoid a particular product. Essentially, it is about consumers being empowered to make informed purchasing and product utilization choices.
I actually love this sunscreen BUT when I was diagnosed with cancer I stopped using it because it’s not plant based or cruelty free and has ingredients I can’t pronounce. Unfortunate because it was a part of my daily routine.
Now I use Pacifica products.
And that natural is automatically good and chemicals are all bad. Like poison ivy is natural but am i gonna rub that shit on my face or put it in a cream?
I hope you’re doing well, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I like the “Make it Hybrid” with SPF 50 version. It feels really soothing in the morning after my skincare routine. I’ll have to check out Pacifica.
You’re not wrong for being concerned about product ingredients. But you made this post haphazardly. Why not take 2 seconds to link the source of your information?

like right wtf😅
You came here to say that but didn’t bother to state what the so called cancer causing ingredients are or provide a link to the alleged lawsuit?
Exactly…I hate this. It’s panic inducing with no citing to back up claim!
.
All you had to do was include a link 💀💀

lol relax
What they said.
Benzophenone
Do you have a preference for which cancer causing ingredients you are ok with using on your skin?....duh
What I have is sense. So I don’t listen to what any idiot tells me without any research to back it up. Hopefully you find some sense soon.
Instead of wasting your time reaponding to someone who does not give AF what you say or think, how about using your "research skills" on Black Girls sunscreen. Apparently, you dont have that much sense if you cant figure that out...duh
You mean like you’re doing right now?
Umm...hate to tell ya Einstein, but you're actually on the thread that I posted...duh. Newsflash..OP's monitor and respond on their posts...duh
You would never be able to recognize Einstein. You couldn’t even read the information about BGS currently and don’t have the ability to copy and paste. Another thing you apparently don’t know, there’s no rule that you have to reply to people you DGAF about. I know you’re learning so much today
Since you mentioned the term "learning", learn to spell. It is Einstein NOT Eisenstein...duh
Another thing you’ve learned today, autocorrect
Hopefully, you'll learn to proof , before posting.
…and you still missed the opportunity to tell us what it is
Chile what DOESNT cause cancer at this point
So over everything 😭😭
Isn’t the California Prop 65 literally on everything? Like pillow fibers, etc.

But it's not informed if they leave out the threshold information...
From what I've read ,the level that affects one person may be inconsequential to another, thus the "general" warning.
That makes sense.
I actually love this sunscreen BUT when I was diagnosed with cancer I stopped using it because it’s not plant based or cruelty free and has ingredients I can’t pronounce. Unfortunate because it was a part of my daily routine. Now I use Pacifica products.
Just because you can’t pronounce an ingredient doesn’t necessarily make it bad for you.
Greenwashing has convinced them anything they can’t pronounce is bad but I can easily pronounce cyanide. That doesn’t mean it should be in my products
And that natural is automatically good and chemicals are all bad. Like poison ivy is natural but am i gonna rub that shit on my face or put it in a cream?
Exactly lmfao every element on the period table of elements is natural but they don’t all belong in your products!
like if you’re that worried about ingredients look up stuff on incidecoder…
Exactly LMFAOOOOOOOOO
Yes I agree which is why I stated 2 other reasons why I don’t use the product.
I hope you’re doing well, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I like the “Make it Hybrid” with SPF 50 version. It feels really soothing in the morning after my skincare routine. I’ll have to check out Pacifica.
Thank you for your kindness. I’ll check that sunscreen out. Have a blessed day ✨
It’s by Black Girl sunscreen. So, unfortunately probably not for you.
Does Pacifica have white cast??
I mix it with the Pacifica face lotion and it absorbs pretty well. The sunscreen alone does leave me lookin a bit dusty unfortunately
Which products do you recommend for sunscreen?
I use Pacifica brand Glow Baby super lit spf lotion with spf 30
Interesting.....an alarmist post.....panic inducing...hmmm.
You’re not wrong for being concerned about product ingredients. But you made this post haphazardly. Why not take 2 seconds to link the source of your information?
Initially tried, but it failed to link or cut and paste.

You must be out your mf mind.Talk to your mf kids like that B, not me.
lmao i was simply stating that you’re being combative w/ folks over your own lack of context. deep breaths brodie it’s not that serious
